Report 10g - Preview - Character mode

I have a lot of character reports (6i), which have to be print to a dot matrix printer. In 10g there is no more preview of report. Instead of the preview , i was thinking of creating a mimetype for a file .wri and open the result in wordpad at the cliente side. The user then prints do the printer. But when i print via wordpad, the escape character doesnÂ´It seems to work.
I've tried orarrp also, it works printing directy to the printer, but there is no preview.
Is there another way to solve this?

hi all,
i am facing a problem to print reports, devepoped in character mode.
i am using report builder 6.0.5.28.0
and operating system windows 98 on client.
The situation is
A) 1st case: when i run a report (.rep file) with destination type
screen or preview. then i want to print it on printer, but as soon
as i select the printer and click ok button it gives the
operating system's message of "this function has performed an illegal
operation" and the application exits.
B) 2nd case: when i run a report (.rep file) with destination type
screen or preview. then i want to generate an text file .txt,
but when i generate to txt it doesn't generate the file as in screen
i.e. format is changed.
C) 3rd case: the interesting situation is that when i run
a report (.rep file) with destination type printer and
select the printer and click ok it prints quite fine.
D) 4rth case:similarly if i select the destination type as file the it
generates to file quite fine.
please help me in this regrard.
suggest either i need any patch etc.
i haven't install any patch

1) install the latest patches

Problem in oracle 10g web application report printing in character mode

Hi,
We are using oracle dev. 10g suite based web application.
This is an application migrated from oracle forms & report 6i.
It's working fine except printing report in character mode. When we run the report then preview is Ok but in printing format becomes wrong.
I means printing is not same as preview.
Can any one help me on this situation.

Report output in character mode

Hi,
I have a group by report with sub totals after each grouping. I need this report output in a text file in character mode.
The output looks fine, but the sub totals are not being displayed in character output format.
When I run it to the screen then I do see the sub total. The report is developed in 10g.
Please help.

Printing barcode in oracle report 6i in character mode

Hi there,
I am new in oracle reports, especially in printing it in character mode.
I am trying to create a report for ticketing purposes, so I have to put barcode on it.
So far, I did follow this link Printing in character mode (urgent)
and yes, I didn't get it. I been doing this 3 days already and no successful result.
I just don't get the commands in .prt file and how could i integrate it in oracle report 6i.
The printer I use : epson LX-300+
windows OS.
Your help is highly needed, any opinion will do. I just need help that bad.

Running reports 10g in batch mode in a remote server

Hi all
I have 10g AS and reports servives running in server1. I want to invoke some reports deployed in server1 from another server (server2) and create the output files (PDFs) in server 2.
Is this possible?
Any help is appreciated.

Use the thin client on server2:

To put the output on server2 you either have to map a drive to server2 on server1 or ftp the output from server1 to server2.

Prin character mode report (do not want to use Samba)

Helo,
i need input from someone experience implement oracle reports 10g for character mode report.
this is the issue :
1. Client doesn't want to use Samba cause some security issue.
2. Because of issue no.1 we can not use file sharing or printer sharing to communicate server with client pc
3. Our application is swing based app with Oracle ADF JClient framework.(we can't use MIME types)
What choices do i have ? please help.

Character Mode Reports On Winxp/2000

I am developer character mode report in oracle developer 6i.
when i am running it on winxp or win2000 then its om in preview but it takes double space while printing.
Please send me any sample character mode on scott schema which can't take double space in printing.
Please write its step-by-step procedure becouse its easy to find where i am doing mistake.

Three things here:
1. You must have a report define for characte mode.
2. You set up the printer definition file .prt files present under $ORACLE_HOME/reports60/printer.
3. While running throug web, you either specify mode=character in url request or set this inside the Reports definition file permanently. In
URL request, you also need to specify the desformat=<printer_prt_file_name>.
This will work.

6i character mode report migrate to 11g , printing result were incorrect in the same matrix printer?

Hi All
We got stuck when our 6i character mode report migrate to 11g.
We use the same PC to test, when run 6i report(character mode with 200 column) in legacy system, report result were correct in our matrix printer ,
When running in 11g, if we directly print report via report builder (without preview), result were correct.
But running report via preview/screen mode, printing result were incorrect ( not 200 column width).
We try to adjust PC's printer/paper setting , but our-defined printing option never appeared in printer dialog.
Is anything(config or some setting) we forgot to do in this situation ?

Print in character mode with Reports 6i

No matter what I do, when I try to print a report made in character mode the .prt file is not applied, I changed de initial value of desformat to de desired printer configuration, but nothing, I even change de dflt.prt, and made de width larger but it still prints with de default configuration.
If anyone can help me.

actually i faced this problem b4. ok let me give u full procedure that I apply to make my reports be printed in .txt file as i want it.
humm...first of all if u are creating reports using report wizard plz make sure u select Template = "Character Mode"
and if not using report wizard as I don't use he he he..then
ok ...let go...
1. open property palette for report module
- set unit of measurement = Centimeter (it's not that imp but i do)
- now go at last section in that prop. pale. and set "Design In Character Units" = "Yes"
2. in Data Model goto system parameters
- Desformat = "dflt" (it's default)
- desname = "d:\h1.txt" (or whtever u like it;'s use full while development)
- destype = "File" (so u will get your report directly into the file specified at desname)
- mode = "Character" (obviously..he he he)
ok now step 3
3. layout model
-> main Section
- humm now let say u want your report to be 150 char in width
so just see there u will find width = 21.59 and in char mode (down in that prop.
pale.) report width = 80
so it's very simple maths 150 char => 40.48125 got it....
now that's all he he he
Enjoy your report with 150 char width...wht else... ok ok ok let me give u a copy of my dflt.prt (as it's also having it's impact on this...issue :)

Rep-3002 while calling report from form in character mode on web environment

When I call a report by using run_product from a form , i get rep-3002. my report is in character mode. if i change it to bitmap that works fine. but my requirement is of character mode on web environment.

If you are running in WinNT/2000 environment, the NT/2000 user which runs the Report Server service must have a printer defined. In the control panel, look at the properties for the Report Server to see what user it runs as. Log in as that user and make sure a default printer is defined.

Problem with character mode printing on epson lx-300

Greetings
I developed a character mode report and is printing fine on the printer lx-300 when I use Reports 6i (Client/Server)
We migrated all the platform to OAS 10G Release2 bu the same report has the following behaviour:
1. The left margin is shift to lthe right about 2 inches.
2. Is printing shrinked and the characters doesn't see well.
The report is a character mode report of (132 columns, 66 lines).
I set the default prt to:
printer "dflt"
height 66
width 132
after page control(L)
return ""
linefeed control(J)
The run parameters are mode=character and desformat=dlft.prt
Anybody has experience using character mode reports on 10g on matrix printers like epson lx-300?

Here is a way out for the issue you have submitted. I can't guarantee that this wayout work perfectly:
Question:
As we know that the dos matrix printer supports dos prompt and thus printing speed and
life of the printing head is comparatively more than what we print the same in graphical format.
So when I tried to print from SAP Bone in dot matrix printer, the printing speed is very slow and quality of printout is not good enough.
Any clarifications on this regard would prove very helpful to me.

Do you use one of this printer types:
Dot Matrix, Printer, Needle Printer, Citizen ProDot 300 , Oki Microline, Epson FX880, Epson FX890 ?
Here the stepwise I have tried :
In order to print using Dot Matrix printers, follow the below
instructions:
1. Run SAP Business One.
2. Click the upper menu 'File' and select 'Page Setup'.
3. The Print Setup window opens. Under 'Paper', in the field 'Size', select 'Letter' from the drop down menu.
4. Click OK to confirm your selection.
5. On your desktop, click Start => Settings => Printers.
6. Right click on the required Dot Matrix printer and select 'Printing Preferences...'.
7. Click the 'Paper/Quality' tab page and click the 'Advanced' pushbutton.
8. Under'Paper/Output'=> 'Paper Size', click on the underlined paper size(e.g. A4) and select 'Letter' from the drop down menu.
Note that if you leave the value 'A4', each page will be spreaded over 2 pages when printing using Dot Matrix printers.
9. Under 'Graphic'=> 'Print Quality', click on the underlined value (e.g. 230X250 dots per inch) and select '120X144 dots per inch' from thedrop down menu.
Note that in case the value '120X144' is not available you should select a similar value from the list.
I did not test it yet and I am not so sure about the result but you could test it.

Character mode printing

Hi all,
I am facing the problem with character mode printing. I can see the output on the screen without wrapping. But in the print it will be wrapped. As per the replies in the forum, I changed the desformat to wide, but it increased the width a little but still wraps a portion of it. I also tried desformat=wide180 still it is the same. I also changed the orientation to landscape and still it is the same.
These reports are running fine in unix based reports 2.5 character mode. But in windows, I face this problem.
If anybody knows the solution, please advise as soon as possible.

At design time use fontsize 12 because that is default.
In case u are calling a report froma form set the report_object properties like desformat.Also see whether the prn files are existing in the appropriate directory.

Bold Printing in Character Mode

Hi,
We would like to print the contents of the report in bold format. We tried to change the bold.prt
file accordingly but it is not working as expected. Is there any parameter in the report that has
to be set and is there any example that you can give us for using escape sequence. We are using
Generic/Text printer for printing the report output in character mode.

Hi,
First create your .prt file. In this file, you must define the printer escape sequence for making an object print in bold format, for example. Most of the supplied .prt files incorporate this code. An example of a HP printer setting is:
code "1" esc"(s7B"
code "2" esc"(s0B"
Check your printer settings and/or consult your printer manual for more information on other effects, such as italic.
Next build your character mode report.
The report must now be set to the .prt file. Set the DESFORMAT system parameter for your report to test.prt (no need for .prt extension). This can also be set as a runtime parameter.
Next, go to the object in the report that you want to print in bold; such as, boilerplate text. Click on the properties for the boilerplate text, and go to the 'Printer Codes' tab. References to the escape codes shown above must be entered here in the Before and After fields. You are interested in the BOLD On and Off printer escape sequences so we would put &1 in the before and &2 in the after field.
Save and run the report directing the output to a valid printer. The printed version of the character mode report should incorporate your changes.
NOTE: You do not have to use &1, and so forth, Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.

is not working
