Replica tree has unknown addresses

Hi-
I set up a replica on my Leopard server from my Snow Leopard server. Checking the Replca Tree does not show the IP or the FQDN of the replica but DOES show a lot of random ips that I have no idea where they came from. The replica is working because Im getting LDAP info from the master on the replica but what are these unknown ips? Am I being hacked?
Thanks,
Scott

Can someone please take a stab at this? The IPs are 172.16.11.119, 10.211.55.2 and 10.37.129.2. The two 10 addresses are associated with vnic0 and vnic1 interfaces that show up under my network interfaces in
the network tab in server admin admin (I have no idea where they came from either) though I am using a Class A network. The 172 is a complete mystery. Any ideas?
Like the I said, the replica seems to up but it's ip shows no where in the replica tree and there is nothing in replica status at all.
Thanks.

  • Replica tree includes invalid IP address

I just recently updated the IP address on the server via the system preferences pane, and modified the DNS record to reflect this change; however, after doing so, the old IP address remains within the "Replica Tree" and appears to be causing issues (at least, I am suspecting it as the issue due to LDAP crashes after the IP address change). When I do `changeip -checkhostname`, everything returns as valid so there isn't immediate issues related towards the DNS.
If there is a way that I can manipulate the replica tree, to remove the old IP address, I do believe that it will resolve the issue that I am having. I tried to edit the actual LDAP config record through WGM's inspector, but it does not appear that the changes took effect. Please someone shed some light here as to how this could be handled, and thank you in advance.

I had this problem... i can't remember how to fix it though haha.
    Try decommissioning the replica.
Change the IP back, re-create the replica, then decommission it again.
Either that, or it's listed in one of the plist files of LDAP/OD services that doesn't show up in WGM inspector. Try a program that can scan text files (i think easyfind?) and have it search every file on your OS HD for the IP string.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Given the error you're receiving, it appears that the spelling of the email address is being put in incorrectly.  Rather than spelling "iCloud" you have it spelled "iclod."

  • ICloud email generating error SMTP has rejected address

A very strange thing just started happening this weekend.  I have been an iCloud user since it was .Mac and it's been my primary email client for years.  I receive about one new email every five minutes.  I can send and receive email from my MacBook Pro, my iphone, my iPad, and via icloud.com.  I all these platforms constantly and I've had zero issues... until yesterday.
The main email address I use is technically an alias.  It's a @me address, since that's the shortest to type.  Yesterday a co-worker informed me she had gotten this error message when trying to send me email (yet I've been receiving daily emails from her for months):
Reason: Remote SMTP server has rejected address
Diagnostic code: smtp;550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias
Sure enough, I looked and realized I had not received any email all day, and I have still not received any today.  Normally I receive several emails per hour.  I checked my mail via icloud.com and there was nothing there either.  I let it go for the rest of the day, figuring it was a server problem that Apple was working on.
This morning, however, the problem was continuing.  So I tried generating a test message from icloud.com and sent it to my main alias (my primary email address, because it's easier to remember) and also to my main icloud email, which is also a @me address.  The test email went through to my main icloud address with no problem but was rejected by the main alias with the same error message as above.
Next, I tried investigating my aliases.  I have made no changes to any settings in quite some time,  but this is what I found.  When I checked my email aliases (I have 3 @me alliases beyond my main icloud id) on icloud.com, they had all vanished.  Then I looked at the icloud advanced settings on my iphone.  I saw that all the @me aliases remained, however my main @me alias was grayed out.
And that's where I'm at now.  I thought for sure this was an Apple server problem, but I haven't seen any other messages reporting the problem, so I'm not sure how to proceed.
Thanks in advance for anyone's help!

