Replication SUN == openLDAP

Hi !
I would like to replicate the data of my sun directory server to an openLDAP directory server.
Is it possible to configure the slapd process of the sun directory server to use the slurpd process, which replicates data
Does anyone have a solution please ?
Thanks

You can have OpenLDAP server pushing its changes to Sun Directory Server, but you cannot have replication between OpenLDAP and Sun Directory Server.
Some external products may allow you to do synchronization of both directory servers, but I would not really recommend this path as there are many security issues associated with the fact that access controls differ between the products (as there is no standard access control model for LDAP :-( )

  • Unique identifier in multi-master replication scenario.

    Hi,
I am trying to workout whether or not to use nsuniqueid as the unique identifier to pull data out of multi-master replication sun one directory server environment. From another forum I noticed that nsuniqueid can change if the tree structure changes. Is there any unique identifier that I can use which will guarantee that in every master server this unique identifier field will have the same value for the same object? I know that this is not the case for entryid values, as they are assigned different values in different master server.
    Thank you in advance,
    Johan

Well, depending on your DIT, the usual thing to do is to use some collection of naming attributes, typically the RDN. If all else fails each DN will certainly identify each entry. You should avoid using nsuniqueid for anything in your application logic, though it is certainly unique and identical across the topology for each entry. What nsuniqueid allows you to do that other attributes don't is to differentiate two entries that are otherwise identical, but which have been added at different times. So, for instance, if you added an entry, deleted it, then readded it, the nsuniqueids would be different.
Just make sure you don't do anything silly like putting nsuniqueid in an LDIF template. Always let the server create the nsuniqueid. And when you create a replica initialization LDIF, don't change the nsuniqueids in it.

  • OAM with OID Architecture

    Hi All,
Can anybody help me with the deployment architecture for OAM along with OID for an SSO solution. I could not find such a asset in any of the datasheets/documentation od Oracle (typical deployments).

I can understand the confusion. It's a complex product with a lot of documentation. And it has undergone several name changes in its history. In reality, it's two products in one:
OAM - Access - This is the security half of the product that performs authentication and authorization, controls access to web applications, and provides web sso. It consists of an Access Server, Policy Manager, and security agents called webgates or access gates. Webgates are pre-built security agents that Oracle ships with the product. They provide webgates for many lead web and application servers. Access gates are basically custom webgates, built and deployed using the Access SDK.
    See details here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15217_01/doc.1014/e12494/access.htm#BEIEJFFJ
OAM - Identity - Identity system is the user mgmt half of the product, providing features like self-registration, user self-services, delegated administration, and approval workflow. It consists of an Identity server and a webpass, which is the presentation layer to get into the Identity server. You install a webpass on a web server so users and administrators can access the Identity system.
    See details here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15217_01/doc.1014/e12494/identity.htm#CHDCCEDA
OAM does not require a Java application server to operate because it is not a Java application. What it does require is a web server and an LDAP directory server. The LDAP directory stores all your user data as well all the security policies, configurations, and workflows.
Take a look at the Oracle-By-Example training series for OVD and OAM:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/fusion_middleware/im1014/ovd-oam/index.html
It can help you get started with how to install the products. Note that OVD (Oracle's virtual LDAP directory) is not required for OAM, but is used in this example. You need a physical LDAP repository like OID, Sun, OpenLDAP, Novell eDirectory, or Microsoft AD.

DISCLAIMER: this procedure is neither somewhere documented, nor officially supported, that's why you must consider all I'll write afterwards just as pure speculation.
SUPPOSE that you can afford to cleanly shut down all the servers in the topology at the same time, after backing up each of the dse.ldif configuration files, you could change the port references in the dse.ldif files for:
    1. nsslapd-port
    2. nsslapd-referral(s)
    3. for each replication agreement:
    3.1 DN
    3.2 CN
    3.3 nsDS5ReplicaPort
    3.4 nsds50ruv(s)
f you intend to change also the admin/config DS instance, before restarting the admin server/console, remember to update the attribute nsslapd-pluginarg0 under dn: cn=Pass Through Authentication,cn=plugins,cn=config in the dse.ldif files of the instances and also refer to the docs:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19850-01/816-6704-10/admin_config.html
    before restarting the instances.

