Replication from secondary site to primary site

When we want to replicate from secondary site to primary site then we can't use database replication. Why?

Not sure what you mean... The replication between primary sites and secondary sites is using both database replication and file replication. See for more information:

  • Manual Client Push from Secondary Site

    Setup:  SCCM2012R2
One Primary Site > AD System Discovery Enabled
One Secondary Site > no discovery methods configured
IP boundaries are specified so that remote workstation(s) will use the Secondary as their MP.  Auto-install client option disabled for both primary and secondary sites.  Client install settings are set up identical for both site servers. (same
    user account and same sitecode)
Issue:  When attempting to manually push the client install, it will not use the "specified" site server.
Example:  Workstation was discovered using AD Discovery by primary site (since AD Discovery is not supported by a secondary site, or so it would appear).  The workstation IP is part of a boundary defined to belong to the secondary site.
Settings selected in the manual client push:
[X] Always install the client software
[X] Install the client software from a specified site:
                Select -> "Secondary Site"
The workstation never receives the ccm-install package.  Nothing appears in the ccm.log file on the Secondary Site server indicating install initialization.
If I run the manual client push again, but this time I leave the box un-checked for "install client software from a specified site," the install runs from the primary site.  CCM.log file on the Primary site confirms installation, and the ccmsetup
folder appears on the workstation immediately.
It was my understanding, that a boundary would 'point' the workstation to the Secondary site for deployments, etc..  And even if that isn't true, I have specifically told it to install it from the Secondary Site.
Other notes - the workstation receiving the client resides in the same remote office as the secondary site server.  Ideally, we want to limit WAN traffic.  I would like to avoid pushing the client across the WAN for several hundred clients.
What am I missing here?  Why won't clients install from the secondary site, even when specifically set to do so?

Very good information. Thank you for clarifying the reason they were listed with the secondary site code in the console.  It confused me - as it didn't line up with what I had read.
At this time, I have about 40 'resources' with no site code. These don't fall in a boundary, but that will be fixed when I create/configure the proper boundaries.  The rest have a site code - most primary and others secondary, depending on their
    install status and boundary.
I gave the blog post a quick read, but I'll need to go back and read it again to soak in everything that was discussed.  Thank you for sharing that.  Believe it or not, I had stumbled upon your blog once before for something else (it looked familiar).
    It is now bookmarked.
And as I was typing this looking over everything, I found something new....
I'm embarrassed to say that I found the Secondary site replication link was in an error state. Both sites were up - they just weren't talking.  The error was a couple days ago - when I started down this path.  Sadly, alert notification has
not yet been configured.  I'm happy I found it - but I'm angry I wasted your efforts for a simple replication error.
A quick reboot of the secondary server seems to have done the trick.  All of those queued up client pushes show up in the CCM.log now.  They began flooding in after the reboot.
Thank you again for your patience and helpful responses.

  • Site Code for SCCM Clients installed from Secondary Site Server

    Hello,
We have started the implementation of SCCM 2012 R2 at our network. We have setup a Primary site (JFO) server & pushed out the installation of SCCM clients to the local subnet. Things went fine.
We have installed a Secondary site (ATC) at a remote network. We have tested client installation in the installation wizard we specify to install the client from the Secondary server. When SCCM client installed from the Secondary server, the site
code that appears on the client in the control panel->Configuration Manager client settings is the site code of the primary site and not the secondary site.
    Is this behavior is normal

Ultimately, secondary sites do *not* manage clients and so will never be assigned to the secondary site. However, do note that resources in the console that represent systems that do not have the client agent may show the site code of the secondary site
if they fall within a boundary group associated with that secondary site. This is done so that client push can be initiated from the correct site. More gory details at http://blog.configmgrftw.com/secondary-sites-and-boundary-groups/

  • Booting from Secondary BE if primary BE disk fails

    Hello,
I have used separate disks to configure primary and secondary BEs.
I want to simulate a scenario where the primary BE and active disk fails.
What are the possible ways to activate and boot from Secondary BE disk?
    Thanks and Regards
    asutosh

An easy way is to drop to ok prompt and issue a boot command referencing your secondary (mirror?) boot disk. You may want to consider setting up an alias for it whilst you are there, if one has not already been made.
A 'bad' way to do it is to 'pull the plug' on your primary disk ... ;)

