Replication in 10g

I am trying to do the replication(Materialized views) between two remotely located servers. The data replicates from Mat view side to the master but not the other way round. I have run all the necessary scripts in both ends. The same script while run on 2 different windows 9i servers works fine. But when i switch to 10g in linux (remotely connected), it does one way communication. Besides, the insert/update at the Mat. view side becomes very slow. Could you please help me out in this?
dipin

Can you give us a bit more information about the exact symptoms you're seeing, what you've checked, how exactly you've tried to configure multi-master replication, what exactly "switch to 10g in linux" means, etc? So far, your description is rather vague, which make it extremely difficult to suggest alternatives.

  • Replication from 10g to 8

    Hello,
what are the options for near real-time replication from a 10g database to a version 8 one?

What verion of 8? There is a huge difference between, say, 8.0.5 and 8.1.7.
Define "near real-time" in your situation. Are we talking minutes? seconds? hours?

  • Migration Replication Environment (8i- 10g)

    Dear all
In my corporation we have a Environment Replication with 1 MasterSite and 20 SnapShotSites. All DataBases in this environments are version Oracle 8i, and we want to migrate it from 8.1.7 to 10.2.x. To decrease de cost of service we want to migrate only the MastarSite to 10g and leave the SnapShotSites in 8i.
The metalink note 207303.1 tell us about Interoperabylity Support Between Differentes Oracle Versions. In there, we realized that client 8.1.7 with server 10.2 "was a supported combination but one of the releases is no longer covered by..." and "This includes support for connection over databases links between Oracle Versions"
Although this metalink note, we made tests in develpment environment and the replication (8i->10g) worked successfully. We are afraid to implement this solution no covered by Oracle Support in production environment. Is there a tecnical problem to implementation that ?

    Hi Marcus,
just ensure that your clients or snapshot sites are 8.1.7.4 - but you are right: do to the fact that 8.1.7 is not under Error Correction Support anymore this combination will not be supported - but it'll work also for database links but on your own risk.
Please make sure to have a look into the upgrade companion for 10gR2 before you upgrade: ML-Note: 466181.1

  • Multiversions in Materialized View Replication Environment

    Dear friends
In my company we have a matarialized view environment where A materialized view, in snapshot site, contains a complete or partial copy of a target master - master site.
This environment is in Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition and now we are increasing it. We are shrinking our budget and then i'm research an solution more cheaper, i found Oracle 10G Database Standard Edition One, an solution desinged for small to medium environments. My thought is to use Oracle 10G SE1 for news snapshot sites.
Can someone talk about the user of differents versions (8i mastersite X 10G snapshotsite) in a Materialized View Replication Environment, is it possible? must i upgrade all my environment replication for 10G or to use multiversions ?
    Thanks !!

10g to 8i can work, assuming
    - 8i = 8.1.7
    - You are applying at least the 8.1.7.4 patchset to the master (8i) or you are applying the latest patchset to the slave (10g). Realistically, you probably want to do both.
If you are talking about using the standard edition, I assume that you are only doing basic replication, not multi-master replication. I also assume you are aware of the limitations on hardware that come with Standard Edition 1-- I don't recall if you are limited to machines that have a capacity for 2 or 4 CPU's. Also, be aware that Oracle considers multi-core CPU's as multiple CPU's.

  • How To Replicate Database In 10g rel. 2

    hi
if any one have a step by step guide for replication in 10g document the please send its link ?

    Hi Justin,
I would like to know about the database replication.I've just been sitting with the client and will tell you exactly what he needs.I am descriving the scenario below:
The client has 3 sites running databases at 3 different locations. The databases are Oracle 10g on Linux platform.Similar application is running at 3 locations and the database structure is also the same.
Now he wants to have another database at a central location (say HQ).At this HQ client wants tha he can have data from all the tables from the 3 databases at differetn tlocations. This central databasew ould only be READ ONLY.That is it would be used only to publish certain information on the web.No user would be able to acces it.All the manipulation of data wil be done at 3 databses itself. The master table is same ar the 3 locations and client has mechanism to identify the data once iot comes from any location.
That is..the data flow would be from # databases to HQ database. There isn't any issue about the updataion of data at central sir.Even if the data gets updated there even twice a day it would be fine with client.
Please suggest what kind of relication scenario would be advised here. What kind of issue might occur.
It would be real grateful if u can suggest some documentation for it since I'm not able to get anything substantial even after looking on web and metalink.
In case there is any book or suggested readin..pls let me know.I'l be grateful to you for your help.

  • Load Balancing and Failover with 10G Standard Edition

    Hi,
I am new to Oracle Replication and need some help setting up replication for load balancing and failover. Is this possible using Oracle 10G Standard Edition? I plan on having all updates done on the master site and both databases will be for reads. In case of failure of the master site, I would need to be able to failover to the other database.
Also, if anyone knows of any documention for Basic Replication in 10G, please let me know.
    Thanks.

Simple nnapshot replication of data would require significant manual effort to configure to load balance or failover. One the load balancing side, you would generally be limited to to static load balancing-- assigning half the users to one machine and the other half of the users to the other machine, regardless of who is actively using the machine. Failover would be a significant manual effort, particularly to bring the failed machine back into the cluster. You would be implementing the guts of multi-master replication.
Frankly, if you actually have a system which is valuable enough to need load balancing and disaster recovery, I'm going to wager that it will be far cheaper even in the short run to buy more boxes and/or enterprise edition licenses than to try to implement this sort of thing yourself. In the long run, it will be far cheaper, since it will be far easier to maintain. Building all this yourself would probably be penny wise and pound foolish.

