Replacing video clip causes project to become corrupted.

I'm not sure if this would be considered a bug or not, but I'll explain what happened.  I'm using CS4 with all Adobe software mentioned below.
I'm working on an animation project that has foreground characters created using Anime Studio Pro software and backgrounds created in 3d Studio Max.  I then use After Effects to composite the two and add effects.  Out of After Effects I'm rendering uncompressed AVI files.  I then bring those into Premiere Pro to edit the whole thing and add the dialogue, music and sound effects.  I sometimes go ahead and include the dialogue audio in the individual clips for reference, but I only end up using the video in Premiere.
Sometimes after I get a shot completely finished we notice a problem, or the client wants a change, etc.  I have to go back and redo the composite in After Effects.  I usually just export over the clip that was already done (and already loaded into Premiere Pro) and the only time this seems to be a problem is if I do it while Premiere is still open (usually causes it to freeze).
But I ran into a big problem the other day where one of the original clips I replaced had some audio in it, and I accidently forgot to include the audio in the one I replaced it with.  At first there didn't seem to be any problem, but when I shut down Premiere and tried to open the project back up, it wouldn't finish loading.  It took me a while to figure out what the problem was.  I ended up going back to an autosave, but if I opened it up and then saved it, the saved project woudn't finish loading any more.  Even if I then moved the file that was causing the problem to a different directory, the project still wouldn't open.
I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has had this or a similar problem, or am I the only one who ever replaces clips on the hard drive that are already loaded into a Premiere project?  I'm used to After Effects which has no problem with you doing this, you just have right-click on the file you've replaced and select "Reload".  I guess I was just expecting Premiere to not have a problem with this as well.

Never overwrite a clip that is used in Pr.  Give the
modified/corrected/updated clip a new name and import that into your Pr
project.  Then Alt+Drag the new clip on top of the old clip in the
timeline to replace the clip instance.
If import-then-drag isn't your style, then right-clicking the original
clip in the Project panel and selecting Replace Footage will accomplish
the same thing.
This important rule applies in Encore as well.

  • THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION: Projects keep becoming corrupted

So I keep importing my mp4 videos into iMovie (obtained by using the Activity Window method to download clips online, then converted it to mp4 using Handbrake) but every time I import a video (it is workable at first) and turn on my computer next time to start working on it, the clips become unusable. There is no playback of any sort in the playback window, no audio or picture, and while occasionally the thumbnails will be appropriate (still no audio though) they can't be used. Then other times the thumbnails turn into these gray and black things that only display a random thumbnail picture (not necessarily the proper corresponding one) when it is scrolled over. I think the videos are getting CORRUPTED but they work when played with quicktime or on my desktop and when they are initiaaly imported into iMovie. It's getting impossible to make any headway on a project when the clips just won't work. MY QUESTION: How do I prevent these corruptions from happening or once I trimmed and edited an imported video that later goes corrupt, how do I un-corrupt my carefully edited work?

Sounds like you are up against copy protection.

  • Advise regarding replacing video clip

This is a repost as I accidentally posted this enquiry under FAQ.
I'm doing a documentary. Accordingly, I videod someone introducing part of the documentary's subject. I now want to replace (drop in) some of the visual clips with other visual scenes. However, I don't want to erase the audio track that was recorded at the same time, and would like to use as part of the narration. This is probably quite simple, but after a few days trying to navigate tutorials, I guess I might have overlooked how to do these basic editing steps in PE8.
    Thanks for any advise! David

I'll put together a little display of what they look like in the Timeline.
One of the best descriptions of L and J cuts that I have run across is Curt Wrigley's discussion in his Adobe Classroom in a Book for Premiere Pro CS4, Adobe Press.

  • Online video clips causes crash

why does my macbook pro crash when I open online videos with it unplugged? Works fine when it's plugged in.

Flash video is very CPU intensive, open activity monitor and look at your CPU usage while trying to watch a YouTube video, no doubt it is at 100%.
Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about this - my 400 Mhz G3 can't handle flash video and by the look of some previous posts on the forum I'd be surprised if any can .

  • Office 2010 and Lync 2013 installed caused Powerpoint to become corrupted from internet sources

I'm finding that we're having problems with Office 2010 and Lync 2013.
Our environment is setup as follows:
    Operating system: Windows 7 Enterprise
Office: Office 2010 (Word, Excel , Powerpoint, Access etc)
Office 2013 (Only Lync has been installed for 2013)
Problem: The issue is that when any Powerpoint documents come from internet sources (Such as Outlook or downloading directly from an internet browser), attachment manager deems the Powerpoint a security risk. When you open the Powerpoint it states that it's
corrupt and needs to be repaired, when you try repairing the powerpoint, it says it's not going to be possible.
The only workaround is right clicking the power point in explorer and clicking properties, there's then a security prompt at the bottom of the dialog box and an option to "Unblock".
The temporary fix: The fix is to remove Lync 2013 and the power point presentation open correctly from Internet sources.
    Attempted:
    I've attempted the following:
    - Build a laptop with a plain version of Windows 7 enterprise
    - Install Office 2010 Professional
    - Test powerpoints from internet sources (Working)
    - Install Lync 2013
    - Test powerpoints from internet sources (Same error)
    Any ideas?

Just to let you know that switching off protected view in Powerpoint for files originating from internet sources and Outlook attachments is a workaround for the issue.
I would be cautious about switching off Protected view though, here's a good article explaining the inner workings of Protected view:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/office2010/archive/2009/08/13/protected-view-in-office-2010.aspx
Concerning this problem, I also noticed that after removing Office 2013 and starting Powerpoint, a MSIEXEC instance is started.
Presumably some DLLs are missing or some registry keys are missing when installed with Lync/Office 2013.
I also went to the trouble of snap shotting the registry and using Procmon to see what gets loaded and added when Powerpoint repairs itself on first start after removing Office 2013.
Unfortunately there are a number of things which change and couldn't be changed on the Office 2010 and Lync 2013 setup to fix the problem.
My advice would be the following:
    - Update to Office 2013 fully
    - Downgrade to Office 2010 Lync
    - Switch off protected view

  • Clips from Project bin to source monitor causing video output to go out of sync(CS6 and CC)

Any footage I double-click or drag from the Project window to the Source monitor causes my video output to go out of sync. When I put the clips in the timeline, video goes back in sync and I'm able to view video output.  My monitors are connected to a Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt(9.7.5) via component and HDMI. Is this normal behavior in Premiere or is there a setting to enable this? No issues doing this in FCP7(clips from Project window to Canvas).
Can someone with an I/O from AJA, Matrox, or Blackmagic please test this out for me. Thanks...

    Hi Joe,
How do you have your audio setup? Try the following.
    - Set your OS system sound to Built-in or Line out audio
    - Select Blackmagic for both Video and Audio in Preferences> Playback
    - Select System Default Input/Output from Preferences> Audio Hardware
    Hope this helps,

  • I have been trying to create a movie from a project that is primarily stills and one video clip.  I cannot successfully create the movie without iMovie shutting down unexpectedly.  Any ideas for the cause of the problem?

I am getting an unexpected shut down of iMovie when I try to share a movie from a project that is made up of still pictures, one video clip and music.  Have tried to create the movie several times with different formats and continue to get the message.  When I removed all music I was able to create the movie without a problem but when I added the music back, I was unable to create the movie.  I'm using iMoive 11' version 9.0.9
    Thanks.
    Bill

I'm no expert in iMovie, but I've found that processing memory (as well as sheer hard disk space for the project to 'turn around in') can be a big issue with constructing, editing, and distilling projects in iMovie. I've improved the success by moving 2gb of image files off to an external drive, but only really got moving again on an hour-long project by doubling RAM and again freeing up h/d space.
Some tunes are also an issue, but if you can see it in the iTunes list to place in your project, it should work okay... Does the project run with any other piece of music, or does just that one tune mess it up?
    Good luck,
    Laura