  • Procedure performing a "Retry Secondary Site" Operation in SCCM 2012 R2 Secondary Server

    Dear Brother,
My SCCM 2012 R2 Secondary Site Server, unfortunately crashed and required to be restored, doing this I end up performing a "Retry Secondary Site Operation.
One by one I am clearing out the errors but there are few remaining errors on the prerequisite checks:
1.[Failed]:The logon account for the SQL Server service cannot be a local user account, NT SERVICE\<sql service name> or LOCAL SERVICE.  You must configure the SQL Server service to use a valid domain account, NETWORK SERVICE, or LOCAL SYSTEM.
Actions Done: SQL Related Services use Logon As Domain Account "Microsoft-Domain\BillAdmin" , but still the above message still appears in the logs.
    Actions Done: None
2.[Failed]:The collation of the site database does not match the collation of the parent site's database.  All sites in a hierarchy must use the same database collation.
3.[Failed]:The site server might be unable to publish to Active Directory. The computer account for the site server must have Full Control permissions to the System Management container in its Active Directory domain. You can ignore this warning if you have
manually verified these permissions. For more information about your options to configure required permissions, see
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=233190.
Actions Done: None, as this machine is previously a working Secondary site for 1 Year already. So I do not suspect anything from the current related configuration.
4.[Failed]: Either the user account running Configuration Manager Setup does not have sysadmin SQL Server role permissions on the SQL Server instance selected for site database installation, or the SQL Server instance could not be contacted to verify permissions.
    Setup cannot continue.
Action Taken:  Domain Account "Microsoft-Domain\BillAdmin" has a
Sysadmin roles and actually all the check boxes are chosen to acquire all SQL account roles"
    5. [Failed]:Prerequisite checks complete with failure - check ConfigMgrPrereq.log
in the root of the primary site server system drive.
6[Failed]:Unable to complete secondary site server installation - check ConfigMgrSetup.log in the root of the secondary site server system drive.

  • SCCM 2012 Clients at Secondary Site don't update and shows status as INACTIVE

I have 1 Primary site and 1 Secondary sites. I have setup Secondary site Boundaries using IP subnet.  I see that the systems from secondary
site show in the console and they all have clients installed but however 60% of the system shows client activity as INACTIVE and not receiving any heartbeat DDR none of the system showing hardware inventory.   I am not positive
where to look as far as logs are concerned.  I think the clients aren't receiving policy like they should.
Just to give a brief idea, Secondary Site server crashed and we had to rebuild the server and re install secondary site after rebuilding all the
problem. Everything is working fine in Primary site.
Secondary site is communicating with primary site MP and DP
I have checked MPcontrol.log it shows status as OK
I am able to install client through console but yes when I check the configuration manager properties it shows CCM Notification Agent as DISSABLED
and in the Action Tab Machine and User policy are the only cycles showing.
Checked replmgr.log and rclctrl.log but it’s not showing any error
Only log file which shows error is bgdserver.log  ( pasting log errors )

    Hi,
Quote:"see that the systems from secondary site show in the console and they all have clients installed but however 60% of the system shows client activity as INACTIVE and not receiving any heartbeat DDR none of the system showing hardware inventory. "
So not all the clients show inactive? Have you checked the logs in an inactive client? Such as ClientIDManagerStartup.log.
Have you checked Secondary Site server's computer name from SQL logins? You could try to remove this account, wait a while, recreate the same computeraccount login with sysadmin access. (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/d5383c23-6b71-47cc-9fad-fda82a44a3aa/secondary-site-showing-inactive-clients?forum=configmanagerdeployment)
You could use Configuration Analyzer for System Center 2012 R2 to troubleshoot issues.

  • SCCM Console on Secondary Site 2012 R2

    Hi all,
I just want to ask whether it is supported or not when install SCCM Console on Secondary Site Server in 2012 R2? I've searched over internet but does not find a conclusion about that.
From technet SCCM Console requirement and interoperability, there is no information that restrict install console from Secondary Site Server, but this link say it is not supported:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/7c31b2d6-130c-46d6-b24d-108110cb0b61/install-sccm-admin-console-on-secondary-site-servers-failed-on-one-of-two-server?forum=configmgradminconsole
Has anyone try this, because today i installed console from one of my secondary site server and successfully connected with the primary site. Hope that does not break anything because with the ability of RBAC in 2012 R2, i can assign the admin at branch
site permission he need to manage the clients in this secondary site.
    Thanks,

I've seen it working with multiple customer. Also, I can imagine that it wouldn't be a supported scenario, purely because it's not tested (both new installations as upgrades).
As, I'm not working for Microsoft and it's not documented, I can't give you any official statements.

  • Assign the exsiting clients to Secondary site

    Hi Guys,
I need some directions to following issues.
We have SCCM 2012 SP1, managing clients in 2 different countries.
We have primary site in country A and secondary site in country B.
Under country A we have 2000 clients in various locations and in country B we have 5000 clients across various locations.
The link between country A and B is very limited (8MB) link. So recently the link getting smashed because of most of the clients from country B are assigned to Primary site in country A. Also we have SUP installed only on the primary server, which means all
the clients were getting the updates Catalog through WAN.
So we have installed secondary SUP in country B, however most of the clients from country B still getting the updates from primary SUP.
    Now, what we are trying to achieve is;
First, assign all the clients in country B to secondary site.
Second, switch the country B clients from primary SUP to secondary SUP.
So to switch the clients to secondary site,  under the boundary groups -> references ->Site Assignment we have chosen to assigned site to Secondary site.
    Now,
1, how can we assign the clients to a secondary site? How long will it take to show up in the location log? It has been 24 hours and still the client machines location log showing the primary site MP details.  Is there any way we can force
    this process to speed up?
2, when we assign the existing clients from Primary site to secondary site, will it reassign SUP to secondary site as well? If No, how can we force the existing clients to communicate with secondary SUP?
I know, the SUP switch will only be possible when the primary SUP is not available and after x times of re-tries the client will fall back to the secondary SUP. In our scenario we cannot make our primary SUP offline, if we do this then all the clients from
country A will get the Catalog from secondary site, which will cause the network issues. So Apart from this, is there any other way (Resetting ANY client policies, uninstalling and re-instilling client, any other settings we can do to re-check the SUP) to
    switch to secondary SUP?
Any help/ideas will be much appreciated.

Is the management point at the secondary site published to active directory? The clients will try to query AD to find their local Management Point.
Clients search for a Management Point by using the below options in the order specified:
    Management point
    Active Directory
     Domain Services
    DNS
    WINS
    http://systemcenter.learnmsexchange.com/system-center/system-center-2012/sccm-2012/8-management-points-in-sccm-2012
If you haven't published the MP to AD for the secondary site there is a chance the clients just don't see it. The MP is installed on the same server as the secondary site, correct? What hardware are you running this secondary site on (cpu and ram)?

  • CM2012 secondary server to primary server database sync

    Hi friends,
I want to measure the secondary server database to primary server database traffic? How often it gets replicated and how to measure what exactly is getting replicated.
    Background work done:
I did measure using perfmon and found that sec server to primary is  ~900MB/hr
I did look at the sp and tables for global_proxy tables and the data is getting replicated from primary to secondary.
    Thanks in advance.
    saravanan rajappa

Hi Torsten Thalnk you, we are seeing very abnormal traffic between our secondary ( in which ~4000 clients are reporting) to primary server database(again primary server db in remote, individual box and not with SMS provider). I am trying to find which
table/file replication is behind the very high traffic. Any lead will be great help. P.s : it is not the file replication issue since file replication from secondary server going to primary server SMS provider box. also, I am planning to look SQL perspective
and trying to find out SQL replication and broker service point of view the replication data. Basically, I need to find out exact data - files or tables or ? And their sizes. So I will know if our updates scan cycles/hardware inventory/CI/state messages or
some other thing is aggressive which can be tuned to reduce this traffic which is impacting WAN link Thank you in advance

  • ConfigMgr 2012 - Expected compression ratio for upstream traffic - Secondary site to Primary

What compression ratio should we expect for upstream traffic (I guess mostly specific to inventory) from a ConfigMgr 2012 secondary site to a primary? We are debating between secondary site and DP for some sites with slow network links.
We are concerned about SQL replication even working with a secondary site on some of the slower link sites (e.g. 512K)
    Thank you.

