Report stolen iPhone 4 to Apple?

I recently had my iPhone 4 stolen. I use MobileMe and I was able to track it to a house, remote-wipe it, and report the address to police. We'll see what happens. Anyway, someone told me that if I notify Apple, they'll be able to cross-reference any attempt to sync it with iTunes/their account by the serial number. So, any time the phone connects with Apple via iTunes, it's serial number will be flagged by Apple as stolen, and will record the IP address of the computer that's being used to sync it, allowing me to report it to the police.
Is this true?

Is this true?
As the others, I do not believe this to be true.

Where can i report my iPhone lost to Apple? and Can Apple lock it?

If you set up the Find My iPhone service prior to your iPhone going missing, then there is a chance that can be tracked and locked, though it depends on a number of factors: the iPhone is turned on, connected to either the 3G or a WiFi network, or has not had the Find My iPhone service disabled or the iPhone been completely restored. Log into icloud.com and go to the Find My iPhone section. If you did not set up Find My iPhone, check with your cell carrier. Some carriers offer their own tracking service, though you usually have to sign up when you still have the phone and have to pay for the service.
If your carrier does not offer such a service and you did not set up Find My iPhone, then there is no way to track the unit nor lock it, though if you set a screenlock passcode, it would be locked already. Notify the police and your cell carrier, and change any passwords for any online accounts you may have used from your iPhone (the iTunes Store, for instance).
    Regards.

  • Why doesnt apple report stolen iphone activations

why doesnt apple have some way of reporting a stolen iphone mine was stolen and i have the find my phone app and its been online once and nothing since that was in december it was stolen in november of last year.  I paid cash for had no insurance on disablility cannot afford another one.  I paid cash when I got my back pay now I have no iphone and nothing i can do.  apple should have some type of system to see that a phone is stolen or not.

In addition to all of the reasons already given, Apple is not in the business of tracking and listing stolen property.  Theft of iPhones, and other smart phones, has reached epidemic proportions in most large cities.  The only people who have a real reason to keep records of stolen phones would be the cell service providers.
The new iOS version 7 has an anti-theft protection feature - the Activation Lock.  Using that feature makes the iPhone useless to the thief.  But the user must turn that on for it to work.

  • HT1688 How do I report stolen iPhone and what will Apple do about this?

What will Apple do if someone else connects to iTunes with a stolen iPhone

    "iTunes is a service too."
itunes is an online store.  You would have them deny service?  Really?  This would be an invitation to countless problems.
as for cars registration gets checked when
    1. stopped by police
    2. when getting inspection sticker."
    1)  If a thief is caught and they haave an ipod, they will check to see if the serial number is reported stolen ( to the police - not APPLE).  You should report therft ot the police not the make of each iten that is stolen.
    2) You think we should have to have anual inpections for out ipods/iphones?  Really?
None of this is done through Ford, Checy or any other car maker.
Unless you are advocating licensing and registering your iphone with the govenrment, then you are not comparing like issues at all.

  • If I report a stolen iPhone 4 to Apple, will anything be done about it?

I had my iPhone 4 stolen out of my gym locker yesterday night and naturally I am mad.  I am wondering if I called Apple to report a stolen iPhone 4 (and provide the IMEI code) if anything would be done or if they would restrict helping the next owner of the phone if they came in for Apple assistance, or Apple take possession of the phone as it is stolen.

Unfortunately the United States is somewhat unique in not maintaining a blacklist of stolen phones.
Generally a thief can take an iPhone into a store and have the service reactivated.  With the service provider asking no questions.
You can file a report with the police, the odds of them finding it for you are well, astronomical.

  • How to report stolen iPhone ? I want to make no one can use my stolen phone again.

My iPhone was stole and I made new iPhone with same number yesterday. I want no one can use my stolen iPhone again. I have serial number of my stolen iPhone. Can I report my stolen iPhone and make no one can't use it?

ya on a nother ios device download find my iphone and press remote wipe
While this can be done (and can also be done from iCloud.com) it can only be done if "Find My iPhone" was enabled on the device prior to it being lost.

  • Report stolen iPhone to apple

Hi my iPhone was stolen while on holiday. It is being claimed through my travel insurance but the insurer has requested proof that apple is aware of it being stolen. I can't find any way on the apple website to report it and my tech support has expired. What's the best way to contact them without having to pay for a new tech support issue?

Are you sure that's what they want? Or do they want proof that your carrier is aware it's been stolen? (or possibly a copy of the police report)
Apple doesn't care if the phone was stolen. They can't do anything about it.
The best way to do something, I suppose, would be go into your nearest Apple Store.  If they truly need something, then I'd suggest drafting a note informing them that it's been stolen, including the serial number, and asking a manager to sign that he received it (he doesn't have to do anything about it, just acknowledge that he was informed).
If there is no Apple Store near you, get the address of Apple in your country, make a photo copy of the note along with the addressed envelope, and send it via registered mail, signature required.

  • Track Or report Stolen iPhone with IMEI or model

My iPhone was stolen. It had no SIM card, but I have both the IMEI and Model #. Is there anything i can do? Should i contact Apple or AT&T?
    thanks

Sorry, there is no way to track your phone. Apple can't/won't help you, however, AT&T will Blacklist the phone...meaning it can't be activated for service in the US, but they will not track it without a court order to do so.
So, report the loss to the police, your Insurance company & request that AT&T Blacklist it.
Change all of your passwords if you had any data on the phone.

  • HT4061 How to get back my stolen iphone using my apple id?

    Hai.
I lost my Iphone 3 on the 1st of December 2012. Am reqeusting if you can forward my serial number,
Kindly help me trace where my phone can be by using all means possible.

    We're all users like yourself.
Apple does not read or respond here.
Use the article from which your question was posted to find the serial number, not that it will help in anything but writting up a police report.
Apple does not track devices, they are not law enforcement.

  • Can apple track a stolen iphone

can my stolen iphone be traced

True, Apple can't-but with the IMEI theoretically the police could - however in reality they won't as it too much bother unless the theft is related to something serious.
    Sigh,
    Shawn

  • How can I delete everything remotely on a stolen Iphone 4

How can I delete everything remotely on a stolen Iphone 4?

Apple - iPhone 4S - Locate your missing iPhone with Find My iPhone - http://www.apple.com/iphone/built-in-apps/find-my-iphone.html and: iCloud: Find My iPhone overview - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2696
The following conditions ALL have to be met:
    1) You have the "Find My" activated BEFORE you lose the device.
    2) The device is turned on.
    3) The device is able to connect to a registered wifi connection (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) or data network (iPhone, iPad).
    4) The device was not restored by a finder of the device (if it was really stolen then the thief has probably restored it).
If you have activated the "Find My" feature, go to https://www.icloud.com or use the Find My iPhone app - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/find-my-iphone/id376101648?mt=8
Setting up iCloud (requires iOS5) - http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/ios.html - includes activating the 'Find My' feature.
Frankly in the case of a stolen phone this almost never works. Report it to the police.  Change passwords on accounts. Tell your carrier to stop service. Go shopping for a new phone.

  • I reported to Austin Police Department about my unlocked iphone was stolen last week. I'm ****** off that Serial number of my stolen iphone is on another Apple ID.   IMEI still is not added into blacklist.  How can I contact to Apple Inc??

I don't understand why Austin Police are not doing to detain theft when I showed an location with valid address according Find my iPhone on icloud.com.  They said that it might be wrong location but few blocks were correct location. I stopped at Apple Retail Store to get another unlocked iphone. I explained an employee whether they would add both IMEI and serial number into blacklist to make useless for anyone. They said they have nothing to doing.
I'm shocked today that IMEI number is still not added into blacklist. Serialnumber of my stolen iphone is already on another Apple ID, after restoring it.
They let me down because unlocked iphone is EXPENSIVE, it costs $800 in Canada.
How can I deal with Apple Inc to add both serial number and IMEI into blacklist UNTIL i get my stolen iphone back

What blacklist? There is no universal blacklist in the US. They're working on it, but it does not exist as of this writing.
Apple can't do anything about it. They are not a law enforcement agency.

