Report on cube or DSO ?

Hi colleagues,
Some one could tell me why is it better to build report on cube rather than DSO ?
What the argument list ?

Hi Rajiv,
I assume you are in 7.0. For this kind of formatting u need to use report designer.
in 3.5 there was an option called table view which is not supported in 7.0

Hi,
If any requirment is given ,Based on what conditions we decide which data target(i.e a cube or dso) to be used ?
As of my knowledge,
1) DSO has the property of Over write option and cube have additive property.
2) DSO can have delta records and cube can not have.
Do we need consider these also?while we decide to load?
help me how to decide the data target for a particular requirment

Hi,
If you have to report on a data target, you should always use Cube (give us better performance).
For intermediate storage, we use DSO.
Another thing is that DSO can also be used in additive mode. Regarding Delta, cube can have delta loads and can also provide delta to another target.

Regarding Info cube and DSO

Hi,
Generally reporting will be done on Info Cube rather than DSO.
Suppose If we assign the same data source to Info Cube and DSO then both contains the same data.
Info cube have additive and aggregated functionality where DSO have the overwrite functionality .
Are we using cube for this functionality only ?
What about the Dimensions in Cube how they differ from data fields and key fields in DSO when we are developing same Bex Report on both ?
Please advice me .

It is hard to compare Cube and DSO.
Both thier own usage.
1. InfoCube is always additive, while DSO supports overwrite functionality.
2. In InfoCube, combination of all the characteristic value is a Key in the Fact Table, while in ODS, you can specify your own Key Fields based on which you want to generate unique record in the DSO.
3. DSO supports many delta modes like D, R, N, X, after image, before image, while cube does not support all the modes. You can not delete the record based on the key from the cube by just loading the data. While DSO automaitcally deletes the record from active table and generates the reverse entry for Cube.
4. DSO is a flat structure and therefore, it is used to store information at detail level, while cube is used to store information at aggregated level.
So both the structures are very much different from each other. One can replace other at some places, but both the objects have thier own functionality.

This is sensitive task with regards to large volumes of data in infoproviders.
The issue is to reload of data in case of adjusted structures of infoproviders.

Can we Report BW Cube using Cognos Fornt End tools

Hello, Experts.
We need some inputs on how to Report BW cubes using COGNOS front end tools.
is this possible?
do we need to develop new cubes out in cognos again for making reports?
and in BW cube some attributes of material are not navigational if we go to cognos can we use this attributs for drill down or filtering?

i am currently working on bi 7 with cognos 8.2 and go live very soon
- best approach is to use query as datasource for cognos (cognos consultants agree)
.......without query as datasource, cognos cannot see any reusable objects.
- If i recall, cognos can leverage attributes as navigational even if bw does not have them set that way.
- one downside is that you need to make sure all your rkf descriptions are locked down 100% because cognos uses the description in their xml definitions.
- Make sure you have an experience cognos framework modeler that knows ins and out and does not use simple wizards. same happened to us and lots of settings occured very late and slowed project.

Cube to DSO DTP load

Hi
Iam doing synchronisation of DSO with cube i.e doing a full upload from cube to DSO.When i check the data in DSO it doesn't match with the data in cube.I find some data discrepiancies.
Could you please advise.

Hi,
If you are loading data from cube to ODS then you shouldn't do record count t between two targets unless both targets having same number of char (i.e. dimensions).
The cube will aggregate KPI based on combinations of available dimensions & ODS will overwrite or aggregate (depends on update rule) based on KEY fields.
First check what are fields available in
       Cube
       ODS
       Flat file data.
Please explain with ex. with full details like key fields, number of common fields etc....
So that we can reply you with full understandings your concerns.

Data not loaded to cube from DSO

I activated the standard RPM Financial Planning cube 0RPM_C05. When I do the data loads (not DTP) data requests are sent to DSO. Request status is success and data is active and is available for reporting. However these two DSO are mapped to Info cube (standard content) and I dont see data there.
I don't see any errors in the monitor.
Data sources - 3.x
DSO - 0RPM_DS07 and 0RPM_DS08
Cube - 0RPM_C05

The problem is though the update automatically option is set, the data is not getting loaded.
I used the manual update 3.x data to targets now and it worked. I see the data in the cube.
But how to set this in Process chains. Is this (update 3.x data to targets) the same as Update DSO Data (further update) process type?

I need to Install Standard reports related FI Module and that too related to Financial Accounting: Vendors ( FI AP ) and         Financial Accounting: General Ledger ( FI GL ).
For FI AP - I have replicated the following datasources .
0FI_AP_1                    : Vendors: Transaction figures
0FI_AP_20                  : Vendor Balances
0FI_AP_3                    : Vendors: Line Items
0FI_AP_30                  : Vendor Line Items
0FI_AP_4                    : Vendors: Line Items with Delta Extrcation
For FI GL - I have replicated the following datasources .

Are you required for detailed reporting or strategic reporting?
If it's detailed reporting then go for ODS and if it's strategic reporting then go for cube.

performance is less as compared to cube
overwrite data functionality
obviously INFO CUBE reporting is more advantageous coz, we can go for dimensional reporting . DSO is only for data staging and cleansing the data purposes. if you are using BI 7.0 better create MULTI PROVIDER even if you are using single info cube coz, thats a gud practice.

Hi Sunil,
If you want to add new info object to the IC or DSO which is already holding data - then you need to make a copy of that particular DSO/IC and load the data into dummy.
Now delete the data from the IC/DSO to which you want to add the new info object. once the data is deleted it will allow you to add new info object to you IC/DSO.
save it and activate the IC/DSO
load the data from Dummy DSO and from new run on wards the newly updated info object will also get updated(historical data will not be updated if its newly added to DS as well).
If you want the historical data for the newly added field then you need to drop the compelte data and need to extract from source.
Note: You can't include the new info objects are change the existing info objects if there is data exist in the IC/DSO

Doughts on Infoset Joins with Cube and DSO in BI 7

Dear All,
I have a droughts on Infoset Joints.
I am working on a BI Query where I need to take 0Employee from Cube and Employee position time he holds in an Organization is coming form DSO, Apart for this I also have other requirement such as Address fields , Visa Status , are all coming from DSO.
I have created a Infoset for this where
1st is Cube and its 0Employee is linked to all DSO Employee and also Employee position I have linked with DSO and all are inner joints.
1>My doughty is that will this work with inner joins or I have to use other joints.
2>Is sequence of Data Target is correct
which is
1> Cube and in 2> all DSO in Parallel.
Please guide me on joints and sequence.

Data is not loading to cube from DSO

Hi experts,
I loaded data to DSO. But, the problem is when i am trying to load the same to cube by using DTP there is no added records.
All records from DSO are transferred but 0 added records. The mapping in the transformation is direct mapping no routines are available.
The load is full load.
Pls suggest me to resolve this issue.

Hi,
You wont find the concept of TRFCs while running the DTPs....
*DTP increases the performance*
DTP is faster as DTP data loading is optimized by Parallel process.
Data loading through DTP has no TRFC/LUWs generated at run time thus minimizing the loading time.
Delete the index and reload the data and create the index...
as the request is still active in SM37 -- kill the active job and delete the request from IC.
Next delete the index and trigger the DTP --> create index for IC.
this should work...
