Oracle Standard one version problem
Dear all
My company got a Oracle Standard one 10g version license. However, after I downloaded the Oracle from OTN. When I tried to install the Oracle, I only got 'Enterprise', 'Standard' and 'Personal' option from installation. Is that mean I select the 'Standard' option for my installation, or I need to download another version from Oracle ?
Thanks
KwanHi,<br>
<br>
You're right, there is only one binary to download for the three editions.<br>
Read the doc Oracle Database Installation Types<br>

Oracle standard one downgrade to which version ?
Dear all
Can I downgrade the Oracle standard one version to Oracle 8i/8 version
Thanks in Advance
KwanWhat do you mean by "downgrade"? And why would you consider downgrading to a desupported version of Oracle?
Licensing issues aside, you would have to export your entire database from 10g Standard Edition One and import it into whatever version of Oracle you want. Whether that would be possible would depend on things such as whether you are using any structures that weren't available in the earlier release.

Replication ... Oracle Standard / Enterprise
I am trying to replication a schema from one server to another. (Both running Oracle 8i Standard). I was told that I need Oracle Enterprise to do it? Is it true? What is a good article to read to start me off the process. I don't need anything fancy. Just a fullreplication from one server to another.
MultiMaster replication is only available in the Enterprise Edition.
Oracle8(O8i) i Standard Edition(SE) supports updatable materialized views(snapshots) in 2 ways:
1) O8i SE can be an updatable materialized view site
2) O8i SE can be a single-node master site for other updatable materialized view sites.
Now for some terms:
Replication is the process of copying and maintaining database objects in multiple databases that make up a distributed database system.
In Oracle Advanced Replication, changes applied at one site are captured and stored locally before being forwarded and applied at each of the remote locations.
In multimaster replication, replicated objects are grouped into one or more replication groups. The changes made to tables are captured into locally into a queue. A background job picks up the changes from the queue, propagating and applying each change to each remote master site participating in the replication group. Each master site has a complete copy of all of the replicated objects in the group. The changes can be pushed to each of the remote sites continuously, automatically at a particular time or particular interval, or performed "on demand". All of the masters participate equally in the replication group: Changes made at any site are sent to all other participating sites.
Materialized view replication(aka snapshot replication), on the other hand, is a periodic bulk transfer(refresh) of the replicated table. The refresh can be either a complete refresh, where all of the rows from the master site are pulled down to the materialized view site, or an incremental refresh, where only the most current version of the rows that have changed since the last refresh of the particular materialized view are retrieved. A materialized view can be a complete copy of table or a subset of the table. Materialized views are frequently used in situations where the replicated site is intermittently connected to the master site. Materialized views can also be updatable. Changes made to replicated tables at a materialized view site are propagated and applied to the master site before a refresh or resynchronization with the master site.
For further information, check out the overview of replication in the Oracle8i Replication manual online -
I succesfully configured and performed the goldengate replication from MySQL 5.1 to Oracle XE 11g using GG 11g as per
http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/fmw/goldengate/11g/GGS_Sect_Config_UX_MSQ_to_UX_ORA.pdf
After replication was successully started working I added a new column to one of the test tables TCUSTMER
ALTER TABLE TCUSTMER ADD COLUMN ADDRESS VARCHAR(64) DEFAULT NULL;
And inserted another row in the same table.
INSERT INTO TCUSTMER VALUES ('CLARK', 'CLARK BOATS', 'REDWOOD', 'CA', 'Test Addresss1');
As soon as I did that the replication broke.
2015-04-16 17:42:44 ERROR OGG-00146 VAM function VAMRead returned unexpected result: error 600 - VAM Client Report <CAUSE OF FAILURE : Table Metadata Altered cause
WHEN FAILED : While processing table map event in log processor
Then I reverted the DDL change back to original
ALTER TABLE TCUSTMER DROP COLUMN ADDRESS;
and tried to run the replication again
But it is not starting as before.
What should I do to move forward with same setup.Hi ,
Whenever you do a DDL change in the Source table, you have to make the same changes in the Target side also. Then recreate the Definition File, copy it to the Target side and Start the GoldenGate processes.
1. Add the column in the Target side.
2. Recreate the Definition File and copy it to the Target side.
3. Recreate the Replicat process in the Target side and try to start it.
Hope this works..!!!!!!!! Any other suggestions friends????????