It doesn't, I just wanted to get the full picture since you mentioned you were debating between secondary sites vs. dp's.  In my personal experience I've seen customers who want to do a Primary and Secondary when they only have a few hundred PC's and
2 locations (which often is overkill depending on bandwidth and other factors).  Just wanted to make sure I had all info first.
I'll try to find some exact numbers for you, I don't have any handy unfortunately.  In the meantime, here's this page in case you haven't seen it yet.  It is pretty handy and has some links to other, potentially useful pages.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712701.aspx
I can tell you from past experience the delta's that SCCM 2012 does for inventory are pretty low impact, but again, I don't have any exact numbers or ranges.  I do apologize I don't have exactly what you're needing handy.  I'll reply back if I
    can dig them up.

  • SCCM 2007 - All clients from primary site have vanished from central site collections

    Hi all,
we have a SCCM 2007 R2 setup with one central site, one Primary Site (A) with a secondary site hanging off it and another Primary Site (B). Suddenly all the clients from the Primary Site A (and also it's Secondary Site) have vanished from the central
site. All the clients are still present when we check Collections from the admin console on Primary Site A site server - they have simply disappeared when we check Collections from the Central Site admin console.
Can anyone provide any info on a good starting point for troubleshooting this issue? As a sidenote, we can still push packages out to the Primary Site A distribution point and both the Primary and Central site can communicate/ping each other.
Any help/info would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

    Check the
site replication on central site, is that SQL is working fine, and also see the
inbox folder in central site, might be there is backlog and those DDR files are
not processing, and after maintenance they got deleted.<o:p></o:p>
    please run
the heartbeat discovery by hour or day, and once the clients will sent all the
DDR files then they will appears again.<o:p></o:p>

  • Content replication problem to secondary site

    Hi,
I have a problem with SCCM 2012 R2 replicating packages to a new secondary site.
The new secondary site server was installed a week ago.
The SSS was added to a DP group that had 713 packages assigned to it.
Throttling is configured so I was expecting it to take a few days to replicate however a week later 180 of the packages are still in progress.
All of the outstanding packages have a status of "The content files for the package xxxxxx have not yet arrived from the source site CAS. Distribution Manager will try again later to distribute the content" and the last status
time is about when the SSS was added to the DP group.
The parent primary site server is not a DP however it must have all the packages because they have successfully distributed to DP's in the primary site.
The environment looks healthy with no alerting component or site status messages.
The distmgr, sender and spooler logs on the parent primary show no signs of re-trying the packages
It looks like the package distributions have been forgotten.
I went to the properties for one of the problem packages, and selected to re-distribute to the SSS. Activity started straight away in the primary servers logs and the package was successfully deployed.
So my question is how can I kickstart the system back into life for the paused 180 package deployments just to the SSS DP without going into every package in turn and selecting re-distribute.
I guess I could write a powershell script to do this but hopefully there is an easier option
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Move secondary site (virtual machine) from one server to another server, something to take care?

    Hi guys
In our company we have a subsidiary with a simple infrastructure with a Domain Controller, some other virtual Server, Switches etc.
When we start to use the SCCM in our company, we take the decision that we want to install in this subsidiary a secondary site.
Thats why we organize a computer with good performance and installed ESXi on it. On the ESXI we create a VM with Windows Server 2012 and prepare it as secondary site.
All well and good. But now we want to setup a new infrastructor on this subsidiary with a high-performance Server. On this high performance server should also installed ESXi.
My question is, if we want to move the VM (which has installed our secondary site on it) from the computer to the server, do we need take care about something?
    - IP address is going to keep the same
    - No changes in Firewall
    - No changes generally Network IP address
We considered, that we will shutdown the server (virtual machine) and make an export and import that virtual machine into the new server.
    Thank you in advance!

As long as the OS "looks" the same to the external world -- which is the whole point of virtualization -- and is reachable using the same info -- IP, hostname -- then there's nothing to account for because to the application and the clients,
    nothing has changed.

  • How to set security group as primary site collection admin and secondary site collection admin using powershell in sharepoint online site - office 365?

How to set security group as primary site collection admin and secondary site collection admin using powershell in sharepoint online site - office 365?

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to set security group as admin of primary and secondary site collection using PowerShell command in office 365.
I suggest you can use the command below to set the group to site owner, then it will have the site collection admin permission.
Set-SPOSite -Identity https://contoso.sharepoint.com/sites/site1 -Owner [email protected] -NoWait
