Replicate GL hierarchy in Discoverer for drilldown

I have a requirement to build the equivalent of a budget variance report using Discoverer, to enable the division managers to drill down to the various levels built into the existing GL hierarchy.
As an added degree of complexity, we need to calculate the budget variance, which required joining the actual row to the budget row and then calculating the variance.
We have tried using custom views to replicate the data, but the complexity of the query and the performance of the server makes the query time unreasonable.
Has anyone else been successful with this type of report?

Hi,
We have same situation. We have sales data in daily basis and goals data in quarterly basis. The user wants to see goals vs Actual report withthe rollup from client -> client Manager -> group Manager -> area Manager to president.
I used materialized view which holds the final data and build the folder based on this view. For us it redused access time from 30 min to 1 min.

  • Installation of Oracle Discoverer for PeopleSoft and Oracle apps(11.5.10)

    Hello Gurus,
I hope I am in the right forum. I have been assigned to install Oracle Discoverer for Oracle ERP (11.5.10). We currently have a Oracle Discoverer environment for Peoplesoft. My questions are follows.
    1. Can I use the existing Oracle Discoverer which is used to get PeopleSoft data for Oracle Applications (11.5.10) ?? This way I avoid installing another copy of Discoverer. In Future, if we could use the existing technology for other Databases.
    2. If I go in for a new install of Oracle Discoverer, what is that I need to install ? I am guessing, there should be
    1. Desktop application on the client
    2. Do I need to install anything on the server ?
    3. I will have a Oracle Discoverer database
I guess 1. (Desktop application) would be installed on all desktops ? Is there a web based thingy ?? For 2 and 3 I would require the DBA's to help me out.
Would anyone have a high level diagram of the things that go in for installation ? I would really appreciate if you could send it to kiranramachandra at yahoo dot com.
    Thanks folks
    Kiran

    Hi,
    1. No, you don't need to reinstall Discoverer, you can just connect to the new database provided you have updated the TNSNames.ora file. However, before you can connect with Discoverer Desktop you will need to use Discoverer Admin to create a new Apps mode EUL in the Applications Database.
    2. You will need a client installation of Discoverer (Admin and Desktop). If you want to use the web based Discoverer Plus and Viewer tools you will need to a Oracle Application Server installation. If you are installing Discoverer 10g then you should install the Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition. But depending on your version and configuration you may need to install other tools.

  • Oracle DB 10g and BI Discoverer for OLAP - Dimension Attributes

    Hi,
We are using Oracle Database 10g release 1 with partitioning, data mining and OLAP options and Analytic Workspace Manager 10.2.0.1.0A to create the multidimensional objects. For the user dimensions created using AWM we have custom attributes like HireDate, StartDate, Sales Personnel Role etc., For reporting purposes we are using Discoverer for OLAP. In this Discoverer version, I don't see an explicit provision to drag these attributes onto the worksheet. We are only able to filter based on these attributes and capture the measures...
Can someone throw light on this? Also, if there is a possibility to drag these attributes onto the worksheet can that be expounded?
    Thanks in advance!

Again this depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you define an attribute against a dimension it takes very little space as it is not directly connected to a cube and so no data is stored against that attribute.
If, however, you have a 4D revenue cube (product, geography, channel, time) with products attributes COLOR and PACK SIZE and you want to view revenue additionally borken-out by COLOR and PACK SIZE as well as the other four dimensions then your schema will require additional storage space. However, 10g compressed cubes and sparsity options do help to manage the explosion of data points as the number of dimensions increases. This should allow you to easily add attributes as dimensions into your cube.
One thing to remember is that most users start to struggle when confronted with more than 9 dimensions. So although Oracle OLAP can create extremely large dimensional models, users prefer their cubes to have 9 or fewer dimensions.
    Hope this helps,
    Keith

  • BW Tree Hierarchy-multiple selection for query possible?

    Hello,
I have a question in regards to BW Tree Hierarchies and its usage in Bex Reporting:
Is it possible to select multible Tree Hierarchy (based on the same characteristic) when executing a query in Bex Analyzer. If yes, how?
I tried to configure this by making use of a hierarchy variable on the characteristics, but it does only allow me to select one hierarchy.
    Thanks for your help,
    Elisabeth

    Elisabeth,
Your query can only assign one hierarchy per characteristic.
If you need multiple ones - I'd suggest you make a query per hierarchy and you can user Query Views in the WAD to let the user select the View (i.e.. the Hierarchy) they wise.