Upgrade Oracle from Oracle9i to Oracle 10g
Hi,
We will be having a project on upgrading the existing version of Oracle 9i to 10g.
Our application uses Java as the front end and Oracle as the backend.
So if anyone has done similar kind of Oracle upgrade from 9i to 10g, could you please tell us –
1) What are the steps involved in upgrading Java drivers (if any).
2) Also any other changes to be made on Java front.
Thank you,

I have the following queries:
1. Does any third-party application running on Oracle 9i Enterprise Edition need to be changed when we migrate from 9i database server to Oracle Standard One Edition 10g?
2. What's the difference between Oracle 9i Enterprise and Oracle Standard One Edition 10g?
3. We are using Oracle 9i Database on a server with Oracle 9i Client on nodes with third-party software. When we upgrade our 9i server to 10g, can we connect to 10g from our existing 9i client nodes? Slowly we can upgrade all 9i clients to 10g clients. Otherwise, all the machines in the company need to be changed to 10g client and work will suffer a lot, as this upgrade job cannot be done in a single day. -
Can NOT install Standard ONE on a 2 quad-core processor machine (licensing)
This is from Oracle's licensing (July 2009):
===================================
“When licensing Oracle programs with Standard Edition One or Standard Edition in the product name, a processor is counted equivalent to a socket. However, in the case of multi-chip modules, each chip in the multi-chip module is counted as one occupied socket.”
This is also from Oracle's licensing (July 2009):
=====================================
“Oracle Database Standard Edition can only be licensed on servers that have a maximum capacity of 4 sockets. Oracle Standard Edition One may only be licensed on servers that have a maximum capacity of 2 sockets.”
Now, this is what it seems to be:
===========================
1 quad-core AMD/Intel Xeon chip counts as 4x0.5=2 sockets (reached the maximum capacity limit in the licensing terms) by simply using 1 (single) quad-core CPU box.
and that's it - you can NOT install Standard Edition ONE on a 2 quad-core CPU Linux box :(((((
For a AMD/Intel multi-core Linux boxes
===============================
it can be a single quad-core CPU box (4x0.5=2 sockets -- but, paying twice the processor license - because it is now 2 sockets) or
it can be a 2 dual-core CPU (2X2x0.5=2 sockets -- but, paying twice the processor license) or
it can be a single dual-core CPU box (2x0.5=1 -- paying only a single processor license)
I think it is time for Oracle to revisit the licensing terms for Standard ONE edition and change it to simple socket count (don't count the cores). It is getting more expensive to use Oracle Standard ONE.zaferaktan wrote:
Everybody should also know - and OPN folks confirmed this morning - that an Oracle Sales person does not have the "legal" authority to overwrite what is written in OLSA. Sales can not rewrite the OLSA. However, Sales can request changes or addendums to the specific contract, which are reviewed by Oracle Legal and approved by Sales senior management (right up to Charles and Larry if needed).
That said, very few Oracle employees are allowed to discuss any aspect of licensing terms. The official first point of contact is Sales, and they may only be the carrier pigeon of missives from the authority.
When someone buys Oracle, OLSA is the only legally binding document. Everybody should keep the copy of the OLSA which is in effect at the time of their purchase, given that OLSA can be modified at a later date from the actual purchase.That happens to be true of any license or sales agreement, from Oracle or not. Also note that if you purchase support, renewals may affect the original OLSA.
And it's one of the reasons old timers in these forums (such as Dan and myself) will prefix nearly any license discussion in the forums with "check with sales" and suffix it with "and anything you hear on the internet is probably useless in a court of law when you get audited".
and after all that - thanks for digging into the details and posting them.
(With the warning to any others using the information that the facts need to be reconfirmed for each individual case and date. A judge usually frowns on a defense of "It happened to a friend of a friend of mine" or "I read it on the internet")

By the way - what you write is a change of policy. At one time, a box that could support 4 CPU but only had 2 CPU installed would not qualify for SE1. Good news indeed. -
Hello,
what are the options for near real-time replication from a 10g database to a version 8 one?What verion of 8? There is a huge difference between, say, 8.0.5 and 8.1.7.
Define "near real-time" in your situation. Are we talking minutes? seconds? hours?

