Report Designer problem

Hi Experts,
I am trying to open a query in report designer tool in new GUI. but it showing following error.
"Query(view)definition cannot be retrieved from portal.
please try again or check query and portal setup"
"Exception in method process function"
I am not able to work with any of the queries for report designing.
Help me out of this please

Make sure the BEX Web set up for the JAVA stack is done as per oss note 917950.
The Report Designer require the Portal runtime on the JAVA Stack.

Reporting designer - problem with insertin query

hi, I have problem with inserting query into reporting designer, when i do it there occurs metadata error and the system write check query, but query is ok, there are no variables. Have you any idea whats the problem.

I had a similar problem after "upgrading" to SAPGUI 7.10, except my failure was in the BEx Analyzer. (We are still using BW 3.5 SP 18.)
The solution I found was in SAP Note 1039191 which addresses this problem for both the Analyzer and the Query Designer, and includes a revised "wdbsPres.dll" file as a workaround. After downloading and installing this file, the problem was resolved.
BTW, I have asked SAP when this will be fixed in a future FEP, but they have so far only given me a very ambiguous reply suggesting that I try it on another PC.

Report Designer Problems

Hi all,
I have two questions when I run BEx Report Designer:
1. For InfoProvider or query with Chinese characters, I can't insert Data Provider into Report Designer. The error message is "Server does not return query metadata Check the query". For English-based InfoProvider or query it works.
2. When I insert a query into Report Designer and execute it, it pops up another error message as following:
Version number of report is too high
This report Web item can display reports with version number 2.1 or lower. This report has version number 2.2
To display this report, use a newer version of the report Web item
Contact your system administrator. This error was recorded 
The BW is version 7.0 with SP12 and the BEx is SP12 with Patch1. Please help on these issues if you have any idea. Thanks very much.

Please check the deployment of BI Java.
The message corresponds to a Report Item of NW 2004s SPS 9.
Reports with Version 2.2 can be processed by Report Item SPS 10 and higher.
Report Designer checks the BI SP number (ABAP). You have to make sure
the BW server and the Portal are in sync regarding the SPS. I assume the BI SP was 10 or 11 when the Report was saved. However the Portal was not upgraded when the Report was run.
NW 2004s SPS 12 = BI Java SPS 12, BI ABAP SP 13/14
NW 2004s SPS 11 = BI Java SPS 11, BI ABAP SP 12
NW 2004s SPS 10 = BI Java SPS 10, BI ABAP SP 10/11

Visual studio cross tab report design problem

I have visual studio 2008 and its default crystal reports.
I have created a cross tab report that has a lot of columns and only 3 rows.
So the total number of pages that get printed are 34. (with 12 columns at the top of each page since the xtab is in report header).
My client wants me to utilize the space left at the bottom of the page by having 12 columns at the top and 12 columns at the bottom of the page.
I don't know how this can be achieved.
If the problem is not clear then let me know I'll try to explain more.
I am on a deadline here so please help me.

Report designing problem

Dear All,
I have developed a report in which input is calyr/month (interval) and comparison calye/month.
I have to display purchase value , qy etc ... I have done that.
But now the requirement is i have to calculate average price(month) which is total of purchase value/ total purchase qty for that month...
How to do this ???

Hi,
I hope you are aware of Keyfigures i.e. one is for purchase value and other is for purchase qty .
You created User Entry Variable for 0CALMONTH ---use Single not intervel.
Then follow the following steps..
Your Formula is = Total of purchase value / Total purchase qty for that month
First Calculate Total of purchase value for the given Month(in the Variable) -->A
Then Calculate Total purchase qty for that month. -
> B
Then create one formula and do calculation -
> A/B
Create Clac Key Fig or New selction in columns and Drag & Drop KeyFigure (Purchese Price) and 0CALMONTH and restrict 0CALMONTH with your Variable.
In the same way you create for Quantity
Then do the simple calculation use "Value Without Dimension (Unit-free) -- NODIM" data function for division.
For calculation use the following functions...
i.e. NODIM (A) -
C-Column
NODIM (B)----D-Column
For division use NDIV0 ( C/D)

Sub Report Performance problem

Our current software configuration is Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (10.0.2531.0) where our data is housed. Our User Interface is Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (Visual Basic) and Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP1 platform. We use Crystal Reports 2008 (12.0.0.683) to do our reporting.
We upgraded from Crystal Reports XI and our reports are taking a long time to render?... Is there any evidence of other companies experiencing this trouble? Are there any degraded performance issues when moving from XI to 2008?
In some cases we utilizing a small simple sub report.

Hi Billy,
Subreports in detail sections are never a good idea. Example, you have 100 records returned int he main report and if that field is your subreport link it causes the subreport to run 100 times. Your database is being queried 101 times.
Also, the default time out for database is typically 1 minute, could be you need to verify your report and database so CR can "clean up" any wrong pointers.
It's always better to do the data collection server side if and when possible, after all that's what they do best.
Not much detail to go on so I can't say if it's a report design problem other than the above or not. It could be also that .NET takes time to load all of the CR assemblies so depending on how you have your app configured depends on the delay. If you load a dummy report when your starts up to pre-load CR runtime then subsequent reports will be much faster.
Also check off all of the Verify Database options, you may be telling CR to verify each time which on big databases can cause a delay also.

BI 7.0: Report Designer / WAD Front-End Problems

Hi, We are on SAP Netweaver, BI 7.0 SP05, Stack01.
I have installed New SAP Front-End GUI Components,I dont have any problems executing queries in Web or BEx using Business Explorer 3.X.
I'm getting following errors when i try to execute with new version of Business Explorer.
1) Report Designer: Query XML is empty (BICS), please check query and portal setup.
this query works fine in BEx with New version as well.
2)Web Application Designer: "E002: Error while executing service RRXWS_WEBPUB_CALL_SERVICE:V for object 1()".
I couldnt execute simple web template in browser, when i click execute in browser, it open my local windows SAP directory.
Is there any setting or configuration files i should change?
i searched in OSS notes for these kind of errors, but i couldnt not find any
please let me know as its urgent.

Hi,
we're running NW2004s, BI 7.0 SP06.
I'm now testing the new Frontend-Tools and started with the Query Designer. Installed Patch 2, Revision 227. I created an new query and saved it. So far so good. After executing i get this error message:
iView not found: pcd:portal_content/com.sap.pct/platform_add_ons/com.sap.ip.bi/iViews/com.sap.ip.bi.bex.
Exception id: 11:02_16/02/06_0017_46228450
See the details for the exception ID in the log file
Do I need the integrate an platform_add_on? Does someone get the same errors?

Report designer - inserting problem

hi,
we want to use report designer for formatting reports. When we insert
query to report then following error occurs: internal error
ID: E-CREATEFROMQUERY and message: reference to object is not set to
instance of the object. When I go through this errors and execute
this report to web I get this error: Web Item Report error: Tag "band"
with name "footer1": Tag "keyfigure": Nested tag "y" must not
be empty. Have you any solution for this problem?

I mean frontend SP 12 (is already released). You can stay on your SPS in ABAP, Java. Frontend is compatible with older backend.

Report design Grouping problem

I'm currently designing a report, something like an invoice. The invoice number is usually on the page header. But now i want to create a report to list down all the invoice numbers in the 'details' but when i drag the 'invoice number' data to 'details'
it only show 1 row of numbers, wheareas the data has few rows of it. How can i make it view all my numbers?

Problem Exporting to PDF from Report Designer 2008

When I export my report from Report Designer unless I deselect the "Create Bookmarks from group tree" I get the following error: "Failed to export the report" If I deselect the option It will successfully create the PDF.
I am running Crystal Reports 2008 with service pack 2. I also have Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 loaded on the machine.

You should start debugging by removing parts of the report to determine what is causing the problem. Once you find that part then re-post with a question on how to work around the problem.

Transport problem in Report Designer

I have a Bex Report Designer report. But when I am transporting this object from Development to quality , the report comes with the following error.
Please see below for errors.
I can see the transport went well. I can open the same report in quality.
when I am going to quality system and creating the same report it's working fine.

Hi,
Please check note 964823.If this does not resolve please check if Either your system is support package stack 7 or the role entry was saved before support package stack 8. In case your system is still on support package stack 7, please see note 935348.
In any case, the role entry is broken and you need to delete the entry and store the entry again (either on SPS7 with the note applied or on SPS8).

Report Designer missing 'group level' area - GUI problem?

Hi all -
I have a few questions here that I think are related, so I'm posting in one thread.
1) As far as what I've been reading on, we can upgrade to BI 7.0 even with a front-end SapGUI 640 (patch 19). True or False?
2) One can only use Report Designer with SapGUI 710. True or False?
And here's a long one...
3) When you open Report Designer should we see "Group Level" on the right-hand side (if it's checked to show)? Mine (having sapgui 710 at patch 1) was showing just the ruler, but not the "Group Level" areas... is this a gui issue? What's the fix?
[my history of GUI install:
Before upgrade: Sap GUI 640 patch 8
After upgrade: Installed NW4s BEx components only
(then getting dumps in the r3 back-end) so installed SAP GUI 710 from 50083078_4 cd.
Report Designer missing the group level areas... I thought, might as well install patch 01. But that did not help.]

I had a couple issues to 710 with the report designer. i didnt had anything similar to ur issue, but all my default and specifics of format catalog were blacked out and not allowing me to change that. I downgraded to 640 and everything works fine now. (I tried installing all possible latest and greatest on the GUI but nothing worked and it costed me a whole day to acknowledge the fact)

Report Designer - Error while opening a saved report

Hi,
I am not sure if this is an authorization issue or configuration issue.
When I try to open a saved report on Report designer, I keeping getting an error: Report Version is invalid: "0".
Has anybody faced similar problem?
We are on SP09.

I am afraid, that your report might be corrupted. This might have happened, if in tx SE16 the version is changed. The Report XML displayed in SE16 for table RSERDATA, is limited to ca. 1024 charachters. When editing the version, after pressing the save button, the Report XML is cut off at 1024 charachters and the report is lost.
Please do not set the report version in tx SE16!
I will need to configure the program RS_REPORT_MAINTAIN, such that reports with version "0" can be saved with the minimum version 9.0.
Until then I recommend the following procedure for Reports that are ok, but have the Version "0" bug:
1) in tx SE38, program: RS_REPORT_MAINTAIN
    open your report with option "DT" (designtime)
2) Switch to Edit mode.
    Make a backup copy of the report using the "Save As" Button.
    You can copy the Report XML to the clipboard using Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C
3a) Open a dummy report in RS_REPORT_MAINTAIN created previously with
      Report Desginer ( --> The version is set to 9.0).
      Switch to edit mode and paste the Report XML and Save.
or
3b) Debug FUNCTION rs_bex_report_load_rfc.
      Open a report and change the value of E_REPORT_VERSION to "9.0"
      before leaving the function.
