Reply to address seems to be broken: POP access with gmail

Hi:
I am using Mail with multiple POP accounts, including a gmail personal account ([email protected]) and a google-based work account ([email protected]).
When I send mail to people from my work account, they see an email that appears to come from my gmail/personal address. When I send mail from my personal account, they also see an email that appears to come from my gmail/personal address.
I think I have Mail set up properly, in that my work account has the proper [email protected] address, etc. This used to work fine until recently...has something changed?
Thanks!

In Mail Preferences > Composing > you have a 'send new mail from' drop down option.
I have the option of sending from the 'last viewed mailbox' or my personal one, you may have more options.
Hope that helps.

  • Using POP access with Gmail

I just got a 3GS and I am trying to configure my Gmail with the Mail app in the manner that's best for me and I'm hitting a bit of a snag.
I know that the iPhone will "archive" emails in Gmail when using the Mail app and moves them into the All Mail folder but I find that a bit inconvenient.
I would like for the Mail app to work in a manner that pulls email from my Gmail account but leaves the original messages in the Webmail account as my wife and I share an email address. So I don't want to delete an email on my iPhone and have it deleted in Gmail.
It appears that if I enable POP in Gmail it will keep a copy of the downloaded messages in the Gmail account but what will occur if I delete a message on the iPhone?
Does anyone use iPhone/Gmail in this manner???
    Thanks for the help!

Have you tried deleting a message from the phone to see what happens?
My similar issue is that after the iphone checks gmail POP, mail.app doesn't retrieve the emails. The emails are still marked unread at www.gmail.com.
I also want to be able to access my emails from different devices. I look forward to hearing solutions.

  • My Yosemite POP account with Gmail and Apple Mail is gone

I just noticed in the last few days that my Apple Mail Gmail account has changed from POP to iMap without my intervention.  It no longer has the drop-down box to choose one or the other.  I want to keep my Apple Mail as a POP account, but I can no longer change it.  Is this possible?  If so, what do I do.  FYI, on my iOS devices I use iMap accounts for my gmail mail. Thanks!

You can try reconfiguring the account as POP. Delete the account, then add it back. After filling in the 1st screen, hold down the option/alt key while clicking Continue. Fill in the necessary information, then click continue until all screens are filled in.

I'm guessing your iMac is new enough to be running Snow Leopard and the MacBook is not, if so, install Snow Leopard on the MacBook.

  • Problems with Mail 3.5 reply to address

I have a Gmail account and about two years ago changed the settings on Gmail to have the Gmail reply-to address be my work email. I was using Apple Mail for my Gmail account with no problems. Then, about a year ago, I decided to keep my accounts separate so I went into Gmail settings and changed the settings so that the reply-to address would be my Gmail address.
Apple Mail continued to keep my work email as the reply-to address. I tried seemingly everything - deleting the account and reinstating it, making sure that preferences in Apple Mail didn't have my work email as the reply-to address, etc. Finally I gave up and started using Thunderbird.
The problem is that I really like Apple Mail. I think the entire program is just superior to anything else. But it still has that problem where I send an email using Gmail, and the reply-to address is my work email. I checked Gmail settings and the reply-to address is set as my Gmail address.
I am using IMAP on GMail, Apple Mail 3.5, and OS X 10.5.6
Can anyone help me with this? It is really aggravating. I have a feeling that it is a problem with the GMail server-Apple Mail communication.
I hope I don't have to create a brand new GMail account.
    Thanks for any help.

  • IMAP reply-to address?

I've been using the mail account from my ISP with mail forwarding set up from my own domain into the ISP POP account. I'm just about to change ISPs and thought I'd move to a gmail account instead of being ISP-reliant... even better (I thought!) they support IMAP making the whole process easier.
So I'm trying to use my gmail account as my main IMAP server but any emails I send to go out with my gmail reply-to address instead of my domain e-mail address... is there some way of configuring this that I'm missing?
This seems to work nicely for POP accounts, but for IMAP accounts I can't find the settings. Is it possible at all?

    Noone?
So does noone use IMAP from their own domain email address? You all use the standard @googlemail.com or @gmail.com, say?
Or has this been discussed many times and is impossible to do? I can't find anything helpful anywhere online as a lot of references are clouded by talking about earlier iPhones & earlier software

  • How to change "reply to" address?

I have a domain host, which forwards me email via that domain (e.g: [email protected]) in to my Comcast email (e.g: [email protected]).
I used to use MS Entourage which allowed me to send email from the comcast account, but with a "Reply to" the [email protected] email, so people emailing with me would be unaware of the Comcast account.
It does not seem obvious how to do this with Apple Mail, and I can't find it in any help or discussion forums? I tried changing the email address in Mail Preferences Account Information, but the outbound email still arrives with "Comcast" in the from address...
How can I change mail to send email with my domain "[email protected]" in the Reply To, even though I'm sending via Comcast's smtp...
    Thanks!
    Mark

In the email compose window, look for the small rectangle with three lines and a triangle, next to the word Account. Click there and select Reply-To Address Field. The Reply To field will appear.

  • My address seems to be blocked by some of my contacts and doesn't even make it into their spam folders.

Hello. I've been having some difficulties with e-mails bouncing even when I know that the address is a good one. Contacts can send e-mails to me, but when I try replying to those e-mails, they bounce. I apologized to a customer who, knowing much more about this sort of thing than I do, told me that my e-mail address seems to be blocked in such a way that the e-mails don't even make it to spam folders. He said that I ought to send an e-mail to the system admin explaining the situation and asking for it to be remedied.

If you want to report this to your system admin that would be with your email provider and not Thunderbird. Thunderbird is email client software that runs on YOUR computer. You are the admin of your computer.
What is the error message that is returned with the email? That tells you why the message was returned.

  • How to associate one address with a "reply to" address?

I have several mail accounts in Mail, including one IMAP account and one Mac account.
Due to some recent problems with one of those addresses, I would like to include a different address in the "Reply to" line.
Of course, I have no problem to include manually the "Reply to" address each time. But I would prefer to have the possibility to have automatically messages sent from that address include the "Reply to" address - not for all accounts, but only for that one.
I have made several attempts, using for instance "Personalize" in a message, hoping that future messages sent from that account would keep the settings for future messages, but it does not seem to work.
Maybe there is no way - but maybe there is one which has not even come to my mind. If somebody knows a trick in order to produce the desired result, I would be delighted to know it!

When I try to add participant to a calendar event, then click "Save".
BB would give error "No associated email account". To correct this, I would select "Associate Email", then add a local email account to be associated. Then when try to save again, BB will come up with same error message  ...  "No associated email account". Then it will go through the loop again. Get the point? I think this is a software bug that needs to be corrected.

  • Reply to Address on Mail

My wife and I each have a folder in the Inbox.  When I create an email, her address is always the reply to address, even when I select my address on the 'From' drop down menu.  I have configured composing prefererences to send email from the selected mailbox, but this isn't working. What I want is the reply to address to be mine when I send things from my folder or when I select my address from the 'From' drop down.
    Any suggestion?

    I have a similar problem.
I purchased a domain name (we shall call it mycompany.com) and the service includes e-mail forwarding. So, anything sent to [email protected], will in fact fo to [email protected]
What I would like to do is to reply and for the reciever to actually see [email protected], instead of [email protected]
To me, the solution was very simple as to go to account information in Mail and change the e-mail address to [email protected] As it turns out, it is not as simple as I thought. Everytime I try to reply to a message with this settings, I get an error message asking me to choose an SMTP server from the list, and even after choosing the right one, the mail wont be sent.
Now, the weirdest part of all this is that with my previous ISP I used to be able to send e-mails with [email protected] with no problems at all! It worked like a charm and never had the SMTP issue.
I changed ISPs because the Cable service was getting too expensive and the tech support is horrible. Now I use DSL and everything seems to work nice, except for this little bump.
So, do you think this had something to do with Mail or is my new ISP's deal?

  • Gmail Reply-to address

Just wondering if anyone could help me out here. I have just discovered that messages sent on my iPhone from my Gmail account are sent as '[email protected]'. However, I have set Gmail up in its settings so that the default 'Reply-to' address AND 'Send mail as' address is '[email protected]'. I'm with 1and1 for web hosting, but don't have a 'mailbox' - just email forwarding. I don't mind paying a little a month, but I want to use Gmail as my mailbox and can't see a way around this.
Can anyone help, or point me in the direction of a thread which can?
    Thanks!
    (re-posted from the wrong discussion)

Yes, I have the same issue. I cannot get gmail on iOS4 to send using the correct "reply-to" email address specified in gmail settings, and there seem to be no settings in the iphone to do it either.
I also tried setting up gmail in the iphone as an "other" account type, but that resulted in VERY strange behavior.

  • Change Reply-To Address

I am trying to have my .mac account always send the "from" address to another email address other than my .mac account. This email address is [email protected] and is a forwarding service. Since I move so much, I want all my email to be sent to my pobox.com address so that I don't have to worry about changing my email address wrt to the ISP I am using. I realize that I can do this through my .mac account but since I have so many people already emailing to my pobox.com account that I would like my MacMail account to show that as the "reply-to" address. I have the "reply-to" window called up and when I enter the desired "reply-to" address it still ends up at the destination as [email protected] no matter what I enter into the "reply-to" window. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for any assistance.

    You did what?
bbop, your .Mac account is your .Mac account and it must have the e-mail address associated with that account. You cannot arbitrarily create a mail account and put whatever you want in the address field. It may work with some ISPs and for some particular addresses, but you shouldn't do that.
Now, the real problem is that, if I've understood correctly what you've done, you have set up your .Mac account twice, right? Do not delete any of them until you've answered the following question: Have you set them both up using the same account type (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?
So if I understand you correctly, the from address
will always show the @mac.com address but when you
enter a different address in the reply-to window the
recipient will reply to that address. Correct?
Yes, that's correct. I've been telling you this since the very beginning. The From field will always show the address of whatever account you choose to send your mail from. You can't/shouldn't put the address of an account that doesn't exist there. But that shouldn't be a problem because, if you use a Reply-To header, what really matters when the recipient replies is the address that appears in the Reply-To header.
I still don't understand your obsession with setting the From field to an address which you cannot send mail from. What exactly are you trying to accomplish by doing that?

  • Changing reply to address in .mac account on Mail

I use Mail with .mac for email. However, for work I have a company domain name/email address which is forwarded automatically to my .mac address/account. I want to be able to send messages where the "from" and "reply to" addresses are [email protected], not [email protected] Can anyone help me set this up please?
Hope I've expressed the problem clearly, with many thanks

  • Use a different "From" e-mail address or reply-to address

I have a problem because my principle e-mail host doesn't seem to be supporting push mail with the z10, so I have set up a forwarding rule to another account that does have push support. However, I would like my replies from the second account to have the original e-mail address rather than the address of the second account. I can change the smtp outgoing mail server but it doesn't change the "from" field or add a reply-to field.
Is there any way to use an alternate "from" field or add a "reply-to" field to an account?

Your "another account" should have that ability. You don't see a "reply to" field in your forwarding account"
If not, it can't be done on the Z10 itself (unless it is also in the account setup options for that other account).

  • Mountain Lion Mail Server force reply to address

Using Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 server and the built in Mail Server.
I want to use a group mail (mail listing) for a lodge. My problem is that people tend to use reply to all when replying to a message in the group. Every time a user uses reply to all, another recipient is added to the thread ending up with a lot double mails.
I have tried to make my fellow lodge members only to use the common group mail address when replying, but without luck. I have also tried to make them setup a specific reply-to address (our group e-mail address), but they are far from computer experts.
My question! Is there anyway to have the OS X Mail Server (or another mail server for OS X) force a reply to address for users using POP3?
Hope you understand my question and sorry for any misspelling as I am from Denmark, Europe .
    Regards, Chris.

    Hi Jeffrey,
Many thanks for your input.  I did it the way you describe it.
But meanwhile I found the real reason, and aI'd like to share it with others.
If you created a local network user in the user section, this user is created in the OD.
When creating this user I like to use the initials as shortname.
My emaildresses however are configured as [email protected]
When Postfix is searching the OD for a user he searches for " firstname.lastname" and if during the user creation you omit to give this as a shortname as well, Postfix can never find this user.
So I went to all accounts, added the "firstname.lastname" combination to the shortname (the initials are kept for easy login reasons), and suddenly email is correctly routed to the users.
Seems very stupid, but t was hard to find and took me a lot of time.
    So problem solved.
    Now back to Apple:
If Postfix is looking at the sequence before the @, than it would seem logic to me that when we created users in the users section or in Workgroup Manager, and when we define emailaddresses, the sequence before the @ would be added automatically to the shortname list where Postfix is searching.  Now we have to do this manualy.
For experienced users it's no big deal, but for novices who want to setup things it's not obvious at all.
For me there is clear improvement potential for Apple.
    Thanks again for reacting.
    Bernard.
