Replication house tells me my burned pcm and ac3 is mpeg

Sorry for the double post, just saw this audio section.
I'm having a difficulty with my burned dvds apparently coming out mpeg audio. I exported from pp 1.0 a final mpeg video with PCM audio for my final dvd project. I used Encore CS3 to burn the disc. I sent in the disc to a replication house and they warned me that the audio was mpeg and would not work in all players.
So I checked my original exported file audio in the properties and it said PCM. But, just in case, I put it back in Encore and transcoded it as Dolby Digital (AC3), and burned that disc. I also burned another disc that was PCM.
They just informed me that the two new discs I sent in were not PCM and AC3 but were again MPEG audio.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for any help.

Thanks very much Ruud. I downloaded the MediaInfo and, if I'm reading the disc correctly, it appears that what I've been puzzled about was easily discovered.
I have a copyright warning as a first play. It was that copyright warning that had an silent audio track under it, and it was MPEG audio. My end action to that is the 88 minute documentary and it clearly says it's transcoded in AC-3.
I'm assuming that I need to reburn a disc and transcode that Copyright warning audio to AC-3 as well or just remove it? Or would you think it will not give anyone trouble since there is no real sound anyway.
I'd appreciate it if you'd look at the below MediaInfo over and see if I'm reading that right. Thanks so much. This is all new stuff to me.

  • Add PCM and AC3 to DVD

We are a DVD replicator in San Jose, CA. http://www.newcyberian.com. Lately we receive so many DVD masters from our clients that do not have PCM or AC3 audio stream. They play fine on most DVD players but we know that's a violation of the DVD spec. Is there a way to add either the PCM or AC3 to the DVD without re-authoring?
    Thanks!

There are several ways to get Assets into En. These methods will be somewhat dependent on which version of En (and NLE's) one has.
Since CS3, Adobe Dynamic Linking (DL) has been included, and was embelished in CS4. One can also Export from their NLE in several formats, for Import into En. En handles most of these formats fine. However, it can have some issues with muxed AV files. It can also have some problems with Sequences that use DL from PrPro. It's definitely when these problems crop up, that the use of elemental streams is suggested, though their use can certainly be employed in lieu of the other methods. For SD material/Projects, there are basically two choices for elemental streams: Export as DV-AVI Type II (Video-only) and let En do all of the Transcoding, either on Automatic, or by user settings, or Export to a DVD-compliant MPEG-2 (Video-only) from the NLE, and Import into En. In the latter, all Transcoding setting must be done by the user (see discussions on bit-budgeting and also Export settings). For the Audio, you will need either a PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit (Audio-only) file, or a DVD-compliant AC3 (Audio-only) file.
Some people do have luck with muxed (a multiplexed file containing both Audio and Video) files. However, these can cause problems for En. If one encounters these problems, testing with the elemental streams is recommended. This usually gets the Project out the door, and can by-pass some common problems.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS if DL works fine from PrPro to En, using it will save time and effort. If it does not work for your Project, then think about elemental streams instead. You can troublehsoot the DL issues afterwards. The DL in CS4 seems to have some issues. Read the many threads in this forum on some of them. Some seem to be resolved with fixes, or workarounds, but some seem to defy attempts to pin-point the problem and come up with a direct cure.

  • How to directly burn .m2v and .ac3 files on a DVD?

I made a DVD movie processing on Compressor but I forgot to select the "Job Action" (Create DVD), so now I have the 2 files .m2v and .ac3 but I have to burn the DVD. How can I do without re-processing the original movie?
    Thanks

If you have Toast or DVD Studio you can use these files. If not, you'll may need  to re-encode the movie.
But try this if you saved the the Compressor project that made those elementary streams. Reopen it and slightly change the name of the output files (say, by adding a numeric prefix to each name). When you do the yellow warning triangle should go away. Change the job action to burn DVD and submit, If it works, you should get a near-complete progress bar in a matter of seconds. Then you should be able to burn your physical disk or make a disk image for multiple copies.
    Good luck.

  • Best way to burn m2v and ac3 files to DVD

I recently compressed an exported final cut movie into DVD files - an ac3 audio file and an m2v video file.
I used Toast to burn them to a DVD but it did not finish correctly. I can hear the audio, but there is no video on the disc...just some graphic.
What is the best app to use to burn these files to a DVD? DVD Studio Pro? I don't need a menu, all I need is for the disc to play when it's inserted. I find that DVDSP is somewhat complex for burning a simple DVD.
I am going to try doing everything in Toast this time, but I've read that Toast is slow when it comes to encoding. Compressor was able to encode my 1hr 40min video in under 30 minutes....