  • Stolen iPhone 4 and follow-up Call from Apple

    Hey guys,
My girlfriends iPhone 4 (32GB locked to Rogers) was stolen about a week and a half ago. She had Find My iPhone on it and we used it to lock and clear the phone right away, but since the phone was already turned off we were not able locate it. We get an e-mail the next day from the app saying that the lock and message were sent, which means the person who stole it probably turned it on. We still weren't able to locate the phone using the app so we just assumed they re-formatted the phone, cleared it, and logged out of iCloud. We thought end of story, we lost an iPhone, but there's nothing we could do. We go to an Apple store, tell them the phone was stolen and they proceed to use Find My iPhone to clear and lock the phone again (they say they weren't allowed to brick it and we weren't given the option to report it stolen).
Anyways, fast forward to a week later (night of Monday, Nov 5, 2012). We get a call from apple (call center 512-674-2000). The caller is Betty who works for Apple and she asks us if we have sold an iPhone on kijiji/eBay recently. We tell them that we've actually recently had the phone stolen and ask if someone's returning it. They say not quite, just that someone was tryign to contact apple with the iPhone's serial code. Unfortunately at this point the phone is very low on batter (<10%) so we ask if they can call back at another number. Betty says okay. We don't get a call back.
We call back the apple number that called us, but the call center is closed (it was around 8:15 EST). So we call the Apple Canada Hotline (we're from Toronto). The issue gets escalated to a manager and they're pretty much saying there's no notes on why the call was made. There definately has to be a reason for apple to call us asking if the phone was sold right? They tell us to call the number that called us earlier the following day to see if we can contact Betty who called us earlier. However, they do tell us that they ahve on their record that Betty called us, and prior to that, someone called with an issue about the stolen iPhone's serial code (we had not called in).
So we wait until the next day can call the 512 number. Pretty much we keep getting passed around with people telling us they can't do anything since there's no notes on the file and they can't redirect us to Betty.
My question is: There HAD to be a reason why they called us right? The phone was stolen at a friends house, where we thought we knew everybody. If we can get any information on who the original call was from maybe we can find out who stole the phone? Has anyone had a similar experience or does anyone have any advice on what to do? I'm sure apple knows something, but they are just not telling us. Sorry for the lengthy post, just wanted to get all the details out there! Thanks for any help!

But if an issue is reported using the serial code of the stolen product, could they not tell me what number it was called from?
I understand that they can't do much, but I just wanted to know the original reason why Apple called us in the first place to ask whether we sold the iphone on kijiji or eBay recently.

  • Why does Apple refuses to use the activation procedure in iTunes to block a stolen iPhone 4S

My iPhone was stolen in Buenos Aires by two, male and female, professional culprits roaming the tourist areas.
Blocked the iPhone (SIM card), filed a police report and activated "Find my iPhone".
Called Apple support with proof of ownership and asked them to put this iPhone on the blacklist in order to avoid activation on iTunes.
Thieves and people trying to buy cheap iPhone's will end up having just a heavy iPod touch. That will learn the fat bastards.
Hope Apple will soon introduce a new App; Explode my iPhone in the face of a thief.

Because Apple is not a law enforcement agency and they have no legal right to do so.

  • My iPhone 4 got stolen and it has apple protection care, will apple replace it?

My iPhone 4 got stolen and it has apple protection care, will apple replace it?

If you mean the Extended Warranty, then, no, Apple does not replace stolen or lost iPhones. If you have theft protection through other insurance, then report it to your agent. Be sure to report the theft to the police.
I would not hold your breath waiting for it to be recovered, however. Very few items like iPhones that have been stolen are ever recovered.
