Replication, Strems and Golden GateWay APIs
Hello,
For Oracle database replication is there any difference between Replication though Multi-master replication and those with Streams and Golden Gateway API.
What I want to know, Is there any major difference between Replication, Streams and Golden GateWay APIs. From there initial study it seems to be same things for comman functionality but with different names.
If this so, then don't you people think that Oracle create trouble for DBA by creating so many solution for comman task and the DBA have to learn different techniques because every orginization is using diffrent methodology for same task.
Don't you think that this create difficulty for DBAs from learning point of view.
Regards,
Abbasi
For me it boils down to requirements. For example, is the replication volume really high, am I replicating the entire database or just a few tables? Am I replicating across platforms, database versions, database vendors. These all have to be considered in the type of replication that may be selected. The requirements may dictate the type of replication available or even retrict your options.

Difference between Oracle Transparent Gateway and Golden Gate
Hi Guys
Could you please clear the confusion, What is the difference between Transparent gateway and Golden gate? are they same? In which situation which one to use?
Thanks in advanceuser8896122 wrote:

Transparent gateways are a cross-RDBMS "querying" mechanism

So you mean if an application (designed to work with oracle only ) can actually access SQL server or DB2 without any modificaton. If i am having transparent gateway on top of DB2 or SQL server ??You caught me. I should have used different words.
No. TG is a mechanism to query other RDBMS from Oracle. GG is a mechanism to have replication between any RDBMS. -
Consuming third party Payment Gateway API from Procedure.
Hi All,
First of all i would like to thank all the people of the oracle forum for providing very good solutions.
Here is my query.
We are implementing an eCommerce application using APEX in our project. As a part of this, we get the order details from other party in to our system via Secured channel and in an Encrypted Format.Once we import the orders in our system,we process the same and the processed orders are sent for Payment Gateway for Payment Processing. We are planning to process these request at the backend by writing a procedure and calling the targeted API\Webservice in the procedure.
For this we are planning to use the util http inbuilt package.
1)Can we perform the activities like invoking and posting the input to the hosted API and capture the Response from the API using the http util inbuilt package?
2)Do we need to take care at Firewall front of the Test Server?
3)Do we need to concentrate on Port enabling for capturing the response received from the Payment Gateway API.
Request you all to provide the clarification in detail.
Thanks in Advance.user8830414 wrote:
1)Can we perform the activities like invoking and posting the input to the hosted API and capture the Response from the API using the http util inbuilt package? If the hosted API supports http or https, then yes. The UTL_HTTP package provides a complete client (web browser) interface for communicating with a web server.
I have posted a basic webbrowser procedure in [this thread|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=1925304#1925297] some time ago. It uses a pipeline table in order to better support testing (easy to output additional data using pipe row() calls). This should provide you with a basic understanding of how to use UTL_HTTP for standard access, using proxies, and using https.
2)Do we need to take care at Firewall front of the Test Server?Yes - if that firewalls blocks access from your test server to the hosted IP. However, if there is a web proxy server that does have access, the test server can make its http/https calls via the proxy server. Oracle's UTL_HTTP allows you to define and use proxy servers for access.
3)Do we need to concentrate on Port enabling for capturing the response received from the Payment Gateway API.Not sure what you imply by "+port enabling+". According to the IANA list of well known ports, port 80 is for http and port 443 for https.
If you are firewalled, then one or both of these ports need to be opened, single direction, for the tcp protocol. -
How to integrate and configure SMS API CC&B
Hi All,
Can you just guide me how to integrate and configure SMS API in CC&B.as per my knowledge sending email from ccb is possible but i was not able to find how SMS application can be implemented in CC&B.it very vital in my project to send SMS alert from CC&B to end users and also let me know can we customise and configure third party vendor SMS API in CC&B which was developed in various technologies or we have to develop our own SMS API for application
Thanks,
Srinivas VaradarajanThere is no built in application for SMS in CCB you need a third party application.
One of our partner company has a readymade add on module with complete GUI interface for CCB, this application allows you to define rules and conditions using standard select statements to filter receipent for SMS. This application can work with any service provider all you need is a SMS gateway. If you do not have a SMS gateway the same can be provided in certain countries. -
How to implement a SMS and WAP Gateway ?
Folks Hi !!
I'm a newbie at wireless Java, but I am interested to know how can I implement a gateway application/server that works both as an SMS and WAP gateway.
I've read some documents on Kannel(open source WAP gateway), but I am interested to know if there are any resources available that would be of help to implement one in Java (API for SMS, WAP etc).
The second question I have is:
Where do CIMD2, SMPP, UCP etc. come into Messaging picture ? Do they complement WAP for sending/receving SMS ?(pls excuse me, if I sound weird, I am trying to make sense of things :p )
I appreciate any help or suggestions to resources.
Thanks a ton in advance !!
Cheers :)An SMS Gateway needs to communicate with the SMSC using some way or another. You have many options:
1- Connect a simple GSM phone to the serial port of your pc and use it to send and receive messages.
2- A GSM modem (like Nokia Premicell, Siemens M20..)
3- Connect directly to the SMSC.
If you choose the third option, then there must be a specific protocol to use to talk to the SMSC. Your SMSC might support one or more of these protocols:
1- SMPP (The good java api for this protocol is available http://opensmpp.logica.com)
2- UCP (see: http://www.cmg.com)
3- CIMD2 (see: http://www.nokia.com)

Having a problem using Jabber and a Yahoo gateway. I set up an account (using Psi) and that was successful. I can chat with others using Psi just fine. But when I set up iChat to do this it recognizes my account, logs me in but when I open a chat with a Yahoo buddy I see them typing but the message never appears. My Yahoo Messenger and Psi work just fine but iChat is a no go I've tried creating a new Jabber account (with Psi) same results. Tried it on 2 different computers - iBook G4 and 933 mhz QuickSilver G4. Same results. Anyone have any ideas?
Strange.
I'm still having the same problem with the server you recommended. I'm wondering if there is something that I'm not configuring correctly in Psi or iChat.
Just to reiterate the issue:
I can sign up for a Jabber account,
configure it using Psi (loading the yahoo and msn gateways),
Log out of Psi,
Register the Jabber account in ichat and log in,
What works:
The contacts appear in my iChat Jabber list,
Those that are online appear online
I can send a message out to the contact
What doesn't work:
Receiving incoming chats from buddies
Receiving replies to chats that I've initiated
Actions I've taken so far:
Enabled port 5222 and 5223 on UDP and TCP
I've tried with SSL activated and deactivated
Any other ideas or recommendations for servers that are working?
Thanks,

Ora-12154 problem with database link and transparent gateway
Hello,
I’m trying to make a communication between oracle and SQL server 2005.
I use oracle 10g E.E Release 10.2.0.3.0 and the transparent gateway for SQL server 10201_gatway_win32.zip.
Install:
The oracle database is installed into a server named ss-serv. This server has two partition disk C and E. Oracle database is installed in E and the gateway in C. There is already a database (instance) running in the oracle home (in E).
I configured the gateway as described into: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B...3/conf_sql.htm.
In sql server 2005, there is a database running named ClientTricks.
I created a user named Avogadro with a login.
In the partition C where the gateway is installed, the file inittg4msql.ora is like this:
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO= ss-serv. ClientTricks
The file sqlnet.ora where the gateway is installed is configured like this:
SQLNET.AUTHENTIFICATION_SERVICES=(NTS)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH = (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)
I configured the listener that is in the C partition where the gateway is installed, and the tnsnames that is in the oracle database in E partition disk like this:
Listener :
LISTENER=
(ADDRESS=
(PROTOCOL=TCP)
(HOST=ss-serv)
(PORT=1521))
SID_LIST_LISTENER=
(SID_LIST=
(SID_DESC=
(SID_NAME=tg4msql)
(ORACLE_HOME=C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\tg_1)
(PROGRAM=tg4msql)
tnsnames:
mytg4msql=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=
(PROTOCOL=TCP)
(HOST=ss-serv)
(PORT=1521)
(CONNECT_DATA=
(SID=tg4msql))
(HS=OK))
After edited the listener, I stop and start the listener for the transparent gateway from administrative tools in the services.
Then, connected in oracle (in a database named fakeclient) I created a database link in sqlplus. The the dblink were created, but when I tried to querry some data from ClientTricks by executing the following instructions:
select * from s_client@dblink
i got this fatal and terrible error :
ora-12154 TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
I verified all my procedure and stapes, all seems to be good. I did a tnsping of mytg4msql
I got this error in the command prompt:TNS-03505 fail to resolve name
Could someone help me ?
Sorry for my English ,I’m French
best regardsHi Mkirtley,
i clarify you what i've done:
Pease have a look in the link in my first post. Then, i said that in oracle database home the listener is in port 1521
here is this listener:
SID_LIST_LISTENER=
(SID_LIST=
(SID_DESC=