  • Video files seem to become corrupted when I adjust speed

    Hello,
I have started editing a new project, and am experiencing a familiar problem that I have encountered in the past, but which was never really resolved. I'm not very technical, so apologies if my description of the problem is simplstic.
The problem is that after making certain edits in the Project window, I find that the entire project has some how become corrupted: i.e. every single clip becomes impossible to edit - I can't spool through the clips and view them in the screen by dragging my mouse cursor over them, and I can't even delete the clip whose edit seemed to result in the corruption.
If I leave the project to go back to the project library, it is now impossible to re-enter the project. The words "edit project" in the button at the top left become grey. I find that the most common cause for this problem is whenever I attempt to adjust the speed of a clip, or reverse it. Is this a common problem with a simple solution?
I have come up with a makeshift solution, which is far from satisfactory, but does sometimes help: I remove the file in the iMovie Events folder in Finder that contains the clips that I can no longer edit, and open up iMovie. The event library in iMovie will now be empty; I replace the events files back into the iMovie Events folder in Finder, then import a random clip into iMovie. The random clip is imported into a seprate event of its own, and the original file that I had put back into iMovie Events reappears simultaneously. Sometimes when I do this, the clips in the Project library are editable again, but not always.
However, I would far rather that the programme simply processed my edits without corrupting the project. Is anyone familliar with this problem, and does anyone have a solution. Thank you very much in advance.

There are several likely sources of corruption, and video card would be far down on my list of possible suspects.
The transfer from camera card to hard disk is the most likely place for problem, either the card reader or USB cable can go bad. Another likely source of problems is the computer's hard disk is starting to fail. The camera card itself may be bad. And lastly, the memory in the computer may be malfunctioning.

  • Why is my DVD project freezing when a video clip plays?

    Hi -
I have a simple Encore(CS5 Mac) project that is that is "stalling" when played.
The content of the DVD is made from an After Effects(CS5.5 Mac) project so I think I should provide information on that.  The 30sec AE project is mostly timeline animation until the last 6 seconds which is video footage.   The 7 second video clip is scaled way down from it's original dimensions and then masked off to fit in an area of the AE stage.
I rendered the AE project to a QT MOV with No compression.  In this format it was a very large file (939MB) but it played flawlessly in Quicktime on my desktop.
Then I brought that MOV into Encore as a timeline, added a one button menu,  and burned a DVD.
The prpoject plays fine until that video comes on. At that instant - the picture freezes for a few seconds - then plays for a second and then freezes again.  It does this stop and go until the video ends and then the DVD returns to the simple opening menu.
It seems to choke at the same time each time I replay it but I can't be 100% sure.  It's almost as if the disc actually stops spinning.
Why would the DVD freeze when the video content of my DVD project played?  What can I do to fix this?
    TIA some expert advice.
    JL

While I am familiar with the brand name, Imagtion, I do not know what their business model is. Some companies, like Memorex buy the cheapest blank media of that day, and rebrand it, with their logo. Others do the same thing. Poor quality blank media can cause all sorts of issues, such as hanging and skipping - hence my question.
I would do a test burn with high-quality blank media, such as Falcon, Taiyo-Yuden or Verbatim, and then burn about 4x on the speed. Test to see if that disc plays, without the skipping and hangling.
    Good luck,

  • Imovie 11: When moving clips from event to project, the top of the video clip is cut off.

I'm working with a new project. When I add clips from an event to the project window, the top of the video clip is cut off.  Quite a bit of it is cut off.  It happens on every clip.  The aspect ratio is correct and I've set the video to fit in frame.  How can I fix this?  I would really appreciate any help.

You may have stabilization turned on in the project. On one of the clips, click on the small gear icon at the start of the clip and select Clip Adjustments. In the Inspector that opens, uncheck the box "Smooth Clip Motion" against Stabilization. If this fixes it for you, do the same for the other clips.
Also, it's a good idea to turn off certain preferences in iMovie>Preferences (an iMovie menu item). In the Browser tab uncheck the boxes for both "Automatically stabilize clips that have been analyzed" and "Apply rolling shutter correction for clips that have been analyzed". See this picture:
The stabilization process causes a zoomed in effect on the video, as it has to "average" the pixels in order to smooth any shaky motion. You therefore lose a certain amount of the picture, depending on the extent of stabilization applied. Here's what iMovie Help states (in part) about this process:
"iMovie stabilizes video by analyzing the camera motion in the video and then moving the picture the opposite way to steady it onscreen. In this process, iMovie zooms in on the picture slightly. The amount of unstable motion in the clip determines how much zooming is necessary.
Zooming in crops out some of the picture, but you can fine-tune the level of stabilization to strike the right balance between keeping the video steady and retaining as much of the picture as possible."

  • When I go to create a new project in imovie using the iPhone 5, I am not able to see any of my video clips or photos that are saved on the device.

When I go to create a new project in imovie using the iPhone 5, I am not able to see any of my video clips or photos that are saved on the device.

When you move or copy the compound clips with their events into an external drive all the events should be there. Not clear on why you want to move them into a single event. You can drag and drop from one event to another.
Why are you using compound clips? You can simply copy the project from each machine with used media onto the external drive and that should do it.

  • Imovie on my ipad ...refuses to recognize AVCHD Video. Also when i remove video clips already used in a project, it is unable to recognize missing clips after I've put them back. How do I get around these 2 issues?

My iMovie refuses to recognize, import, or work with AVCHD Video. It also refuses the same video clips even after I have converted them to Mp4. Also, when I delete a video clip already used in a project, then later import the same clip back to my ipad, the software is unable to recognize and find the clip again! Help! How do I get around these issues?

    Hi Craig,
I also got the second problem. The storyboard on iMovie trailer has all these missing videos. If I import them on my iPad it doesn't find them.
If you find a solution it would be much appreciated to share it here ... I'll do the same.
    Thanks,

  • In Imovie '11, how can I drag more than one set of video clips to my project?

In  Imovie '11, how can I drag more than one set of video clips into my project.  I know how to highlight in yellow and drag the set, but can I drag a group of sets?  Thanks

To select multiple clips, hold down the command key as you click multiple clips. Then you can drag them all at once.
To drag all clips at once, select one, then Edit/Select All. Then drag them all.

  • I want to copy video, cutaways and audio combined and use in another project. So far I can only copy the video clip or one of the other elements at a time. How do I group all of them?

I want to group my  video clip with its audio and cutaway clips so that I can copy the segment and move it to another project. So far I can only move one element at a time. How can I group all the elements?

You can select multiple objects in the timeline in the usual Mac way - hold down the shift key while you click on the objects then copy, select other project, position playhead where you want to insert then paste.

  • A video clip import for a new project keeps showing up as a clip from an older project.

So here's the issue, I succesfully imported and trimmed 95% of the video clips from my GoPro today. However, when I upload the piece de resistance, it shows up as a clip from an older project that I've already deleted. Despite showing me the older clip in the imported section, I can still play approximately 1/3 of the actual, new clip. Problem is it stops and doesn't allow me to work with the remaining footage. I've tried importing it straight from the SD card, copying it to the desktop first, etc. No luck. Any advice?

    So, it's Photoshop CS3.
Anyway, from what I understood, you open the photo directly form the disk in Photoshop. That is, you don't use Lightroom to open the photo in Photoshop. It just doesn't work this way. As I said above, Lightroom has no way of knowing when to import a photo that has been saved in Photoshop.
If you insist on using Jpegs for derivative files, your best way to go is indeed using Synchronize.
However, I'd advice to use a lossless format, like TIFF or PSD. Why leave image quality on the table (as Jeff Schewe likes to say)? Storage is cheap and you're editing only your best photos in Photoshop anyway.
And as an additional benefit, you can automate the process of importing derivatives:
Configure what file type to use in Prefs: TIFF or PSD, bit depth, color space etc.
Select an image in Lightroom and hit Ctrl+E.
The derivative file is created in the chosen format and opened in Photoshop.
    Edit and save in Photoshop.
Voila! Your edited derivative is already in Lightroom.