  • Streams 9i to 10g

can I user oracle 9.2.0.1.0 as source for implementing streams across 9i-->10g or i need 9.2.0.6 or higher versions only??

Original question was about replication to 10g (not specified about R1 or R2)
For replication to 10gR2 you need to use 9.2.0.6 or 9.2.0.7 or 9.2.0.8 depends on platform. You need to apply patch for this bug. You can find out backport for this patch on metalink.
I think You can use 9.2.0.5 and up for 10gR1 replication. There is patch for 9.2.0.5 and Streams (do not remember number). You have to apply this patch to 9.2.0.5.

  • Replication Manager

    Hi
I am set up replication previously on 8i and 9i databases. I am trying to setup replication on 10g. Earlier I used to manually set up replication using APIs rather than using the Oracle replication manager.
Is it a good idea to setup replication using the replication manager? Does replication manager have any limitations? What will I gain if i setup replication manually using custom scripts?
    Thanks
    MG

The only advanced replication difference in capabilities between the replication manager and the API PL/SQL code I heard of is that you can replicate a subset of columns for a table with the replication manager only. Besides that, what you can do with one is possible with the other. My personal advice is to use the command line if you want to really learn this topic well.

  • Check list for upgrading from 10g to 11g when there is a schema replication

    Hi
We are looking to upgrade one of our production database from 10g to 11g
Currently this database has one schema that is replicated to 2 other databases using Oracle streams.
The replication is excluing DDLs and excluding several other application tables.
What should I do pre and post the upgrade ?
should we remove the stream configuration all together and rebuild it after the upgrade ?
I was hoping that we can first upgrade the two target databases to 11g and then the source database, without impacting our streams configuration at all
    Is that possible ?
Is there any documentation on the subject ?
    thanks in advance
    Orna

Pl post the OS versions of the source and target servers, along with exact (4-digit) versions of "10g" and "11g". I do not have any experience with streams, but the 11gR2 Upgrade Doc suggests that you upgrade the downstream target databases first before upgrading the source - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10819/upgrade.htm#CIAFJJFC

  • Question on replication in Oracle 10G Release 2

    Good day,
I have a few questions on setting up replication that fits my scenario described below. Thank you in advance for reading and answering my post.
    Scenario
I need to replicate 100-200 tables from the first OLTP server to the second DSS server that is read-only. The servers are physically located in different countries. Both servers use Oracle 10G Release 2. Required frequency of refreshes is 1-3 hours.
    Questions
    1. Is it optimal to use materialized views with fast/force refreshes for implementation of this scenario? If no, what are the better options?
    2. How do network interruptions and latency affect stability of work of replication with materialized views?
    3. How big is additional performance overhead at OLTP (source) server due to setting up replication with materialized views?

    1) I guess it depends on how you define "optimal". It's certainly a reasonable option. You might also look at Streams or even logical standby databases. There are various trade-offs involved, so it really depends on your environment.
    2) What does "stability of work of replication" mean, exactly? Obviously, if the network fails, the replication job(s) will generate errors. Depending on how you set things up, the replication process will be retried after increasing intervals until it succeeds.
    3) Maintaining materialized view logs on the OLTP system could certainly impact performance-- the logs have to be maintained synchronously with the OLTP transactions. That may or may not noticably impact OLTP transaction performance-- it's probably roughly equivalent to putting a trigger on each of the 100-200 tables. Something like Streams is designed to put less load on the source system because changes are captured asynchronously.

  • Can we use replication usings oracle 10g steams for EBS r12 database?

    HI,
We are using EBS 12.0.6 and database 10.2.0.3 on linux 32-bit/64-bit OS (Multi-Node env).
Actually We want to decrease the load of custom reports on actual production system, so thats why
we need reports server and as my past experience I had used oracle streams for replication with simple schema based replication and tablespace replication also.
So, please educate me, that can i used the oracle 10g streams for EBS schemas like APPS, GL ,INV, PO, ONT, ODM, AR, AP, CM etc?
Please provide us the above related env docs and road Map.
If you have any other way to create the Report Server?
    Regard,
    Fayaz Ahmed

    Hi,
We are not in a position to upgrade the EBS from 12.0.6 to 12.1, because this is lengthy task, but we had already tested technically it in test env, but functional testing in pending.
Now we want to immediate solution if possible, because this is production?
    So, please suggest another.

  • Data replication and synchronization in Oracle 10g XE.

We are trying to do data replication and synchronization sort of thing for all our servers. We are using Oracle 10g. XE. I guess there are some features in oracle already for replication but I am not very sure about them.
To explain it more clearly - we will have individual database servers in our sub-divisions and then divisions and centers and then main server. We need to synchronize at various levels. So If any body is aware of any techniques, please let me know.

    Hi,
Could you tell me what exactly synchronisation your talking about..?
we will have individual database servers in our sub-divisions and then divisions >>and centers and then main serverIf you have mulitple DB servers then you can connect it by DB links. also if you are talking DB synchronisation then you can have Triggers,Materialized views.
we also have two independent severs which are synchronised(atleast schema levels).
    Regards!
