Report width of 520 characters needed

Customer wants output in a plain text file where each detail line contains 520 characters. Should I attempt to find a printer driver that will allow that width, or is there another option?
Thanks.

Thanks for the printer driver advice. I installed the HP DesignJet 5500 driver, which is 60 inches wide, and now I can design the report I need and see the entire width of the report in Preview on my development pc. Now I need to go a step further and schedule the report on CR Server XI to email the report as a plain text file (again - 520 characters wide).
I installed the same printer driver on the server where CR Server XI is running. I created a 380 character witde test report in Crystal Reports on my development pc. I can design it and view it fine on my pc. When I upload to CR Server XI and schedule the report from InfoView as Plain Text, the output shown in InfoView and in the file that is emailed is truncated at 270 characters. I have tried all combinations for file formats and print settings on Infoview and CMC, and I've specified different values for characters per inch. I still end up with a 270 character wide report when trying to create a Plain Text file.
Is there a limitation of 274 characters for Plain Text file format? Do you have any suggestions for accomplishing this?
Note that I WAS able to successfully schedule and email the 380 character report successfully in Crystal Reports format and Rich Text format. For this reason, I think the printer driver definition is OK, and it is the Plain Text format that is the problem.

  • Character mode report and Report Width & Height

    Hi
I need to print a report on a pre-printed pay slip which is 4" height x 9" width.
May i know what value should i set for these parameter?
Report Level: Unit of measurement: Inch
Report Level: Design in Character Units: Yes
Layout Model, Main Section: Width: 9, Height: 4
Layout Model, Character Mode: Report Width: 132, Report Height: 24
Apps SRW driver: width: 132, height: 24
If i need to print the character with 15cpi, is the value of 24 for the height (above) correct?
What should be the value to set for Ruler Settings, character cell size: horizontal & vertical?

Could it be because A4 is actually 11.5" by 8.5" ?

In fact the ISO standard is 8.3" × 11.7". 8.5" x 11" is "Letter", which nobody uses any more.

  • Report width in report builder 6i

    Hi Experts,
I am working on report builder 6i reports. I want to increase the report width in the layout.
I click on layout, properties, i changed the width to 700 for header, body and footer section.
But when i run the report from concurrent program, it's giving error.
Error: REP-1212: Object 'Body' is not fully enclosed by its enclosing object
Could some body help me, how to fix this issue.

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply. To get rid off that error, i did the following thing.
I set the width as 132, and height as 62 of header, main body and trailer section in report builder.
In Concurrent program window also, i set the column as 132 and rows as 62, and style as BAC.
When i submit the report through concurrent program, it's working fine.
Now i changed the width of the report to 200 and height to 66.
Now, i want to change the style to A4 in concurrent program window. I don't have A4 style in list of values. I went to SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR ---> INSTALL --> PRINTER --> TYPES. (Added A4 style to all types)
Now i changed the columns to 200 and rows to 66 and style as A4.
    Now, it's showing below error.
    ERROR: APP-FND-00314:INVALID PRINTER.
Again i selected BAC style and try to submit the program, it's giving different error.
REP-1219: 'Body' has no size - length or width is zero.
Could somebody help me to solve the issue. (Why it's giving above error after adding the A4 style to all types of printers) and why did i get the previous errors (REP-1212, Body fully not enclosed).
    Kindly help me, it's urgent.
    Thanks.