  • R/3 hierarchy in attributes for a Infoobject.

    Hi gurus;
Anybody knows how to convert a R/3 hierarchy in attributes for a Infoobject.
For example. We have the merchandise hierarchy in R/3 for material and we want to transform in several attributes of the 0material infoobject.
    May you help me?
    Thanks in advanced!!

Do you want to convert the hierarchy nodes as attributes of the info object? If so, try this:
Load the hierarchy to an ODS.
Keep the nodes as attrbutes of the info object.
From ODS load the info object.

  • How to implement uneven Hierarchy in Discoverer.

How can we implement a hierarchy which is uneven, that is for a dimension the lowest hiearchy level are not at one level? For example Project type being a dimension has highest level as A, with 2 children B and C. C further has one child D. B does not have any child. Normally we link the lowest level to the fact, which is then rolled up, but here we will have to link both B and D to the fact. In this case discoverer does not identify the hierarchy. One way is to put a dummy child for B, but can this be solved in a better way?
    Does anyone have any clues?

  • How to do this in Oracle discoverer for OLAP

I have two dimensions like commodity ( having 3 levels) and organisation ( having 8 levels) and Time ( Year- Quarter-Month) . The measure is Gross spend in USD. I have calculated 4 measures on this.
When I make the report in discoverer plus I have created the reports as organisation as page Items at level 1. Commodity is another dimension which i have put in left hand of the report.I want to compare specific month calcualtion to prior or future month selection with out having drill downs, because when we drill on year, it contains 3 quarters and contains 4 months.. the report is becoming very big and the calculations are getting for each year.how to avoid this
    ytd of dec 05 ytd of dec 06 % h % L Percentage

There is a Year to Date calculation template that will allow you to do this.

  • How to enable Scheduling in Discoverer for Oracle users?

    Hi,
For accessing discoverer, our users are uaing Oracle usernames.
how can i enable scheduling for them?
we have already enabled scheduling for users who use database login to use discoverer. but not able to link oracle users to database.
are they linked through the responsibilities they use for logging?
    thanks,
    Gayatri

    Hi Gayatri
If you're working in Apps mode and logging in with an E-Business Suite user account then by default the database account that will be used to access the database is APPS. You should not change this and there is nothing that you need to do to set this up apart from grant the user permission to schedule. You do that on the Scheduled Workbooks tab of the Privileges dialog box after choosing Tools | Privileges in the Administrator tool.
On a non-E-Business Suite application you can either grant privileges direct to the user or you can specify a proxy user for storing the scheduled results. In order to create such a proxy user you would need to run the script called batchusr.sql which you will find in this folder: $ORACLE_HOME\BIToolsHome_1\discoverer\util on the Windows machine where you have installed the Discoverer Administrator tool. In most cases this will be: C:\Oracle\BIToolsHome_1\discoverer\util
The following link will help considerably: http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B13916_04/scheduled_workbooks.htm#i1011948
Another method would be to use Oracle's concurrent manager to schedule the reports. My good friend Rod West has an article on this which I am hosting here on my website: http://ascbi.com/downloads/Third%20Party%20Documents/Scheduling%20through%20Concurrent%20Manager.pdf
    I hope this helps
    Best wishes

  • Unable to be discoverable for bluetooth

I have a bb bold model 9900.  I am attempting to connect to a bluetooth device in a car.   On my phone, after turning Bluetooth on, I advanced to Networks and Connections.  Under the Bluetooth heading I tried to set my phone to discoverable   The menu item will not change from"No"   Also when I go to Add New Devices... it allows me to search but when I hit Listen... I receive a message saying "Discoverable mode has been disabled by your system administrator"   -----This phone was purchased directly from Rogers and was never used for business so there never was a system administrator.
Under the Options icon I checked security status information    It shows the IT policy as BMO Social media... (where ever that came from?) but when I view the IT Policy there seems to be nothing that would affect my network and connections to Bluetooth...    Why can I not make my Bold Discoverable?????

Zero the drive, or use Windows 7 DVD to do so. But sounds like a bad block.
Clone your system is easy and straight forward.
Apple Disk Utility, RESTORE. Check Help menu.
SuperDuper shareware is free for whole drive.
You can freshly install, or you can restore, after you have your backups.
Step #1 in Boot Camp FAQ/pdf: backup your system.
You don't actually ERASE with Boot Camp Assistant, you REMOVE the partition. And you may not get back the space previously used.
I don't give Apple Disk Utility high marks for its abilities to repair and fix problems which is why there are so many 3rd party disk maintenance tools.

  • Filter for one hierarchy and expanding for another one?

    Hi to all,
We've a dimension A with 2 different hierarchies (call them as usual PARENTH1 and PARENTH2).
What I've been asked by the users is a little interface, where they can:
    - filter for one parent of the first hierarchy
    - expand for the parents of the second hierarchy, who share the same base members.
Initially I had hoped that imposing the value desired of the parenth1 in the PageKeyRange, and expanding with a filter like HIR="H2" and HLEVEL="2" would work, but it doesn't work (I get ALL the parents at level 2 of the second hierarchy, not the parents who shares the same basemembers).
Is it possible to model this with an evDRE? If so how? Unfortunately, I cannot make a single hierarchy (this parents aren't in a 1-N relationship between them, unfortunately).
    Thank you
    Daniele

    Hi James,
could you explain more in detail your solution? Because I tried it, and it didn't work as I expected...
Let me explain with an example
    Hierarchy1:
    Dir_01 has got 4 basemembers (test1, test2, test3, test4), while Dir_02 has got other 2 basemembers (test5, test6)
    Hierarchy 2
    Es1 has got 3 basemembers (test1, test2, test3), Es2 has got 1 basemember(test4), Es3 has got 2 basemembers (test5, test6)
What I would like to do is to
    - filter an evDRE with Dir_01
    - "expand" (I believe i've wrongfully explained myself in this point) with the other Hierarchy, which means: I want in the report only the nodes in the hierarchy 2 that share the same basemembers
In this way, I would have as available keys in my evDRE report:
    Es1
    Es2
With your solution, I even get Es3, which doesn't have any common basemember...
    Kind regards
    Daniele

  • Change Hierarchy default level for PS Reports

    Hi,
Can anyone advise how I can change the default hierarchy level when running a report painter report?
I would like the hierarchy level set to 4, so when I execute the report the display expands upto the network level.
I've tried to find settings in CJE2 and CJE5, but the herarchy maintenance was disabled.
If you could assist it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

The maximum level was already set to 99 for the database profile that I was using.
I have two structure reports that use the same database profile.
One expands to the 4th level, and one does not.
Is there a place in report painter or report writer to set the default hierarchy level?
    Thank you.

  • MSVS-2010 users: Can you *PLEASE* verify whether the "View Call Hierarchy" feature works for you?

I recently decided to educate myself in the intricacies of plugin development and have been experimenting with the set of Samples provided. Supposedly, Visual Studio 2010 (the official IDE for this development) has a very useful feature named "View Call Hierarchy", as described here:
    http://dhondiyals.wordpress.com/2011/07/20/call-hierarchy-a-handy-feature-in-visual-studio -2010/
My problem is that that feature never works for me in C/C++ projects. Regardless of what function name I right-click, I always get this error message:
"A function with the name 'xyz' could not be located"
Note: For C# projects, the feature works perfectly.
I have seen on the net some suggestions, from "remove the SDF (Intellisense) files" to "Reinstall Visual Studio".
I have 5 Visual Studio Pro installations in different computers and the feature does not work ever, in any one of them. I have tried with the Adobe source code, I have tried to create a basic MFC project and the feature does not work. I have tried C and C++ and it does not work.  Well, you get the idea.
Can you folks share your experience with this issue?
    TIA

  • Alternatives to Discoverer for simple reporting

    Hi,
I was wondering if there are any simple, low cost ( Oracle or 3rd party ) alternatives to Discoverer as a means for simple reporting against Oracle Databases
Oracle seem to be going the ( more costly ) BI Standard Edition One route as their replacement to what was good old simple Discoverer.
The beauty of Discoverer was that it was intended to be simple intuitive Reporting Tool for end users with little technical / sql knowledge.
I am just wondering what alternatives now sit in that space ?
    thanks,
    Jim
