REPLY Email address in triplicate! Why?

On my Intel Macbook (but, I think, not on the Intel iMac in my office) I have two or three email correspondents to whom, when I hit REPLY to respond to one of their messages, their reply address appears in the To: window in triplicate. In order to not send 3 messages back to them, I have to delete two of the addresses or, at least, it appears that I do.
This only happens with a few correspondents. I think they all use MS Outlook or Outlook Express. For most of the people I reply to, a REPLY email gets addressed to only one address, even though they are mostly also using a Microsoft email client.
Any idea why this is happening and how to stop it?

David,
I receive very few messages with any Reply-To header, and then only if also seen in the Default Headers. This includes messages received from Thunderbird, and is the case whether viewed with Long Header or Raw Source displays. It would seem that very few people sending to me intend a reply to other than the address listed in the From Header.
In Raw Source, the first header listed is normally (if not always) the Return-Path Header.
According to RFC 2822 at the link below, the Reply-To field is optional:
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2822.html
In this same source, Return-Path seems to be a required part of the trace fields. However, Return-Path will contain whatever is in the email client preferences, as the address, even if that address is "spoofed". It would seem to be an accurate reporter of what is in the address entry of an account setup.

  • How to Control Invite Reply Email Address

After sending an iCal invitation to a friend, a reply is sent by my friend's Mac. For some reason the reply goes to my Work email address even though Apple Mail shows the email came from my .Mac email (non Work). I would expect the invitation reply to go to the email address it said it came from.
I am not sure if this is my friends iCal doing this, or mine..
Is there any way to control the email address where a reply goes to? Didn't see a thing in iCal preferences.

    I just found out myself:
The problem rests on the invitors side. The primary e-mail address of their 'me' address card in the Address Book is the email address which iCal will ask attendees to reply to, careles of the e-mail address you use to send the invitation with. Simply changing the 'me' card in the addressbook resolves this problem.
So, no bug, but maybe worth mentioning for the next gen iCal. Let people set the e-mail address in the iCal prefs, instead of to much mingling with these three apps (Mail, AB and iCal)...
Hope this helps you(r friend) a bit.
    Cheers

  • TS3276 default reply email address

I am running OSX Lion.  I am changing my email account and want to know if there is a way to set my MacMail so that ALL emails are replied to from the NEW account and not the account that they were sent to.  I have changed my Preferences for "Send new messages from" to the new account but when an email comes to me from the old account and I select "Reply" MacMail wants to send the reply from the old account and I have to manually change the account to the new account.  Is there some way to set the default REPLY TO account to the new account?  Thanks.

Depending on the mail provider, some will change the from address to the server email address being sent through. I know GMail is like that. Try with one of the other addresses and change the smtp server to the new account's server and check the box to use only that server with that account.

  • How to designate reply email address

how to designate that a reply to an email is to be sent from the SAME email address from which it is received?

This isn't a problem I'm familiar with. The only cause I can think of is that you might be using a .Mac alias or an email address that isn't separately set up in Mail as an account. That is, if you receive email to an address that then forwards to another address, this could occur. To my knowledge, Mail can only use a return address that is set up as an account within Mail.
If that's not it, let us know, and hopefully others here will have an idea of what could be causing this.

  • How do i set up my reply email address

i had a blackberry and used a work email account. it would come to my blackberry and when i replied it used my work email address. how do i set this up on the iphone 4s

Thanks! -  But since I'm having issues with Outlook and my iPhone doesn't allow me to sync "Mail" and "Notes" but allows everything else with iCloud .... does that matter?  i.e. I can receive email through Outlook, but I can't send mail out?

  • Reply Email Address

I am running Exchange 2010 with various versions of Outlook and I would like to change the behaviour of the reply address.  I accept multiple domains into my org and I would like to see the reply address to be the same as the original recipient address.
So, if I receive an email at [email protected], I would like the reply to have [email protected] as the reply address.  But, if I receive an email on [email protected], I would like the reply address to be [email protected]
Is this possible?  I know that Exchange only identifies one default reply address and normally, that is the one used, but I would like to change that if I can.  I looked at address rewriting but that seems to do the opposite of what I want - it
will change multiple address to one address or it will use a different default address ofr specific individuals.  I want multiple reply (primary) addresses for a single individual.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Agree with Willard. Exchange server always uses the primary SMTP address as the reply address, and one mailbox has one primary SMTP address. What's more, if you have multiple email addresses, incoming messages can't indicate which address is used actually,
it only displays the primary SMTP address in the To field. So I am afraid that there is no other way to achieve your goal except for separating mailboxes.
Hope my clarification can be helpful to you.

  • Cannot access 2 of 3 email address lists. Why?

This just occurred. The same address list comes up with all 3 email addresses I have . Even when I exit & turn off my computer & go back to email I still cannot get to my 2 other address lists. For example: When in email 1, or 2, , email 3's address is shown. I email 3 it is okay. Also, I have to use tools to get the address list and it fills the screen - so I cannot click to get the address onto my email address line because my email is covered by the address screen. Frustrating.
Previously I could go to "contacts" which is now gone, and click. The address list would come up & I could drag the address to my email. Now I cannot do that.
So I cannot access 2 of 3 email address lists, cannot click on an address to put on my email to send. So how do I fix this.? I have 100's of email addresses I access. I am NOT a computer wiz so please help and if you can, please make it simple as you can!
    Thanks, Gail

are you talking about the contacts sidebar that toggles on and off with the F9 key?

  • My contacts are only showing as email address contacts. Why? And how do I change  it?

Can anyone tell me why all of a sudden ny contacts are only email contacts and all my telephone numbers etc have disappeared?

Do you sync Exchange Contacts such as Google or Yahoo contacts?
Check your groups at Contacts app in the up left corner.

  • HT1918 Why can't I use my icloud email address for my iTunes account

Tired of the cox communications inability to imap emails, going to dump it completely want to use the icloud email address I have, why can't I change my apple id to that email address

"Well, then I want to be able to merge that one and the one my purchases are on..."
This is exactly what I want to do but don't think I can:
    I noticed the following :
If you attempt to create an Apple ID which is the same as your @icloud email address from the online facility, it does not allow you (can't use an Apple associated email address as your Apple ID). However - if you start a fresh device - such as a new iPhone, iPad (must be mobile it seems), and then create an iCloud account and Apple ID from the prompts when setting up the mobile device, it IS possible to have your Apple ID and @iCloud email address as the same. I know because I just did it!
Unfortunately for me, the result I got above is not for one of my own ID's but a friends, and I would VERY much like to do the same - my current Apple ID is a completely different email address from my iCloud account. Trying to get them the same in my situation is a major bother - I think that if I wipe a device (such as an iPhone5 that is mine) and try to setup as I did my friend's device, then I will get a conflict because the iCloud email I have ALREADY exists. This is my worry and I will not attempt this until I get the new iPad 4 soon to test this.
There is an inconsistency here between the two methods of creating Apple ID's and iCloud accounts.
Overall in my opinion, the Apple ID system as currently available from Apple is not designed very well, and should be addressed.
    Best wishes -

  • How to set my "reply to" email address to an email forwarded address

I own my own url, which is my last name, and I want the emails I send from mail to actually look like they came from "[email protected]" and not from the cryptic email name that my dsl provider assigned to me. By the way, "[email protected]" email addresses actually is set up to forward emails replied to it back to my cryptic email address (that is my real dsl email address).
I almost lost myself there, but my basic question is how do I tell "Mail" to send out a different reply email address when I send someone an email.

Does your ISP/DSL provider allow customers to enter a different email address to be shown as the sending address for an email account provided by the ISP?
If so, enter [email protected] in the email address field under the Account Information tab for your DSL account preferences.
This will appear as the sending email address for the account.
If your ISP restricts their customers from doing this (some do since spammers don't provide a valid sending or reply to address with their bulk spam mailings), you can include a Reply To address field for the message header but the reply to email address must be entered manually for each sent message.

  • Can I move my account from one email address to another?

If I have used an @aol.com email address for my iTunes account for years, can I switch that to a @gmail account, and have all the purchases and account info link with my new email address?  Or do I have to sign up for a new account with my new email address?

"If I have used an @aol.com email address for my iTunes account for years, can I switch that to a @gmail account, and have all the purchases and account info link with my new email address? "
    No.
Why start a new account at all?
Just change the e-mail address associated with your current account.

  • I changed my rescue email to change my security questionsi but when i go to send the email to change my security questions, it says to send security info email to the email address i previously had as my primary email address

I want to change the password for my itunes account but I don't remember my security questions. I changed my primary address to my new email and changed my rescue email address to another new email address. When I go to change my security questions it says Send reset security info email to j•••••@y7mail.comwhich is my old email address. I don't know the password to this email address that's why I changed the rescue email to a new one. But on the name, ID and email address page it has both updated emails on there

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

I can't really tell exactly what is happening for you... just too little information.
    let me suggest:
Quoted from  Apple's "How to write a good question"
To help other members answer your question, give as many details as you can.
Include your product name and specs such as processor speed, memory, and storage capacity. Please do not include your Serial Number, IMEI, MEID, or other personal information.
Provide the version numbers of your operating system and relevant applications, for example "iOS 6.0.3" or "iPhoto 9.1.2".
Describe the problem, and include any details about what seems to cause it.
List any troubleshooting steps you've already tried, or temporary fixes you've discovered.

There are many (maybe too many) paths to AppleID management, so more info about where you go and how you get there will help us help you.

  • Address field inserts my own email address from mail

    Hello,
Having a couple of issues with Mail and Address Book applications.
    1. When I am in the email application and want add a mailing address from the email to my existing contacts in Address Book, it successfully adds the physical address BUT it also always adds my personal email address in the email address field. WHy?
    2. In the same situation, mail does not always highlight the entire mailing address, cutting off the street address. Are physical addresses font sensitive or format sensitive? For example, the email from friend goes like this:
    My address
    XXX Main Street Unit 1
    Sunnyvale, CA XXXX
Looks like mail is confused with the "my address" and only allows the City, State, and zip to be added. I would think that mail would be much more smarter than this. If so, is there a workaround?
    Thanks!

Here are ways to add contact information:
In an address field of a message you’re sending, click the arrow in a Smart Address (an email address that appears within a blue field) and choose “Add to Address Book” from the pop-up menu.
In a message you’ve received, move the pointer over a phone number, email address, or street address anywhere in the text. Mail detects the information and outlines it as a field with a pop-up menu. Click the arrow and choose an option from the pop-up menu. For example, you can add the information to an existing contact or create a new contact. If you’re connected to the Internet, you can map an address.
In a message you’ve received, click the arrow in a Smart Address and choose “Add to Address Book” from the pop-up menu. Or select a message in the message window and choose Message > “Add Sender to Address Book.”
Choose Window > Previous Recipients. In the list, select an address and then click “Add to Address Book.” Addresses that are already in your address book have a card icon next to the name in the list.
To select addresses that are next to each other (contiguous) in the list, hold down Shift as you click the first and last addresses you want to add; to select addresses that are not next to each other in the list, hold down Command as you click each address.