how to do crystal reports in bi-7 i need  clear steps

    Hi,
    Please read the following documents.
I am sure that this is going to help you in creating crystal reports.
    Regards,
    Subha
Pls grant me points if it is found useful
    Use
The Reporting Agent allows you to precalculate BEx queries (as “useful queries”) for Crystal reports in the background. This is a device used to improve system performance when executing Crystal reports.
    Prerequisites
    ·        In the BEx Query Designer, you have defined a “useful query” for Crystal Reports and determined variables for the required characteristics.
    ·        You may want to apply a filter when precalculating this “useful query” using a control query (see “Parameter Filtering” in the section below). In this case, you need to have created an additional suitable query in the BEx Query Designer.
The associate variable must have the type “Changeable with Query Navigation”. Other variables can have any type.
    Procedure
           1.      Choose the REPORTING_AGENT transaction code.
           2.      Select Precalculating Crystal Reports Queries and choose Execute.
           3.      Navigate to the required query in the left-hand Reporting Agent Settings tree.
           4.      You have the following options for creating a new setting:
    -         Choose New Setting from the context menu.
    -         Choose  Create New Setting.
The New Reporting Agent Setting dialog box appears.
           5.      Enter a technical name and a description.
The following information is displayed on the General tab page:
    -         The functional area of the setting is Precalculation of Crystal Reports Queries.
    -         Information about the query for which you are creating a setting is shown under the Query group header (description, technical name, InfoProvider).
    -         After the setting has been saved for the first time, the system displays details of the last person who changed the setting and the time this change was made, under the Last Changed On/By group header.
    -         Under the Setting is Used in Packages group header, the system displays information about the packages in which the setting is used, and how they are scheduled. This information can only be displayed if you have defined the setting and assigned one or more scheduling packages to it.
           6.      Choose the Parameters tab page.
           7.      Determine whether precalculation of the Crystal Reports queries are to be parameterized using a filter and using variants.
For more information and recommendations for choosing parameters in a straightforward example, see Parameterizing Crystal Reports Queries Setting.
    Filtering Parameters
    No Filters
When you do not want to use a control query to precalculate variables, choose No Filter.
You can combine this option with parameterization using Variables (see below).
    Explicitly Using Query Result
If you want to use a control query when filtering, choose Explicitly Using Query Result. You can now make entries in the Control Query and Variants fields.
Specify the technical name of the control query. Input help is available. After you save your entries, the system updates the information according to your selections.
You only need to specify a variant when the control query contains input-ready mandatory variables. This does not happen very often, however.
You can combine this option with parameterization using Variables (see below).
    Parameter Variants
After making your setting for filtering a parameter, you can process variant for the individual characteristic values of the variables set in the „useful query“.
Note: The variable screen only offers such variables when they have not already been filled by the control query. (This can also include variables of type “Changeable with Query Navigation”, as long as they aren’t filled by the query).
You can choose from the following functions:
    Create a Variant
A dialog box appears in which you can choose values for the SAP variables used in the “useful query”, in the Query Selection area. Input help is available for those InfoObjects for which SAP variables have been created.
    Enter the required data.
    Choose  .
    Change Variants
    Delete Variants
If you have already created one or more variants, the system lists these in the lower part of the screen. Choose the variants you want to change or delete and choose the appropriate function.

  • Is crystal reports correct for me / my needs?

i'm wondering if crystal reports is correct for my needs.  i don't mind investing the time / money to figure this out, but i really can't waste any time so i thought i'd ask the question first
is crystal reports correct for my needs?
    some detail of my needs:
    1.  the report would be similar to an IKEA catalog: lots of pictures, different layouts (so different reports merged into one). reports need to "look bitchin'". needs to be "printer ready" in regards to size, crop lines, page numbers, etc.  my main concern here is basically "how limiting is crystal reports in data placement on the page"?
    2.  the data would come from a relatively large db (MS SQL, Oracle, mySQL, and maybe others).  size: about 40 million record main table, with supporting tables (i.e., relational). the db is not encrypted and is accessible if you have the main password.
    3.  i would like to send the reports to something like PDF, but also to excel and text file.
    4.  i would like to offer the reports to my clients as part of my own software package, so hopefully this consists of an .exe file only (no updates required, etc).
i would prefer to talk to a live person about this, or ideally see a quick demo of what is possible with crystal reports.  is this possible?

    Hello,
Pictures can be a problem, they take up a lot of report space. I assume your pictures are in the database? Large reports get very large quickly with pictures ( ole object ).
What you could do is download the trial version of CR 2008 and the sample reports:
Go to this link: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc and download the trial version of CR XI R2 and use your XI keycode, then apply the patches which you can get to by clicking on the BusinessObjects tab above, then Downloads.
Direct link to the Trial version: http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/freetrials/index.epx
I also suggest you call Sales, they can send you links for demo's etc.

    These characters being: ā Ā Ḍ ḍ Ē ē Ḥ ḥ Ī ī Ō ō Ū ū Ṣ ṣ Ṭ ṭ Ẓ ẓ ʿ ʾ
For more about these characters please see: http://www.brill.com/downloads/Simple_Arabic_transliteration.pdf

Thank you for taking the time out to reply Ellis.
I am aware of the fonts that you mentioned, but they each have a drawback for me, for example, there is no bold italic for Gentium etc.
Given the high quality of Adobe fonts I was hoping that i could find out if they have one that works.

  • How to reduce report width programatically?

    Hi All,
Iam placing around 38 filelds in report and increased the report section width in Main Section to 40. Iam using formating triggers to these 38 fields.Based on the parameters passed these fields will be displayed. some times there will be only 10 fileds in the report and remaining it shows blank space.I dont want that blank space.
"Is it possible to change that report main section width programatically?"
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi Girish,
I don't think it will be easy to adjust report width programmatically and move controls accordingly. It will be advisable to go for matrix report with format trigger to hide blank columns.

    Hi,
You can specify the Width of the Section (where you are displaying the Report) to show the report within that area.
Navigation: Page Options ==> Edit Dashboard ==>Section Properties ==> Format Section ==> Additional Formatting Options ==>Width (say =200)

  • Oracle Discoverer Desktop Report output showing unicode characters

    Hi,
Oracle Discoverer Desktop 4i version Report output showing the below unicode characters.
    kara¿ah L¿MAK HOLD¿NG A.¿
We ran the same query in sql at that time the data showing correctly.
Please let me know, is there any language settings/ NLS settings are need to set
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi
Let me give you some background. In the Windows registy, every Oracle Home has a setting called NLS_LANG. This is the variable that controls, among other things, the numeric characters and the language used. The variable is made up of 3 parts. These are:
    language_territory.characterset
Notice how there is an underscore character between the first two variables and a period between the last two. This is very important and must not be changed.
So, for example, most American settings look like this: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
The second variable, the territory, controls the default date, monetary, and numeric formats and must correspond to the name of a country. So if I wanted to use the Greek settings for numeric formatting, editing the NLS_LANG for Discoverer Desktop to this setting will do the trick:
    AMERICAN_GREECE.WE8MSWIN1252
Can you please check your settings? Here's a workflow:
    a) Open up your registry by running Regedit
    b) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE
    c) Look for the Oracle Home corresponding to where Discoverer Desktop is installed. It's probably called KEY_BIToolsHome_1
    d) Clicking on the Oracle Home will display all of the variables
    e) Take a look at the variable called NLS_LANG - if it is correct Exit the registry
    f) If its not correct please right-click on it and from the pop-up select Modify
    f) Change the variable to the right setting
    g) Click the OK button to save your change
    h) Exit the registry
    Best wishes

  • When calling report from forms, only html format report can show chinese characters

    To all experts,
When I run report by calling run_report_object() in forms, only html format can show chinese characters. If I choose pdf format, garbage characters were shown instead of chinese characters. My settings on server are as follows:
    NLS_LANG=TRADITIONAL CHINESE_HONG KONG.UTF8
    FORMS60_REPFORMAT=PDF
Do you know why? I hope to print report in PDF format as PDF turned out to be more regular in format. Is there any additional settings required?
May experts here broaden my mind?
    Richard

You have two different ways of generating Japanese PDF files from Reoprts. One is font aliasing and the other is font subsetting.
    <font aliasing>
You will need to have the following entries in uiprint.txt (example).
    [ PDF ]
    .....JA16SJIS = "KozMinPro-Regular-Acro"
    "MS UI Gothic".....JA16SJIS = "KozMinPro-Regular-Acro"
You may need to download and install Japanese Font Pack from Adobe's web site (if your Acrobat is non-Japanese version).
    <font subsetting>
You will need to add C:\WINNT\Fonts (or wherever your TTF/TTC fonts are installed) to your REPORTS_PATH.
You will also need to have the following entries in uiprint.txt (example).
    [ PDF:Subset ]
    "Andale Duospace WT J" = "Aduoj.ttf"
    "Albany WT J"="AlbanWTJ.ttf"
    "MS UI Gothic" = "msgothic.ttc"

  • Report not displaying certain characters

I've got a report that needs to display a list of names. Some of the names have characters like "." or "-" or "\", when I run the report it gives me the names without those characters.
    Whats up ?

    Thanks Don,
I decided to try another approach, and created a SQL Scrapbook with the following SQL:
    SELECT USERENV ('language') FROM DUAL;
Now the result I get when running the same SQL using the exact same conneciton details on SQL*Plus Worksheet is:
    ENGLISH_UNITED KINGDOM.EE8ISO8859P2
but if I run it through Eclipse and SQL Scrapbook I get the result:
    POLISH_POLAND.EE8ISO8859P2
Dont know if that gives anyone some ideas, I will see what my DBA thinks if I can get hold of him.

  • How to generate reports 10g in chinese characters pdf/html (10g)

    Hi,
we have installed Oracle AS 10g (9.0.4.1) on an windows 2000 server.
    The nls_lang=American_america.UTF8
the database server 10g with characterset utf8
The chinese font used is the simsun (simsun.ttf) semplified chinese.
We have no problem with the forms and the database (we have prompt in chinese and we store data in chinese and we view the forms with the jnitiator.
Our problem are the reports: we can't view chinese characters in pdf reports or html
We have readen a lot of topics (very confused..) and we have tryed a lot of solutions but without success.
    In particolar, the last:
in the uifont.ali under the pdf subset section we have mapped the simsun font with the file arialuni.ttf
    simsun="arialuni.ttf"
We have installed the arial unicode ms (arialuni.ttf) on the server and also on the client.
we have put the file arialuni.ttf also in a directory of the report path.
    But it doesn't work.
    What can we do ?
    Regards

I agree with Phillip. Looks li ke you've got everything else setup properly, but you should use a Unicode font in your report instead of simsun. If you really want to use Simsun, then change your report server NLS parameter to use something like NLS_LANG=SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.ZHS16GBK or even NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.ZHS16GBK, and remove the reference to arialuni.ttf. By making your report server use UTF8, it requires that you use a Unicode font. If you change your NLS to a Chinese character set, sqlnet will do the conversion for you automatically and transparently, and you can use simsun
The subset feature is what allows you to see the PDF properly on machines that don't already have the font installed. If your target users are internal and you can control them, or external and all likely to have the font already, you don't need the subsetting at all.