    4. Enabling Session Replication
Now that we deployed our web application, we need to enable the session replication feature in the configuration. This will start the session replication services in each instance. We can do this using the CLI administration:
    wadm> set-session-replication-prop --config=mycluster enabled=true
    CLI201 Command 'set-session-replication-prop' ran successfully
    wadm> deploy-config mycluster
    CLI201 Command 'deploy-config' ran successfully

  • Why doesn't Sun ONE Web Proxy Server support full replication?

Sun believes caching on-demand is a much more appropriate model for either the World Wide Web or an intranet. Common indexes should be distributed, but data can (and should) be stored wherever is most appropriate on the network. If Proxy Servers are deployed, there will be a 50 percent to 75 percent chance that the document will be cached locally and no chance of getting stale data.
Sun ONE Web Proxy Server uses sophisticated statistical analysis to store the documents most likely to be needed. It also manages document expiry and version control, and by default checks the home server every time a document is requested. Full replication like that performed by other softwares presumes that each document needs to be fully replicated on every server. (Imagine doing that on the Web!) This model limits the scalability of the infrastructure, and requires many more servers, more hardware, and more management complexity. More importantly, it increases the likelihood of getting stale data. A document checked in at one location may take a day or more to be fully replicated around the world.

If you have a support contract, get in touch with a support engineer. We've run into a bug related to following referrals in the "off-the-shelf" version of the proxy server. I believe there is a hotfix that solves the issue.

  • DS6.3 replication and sun self signed certificate

    1. I am creating a replication agreement using the dscc and am prompted to choose:
Authenticate using simple authentication and use a non-secure connection
Authenticate using simple authentication and use a secure connection
Authenticate using a certificate and use a secure connection
I would like to choose the second option "Authenticate using simple authentication and use a secure connection" since I am replicating to another company division on another subnet in another building.
Does this option take into account the installed certificates? Can I do this with a sun self signed certificate that I got by default at install? And if so can I renew it if it is expired?
In my deployments I have used my own self signed certs and store bought certs. Since I know the other server has the sun cert, I was thinking I could just use that, and not do any root cert exchanges.

Yes, you can. By default the certs that come when instance is created expire in 90 days and you can renew the cert easily using certutil. But you have to change the cert's trust properties so it can be used as a client as well.
It's best you use CA signed certificates that last for longer, that way you can use it with normal apps as well. If this does not help, please post again.

  • Migrating data from Sun ONE directory server into openLDAP

    Hi,
I was to migrate the data from Sun ONE directory server into openldap. Has anybody done this or know about this. Can you please share the steps that needs to be done.
NOTE: I have exported the data into LDIF file but when I run with ldapadd into the open ldap
    ldap_add: Invalid syntax (21)
additional info: objectClass: value #1 invalid per syntax
Are there specific schemas that i need. Where can I find them?
    Thanks

Why would you want to migrate data into an OpenLDAP server ?Good Question, let me explain you my problem with Sun DS.
No Question DS is the better product (even Red Hat realized this).
Problem: DS is not a base Solaris 10 OS component, for patch support
you need some additional plan, now sun marketing nightmare comes ;o)
Every year service plans are changed (want a SJES or a DS or a DSEE ?)
so use solaris with OpenLDAP, or linus with NSDS.
Sun please give us a Solaris Core Component called LDAP Server (no need for trillions of entries).

  • Is Sun Storage 7000 Storage replication adapter compatible with 2540 series

We are evaluating VMWare Site Recovery Manager 4.0. Is Sun Storage 7000 Storage replication adapter compatible with 2540 Sun Storage series?

I would say the short answer would be no. The 2540 is a LSI based device, the SRM adapter for that is written by LSI. The 7000
series array is based on OpenSolaris and ZFS, quite a different beast.

  • Replication from Sun directory to CA directory

    Hello there,
Does Sun support replication to CA directory?
    thanks

To be a bit more specific on this, DSEE includes synchronization with AD - Identity Synchronization for Windows -, the natural solution to synchronize with other repositories is the Sun Identity Manager product. We also have some specific tools that can be involved through Professional Services engagement to accomplish that task.

    More configuration details:
    hosts OS - Solaris 9
Supplier - Sun DS 5.1 Service Pack 4
Consumer - Sun DS 5.1 Service Pack 4, Sun DS 5.2_Patch_4
    How it happens:
Consumer was already configured and used for other data located in separate database and suffix. Replication manager, new suffix and database for replica, were created on consumer. Replication agreement was created on supplier with "Always keep in sync" set.
Immediately after agreement was confirmed attempt to schema update was happened with warning mentioned above.
Yes, it is just warning, but it can result in some problems.
Changes in cn=schema are not stored in 99user.ldif on consumer. Consumer DS keeps updated changes in memory and used them, if needed. But if I decide to disable replication and restart the DS, DS reads user defined schema definition from 99user.ldif and there are no updated schema entries obtained earlier from supplier, but replicated data are available.
My question and cry for help:
What can cause the schema update failed and how to eliminate it?
Or am I trying to do something impossible?
I already got suggestions like "Forget about DS 5.1", "Supplier 5.1 and consumer 5.2? DO NOT DO THAT!"
Note: The same happened for DS 5.1 consumer.
I will appreciate any sort of reaction.
    Thanks

This is a conflict in the OID or Name in either an object class or attribute.
No attribute must have an identical OID or name as another defined attribute
(both OID and name identical between 2 definitions means same definition)
The error log on the Consumer should have the OID or the name of the schema element that is already defined.
Schema replication between 5.2 and 5.1 servers is explained in the Administration Guide of Directory Server 5.2 and may require some settings (I don't recall which way, but it's covered in the documentation).

  • Is Sun DS 5.2 compatible with OUD 11gR2 PS1 Replication Gateway?

    Hi
Is it possible to synchronise a Sun DS 5.2 master with OUD 11gR2 PS1 using an OUD replication gateway?
If not, is it possible to set up replication between Sun DS 5.2 and ODSEE 11gR2, and then synchronise ODSEE 11gR2 with OUD via the OUD replication gateway?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The replication gateway must communicate with one ODSEE 11gR2 master. However the rest of the topology does not need to be upgraded to 11g.
Many customers deploy the replication gateway and the ODSEE11g instance on the same box; The ODSEE11g can be seen as a companion of the replication gateway.
Note that some specific limitations apply when DSEE5.2 is in the picture: Some Password policy related state, e.g. nb of failed authentication are not fully replicated between DSEE 5.2 and OUD.

  • How can I import Openldap schema into sun one directory server?

    Hello All
I have a schema which was written for openldap, and I want to import this schema into sun directory server. I found that some attribute syntaxes, like "NumericString", are not exist in sun directory server and some attribute definitions are also different. For example, the "internationaliSDNNumber" in sun directory is defined in "IA5String" syntax, but it is "NumericString" in openldap. Is there any effect on querying data from two different ldap server? How can I solve this problem?
    Thank you!

GaryThanks! But after I use some of scripts in that page, I got
    "Unknown attribute syntax OID "1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.36"
It seems those scripts only transform schema file format, not the gap between different type(attribute syntax). Is it possible to import or add new type(attribute syntax) in sun one directory server?
    Thanks.

  • 6140 Replication Problem in Sun Cluster

    Hi,
I am not able to mount a replicate volume from cluster system (primary site) to non-cluster system (DR site). Replication was done by 6140 storage. In primary site the volume was configured in a system with metaset under Solaris Cluster 3.2. and in DR site it was mapped in a non-cluster system after suspending the replication.
I even tried to mount the volume in DR site (non-cluster system) by creating a metaset and putting the volume under this and mount it from there. But this action also not working.
Following are the log of the errors:
    drserver # mount -F ufs /dev/dsk/c3t600A0B80004832A600002D554B74AC56d0s0 /mnt/
mount: /dev/dsk/c3t600A0B80004832A600002D554B74AC56d0s0 is not this fstype

    Unknown_fstyp (no matches)
    drserver #
I will be grateful if you have any workaround for this. Please note that, the replication from the non-cluster system is working fine. Only from the cluster system it is not working and showing above errors.

I am not sure how you can run Solaris 10 Update 8, since to my knowledge that is not released.
What is available is Solaris 10 05/09, which would be Update 7.
You are not describing what exact problem you have (like specific error messages you see), or what exactly you did to end up in the situation you have.
I would recommend to open a support case to get a more structured analysis of your problem.
    Regards
    Thorsten