    Hi Fly Line,
My world has gone eerily quiet too.
I am in exactly the same situation but mine is an old @mac address
So like you, the main email address I use is an @mac.com alias. I get lots of emails every day for work.  They all stopped coming to this alias yesterday (June 6th)
Mail was behaving oddly, but I was too busy to work out what was happening.
I've just discovered that all my original @mac alliases have disappeared from Mail on my iMac and also have disappeared when I log into iCloud via Safari
The aliases are showing up on my iPhone, but as you have said, the primary email address (mine is an @mac adddress) is greyed out. I'm not sure if that's just because it's the primary address.
The aliases ARE showing up on my Macbook Pro.
I tried sending an email from both the iMac and the Macbook. Both returned the message "The server response was: unknown or illegal alias: alias"
I havent changed any settings either.  I can't help you as I am at a complete loss. I may try calling Apple on Monday. I'll let you know if I come up with anything. It would be great to hear from you if you have found a solution

  • Rejecting unknown addresses at connection level...

Our server currently bounces unknown addresses sent to it, but our mail appliance needs to see an immediate 550 error when an invalid RCPT TO is sent to our mail server.
I am unsure as to how to do this with the PostFix config file. I suspect it has something to do with localrecipientmaps but I'm not sure. Can anyone help?

Hello. Running a publicly-available mail server is a serious endeavo(u)r.
    Currently your mail-server is misconfigured:
You _should not bounce those messages_ [!] You should be rejecting the messages instead, which
Postfix as configured out of the box by Apple should do, and - as well, by default - it will use a 550 code when rejecting those messages.
From the default, supplied /etc/postfix/main.cf :
    # REJECTING MAIL FOR UNKNOWN LOCAL USERS
    # The localrecipientmaps parameter specifies optional lookup tables
    # with all names or addresses of users that are local with respect
    # to $mydestination, $inet_interfaces or $proxy_interfaces.
    # If this parameter is defined, then the SMTP server will reject
    # mail for unknown local users. This parameter is defined by default.
    # The unknownlocal_recipient_rejectcode specifies the SMTP server
    # response code when a recipient domain matches $mydestination or
    # ${proxy,inet}_interfaces, while $localrecipientmaps is non-empty
    # and the recipient address or address local-part is not found.
    # The default setting is 550 (reject mail) but it is safer to start
    # with 450 (try again later) until you are certain that your
    # localrecipientmaps settings are OK.
    unknownlocal_recipient_rejectcode = 550

  • OD Replica tree

    Hi,
I have a 10.6.8 OD and a 10.6.8.replica. Just recently I noticed some dns errors in the DS error log:
    DNSServiceProcessResult returned -65563
I have also noticed an IP address in the replica tree that shouldnt be there. It is a range from our windows DHCP server scope. I have a feeling at some point I must have inserted a cable into the xserve's second interface port.
Anyway, I am trying to remove this entry but without much success. I have removed the unwanted entry from the DSLDAPv3Pluginconfig.plist but it still remains in the replica tree list. I have also restarted.
    Any ideas?
The IP address in question is not in use and does not respond to a reverse lookup.
    Cheers

Hey, did you find an answer to this? I have the same problem with invalid IP addresses which won't allow me to edit anything in WorkGroupManager. Even trying to edit the Config files in WGM it won't allow, so I need to locate the file where this information is stored?

  • Server migration - updating Replica Tree?

    Dear All,
I've just moved our server to a new location and new IP, and have made all the neccessary changes (dns, etc) to get all functioning fine and connected to the web - but now that I'm onto network configuration, I see that the IP/hostname entry in the Server Administrator's "Open Directory/General/replica tree" tab are still the old ones. Is there any easy way to change this - without losing user information?