(SID_NAME=PLSExtproc)
(ORACLE_HOME=E:\oracle\production\10.2.0\db_1)
(PROGRAM=extproc)
LISTENER=
(DESCRIPTION_LIST=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS= (PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=ss-serv)(PORT=1521))
(ADDRESS= (PROTOCOL=IPC)(KEY=EXTPROC0))
Here is the tnsnames.ora in oracle database home:
N.B in this ora file, there's already some descriptions for the database running, so i just add these lines under the description in ora file. Here is:
Jest=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS_LIST=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=ss-serv)(PORT=2000))
(CONNECT_DATA=
(SID=tg4msql)
(HS=OK)
for the listener of the gateway (installed in C partition):
SID_LIST_LISTENER=
(SID_LIST=
(SID_DESC=
(SID_NAME=tg4msql)
(ORACLE_HOME=C:\oracle\production\10.2.0\tg_1)
(PROGRAM=tg4msql)
LISTENER=
(DESCRIPTION_LIST=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS= (PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=ss-serv)(PORT=2000))
(ADDRESS= (PROTOCOL=IPC)(KEY=EXTPROC1))
here are all i did.

Deprecated and internal proprietary API in Java
Hi, all
I'm facing a problem right now that our product is near to the ending of the life cycle and won't t have big release from 2013. Hence we are thinking that the JRE/JDK in the product should be stable enough and will not have significant change in the future. After a checking of the latest load build of the product with JDK1.7.0_09, we found that we did have many warnings regarding to the Deprecated API and internal proprietary API like ORB, ORBSocketFactory, IIOPProfileTemplate etc.
So, I'm doubting...should I find the way to replace those Deprecated and internal proprietary APIs? Is it really necessary? Where can I find APIs to replace them? Any documents?
I have been frustrated with the doubt for long time, hopefully anyone can help me.
Thanks in advanced.anyone can shed me the lights?

How to automate checking status of Replication agent and Replication queue in CQ5
As part of monitoring the status of replication agents and replication queue, is it possible to automate the checking process?
We can check them from GUI, but from a monitoring perspective we are loking for a mechanism where the status can be checked continuously and we are alerted whenever there is some issue.
1. Check status of replication agent (enabled/disabled)
2. Check status of replication queue (if the queue is blocked)
Thanks in advance
nkraoyou can pull the queue from the page the same way the UI gets the list
in the table:
curl -u admin:admin
"http://localhost:4502/etc/replication/agents.author/publish/jcr:content.queue.json?agent=p ublish"
and then use a shell library like ticktick.sh to parse the json
response. A sample of how to get the bundles loaded and installed from
CQ using the ticktick library can be found here

Datapump exp and imp using API method
Good Day All,
I want to know what is the best way of error handling of datapump export and Import using API. I need to implement in my current project as there lot of limitations and the only way to see the process worked is writing the code with error handling method using exceptions. I have seen some examples on the web but if there are practicle examples or good links with examples that will work sure way, I would like to know and explore. I have never used API method so I am not sure of it.
Thanks a lot for your time.
Maggie.I wrote the procedure with error handling but it does not out put any information of the statuses while kicking off the expdp process. I have put dbms_output.put_line as per oracle docs example but it doesnt display any messages, just kicks off and created dumpfiles. As a happy path its ok but I need to track if something goes wrong. I even stated set serveroutput on sqlplus. It doesnt even display if job started. Please help me where I made a mistake to display the status . Do I need to modify or add anything. Help!!

