Report Builder - Previewer - Menu File - Generate to File

Hi all,
I am using report 6. I execute myreport from form and in the previewer I try to convert my report in pdf format from the given option File - Generate to File - pdf. It creates the pdf file but no data of the report exist. It is a plain report with data. Can anyone help me in solving this problem.
If I run the report from my form by passing parameter as destype - File and desformat - pdf then the pdf is created with data.
Can I know what is the purpose of the option given in previewer/screen to convert the displayed report in various formats when it is not possible or it doesn't convert in that format.
Please help me

Hello,
There was a bug about this kind of problem in the First versions of Reports 6.
I suggest to apply the latest patchset

    Hi,
Reports Builder 6i Crashes while compiling .rdf file which has output format as pdf. Does anyone knows how to fix this.
    Thanks,
    HC.

Hi, you may look at your report builder version because a lot of them are bugged out and do need to be upgraded to a higher level...I saw a lots of crashing when opening reports and also compiling reports that ended being an old report builder version full of bugs.

  • Unable to Connect to the Data Source with Report Builder when using a closed Excel file

I am using Report Builder 3.0 and to get started I am using an Excel spreadsheet as my data source.  I set this up just fine.  I can connect successfully if the file is open Excel.  But if I close the file, I get the error "Unable to
    Connect to the data source".
    This is my connection string:
    Dsn=Licenses;dbq=C:\USERS\AMEADE\DOCUMENTS\licenses.xlsx;defaultdir=C:\USERS\AMEADE\DOCUMENTS;driverid=790;fil=excel 8.0;maxbuffersize=2048;pagetimeout=5
Works fine if the file is open but stops working when the file is closed.  Any idea what I can do?

    Hi Alice,
Based on my understanding, when you keep the Excel file open, you can connect to the data source correctly. But when you close the Excel file, the error “Unable to Connect to the data source” is thrown out.
In your scenario, I would like to know if only this Excel comes across this issue. Have you experienced the same issue when you use other Excel files as a data source? As we tested in our environment, we can connect to the data source whether the Excel file
is open. You can refer to this
article to create a data source again then check if you can connect to the data source when the Excel file is closed.
If issue persists, I would suggest you use the
Process Monitor to capture the processes during the connection to the data source. Then check the result of each process to find the exact reason.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • Report Builder 10 Crashing while generating to pdf

I can get a report to show all the pages in previewer mode.
However, when attempting to generate to pdf, report builder crashes at random times. Not at just one page, but whenever it feels like it.
Report is 4,000 pages, but I've ran 15k page to pdf before. And it is NOT the report, it crashes on all reports.
We've had some recent windows security updates pused to us recently, but that is it as far as system changes go.
    Environment:
    Win XP, SP3
    Report Builder 10.1.2.0.2
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production

Report Builder 10.1.2.0.2That is the base version of Developer Suite that you can download on OTN. I would at least start with upgrading to the latest patch, especially since you connect to an 11g database.
Another thing: do you have this problem in Reports Builder, or on the application server? Latter case: check your AS version against the certification matrix too.

  • How to zip all the files generated using file adapter

    Hello Everyone,

    Hi,
you can use on of the command line ZIP utilities:
    http://www.winzip.com/prodpagecl.htm

then when your file adapter puts the file
you can use commnad line to zip the files

  • Reports 6.0 and Parameter Lists and Generate to File

I am using the run_product built in from Forms 6.0 and opening
up a report passing it several parameters via a parameter list.
Everything works great when previewing the report.
There is the option in the report preview under File -> Generate
to File. When I generate a report to file using any type of
format it appears that the report does not use the parameters
that I passed in originally from the form. It appears that it
looses all the parameters I passed in. This is most concerning
to me. Am I doing something wrong or is this a "feature" I
didn't know about? I really would like users to have this
    ability.

Yes I guess this will work, but the option to generate to file
is extremely misleading if you ask me. This option should
generate the current report with the current parameters. This
is unacceptable as far as I am concerned and should be
considered a bug. Oracle needs to give us more control over
FORMS and REPORTS into all too many situations I have been
frustrated because I am not able to do something that I want to
    do.
I feel in general REPORTS object is very limited compared to
    crystal reports....

  • How to generate PDF file through reports using forms 6i

    hi,
regarding report, there is a dedicated report forum. you should post there.
but answer for your question is form is nothing to do with the pdf generation. you can call the report from the as usual.
In the report you should set the properties like
    destype to 'file'
desname to 'path with file name'
    desformat to 'pdf'

  • Generate to File not working

    Hai,
we are calling the report using the command line method not
run_product.for these reports 'Generate to File' menu is not working. It shows
an error like Umimplemented Error (rep-0999).There is one default printer attached to m/c. and the operation system is winows nt.This is working when running the report in report builder.it is not working when called through menu.Pls help me to solve this problem.
    dilip

    Hi,
I am not sure what do you want to convey here - "It is working with Reports builder and not working with menu". From Report builder, only way to generate the otput to file is to go through menu, there are no other shortcut or toolbar icon present. Do you want to say, it works when you run to previewer but is failing when you generate to a file. To give you a hint:
    1. Does the problem exist with only this report or with all the reports?
    2. If the problem is with all the reports, then there is a setup problem.
    3. Try running PRINTER DRIVER TEST against your printer, to check it is ok?
    4. Check that the login under which you are trying to run the report, has the priviledge to print with this default printer.
    5. Try changing the printer driver?
If this does not solve the problem, please contact Oracle support to resolve this issue.
    Thanks,
    Rohit

What can be reason that its not generating PDF file format.
Thanks in Advance for your time.

    Hi Saumen,
I don't think so that .. I have memory problem or some other issue on the hardware side .. bcos I used the same report builder on same machine against the same instance.. to generate the 70K pages PDF file ... but nothing happened ...And this report is fetching only 10 records. during the execution of the report, Report Builder get close. without generating any message. without keeping any processor busy.
I am feeling that report builder try to write in the PDF file format .. but unable to write.. may b some thing is wrong on the privileges side of the VIEW. But I have Select Priv on the view.
When I try to trace the report, I got the message in the trace file that " Report Aborted on user request"

  • Generating Postscript file using (psl132.prt) and Text file in one go

Actually my requirement is to have soft copy , postscript files in a single shot for character mode report because the report fetches data from the table then deletes the data.
    - I am able to generate softcopy, and postscript files same using distribution file for Bitmap report as shown below :-
    [RWRUN REPORT=C:\Report\R_TEST.RDF userid = test / test @ test DISTRIBUTE=YES DESTINATION=C:\Report\bRep.dst   ERRFILE=C:\Report\Final\report.err
The brep.dst file for bitmap report is as follows:-
    DEST1: DESNAME=C:\Report\tpdf.pdf DESTYPE=File DESFORMAT=PDF COPIES=1 LEVEL=Report
    DEST2: DESNAME=C:\Report\test.prn DESTYPE=File DESFORMAT=BITMAP COPIES=1 LEVEL=Report
But in case of Char mode report i am able to generate text file but i am unable to generate postscript file for using printer definition file. The commands used are as follows :-
    RWRUN REPORT=C:\Report\R_TEST.RDF userid = test / test  @ test DISTRIBUTE=YES MODE=CHARACTER   DESTINATION=C:\Reports\cRep.dst ERRFILE=C:\Report\Final\report.err
The crep.dst file for char report is as follows :-
    DEST1: DESNAME=C:\Report\tpdf.text  DESTYPE=File DESFORMAT=ASCII   COPIES=1 LEVEL=Report
DEST2: DESNAME=C:\Report\test.prn  DESTYPE=File DESFORMAT=prt132.prn COPIES=1 LEVEL=Report  (This option does not work is there any work around to make it work) ]
I am getting an error. it there any work around for this or there is any other solution.
Is there any other way i convert my text file to postscript file or viceversa...thanks

    close_file;

Don't forget: these procedures are all part of the gen_xl_xml package.
To call them from outside the package, you have to prefix each procedure name with the package name, like this:
    declare
    k_file constant varchar2(30) := 'YourFile.xls'
    begin
    gen_xl_xml.create_file(k_file);

  • EPMA Excel File Generator

I'm using 11.1.1.2 and attempting to use the Excel EPMA file generator. I'm getting all of my dimensions, however, I can not get any aliases to load. I'm loading for Planning and Essbase (BSO). All I want to do is load a Default alias but I'm getting 'Invalid Property Data Type for Property 'Alias'.'
My 'Alias' tab has just one entry:
    #root|English
First, does the file generator work for aliases, and if so, what am I doing wrong?
Also, has anyone seen a sample Excel workbook for the file generator. I think that would be super helpful.
    Thanks,
    Michael

I haven't used the Excel ADS file format much (I use text ADS files), but one thing I've noticed is that the File Generator produces files that cannot be re-imported without manipulation. I think of the File Generator as a tool that provides "hints" regarding what your file should look like. One would hope that you could export a file using the File Generator and turn right back around and import it without errors. That isn't the case as of version 11.1.1.2.
In a text file, in the Hierarchies section, you would not have "Alias" as your heading. Instead, it would be something like "Alias=Default". I would try changing this.
In addition, you might want to add the following line to the Alias tab:
    #root|Default
Hopefully this will get you a little further.
    Take Care,

  • Report Builder 6i not recognizing analytic functions

Hi all, in an attempt to speed up a very slow query, I applied analytic function to it. I can save the query in report builder with no problems, however, I cannot create data links between this query and others. After I comment out the analytic function, data links can be made. My colleague said Report Builder 6i is too old so it can only recognize ANSI SQL syntax. Since our DB server is using Oracle 10gR2, is there a way for Report Builder to recognize and compile Oracle 10g syntax?
    Many thanks.

    Hello,
Your colleague is right. Even if the SQL query is executed by the DB server , Reports needs to parse the SQL query.
The SQL parser included in Reports 6i is based on 8.0.6
You can see this version in the Reports Builder help :
Menu : Help -> About Reports Builder ...
    ORACLE Server Release 8.0.6.0.0