Best way to change from Oracle 11gR2 Standard Edition to Standard one..?
Hi,
I have installed Oracle 11gR2 Standard edition+ installed database and additional software (which looks into the Oracle 11g database) in around 20 PCs (company)
But now the management says that they got license only for 11g Standard one edition (Standard one is significantly cheaper than standard edition)
So I have to change the Oracle edition from Standard to Standard one now..We only need standard one edition features in the PCs.
Can somebody please advise what would be the best way to do this? Do I have to uninstall all database and reinstall standard one edition again?
I will be grateful if somebody says some kind of upgrade is possible(in this case degrade!)..
Pls ..waiting for a reply..its very urgent!
Thanks®ards..Yes I agree there was standard and standard one options and I selected standard.
But how to confirm?

Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
CORE 11.2.0.1.0 Production
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
It doesnt say anything..where else will I check?
Also as said in the previous post,
1) SE max. 4 sockets , SE1 2 sockets <======== hardware restriction
2) No RAC on SE1
3) No Automatic Workload Management (a RAC feature) on SE1
These apply to us.
So can we get a SE1 license, since we are not on RAC and satisfy all criteria for standard one.
Thanks&Regards -
One way replication from MS sql server to Oracle 10g
Hi,
We are using Sql server 2005 windows 2003 32 bit and Oracle 10g 10.2.0.3 on linux 64 bit
Is it possible to replcate table data on real time from sql server (2005 32 bit or sql server 2000 32 bit)to oracle 10g running on linux 64 bit?
If yes then what are the steps.
It will be one way replication from sql server to oracle.
Which option is best sql server dts or Oracle Stream replication to replicate table data?
Regards,If you want to push data from SqlServer, then ODBC, Linked tables, DTS etc.
If you want to pull data from Oracle, then Heterogenous Services / Gateway. -
Oracle spatial relationships works differently from one version to another
Hi, recently we migrate versión of Oracle, from 11.1.0.6 to 11.2.0.4, and we have some troubles with relationships in Oracle, in previous version the next script return COVERS but in actual version return TOUCH, we have many functions in Oracle using the function SDO_RELATE so its very dificult to change plsql code, my question is why is diferent the logic of relationships with this new version? or we have to do something to configure this?
I appreciate all the help...

COVERS: The interior of one object is completely contained in the interior or the boundary of the other object and their boundaries intersect.
TOUCH: The boundaries intersect but the interiors do not intersect.
The line is completely contained in the boundary of the polygon, that is why the result must be COVERS not TOUCH -

I want to clear out some issue abt Oracle 10g Standard One and Partitioning. On the internet I have found that one of the Oracle Enterprise Edition Features not available in Oracle Standard Edition One is:
Oracle partitioning - For database over 100 gigabytes
Can someone confirm this? Does it actually mean that there is actually PARTITIONING in Oracle10g Standard One if the database is less than 100GB ?
thanksI don't believe partitioning is available in the standard edition (or in Standard Edition One). The comment you refer to is likely explaining the sort of databases that might benefit from partitioning-- there aren't a lot of folks that would want to partition database tables if the database was only a few GB in size.

Can a C++ client use Oracle Standard or Oracle Enterprise version?
Can a C++ client use Oracle Standard or Oracle Enterprise version of Coherence or is the Grid edition required? Please keep in mind that I am only interested in doing what is legal from a licensing standpoint, even if some other options are technically possible.
Regards,
isailhobieYes, a C++ (or .NET) client can access a Coherence Grid regardless of what edition is licensed. In our parlance, this is called a "Data Client". A Data Client provides you access to data and services on the grid, for example with put/get/query, etc. A "Real Time Client" requires a Grid Edition license. Real Time Clients allow real-time synchronization with the grid; this enables continuous query caches, near cache, etc.
For a complete description of Coherence features by edition, including discussion of the three types of clients, please see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14526_01/coh.350/e14510/appfeatures.htm#BABIGHCF