My guess is that you added the .ac3 file directly to Toast and ended up with a Toast music DVD. The setting to use in Toast is DVD video in the Video window. Add only the .m2v file. Toast automatically adds the matching .ac3 file if it has the same name except for the extension and is in the same folder. If Toast can't find the audio it asks you to locate it.
You can choose Save as Disc Image and then mount the disc image for preview in DVD Player. If all is good burn the disc image to DVD using the Image File setting in the Copy window.

  • From EncoreCS3 DVD-9 VIDEO_TS folder to replication house via DDP (mastering steps in GEAR etc.)

Ok, the "solution" or steps I'm trying to provide here is not complete, just the way I see it now. We will do it this way as we want to deliver the DVD-9 dual layer DDP master to the replication house. The intention is that this should be corrected or fullfilled in order so that in the end we have a proper guide for everyone here, so people, read this, and share you info and if there is anything to be corrected or tips for making things work better.
    Here we go:
Let's assume we have created successfully a VIDEO_TS folder from Encore CS3, meaning we have not set a layer break yet, but otherwise we have a working product.
STEP 1. SET THE LAYER BREAK IN GEAR Mastering Edition, guide http://www.gearsoftware.com/howtoguides/dvdvideobreakpoint.cfm
Possible problems: non-seamless cells don't exist in the layer break window
Possible solution: Use PGCEdit to change the cell type from seamless to non-seamless. This happens by opening the VIDEO_TS folder with PGCEdit and then double clicking on the VTS which holds the layer break point "window" (the VTS you chose in GEAR). Then you deselect the seamless joint checkbox in the cell (making it non-seamsless) you want to use as the layer break. Then you press OK and save the DVD. After that you create a new project in GEAR, do the layerbreak calculations based on the newly changed VIDEO_TS (with the non-seamless cell) and re-open the selected VTS_xx_0.IFO now in IFOEdit where you can now find the a proper non-seamless cell address for the layer break. Now you should be able to finish setting the non-seamless layer break in GEAR.
Question: Do we have to and do we need to have the When saving, leave at least 32K of space between IFO and BUP" from the Options to be on when we do this in seamless joint change and save the dvd in PGCedit?
STEP 2. CREATE DDP IMAGE FROM THE PROJECT, guide: http://www.gearsoftware.com/howtoguides/dvdvideotoddp.cfm
STEP 3. TEST THE DDP IMAGE BY BURNING IT ON DVD-R DVD-9
First you need to restore the DDP Image you just created, guide http://www.gearsoftware.com/howtoguides/restoreddpimage.cfm
Burn the restored VIDEO_TS folder to DVD-9 with GEAR, guide
    http://www.gearsoftware.com/howtoguides/burndvdmovies.cfm
STEP 4. SEE HOW THE PRODUCT LOOKS LIKE WITH THE LAYER BREAK SET
-If the product looks good and the layer break makes you satisfied, deliver the DDP image to replication factory for replication.
.............Ok people, share your thoughts if something is wrong or if you got points to remember, answers to the questions given, suggest changes, or even better, write here a better version of this guide? The aim would be in the end having a guide which says all the required things in order to achieve a successfull DVD-9 project.

Neil, once again, thanks a lot.
    >The seamless/non-seamless question is a bit of a non-issue unless you are using multiple camera angles, as this is all it refers to. Unless you have multiple angles, ignore this completely.
In Multiple Angles (unsupported in Encore anyway) Seamless means there is no pause in playback when switching between angles. That is all.
So, I really thought the seamless/non-seamless would have affect on the actually layer switching when playing the DVD, so that it might affect the slight layer switch pause time. It's just that the gear guide says that you need to find a non-seamless break in the IFOedit, and that's it, so I guess it is a bit missleading there in that GEAR guide. But, I'm glad you cleared this out that this only has to do something with the multiangle views.
    >The 32kb of space is a "must-tick" option, otherwise you stand a high chance of having the master rejected by the factory. Nero is a bugger for running these 2 files (Video_TS.IFO & Video_TS.BUP) into what the player will see as one file.
Ok, so unless you use PGCEdit, this should be already ok in your project, right? But if you use PGCEdit for something like changing the seamless joint for multiple angles to your VIDEO_TS folder, this selection should be always on in PGCEdit.
    >One gotcha though - early versions of the GEAR Spreadsheet for calculating the layer break seem to give the VTS to use the start sector from as VTS_xx_0.VOB - this is wrong.
Yeah, luckily this seems to be fixed now in the GEAR guide calculator.
Another way I've found that is useful what comes to the selecting the layer break from the layer break "window" for your project is this:
In order to know exactly where the cell starts in your video, you can use IMGBurn to preview the cells, so that you can choose the most suitable cell from the "layer break window". This means following the SET THE LAYER BREAK IN GEAR Mastering Edition guide to the point where you have found out the "layer break window". Then when going to the IFOedit you can see the cells that fall in to this window. Mark them down in your notepad and open the VIDEO_TS in IMGBurn, set the BUILD mode, choose to burn the VIDEO_TS folder and proceed the workflow ahead until you get to the set the layer break window. In this window you can preview the cells of the project, being able to see the videos of the cells. Go through the cells you marked in the IFOedit and find the cell that starts in the least disturbing place where the possible pause might occur during the moment when your dvd player changes the layer. When you've chose your cell, cancel the process and continue what you were doing in the GEAR layer break guide.
If there are any other methods for this test purpose, or if there is something I'm missing, please share?
Question about choosing the layer break cell: Is it the fact that no matter how you have bitcalculated your project size when building it in Encore, the layer break window that the GEAR spreadsheet provides you, doesn't take this into account at all? Meaning, if you choose the biggest cell number from the layer break window to be the layer break cell, it will go over the 4% overhead at the outer layer edge? If this is the case, you shouldn't use the last cells from the layer break window at all? And should we always try to choose the cell with the smallest number no matter what (in order to make the layer break as far from the layer's outer edge)?