Answering my own question again. The 'usual' linux way of removing old replica addresses is to use "slapconfig -removereplica xx.xx.xx.xxx", but Leopard's binding LAPD to the passwords directory (managed by Workgroup Manager) makes doing this without further authentification impossible.
My problem was twofold because after we had moved our server from one place/IP to another, someone forgot to rebuild Open Directory, so I had to find all instances of our old IP address within and replace it with the new one. The server was still operating till then thanks to DNS lookups, but the extra lookup time when OD came to the inactive old addresses probably slowed things down.
Caution: for one not familiar with the workings of Open Directory, this is not a task easy for the queasy. Read everything below before trying anything.
So we have to use Workgroup Manager. Login as the Directory Administrator, then go to Preferences and activate the 'Show "All Records" tab and inspector. A 'target' tab should appear.
In the drop-down menu just underneath the (selected) target tab, select 'Config'. Inspect everything in the lefthand column for traces of your old IP/Hostname and remove/update them - I found entries in both XML files under 'Kerberos Client', on the top-level (appearing to the right); ;in both XML files under 'ldapreplicas'; towards the bottom of both XML files under 'macosxodconfig'; on the top-level under 'password' server, but pay particular attention to the entries in both XML files there - not only do you have to update the old IP addresses there, you have to ensure that the DNS <key> (under <dict>) in both reflect the actual hostname. Of course you have to hit save after every modification above.
    ======
I took my depart from the this piece of advice - but as I am NO Open Directory expert, and I am not sure of the importance of the XML files modified above (I get the impression that a few are just preferences that will be re-generated anyways), I would still appreciate any advice or critiques about the steps above - It worked for me until now (the old IP/hostnames are gone and lookups seem to have quickened), but I do not want to mislead anyone reading this.
    Thanks, best.

  • Why am I suddenly receiving the message: 5.1.0 - Unknown address error 501-"5.1.8 Bad sender's system address" I am only getting it for Mozilla Thunderbird

In the past three days, whenever I send a message, it does not go through. Instead, I get the message: 5.1.0 - Unknown address error 501- "5.1.8 Bad sender's system address". I tried downloading the newest version of Thunderbird but it did not work. I do not receive this message when using other software.

I had the look that you suggested. As far as I can tell there are no problems with the user name. Maybe I should check with my email company, Cogeco?

The appication is not already installed.
There are surprisingly few references to that phrase. Can anyone tell me what it means? Or why this Native AIR Extension installer fails?
    Thanks.

  • Has anyone addressed the AUR haskell depends/makedepends fiasco?

I've been searching around here, the web, and flyspray, and haven't found anything yet. Has anyone addressed the depends/makedepends fiasco with the Haskell PKGBUILD generated by the arch-haskell script?
    haskell-hdbc-sqlite3 > grep -i depends PKGBUILD
    makedepends=('ghc' 'haskell-cabal' 'haskell-hdbc>=2.1.0' 'haskell-utf8-string' 'sqlite3')
    depends=('ghc' 'haskell-cabal' 'haskell-hdbc>=2.1.0' 'haskell-utf8-string' 'sqlite3')
Do all 1000+ PKGBUILD have this problem? Surely someone's looking into this, right?
    --EDIT--
There are incorrect dependencies. There are 31 packages that depend on haskell-time of which a newer version is in GHC. The licenses are in non-standard places. Etc.
*** I recommend that all packages created by arch-haskell get removed from the AUR. ***

    Hello skottish.
Thanks for the bug report. It would be better directed by reporting a bug to the Arch Haskell team, http://www.haskell.org/mailman/listinfo/arch-haskell
Just some background, the Arch Haskell team is an group of about 12 developers, including 2 Arch core developers, engaged in supporting the Haskell programming langauge on Arch, bring the Haskell community to Arch, and advocating for Arch Linux. The effort is centered around the #archhaskell irc channel, the arch-haskell@ mailing list, archhaskell.wordpress.com and the wiki.
We're aware of the depends/makedepends issue. cabal2arch, the tool that packages Haskell software for Arch, used a seemingly incorrect understanding of the semantics of makdepends and depends. That has been fixed. Packages are being updated incrementally, and the situation as is causes no harm. The current semantics for Haskell packages wrt. dependencies are stated here: http://www.haskell.org/pipermail/arch-h … 00193.html
Regarding haskell-time, the reason packages are using an older version of haskell-time is that Arch Linux supports the Haskell Platform http://hackage.haskell.org/platform/ which specifies which versions of libraries to support on a distro. We follow that. It is a policy decision.
Regarding the licenses, they're placed where the package guide says. http://www.haskell.org/pipermail/arch-h … 00196.html
I'm not sure what you mean by "Etc."  but if you have a bug report in the packaging system, please report it to the mailing list.
