What are the key benifits of have a standalone enqueue server. I also heard about replicated enqueue server too. what is this. please tell me about both . i.e. advantages and desadvantages

LAN throughput requirements for replicated enqueue server

Hello to everyone.
We are currently running a SAP system on Netweaver 7.0 and plan to put in place a high availability solution based on replicated enqueue server.
I would like to have my enqueue server on one site and the replicated enqueue server on a another site, 50 km away from the first one.
What are the minimal network requirements to ensure the replication would work without any problem: throughput and overall latency ?
According to your experience, does separating the enqueue server and the replicated enqueue server with 50 km makes sense ?

Dear Pascal,
if you are using a standalone enqueue server, any latency between the enqueue server and the replication server will add to the enqueue response time. You can of course, still pipeline requests, but the response time of a single enqueue request will be increased by two times the network latency (since the enqueue server has to inform the replication server about what has to be altered in the replicated enqueue table, and wait for a response that this has been successfully replicated).
It highly depends on what you want to do if this will be a serious problem. However, enqueue functionality is but a small part of an application. I would not expect enqueue operations to add to more than a single digit percentage of the overall runtime.

This is much more a hardware than a SAP question. For this scenario you need two host machines, one for the standalone enqueue server and one for the replicated enqueue server. Your hardware partner should help you implement this setup using a clustered switchover solution.

Enqueue server and Message server in ABAP/Java dual stack

Hi you guys,
I have some questions when studying SAP, could you please explain for me:
- In ABAP and Java system, do each stack have it own enqueue server and message server?
- What is the difference between Enqueue server and enqueue work process in ABAP stack?
- If there is one message server for each stack, which messager server (ABAP or Java) will the Web dispatcher connect directly to?
- How do ABAP message server and Java message server communicate with each other?

1. in Dual Stack, normally you have ABAP Stack and SCS Central service Instance. ABAP Instance has Message server, SCS has it own Message server and enqueue server. ABAP instance doesn't have enqueue server, because the SCS already has enqueue service
2. Communication between ABAP and J2EE Engine uses RFC (JCo) or HTTP Interface.
Web Dispatcher will connect to the ICM of that instance, and the ICM is talking to Abap dispatcher and J2EE Dispatcher.
3. The term: enqueue server and enqueue work process , already shows its different quite obviously.
What so confuse about it ? do some search on SAP Online Documentation.

SAP Enqueue Server needs 800 MB in NW CE SP3 Trial

We are very sorry that the SP3 download is delivered in an installation state that consumes more memory then it really needs. To solve this issue you can change some values in the profile CE1_SCS01_<hostname> in directory C:\usr\sap\CE1\SYS\profile (for an installation with standard values).

Standalone Enqueue Server and HA

We are implementing HA for NW04s AS Java and AS ABAP. As per the latest SAP recommendations, we have decided to decouple Central Service Instance for AS ABAP too (ASCS) and will implement the Standalone Enqueue server and enqueue replication server.
My question is that:
Given that the Central Service Instance already has the Enqueue Process decoupled from the Central Instance,
a) do we still need to install the Standalone Enqueue Server separately?
OR
b) is an SCS equivalent to the Standalone Enqueue Server?
IF the answer is a), does the SCS contain only the Message Service?

When you de-couple the Central Instance for ABAP, you will get enqueue server and message server for ABAP as part of ASCS. That provides enqueue and message server functionality for ABAP portion of you Add-In system.
You still need to install SCS for Java portion of your Add-In system.

In the enqueue server, do you receive a exception in the following scenarios?
1.You try to read a object/item which is already being read by other resource?
2.You try to write a object/item which is already being read by other resource?
3.You try to read a object/item which is already being written by other resource?

Replica Password Server Issue

I have and 10.6.3 OD master and OD replica set up. Everything looks okay in the logs for both, green light in Server admin for both, and seems fine on the surface.
I have various services (kerio mail, AFP, SMB) connecting to the OD Replica for authentication and directory info.
In the event that the OD master is down (restart or shutdown), everyone on the network trying to authenticate gets a message that their password has expired when trying to connect to AFP/SMB.
As soon as the OD master is back up, this goes away.
The email server doesn't seem to be affected, but every other service has issues (AFP, SMB).
I've tried re-creating the replica, by demoting to standalone and reconnecting to the OD master, and doing it again using slapconfig -destroyldapserver.
I've also checked the commandline pwpolicy on any account. It works fine and returns a result when the OD master is up.
But while the OD master is down and get this error:
*Error: eDSAuthNoAuthServerFound : (-14102) for dsDoDirNodeAuth
Method = dsAuthMethodStandard:dsAuthGetEffectivePolicy
/PasswordServer/192.168.0.50
*The OD Master's IP is x.50
I've always expected that if the OD Master goes down, the replica takes over authentication services. This doesn't seem to be the case. I think it did work before, but now doesn't? Or did I miss something in the manual?