About Oracle Heterogeneous Services and Oracle Gateway
Hi All,
I am very new at this topic, I want to know:
1)Oracle Heterogeneous Services and Oracle Gateway same or not?Need license or not?
2)If want Creating Database Link from Oracle 11g to Sybase AS 15.5 Using Oracle Heterogeneous Services what drivers should I install from my pc(windows 7) and from my server(Linux red hat 5)?please give me link for this
3)Is there any link Step by step to configure odbc until creating dblink?
4)what more convenient, connect sybase from Oracle Heterogeneous Services or Oracle Gateway?
Thank you so much for your help
Regards
JOEJoe,
let copy/paste your questions and comment inline:
1)Oracle Heterogeneous Services and Oracle Gateway same or not?Need license or not?
Let me first clarify one thing, heterogeneous services is the generic mechanism in the Oracle database used by all gateways. The product you are talking about is the Database Gateway for ODBC or the Database Gateway for Sybase.
The Database Gateway for ODBC is available for Linux and Windows. It is the free product which does not require an Oracle license. The license is included in your database license. It is a generic gateway which allows you to connect with any suitable 3rd party ODBC driver to a matching foreign database. As it is a generic connectivity which aloows you to connect to real databases but also to MS Excel or even Text files as long as you have a suitable ODBC driver, its capability is very limited.
The more powerful gateway is the Database Gateway for Sybase. It covers the same functionality as DG4ODBC but it allows you also to work with distributed transactions, it allows you to call remote Sybase stored procedures etc. This gateway is design for Sybase ASE connections, so it is also able to map certain Oracle functions to Sybase equivalents. This Database Gateway for Sybase is NOT for free, it requires an additional license.
2)If want Creating Database Link from Oracle 11g to Sybase AS 15.5 Using Oracle Heterogeneous Services what drivers should I install from my pc(windows 7) and from my server(Linux red hat 5)?please give me link for this
That depends on your preferences. Both gateways are available for Linux and for Windows. When using DG4ODBC you only need to pay attention that you get a suitable 3rd party ODBC driver for this platform with the matching word size (64bit for 64bit DG4ODBC and 32bit ODBC driver for installations of DG4ODBC on 32bit platforms).
The latest software release is currently 11.2.0.3 and it can be downloaded (and installed from scratch) from "My Oracle Support". Just open the Patches & Updates section, look for Patch 10404530: 11.2.0.3.0 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER and make sure to choose the platform you want to use. Then check out the readme as it lists which of these download CD's contains the gateway software.
BTW, the CD contains DG4ODBC and DG4SYBS and it is up to you to decide during the installation which product you want to use.
3)Is there any link Step by step to configure odbc until creating dblink?
The ODBC driver installation differs from vendor to vendor and platform to platform - so we don't have a specific note how to configure the ODBC driver. This kind of question is better handled by the ODBC driver vendor.
Regarding the set up of DG4ODBC on Windows you find suitable information in the knowledge base on My Oracle Support. Just look for:
How to Configure DG4ODBC (Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC) on Windows 32bit to Connect to Non-Oracle Databases Post Install [Document 466225.1]
and for DG4SYBS:
How to Configure DG4SYBS (Oracle Database Gateway for Sybase) on 64bit Unix (Linux, AIX, HP-UX Itanium and Solaris) Post Install [Document 437696.1]
How to Setup DG4SYBS (Database Gateway for Sybase) on a 64bit Windows [Document 1319852.1]
4)what more convenient, connect sybase from Oracle Heterogeneous Services or Oracle Gateway?
It really depends on your needs. DG4SYBS is surly easier to install as this gateway comes with everything you need and you do not have to find a suitable ODBC driver nor get the ODBC driver working. It is also more powerful as you can for example use triggers that replicate data changes in an Oracle database to the Sybase database within the same transaction. When you want to call Sybase stored procedures you can also do that with DG4SYBS. So it really depends on your needs.
