Reply to Address on Mail

My wife and I each have a folder in the Inbox.  When I create an email, her address is always the reply to address, even when I select my address on the 'From' drop down menu.  I have configured composing prefererences to send email from the selected mailbox, but this isn't working. What I want is the reply to address to be mine when I send things from my folder or when I select my address from the 'From' drop down.
Any suggestion?

I have a similar problem.
I purchased a domain name (we shall call it mycompany.com) and the service includes e-mail forwarding. So, anything sent to [email protected], will in fact fo to [email protected]
What I would like to do is to reply and for the reciever to actually see [email protected], instead of [email protected]
To me, the solution was very simple as to go to account information in Mail and change the e-mail address to [email protected] As it turns out, it is not as simple as I thought. Everytime I try to reply to a message with this settings, I get an error message asking me to choose an SMTP server from the list, and even after choosing the right one, the mail wont be sent.
Now, the weirdest part of all this is that with my previous ISP I used to be able to send e-mails with [email protected] with no problems at all! It worked like a charm and never had the SMTP issue.
I changed ISPs because the Cable service was getting too expensive and the tech support is horrible. Now I use DSL and everything seems to work nice, except for this little bump.
So, do you think this had something to do with Mail or is my new ISP's deal?
Thanks for your time guys!

  • How do I edit my reply-to address in Mail?

Recently upgraded to Yosemite. Previously in Mail, I had my reply-to address as a different address from my primary account (I use a forwarding address from my alma mater).
I can't figure out how to do this in Yosemite.
    Any help?

    Hi KoreanIan,
You can set a reply-to address for each email individually by using the steps in this article -
Mail (Yosemite): Address an email message
    Specifically -
Set a Reply To address: Click the Header Fields button  in the toolbar of the message window, choose Reply-To Address Field, then enter the address where you want to receive replies to your message.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Broken reply to address in Mail

    Hi guys..
Here's the issue I'm having. I receive an email from [email protected] When I press "reply" to this email, the Mail application splits the email address up in two.
So suddenly in the new reply that I'm composing, the recipients are:
firstname, lastname (or sometimes it just does their first name), see the screenshots.
(Above is me receiving an email that I plan to reply to)
(When I reply, it turns her name into just this... which doesn't work)
Neither of them work. I've searched all over for a way to stop this, but can't find anything.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!
    Drew

Okay, I've got a couple ideas about what you're saying is happening. So, I'm going to mention a couple of things as I think they both have some relevancy.
First off, there's a setting in iPhone's "Settings" app in the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" section that allows you to set the "Default Account". However, there's a note under that which says it's used when email is created from outside the Mail app, but it may still help out. (Also, I have notice this get reset to the first account listed, and so I had to set it to my preferred account again.) Somehow, though, I don't think that's going to do it completely for you, but I thought I should mention in case it helps later, too.
The other thing to know is how to change you're outgoing email address when writing an email, reply, forward, or anything outgoing. You'll notice in your outgoing email on the second line from the top, after the To: line, it has a line for the "Cc/Bcc, From:". After the From: will be your current outgoing email address and you can change that by tapping on that line. It'll expand into three lines: one for the Cc:, one for the Bcc:, and one for the From:. There's nothing that makes it obvious, but if you tap on the From: line, you'll be given a menu to choose any of your outgoing addresses. Tapping anywhere else besides on those three lines (Cc, Bcc, From) will cause them to collapse back into one line, saving space once again.
    Any luck?

  • Dealing with SPF, Reply To email address & Mac Mail application

I use Mail.app and my email is hosted by a company other than my ISP. Lately, emails I am sending are bouncing back to me with SPF (Secure Policy Framework) errors. My email host has explained that I need to enter the email address I have through my ISP in the Email Address field in my Mail account preferences, and enter my other email address in the Reply To field. Is there a way to enter a Reply To address in Mail.app? Or is there another way around this SPF issue? My email host has already told me that circumventing SPF records for my account is not possible.

No longer an issue, ISP now using SMTP authentication which I can set through Outgoing server settings in Mail Prefs.

  • Wrong reply-to address sent from iPhone mail  after moving to iCloud

I had this strange experience that shortly after moving to iCloud, one of my email accounts got mixed up with the reply to address.
    I use both accounts:
    - [email protected]
    - [email protected]
When I reply to a message received in my xs4all account and send a reply (visually is in the mail the field From: [email protected]), the receiver will get a mail with reply address [email protected]
So I noticed that all replies were sent to my gmail account.
    Has anyone else the same?

Try SETTINGS, ICLOUD, click ACCOUNT field and scroll down to MAIL.  Click on MAIL field.  Here you can click on EMAIL field and a new screen of choices for default account comes up.  Choose your default account here.  Go back a page and you see ALLOW SENDING FROM and a list of allowed addresses to pick.  Choose all of the ones you'd like to be able to use.  HOPE THAT HELPS YOU.  Click DONE when you finish.  Tami

  • How do I change the address used in "Reply to" permanently in Mail?

    Hi there,
I use OS X in German so I am not sure exactly what terms are used in the English version and I hope I translate this correctly.
    I have the following issue:
I use differnet amail addresses for business purposes but I want to be able to use all iCloud advantages and work on my emails to keep all 4 devices I am using in sync. Therefor I reduced my old business domains to forwarding emails to one iCloud account. The problem is that I still want the person I write to see the email address from my domain as the "reply to" address. What I did was to add more accounts in Mail for outgoing emails, while all answers are redirected to my icloud account. This worked pretty well but it has a downside. My outgoing mail is only available on the device I sent it from. Sometimes I do have to look what I have written to a person and that can be a pain because I would have to remember if I sent it from the iPhone, iPad, Air or iMac.
The only real sollution I can think of is to only use the iCloud address to sent emails and to change the "reply to" while I write. This of course is quite annoying to do manually for every email if you write many emails every day.
I have used diffrent email programs in the past and most of them had the possibility to permanently change the "reply to" for outgoing mail. Is there any way in Mail to do so? If not is there a mail client for OS X and iOS that can do so?
    Thank you!

I also did a similar thing and just found out this no longer works in Mavericks.  This completely destroys my workflow and I am not in a panic to find out how to remedy it.
Basically, I have a "catch all" single incoming emailbox for my domain and then send messages with various "reply to" addresses depending on the context.

When I try to reply to an e-mail, I get the message that the recipents e-mail address was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying. How do I fix this?

Try this. Sometimes this is all that you need to do to fix that issue. Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • How to reply from Gmail account using Hotmail address in Mail app in iPhone iOS 6?

    Hello,
Since the iOS 6 upgrade on my 4 iPhone, the "imap.gmail.com" won't work.
I had my e-mail set up as "other" and would receive my Hotmail in Gmail using imap, so I could reply using my Hotmail address.
So I deleted everything and tried again but it still won't work.
In the mean time, I am using the Gmail App but can't use the Apple Mail app because it won't reply from my Hotmail address, and I do not want to have to choose my reply-to address; I didn't have to before.
I do not want to use my Gmail address for anything.
I want to always use my Hotmail address.
Praying for help! I want to be able to use my Mail app like before!
Also not sure if the Gmail app is killing my battery, or if the new iOS 6 is....
    Thanks so much.

I said I want to use my Hotmail ADDRESS only. Not the Hotmail e-mail.
I check my Hotmail in Gmail. I love how Gmail is set up.
    I've tried deleting and recreating.
In order to check my Hotmail in Gmail on the iPhone, and reply from my Hotmail address using Gmail, you have to set up your mail on the iPhone using "other" when adding an e-mail account.
Since the upgrade, it will no longer let me use the "imap" feature and based on my research, it seems like everyone is having this issue.
Yes, I can use the Gmail e-mail account, but when I reply it'll show my Gmail address and I'd like it to show my Hotmail address WITHOUT having to use a drop-down menu and switch the reply-to address.
    Hope that clarifies.

  • Yahoo! Mail Plus and Reply-to address

I am a Yahoo! Mail Plus subscriber, and am able to send emails with various verified addresses, when using the Yahoo Mail Web interface.
My account serves as a collection point for primary mail (which originally goes to a spam service, and in turn is redirected to Yahoo Mail), and some other redirects. I then can check all mail here, and reply with various Reply-to addresses, which are what the recipients see.
But in iPhone Mail using the YahooMail set up, I am only able to specify the default yahoo address, which I never use as a visible "reply to" address.
Does anyone have a fix or suggestion how to solve this?
    Peter in Munich

There's a setting in your "Mail" settings that says "show To:cc label". I have that turned ON.
Now, when I go to an email, and reply to it, I can just Tap the "cc/bcc/from" field with my finger, and it suddenly expands the cc, bcc, and from fields onto their own lines.
The "from" field is now editable.
Touch it, and you get a nice list selection to send 'from' any of your configured email accounts.
    Does that work for you?

  • Ipad: how does mail decide what the "reply to" address is?

I have a weird problem.  Any mail I send from my iPad has the "wrong" reply-to address.  That is, when I send email from one account, it applies a different account address in the "from" field.
Here is the problem (all addresses are fake)
I have two email accounts on my ipad:  [email protected],  [email protected]  I specify "[email protected]" as the Default Account in Mail, Contacts, Calendars
I also have an old account ([email protected]).  This account was my AppleID, etc but I want to get away from that account and move completely to gmail.  Again [email protected] is NOT registered (installed?  what is the term) on the iPad.
Now, I would expect that when I send email, that "[email protected]" would be the "From:" address and that this would also be the reply-to address.
Indeed, when I make a New Message, the "From:" field DOES have [email protected]  I can also tap the From: field and it gives my two choices: [email protected] and [email protected]  However, when it arrives at the recipient, it says "From [email protected]".
Here is the header in Thunderbird when I send a test email from iPad to [email protected] (when I receive it), the header is really strange (again, edited to obfuscate my email):
    From: Joe Blow <[email protected]>
    Mime-Version: 1.0 (1.0)
    Reply-To: [email protected]
    Date: Tue, 12 Feb 2013 13:57:10 -0600
    Delivered-To: [email protected]
    Message-ID: <-2305465076252779989@unknownmsgid>
    Subject: test of return address
    To: Joe Blow <[email protected]>
    Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
    Sent from my iPad
Now this is a strange header.  It is missing all kinds of fields, (such as "Received:, Retur Path, etc) but it is clear that the iPad sen the mail with incorrect From and Reply-To fields.  I dont even have [email protected] as an account on the iPad.
So the question is:  where did it get and how do I fix it?
    Any takers?
BTW, this is with iOS 5.1 (why, because every time I try to update, it says "An error occurred".

You don´t have to insert your e-mail adress in this field, if you don´t want to have the e-mail back to some other adress (that is the only purpose of this setting - just like in Outlook)

  • Problems with Mail 3.5 reply to address

I have a Gmail account and about two years ago changed the settings on Gmail to have the Gmail reply-to address be my work email. I was using Apple Mail for my Gmail account with no problems. Then, about a year ago, I decided to keep my accounts separate so I went into Gmail settings and changed the settings so that the reply-to address would be my Gmail address.
Apple Mail continued to keep my work email as the reply-to address. I tried seemingly everything - deleting the account and reinstating it, making sure that preferences in Apple Mail didn't have my work email as the reply-to address, etc. Finally I gave up and started using Thunderbird.
The problem is that I really like Apple Mail. I think the entire program is just superior to anything else. But it still has that problem where I send an email using Gmail, and the reply-to address is my work email. I checked Gmail settings and the reply-to address is set as my Gmail address.
I am using IMAP on GMail, Apple Mail 3.5, and OS X 10.5.6
Can anyone help me with this? It is really aggravating. I have a feeling that it is a problem with the GMail server-Apple Mail communication.
I hope I don't have to create a brand new GMail account.
    Thanks for any help.

  • MAil reply to address

I would like my reply-to address to be different than the email address in my account when recipients receive email from me. Is this possible with mail 1.3.11 with 10.3.9?
    Thanks in advance, Chris.

You can add a Reply To field to the message header but the Mail.app does not provide for including a default email address for the Reply To field for all sent messages. The chosen Reply To email address must be manually entered for each sent message.
Unless restricted by the provider for this email account, you can enter the chosen Reply To email address or the email address you want to appear as the sending email address for this account in the email address field under the Account Information tab for the account preferences.

  • Mountain Lion Mail Server force reply to address

Using Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 server and the built in Mail Server.
I want to use a group mail (mail listing) for a lodge. My problem is that people tend to use reply to all when replying to a message in the group. Every time a user uses reply to all, another recipient is added to the thread ending up with a lot double mails.
I have tried to make my fellow lodge members only to use the common group mail address when replying, but without luck. I have also tried to make them setup a specific reply-to address (our group e-mail address), but they are far from computer experts.
My question! Is there anyway to have the OS X Mail Server (or another mail server for OS X) force a reply to address for users using POP3?
Hope you understand my question and sorry for any misspelling as I am from Denmark, Europe .
    Regards, Chris.

    Hi Jeffrey,
Many thanks for your input.  I did it the way you describe it.
But meanwhile I found the real reason, and aI'd like to share it with others.
If you created a local network user in the user section, this user is created in the OD.
When creating this user I like to use the initials as shortname.
My emaildresses however are configured as [email protected]
When Postfix is searching the OD for a user he searches for " firstname.lastname" and if during the user creation you omit to give this as a shortname as well, Postfix can never find this user.
So I went to all accounts, added the "firstname.lastname" combination to the shortname (the initials are kept for easy login reasons), and suddenly email is correctly routed to the users.
Seems very stupid, but t was hard to find and took me a lot of time.
    So problem solved.
    Now back to Apple:
If Postfix is looking at the sequence before the @, than it would seem logic to me that when we created users in the users section or in Workgroup Manager, and when we define emailaddresses, the sequence before the @ would be added automatically to the shortname list where Postfix is searching.  Now we have to do this manualy.
For experienced users it's no big deal, but for novices who want to setup things it's not obvious at all.
For me there is clear improvement potential for Apple.
    Thanks again for reacting.
    Bernard.