Fixed the problem by:
1. Create an Archive of the OD Master.
2. Demote the OD Master to a Standalone. Restarted.
3. Promoted to Master, did a restore from the Archive in Step 1.
4. This destroyed all the replicas, so I had to demote the repclicas to a standalone, and redo the replication on each.
Afterwards everything was working again in regards to authentication failovers.

OD Replica Password Server Not Running

I have two Intel xServes running 10.5.1 server. The first server I created the OD master and that worked great. The second server I setup as an OD replica. They are both on the same network and no port are blocked between them. In fact they are in the same rack. When I created the replica it all started to work great. It authenticated and downloaded the OD database over SSH. Then it got to the point in the process on the replica that it said, "Starting replica service on Master". It just hung there and wouldn't go any further. I was watching the master OD the whole time and it showed the replica as being bound and enable and that everything was great, but the OD replica was still just sitting there waiting. So I closed the OD assistant window and when I did that the replica acted ok. LDAP server shows running and so does the Kerberos server. But Password server says stopped and I don't know why and want it fixed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same problem here running 10.5.2 server. You can start the Password server replica using slaconfig -starpasswordserver, but it not be a replica from master. If look at the Master's Password Service Replication log it states "DoSync: This password server does not have replicas."

DFS - Windows Server 08 not Replicating to Server 08 R2

I configured a Server 2008 to replicate to a Server 2008 R2 for availability purposes. When I run a Health Report, the only issues I see are "Replication of files encryptyed by EFS is not supported..." - which should not interrupt the entire replication
- and "Sharing violation are preventing replication of a folder..." - again, this should not interrupt replication, only for that file/folder.
I don't see any DFS errors in the logs, but the drive I am attempting to replicate needs to run chkdsk, which I am suspecting is preventing the replication?
Any other ideas I may have missed?

Hi,
Generally "sharing violation" issue is caused that files in source is locked by some processes.
However I don't think check disk process will affect the replication unless it is in running. If it need to be performed, just do a check disk to eliminate it from possible cause.
Also as EFS error occurs in your health report, it is still recommended to disable any EFS encrypted folders and try the replication again.

Enqueue Server

I am getting a System Error message "System Error occured during lock management" in DWB when I use RSA1.Further it gives the message "Tree is locked and cannot be built".With this error the right panel of RSA1 shows blank.Does anyone encountered this problem and may I know the solution to resolve this issue asap.

Soft-restart of Java node by using command line utility

Does Jcmon issue soft-restart?
We have problem with Veritas Cluster. When there failover occurs, Java nodes appears to be online when we check from SMICM, but in fact it looses connection to the central instance. We have to issue a soft-restart for each java node to create connection again. It is a known bug and this only can be fixed by using replicated enqueue server. This only available in SP, which we can not apply right now. What I want to do is to create a script to automate the soft-restart which will be run just after failover.

Sun cluster: scalable cluster configuration

is it possible to configure the scalable - load sharing cluster for SAP with oracle 10g database using only Sun Cluster 3.1 software with out oracle RAC.
If yes how sun cluster manage the two database instance on different nodes?

Now, you would need the real SAP expert.
If you want to have more than 1 DB instance (to reduce failover times) you need a parallel DB, in the case of Oracle this is Oracle RAC. If you have a single instance Oracle DB, this would be restarted in case of a failover.
I think the only thing in SAP that is scalable is the app server. (I remember that there is also support for a replicated enqueue server, but that is a different issue) But if you had SAP (is this the CI only?) on one node and the DB on the other, you very probably would only have to restart the service that would failover in case of a node failure and not both.
I recommend getting a more detailed answer by an SAP expert.

If Enqueue Replication server is configured, can you tell me how to check the Lock Table size value, which we set using profile parameter enque/table_size.
If enque server is configured in the same host as CI, it can be checked using
ST02 --> Detail Analysis Menu --> Storage --> Shared Memory Detail --> Enque Table
As it is a Standalone Enqueue Server, I don't know where to check this value.
