Reply from same account...

My boss recently asked me if it's possible to reply from the one account always regardless of where the original email came from.
For example, if he has accounts A, B and C set up in his mail, and receives an email in account B or C, is there a preference to always reply from account A?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Agreed -- this automatic FROM feature is very poorly planned for a FAMILY computer. Instead, Apple should have separate icons for each account, so when the icon is opened the inbox and outbox are tied to that account and that account only.
The current approach absolutely does NOT work for a family computer. This needs to be fixed.
And I'm glad there is a simple solution for the original poster. We need a solution for the opposite problem.

  • OS X Mail - Always reply from the account mail was receive by.

    I have three email accounts:  A, B, and C.
Suppose I get email addressed to account  A.
When I reply to that email, I obviously want to send the reply from the same account, namely A.
However Mail chooses to reply to mail sent to A  from account B, instead, causing great confusion to the sender, who is now communicating with two different accounts.  Is there any situation where replying from an account other than the account recieving account makes sense?
I'd like to configure Mail to always reply from the account from which the mail was received.  Obviously this is possible and I can't imaging it's not the default behavior but I can't seem to figure out how.
    Any help would appreciated,
    Faz

I do leave the messages in my inbox and have "Send from account of selected mailbox" selected but sometimes that doesn't happen...
I just looked at a message I replied with from a few days ago.  The original message was sent to account A and the signiture on the reply is from account A but the message was actually sent from account B. This makes no sense, and it seems to be random.
I must have misconfigure something, I'll dig through the account settings.

  • Multiple email accounts but they are all sending from same account.

Set up with multiple email accounts but they are all sending from same account. I have checked account preferences and under composing they are to come from account of selected mailbox but this is not happening! Suggestions?

They are all in the same folder and it says all images are there, but it is only showing 1 card's images at a time. Does anyone know how to fix this?
This is kind of confusing, on the one hand you say "it says all images are there" and then you directly contradict this by saying "it is only showing 1 card's images at a time".
Could you explain in a lot more detail what you see (and don't say "it", say exactly what part of Lightroom or what part of your operating system you are looking at), or show us a screen capture?

  • How do you use Find Friends from same account on multiple phones?

I have one itunes account with 3 iPhones.  When I send an invite from one phone to another persons email (in my family), it says I can't accept request from the same person.  Basically, it seems that all the phones are tied to one Find Friends itunes account.  Can you use this app in the same family with same accounts?

I have a similar problem. I hope that Apple will offer a solution. It would appear to be possible because you can choose to see one of your other devices by signing in at me.com using your Apple ID and will be able to choose any of your devices and track it on a map. I'm a little disappointed that this is an issue but will remain optimistic that someone at Apple will wee these posts and provide an update.

  • How to reply from Gmail account using Hotmail address in Mail app in iPhone iOS 6?

    Hello,
Since the iOS 6 upgrade on my 4 iPhone, the "imap.gmail.com" won't work.
I had my e-mail set up as "other" and would receive my Hotmail in Gmail using imap, so I could reply using my Hotmail address.
So I deleted everything and tried again but it still won't work.
In the mean time, I am using the Gmail App but can't use the Apple Mail app because it won't reply from my Hotmail address, and I do not want to have to choose my reply-to address; I didn't have to before.
I do not want to use my Gmail address for anything.
I want to always use my Hotmail address.
Praying for help! I want to be able to use my Mail app like before!
Also not sure if the Gmail app is killing my battery, or if the new iOS 6 is....
    Thanks so much.

I said I want to use my Hotmail ADDRESS only. Not the Hotmail e-mail.
I check my Hotmail in Gmail. I love how Gmail is set up.
    I've tried deleting and recreating.
In order to check my Hotmail in Gmail on the iPhone, and reply from my Hotmail address using Gmail, you have to set up your mail on the iPhone using "other" when adding an e-mail account.
Since the upgrade, it will no longer let me use the "imap" feature and based on my research, it seems like everyone is having this issue.
Yes, I can use the Gmail e-mail account, but when I reply it'll show my Gmail address and I'd like it to show my Hotmail address WITHOUT having to use a drop-down menu and switch the reply-to address.
    Hope that clarifies.

  • How to make Reply (all), to an email I sent, to be sent from same account as the original email?

I have a number of Email accounts configured, all of them as pop mail. And, they are all configured to use the same Inbox and Send folders, Thrashbin etc. They are all correctly configured with the appropriate Sender and Reply to-address.
My problem, has started occuring, I think, after I exchanged my default and some of my email accounts.
Sometimes I need to reuse a message that I have sent, to fill in some details, or whatever.
Typically I open an Email from the Sent folder, remove my own email from the distribution list, add some more text
and resend the message to the original recipients.
What I want, is for the new message to be sent from the same sender address as the original email.
But, since I changed my default account, the new email created by opening an email from the Sent folder
and clicking Reply or Reply all, now gets a different Sender and Reply to - address.
And this means I have to remember to edit the Sender address.
I seem to get this problem regardless of whether I do Forward, Reply or Reply all, to create a new Email from the old one I sent.
This is really a nuisance since I keep forgetting to do this, and it takes extra time and effort for something that used to be quick and easy.
How can I make Thunderbird include the correct Sender address, (the one that I sent the original email from) when doing this, without my having to change it manually each time?
The address Thunderbird chooses is not even my Default email address, but the first account that appears after the Default account in the list of accounts, at least that is what it seems like. I have tried to find a way to reorder the accounts, but I have not been able to find that.
Is there a way to reorder the accounts?
Would it help if I recreated the accounts so the one I use as default becomes the oldest one? But that, would help only for the default account, and the other accounts would still have the same problem, I assume?
I could live with this, since the default account is the default account for a reason.
Would it help, if I separated the different accounts, into different folders?
Or is there a setting to configure how Thunderbird does this, or even have it ask every time I create a new email from the Sent folder?
Each one of the accounts, is configured with the appropriate smtp server settings, (probably irrelevant for this problem).

Good suggestion. It gets rid of the "mailto:", but I have to remove the space after dragging the clip into the user name box. Interestingly, I can open the clip with TextWrangler, remove the space, and save it as a clip. However, the clip, as a clip, still has the space! When I open it again in TextWrangler, the space is gone, but still appears when I drag the clip or open it in the Finder. So not quite a cigar. But definitely useful.
So the question remains, where is a clip's data stored? Is it editable? If so, how? If not, why not?

  • How to use File History from same account on 2 PCs to same NAS

I recently upgraded from Win7 to Win8.1 and am unsuccessful in using File History as I'd like.  Perhaps it's a configuration issue, so I'll explain my goal, what I've done, and the problem:
I have a PC and laptop, both in the same HomeGroup and I use the Microsoft Account on both.  Heretofore I've used a 'backup program' (SyncBack Pro), to synch the Documents folder between the PC and laptop, and then backup the PC's Documents folder to
a folder on a NAS (Network Attached Storage).  That worked file.
Now, attempting to use File History, I setup up a NAS:\File History folder on the NAS and turned File History on both on the PC and laptop, pointing to the same NAS:\File History folder on the NAS.  (Actually, I didn't enable it on the laptop until
File History on the PC had completed its initial run.)  Within 1 or 2 days, the NAS was out of space but shouldn't have been.  When I use Windows Explorer to list contents of subfolders in Documents in the File History folder on the NAS, it shows
the same files and sizes as it shows on the folders on the PC.  But when I use Windows Explorer to get the Properties of those folders, it shows exactly 2 or 3 (differs by folder) times as many files, and 2 or 3 times the total space taken on the
PC.  There are many folders in the $OF folder.  I assumed (perhaps wrongly) that $OF would hold old files (e.g., deleted or superseded) but there probably aren't more than 4-5 files that changed over this time period.  All this is making
me think that perhaps when File History runs on, say the laptop, it actually replaces all files of the same names saved by File History running on the PC and vice versa.  Perhaps that's wrong, but it's the only way I can explain the explosion of the number
of files and space consumed by even multiples (2 or 3, at which point the NAS ran out of space).
So, given my goal -- making sure there is a shared backup of all Documents files on the NAS -- is there a way I can set up File History on both the PC and laptop so the same file is represented once in the NAS:\File History ?????
Finally, in case it's relevant, when I set up File History on the PC it asked me if I wanted to invite others in the HomeGroup to do so, but nothing resembling an 'invitation' ever appeared on the laptop.
Many thanks to anyone who can address this.

    Hello RASSRQ,
Do you mean that the file history in NAS need 2 or 3 times space as the file on PC?
Please explain a bit about the sentence ‘When I use Windows Explorer to list contents of subfolders in Documents in the File History folder on the NAS, it shows the same files and sizes as it shows on the folders on the PC.  But when I use Windows Explorer
to get the Properties of those folders, it shows exactly 2 or 3 (differs by folder) times as many files, and 2 or 3 times the total space taken on the PC.  There are many folders in the $OF folder. ’
I can’t understand: What is $OF folder? Could you please share us a screenshot about $OF folder if you willing to?
    What folders in $OF folder?
Based on my test, I follow the steps by referring to the following article and can’t find the similar issue.

  • Have multiple email a/cs' but apple mail sending all gmail emails from same account

I have 3 gmail accounts and 2 pop3 a/cs' ( that are piggy backed by the isp to web based/imap email servers) and using Apple Mail.
Emails are correctly received into the correct email address inbox.
However, when I send an email and despite whichever email address I select in the ' From ' box on the Compose page, the emails are always sent from the same email address. This issue only affects the 3 gmail accounts, the other 2 are working ok.
In Mail Prefs I have checked that the box " send new messages from " is marked " account of selected mailbox ".
If I use gmail ' direct ' ( not via apple mail ) emails are sent from the correct account as I obviously have to sign into that particular account.
It's as if I have a default email account from which all emails are sent but the settings seem to be to the contrary.
Appreciative for any help and guidance.

Solved issue by removing the gmail accounts and then reinstating them but giving the name assigned to the server in the description field, the same as the account name ie Gmail followed by email account name ( Mail Prefs > Account Information > Edit SMTP Server List then enter in description field accordingly ).
Though you did'nt actually provide an answer you nevertheless caused me to think further for which I thank you.

  • Reply ("From") email account automatically changes to 2nd email account

I have 2 email accounts setup on my iPhone. Each has their own individual incoming and outgoing servers setup.
If someone emails me on account "A" and I reply to them, my account "B" shows is the one they receive the email from.
There is no way these accoutns are connected and I am sure that my "From" is setup to account "A".
    Why is this happening???
p.s. On a side note...account "A" is my web hosting account. Account "B" is Gmail.
Ever since I downloaded 4.2.1, I keep getting a popup message saying "Cannot verify server identity"
p.p.s. When I open up account "A" and send a new mail, account "A" shows up as "from" to those people...it only happens when I reply to an email.

  • Trouble setting up two email addresses from same account

I have a Yahoo small business account with one username but 5 email addresses. I need to use at least 2, preferably 3, of them from my iPhone. I can create the 3 addresses, but when I try to type in the 3 sets of POP settings, I get an error message as soon as I type the username, saying "this account has already been set up". Then all it will do is let me edit the email address on the first account.
Anybody know of a work-around for this?

    That is unfortunate.

  • New Apple Mail - When replying to an email, it doesn't maintain the same account that the email was sent to

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion. I have 5 different pop accounts in Apple Mail. It used to be that when I replied to a message that was sent to account 4, it would default the reply-from to be account 4. Now, whenever I hit reply, the default sender is account 1... the one that is chosen in preferences under Composing > Send new messages from:...
How do I get it to always reply from the account to which the email was sent?

At time I am not going to try to answer for two reasons.  The latest version of Mountain Lion is 10.8.2 and that will update your Apple Mail to Version 6.1 (1498). I hope this is very helpful for you?

  • Can Apple Mail be set up to reply to same address message was sent to without having to manually select?

Is there a way to set up Apple Mail so it replies from the same address the message was sent to without having to manually select which email address I'm sending it from? I have multiple Gmail accounts that I forward to one main account and in Gmail it's possible to do this. It's great and super easy. Since I started using the Mail program, I'm constantly sending email from the wrong address and as far as I can tell (which doesn't mean too much) there is no way to prevent this in Apple Mail.
Can anyone help, or at least confirm that there is no actual way to do this? It seems like such a simple option to have, and yet...I dont' see that it's possible.
    Thanks!

I'm thinking an Applecript might do it.  I am assuming you have all those email accounts set up in Mail so that you can send from them.  I'm no Applescript guru but I've thrown this together from some stuff found around the Internet. I doubt it is very robust but give it a shot and tell me if it does what you are asking. I'm sure it could be improved.
This particular script replies to all recipients. Find the line with "and reply to all" and delete those words for a it to be a simple reply.
If you haven't used Applescript, open the Applescript Editor app, copy the script from below, paste it in, compile it. Select an email message then run it. If this works for you, the next step is to create a service from it and give it a keyboard shortcut.
-- Purpose of this script is to send an email response from the account
-- that received the email.  This is mainly useful for mail that has been
-- forwarded to another account and you wish to reply from the original
    -- account.
    tell application "Mail"
-- must have an email message selected/open.
              set theSelection to selection
if theSelection is {} then return
      activate
set theMessage to item 1 of theSelection
set theRecipients to the recipients of theMessage
-- Search the recipients and find one that matches up with one of your email accounts
              set theSendingAccount to ""
repeat with i from 1 to (count of items of theRecipients)
repeat with j from 1 to (count of email addresses of every account)
if (address of item i of theRecipients) = (email addresses of account j as string) then set theSendingAccount to (email addresses of account j as rich text)
                        end repeat
              end repeat
-- If a match was found, create a reply from that account
              if theSendingAccount ≠ "" then
set theOutgoingMessage to reply theMessage with opening window and reply to all
set sender of theOutgoingMessage to theSendingAccount
              end if

  • How do I send emails from various accounts in gmail from my iPad?

I imap 3 accounts through my gmail account. Gmail, in it's browser form, allows me to choose from which account I send an email from  in a drop-down menu. I don't see how to do this on the iPad mail app or through safari for iPad.
If not possible, what are ur solutions for efficiently responding to emails from various accounts on the iPad (network solutions, gmail, and university).
    Thanks!

If you log into Gmail from a computer, you can specify in the settings to always reply from the account the email came from. You should only have to do it once for each account.
    Settings>Accounts and Import.

  • How to reply from the same email account?

I have multiple email accounts. When I receive an email from an alternate account, not the default account, and I respond to this email it is automatically responding from the default account.
I can change it to an alternate email address as on previous iOS versions- that's not my question.  I just want to be able to reply directly from the account the email was sent to. Am I missing something?
    * kudos to the multiple signatures one for each account, but it doesn't help if I'm responding from the wrong account.

I think there is a contradiction in your requirements. You want two people to share an account and you don't want either to interfere with the other.
The short and simple answer is to use IMAP to connect to the mail server. If your current email provider doesn't offer IMAP, find another that does. This is old technology already and it's disgraceful that some email providers haven't yet put it in place.
IMAP means that your messages are stored on the server and both of you will see exactly the same set of messages. And therein lies the contradiction; you will both see changes made by the other so you are inherently interfering with one another.
Caveats: some providers may not permit you both to access the account concurrently, and even if they do, things may become interesting if you both choose to work on the same message simultaneously.
Note that all of this is about email servers and protocols; your choice of Thunderbird as your email client has little bearing on the situation.

  • When replying an email from my icloud alias, it's being sent from primary account

    Hi everybody
I have experienced a little problem which is that when I'm replying to an e-mail from my iphone using my icloud alias, my reply is being sent from my primary e-mail and not from my alias as it should be sent.
That's happening only when I reply from the iphone, not when using webmail icloud.com.
Has anybody experienced the same issue ever?
    Thanks

It may be that you have more than one outgoing mail account, and you're sending from the wrong one. From the Mail menu bar, select
              Mail ▹ Preferences...
The Mail preference dialog opens. Select the Composing tab from the row of icons at the top. From the menu labeled
              Send new messages from:
    choose
              Account of selected mailbox
Note that this setting may have no effect if you start a new message while a VIP or smart mailbox is selected in the mailbox list. Those are saved searches, not actual mailboxes.
If the problem remains, select the Accounts tab in the preference dialog, then select the affected account in the list on the left.
In the Account Information pane, select the correct server in the menu labeled
              Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
If there's only one server in the menu, select
              Edit SMTP Server List...
and add a new server with the correct settings. If you're not sure how to do that, try the Mail Settings Lookup.
Another possibility is that the wrong card in your address book is selected as yours. Select your card in the Contacts application. Then select
Card ▹ Make This My Card
    from the menu bar.