  • How do I export an HD project into SD for a replication house

This is totally baffling me. I shot on a canon 7d at 24p 1920x1080.
Project done and we're sending to discmakers tomorrow morning. Was sent today and they said they don't have the time to downconvert the footage and that for them to author the disc I need to send them a quicktime file that is NOT HD.. they stressed HAS TO BE SD.. LIKE A DVD.
I asked "what codec would you like.. they had no answer.. just kept saying SD quicktime.. WTH... someone help. Thanks
PS.. I know this question has been asked before.. most have. I have been searching online all day and no legitimate answers. Hope someone ewith the knowledge sees this as 8:00 will be here fast
Thanks in advance for being so helpful

What is it going to be replicated as -- a DVD?
If so, does your replication plant intend to do the compression and DVD authoring too? How are you going to make sure they get that part right?
When I have done jobs that are going to replication, I author the DVD in DVD Studio Pro with its menus, languages and subtitles as required by the client. That way we know the product will be presented exactly how they want it to be. I also provide label and cover artwork.
The replication folks then get a DLT (covered in the DVD SP manual) or a disc image on a USB drive or as a downloadable file. Even a burned disc will do if the client doesn't need region coding and copy protection.

I can get down as far as step 11 but it shows nothing about upper filters and when I type on "If the Upper Filters entry is missing follow these instructions" nothing happens
Do you mean you can't see the instructions on what to do if there is no UpperFilters entry?
If so, here's the relevant instructions for that step:
On the right side of the Registry Editor window, right-click the UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.
Right-click the empty white space within the right-hand portion of the Registry Editor window. From the shortcut menu, choose New > Multi-String Value.
Name this new value "UpperFilters" (without the quotes). Then, right-click the newly created UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.

    Hi There!
The camera is a Panasonic Lumix. I don't have a USB card reader. I did try and different port although not a different cable.
I did remember one additional thing. I plugged my camera in at work to a PC. It was after that, when I came home, that the iPhoto wasn't working when I connected my camera to our iMac/iPhoto at home. I think this may have caused the problem.

  • Whilst playing a selection from a CD I've put in my CD drive, I select Controls and then wish to increase the volume.  It tells me to Press Control and then Up.  Where is the Up button please ?  Thank you.

My question is how do I increase the volume when playing a CD in iTunes.  The volume slide is at full, but when I press Controls, it tells me to press Control and UP.  Where is the UP on my PC or is it on the screen ??
    Thank you.

It means the UP arrow on your keyboard. Depending on your keyboard, it is usually located on the right hand side of the keyboard, either with the numbers keys or below the Enter (Return) key.
However, Control/Up will simply attempt to move the slider in your iTunes programme further up. If the slider is already at the top, then those keys will have no effect, since the iTunes volume is already at maximum. Perhaps your computer's volume controls need adjusting.
In Windows XP, I believe (if I recall correctly) that the volume control is in Start/Accessories/ and either Volume or Mixer. In Windows 7, it's in Start/Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Adjust Sytem Volume.

    Hi braddyloopy,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes,  your music files should not be erased or affected in any way. It is always a good idea to back up your data before making any changes to your computer, though.
If you'd like to locate your music, this article explains how to find the files:
