Report displaying junk characters or Greek or some other language

Hi All,
I have one Custom report in PDF. It is a simple tabular report. When I run this report from Report Builder, it runs fine but when I register it in Oracle Apps and run it from there, it displays all the characters in Greek or some other language or junk characters. Sometimes it works if I change font. But its a trial and error. I dont understand why is it happening. This has happened with one of my other reports too. It worked when I changed the font and its size. This time it didnt work. Any clue how can I fix this issue?
Any lead will be appreciated.
Thanks,
CAH

Hi Hussein,
We have similiar issue with our custom PDF reports. We are in the process of upgrading from 11.5.9 to R12.
All these reports work fine in 11.5.9.
Following are the details of our R12 environment:
1) What is the application release? Application release is 12.1.1
2) What is application/database characterset? Database - 11.1.0.7.0 and characterset is UTF8.
3) Is this a text or bitmap report? What is the report language? - It is a text report and Language is English
4) Do you use PASTA for printing? - Yes we do
5) Do you get the correct printout if you print the concurrent request output file from the OS? - If I run the report from report builder directly, Yes. If from Oracle Apps, no.
6) Expected output: "Days in Queue"
Actual Output: when I copy and paste the output here it is showing correct. But on the report it is showing
something like ∆Ωµ.....
7) If I try changing the font, it works
8) A different text field on the same report with the same font shows good.
I would appreciate your help on this one.
Thanks
Vishnu

  • R12 - Report showing Junk Characters

    Hi
We developed report in English and when we copy and run in R12 it is giving the output in different language like Russian.
I checked the parameters Etcc.. all shows with English.
But when we copy the contents from report (pdf) to notepad it converts to English. Also if I change the font to courier size 10 it works but if we change the font size to 12 again it shows junk.
Can any one faced this type of issue, any suggestions?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
Please see if the following helps

  • IPod screen in some other language, but I want English!

Hello - Just bought an iPOD (7500 songs, photos) for my husband for Christmas. Turns out the screens are all in either Chinese or some kind of font that uses only symbols. Interestingly, the songs we downloaded print across the screen in English. Anybody run into this problem and how did you fix it?
I tried to just restore to factory settings, but unfortunately I'm living in a country that has poor internet connectivity. I keep getting timed out on the download.
I can still use the iPod, but I hate having to guess what the screen says...plus, after I've shelled out $300 plus accessories, I'd like to get what I paid for. Who wouldn't?
Thanks for any help or suggestions in advance!

If you on your iPods can find settings and then language then you can set to english, but I guess you are in trouble if you only see chinese. Here is what I did in my despair after buing a video camera that was preset to chinese. First I was thinking of going to the chinese embassy and ask them to translate, but then I found that I should go to a chinese restaurant and ask and they were very helpful and helped me. Somebody here might be able to write "settings" and "language" in chinese so you can select the correct.
    Regards, Trond

  • How do you change language in iWork. went to use it and every template is in some other language???

How can i change the language on the iwork templates?  they are all in something other than english?

What did you do in school?
The "something" is Latin and is a placeholder, just filler text which is replaced when you select it and type. As is explained in the manual and tutorials available under the Help menu,

  • Junk characters are displayed in report output

    Hi Gurus,
We are facing an issue while generating a report developed in Oracle 10g, while fetching the data in one column the report is displaying junk characters although while running the query on the database the value is coming correct for the same column. We are writing the report data on the AIX and with the help of WEBUTIL the reports gets transferred on the client machine which is having windows XP as operating system. Although we have many reports running on the same concepts but only in this particular report the issue is coming.
    Our AS Version is 10.1.2.3.0
    OS Version is AIX 5.3
    Please provide some solution.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Pradip

    Hi Roberto,
    Thanks for your reply.
As per your suggestion , I had checked with both DB & AS both are same i.e.
In DB it displays the value AMERICAN and for AS it displays NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1
Please give some idea. Sometimes this report gives the right output and sometimes gives output having one column with junk character of CSV file.

  • Junk characters coming in the PDF report for Lithuanian language

    hi all,
I am facing a problem like some junk characters are coming while generating the report in PDF format in Reports 10g.
Junk characters (i.e something like revere of ?(question mark)) coming only for the special characters in the report when my application language set it as LITHUANIAN_LITHUANIA.UTF8.
Actually our application is supporting multi langauges; like English, German, French, Lithuania etc.
And in the Forms the the characters are appearing correctly... but while generating reports only i am having this issue for LITHUANIAN language.
I am using back end as Oracle 10g verision 2, and front as Reports 10g only.
Is there any way to resolve it?
    thanks in advance
    renjish

    Hi,
I updated the reports.sh which is in Oracle Home path initailly and tried the report. But its not coming properly, some other junk characters are appearing now for the special characters
    For e.g:
Actual English word: Funct. Group Poultry Parts Fresh
Correct Lithuanian Word: Funct. Grupė naminių paukščių dalių, šviežios
In Report: Funct. Grupė naminių paukšĕių dalių, šviežios
    Steps i have done:
    1. Modified reports.sh with nls_lang as LITHUANIAN_LITHUANIA.UTF8
    2. Run the report, output was coming like above e.g.
Is anything wrong what i did?.
or Report engine(reports.sh) will support multi-languages by using the Environment ID only(as you explained before, putting ENVID in repserver.conf - reportserver.)
    thanks

  • Junk characters in ldt file

    Hi Experts,
Am a newbie to oracle apps.
Iam using 'messages' to store and display arabic characters in xml report and it is working fine . While migrating the report form one instance to another instance by downloading ldt file, the arabic characters are displaying as junk characters in the ldt file.
Any pointers to resolve this issue will be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Santhosh

I am using Windows 7 and used notepad to view the ldt file.
The arabic characters are converted to some other format like junk.
I tried uploading the ldt file in the same instance.
After uploading the ldt file in the same instance, the the arabic characters are displaying as junk characters in front end while checking.
Are the arab characters are converted to some other format in ldt file?
i didnt tried uploading the ldt file in someother different instance to check for the correctness of arab characters in front end.Set NLS_LANG as suggested in my previous reply before you download the data and it should be in Arabic (assuming your database/application characterset support Arabic language and your client can read Arabic characters) -- FNDLOAD problem with Arabic font

  • Displaying Japanese characters in JSP page

    Hi,
I am calling an application which returns Japanese characters from my JSP. I am getting the captions in Japanese characters from the application and I am able to display the Japanese captions. After displaying the Japanese captions, user will select the particular captions by selecting the check box against the caption and Press Save button. Then I am storing the captions in the javascript string separated by :: and passing it to another JSP.
The acton JSP retrieves that string and split it by using tokenizer and store it in the database. When I retrieve it again from the database and display it, I am not able to see the Japanese characters, it is showing some other characters, may be characters encoded by ISO.
My database is UTF-8 enabled and in my server I am setting the UTF-8 as default encoding. In my JSP pages also, I am setting the charset and encoding type as UTF-8.
I shall appreciate you if you can help me in resolving the issue.

Post the encoding-related statements from your JSPs - there are a number of different ones that may be relevant.
It may also be relevant which database you store the strings in (Oracle, DB2, etc.), since some require an encoding parameter to be passed.

  • Mobile network symbol displays Chinese characters whilst in China instead of English

The network carrier symbol in the status area displays in Chinese characters instead of English whilst travelling in China so that I have to go to the settings to see which carrier is selected. The phone is set to English in the region format and I have never had this on my previous Blackberry. Is it a setting or a firmware issue?

Yup, only if your iOS device is set to English. Then yes, good Pinyin (and even some English!) shows up. I guess my only complaint now (in English) is that you really have to zoom in to see the smaller streets compared to how Google Maps showed them.
The Hanzi is still an issue, though, in at least some other languages. I prefer English but some others in my household prefer Spanish, and when the language is set to Spanish, Hanzi shows up everywhere.

  • Unknown/Junk Characters in RFC call

    Hey All,
I am having a strange issue in one of the RFC calls made from a Java System to our SAP system. We were getting random errors with this interface( the interface was working well before for a long time) . When I Captured the values sent during the RFC calls I found a lot of junk characters being sent by the other system. Is this the problem of the sending sytem or something in between?
Has anyone experienced anything like this before.
Any inputs on what could be the Issue.
    Thanks

    Ash,
The Java Application is connected to the SAP System using Java Connector.
    aRs,
The rfc is basically a wraper of standard Bapi "BAPI_REPMANCONF1_CREATE_MTS" for confirmations which has a IMSEG related structure with a lot of QUAN fields. What do you think is the issue with RFC calls and QUAN fields. Becausing changing all the QUAN's to Chars and converting it back to QUAN in the wrapper will be a decently big change.
I was kindoff ruling out the unicode issue because this interface was working fine for more the 6 months, and we were unicode long time ago.
One thing I suspect where the Issue could be is the SDK kit for the Java application. We recently Updated our Kernel Version and I think we should Upgrade the SDK';s too which was not done. What do you think??
    Thanks

  • [solved] "monospace" font displayed as some other font

For some reason (that I am unable to figure out for myself), the "monospace" font on my system is not displayed as such, but replaced by some other font, presumably* by the last one installed to the system. See this screenshot of uzbl-browser as an example; leafpad's font-selection dialog would be another.
    * A while back (don't remember when) "monospace" started being displayed as some pleasant sans-serif font, which I did not investigate. When I installed some blackletter fonts (ttf-unifraktur) recently, it started being displayed as one of them, which is more of a nuisance, see screenshot.)
What could be going on here? What is the "monospace" font anyway?
Last edited by Franek (2014-02-27 20:54:20)

First: I probably should have mentioned that I am using the infinality-bundle and infinality-bundle-fonts repositories.
(Re-)Installing ttf-dejavu instantly made uzbl pretty again. But actually, I did not have ttf-dejavu installed in the first place, but t1-dejavu-ib from the infinality-bundle-fonts repository. When I change back to t1-dejavu-ib, Monospace is displayed as a blackletter font again.
Here is the output of "fc-match monospace" with ttf-dejavu installed:
    $ fc-match monospace
    DejaVuSansMono.ttf: "DejaVu Sans Mono" "Book"
And here it is with t1-dejavu-ib:
    $ fc-match monospace
    sawarabi-gothic-medium.ttf: "Sawarabi Gothic" "Medium"
About this font (which is certainly not the blackletter font I am seeing in uzbl):
    $ pacman -Qs sawarabi
    local/ttf-sawarabi-ib 0.0045-2 (infinality-bundle-fonts)
Sawarabi font family for Japanese script.
I have nothing in ~/.config/fontconfig, whereas /etc/fonts/conf.d/ is filled with several symlinks, most of which belong to the fontconfig-infinality-ultimate package. They all look alright to me, or rather: I trust that the infinality-bundle(-fonts) packages are doing the right thing. (Should I ask bohoomil about this?) Here is a list:
