Reporting a fault
It seems even more difficult to talk to someone re problems with a phone line, when you do eventually get through the maze of options, make sure you remember them all or you could find yourself down the wrong rabbit hole. However, once successfully through to a person, it seems that the problem is for you to fix by doing all sorts of technical things - why do I pay so much money to BT every month, it's certainly not for the quick and effective service. Since agreeing to send an engineer I have bent sent repeated texts suggesting that I fix the fault

They are asking you to do some checks to ensure that the problem is not on your side of the Master socket. If it is on your side , extensions, filters, handset etc the you would be liable for a hefty charge. Then you would start complaining about it.

How do I report a fault if my phone is not working...
How do I report a fault if my land line phone is not working? The BT website seems to assume that at the very least the broadband line is working but this is often not the case. Please could you make it crystal clear what phone number to call to report a fault? (e.g. if calling from a friend's phone or a mobile).

Can you report a fault based on errors ?
I seem to have a lot of errors on my broadband line and I was expecting a speed increase when I 'upgraded' to the up nto 20Mbps service but the sync speed has actually dropped slightly. I have used the test socket etc and checked out all internal wiring. The line seems to be noise free having done a quiet line test. It seems very intermittent - the errors come in bursts so I guess I could have missed 'noise'.
The question is can I report a fault based on the errors shown on the router and perhaps more importantly will BT do anything about it?
Any advice /comments welcome
Thanks

Thanks Imjolly - The results did not change when I connected to the test socket but that was only for a few minutes. How long should I be connected to the test socket? Does it really matter now as I now have a ADSL faceplate connected so i am effectively connected directly am I not.? If you think its worth connecting direct to the test socket for a longer period then I will try that.
With the adsl faceplate there is no real point in connecting to the test socket
From what you say it would appear that I could not report a fault as such with the error rate I am getting.
No
Here's another question then - Should I expect an increase in download speed when upgrading from up to 8mbps to up to 20 mbps?? it seems odd to me that I have actually dropped my sync speed .
Your noise margin may still drop to round about 6 which I would hope will increase your down sync. There are quite a few posts on the forum of people upgrading to 21CN and not getting any increase or in some cases a decrease in down speed
Thanks again

Download failure - how do I report a fault?
I bought a couple of albums this morning. The first downloaded without any problems. The second (Pure by Hayley Westenra) kept crashing iTUNES. It would download three tracks then would crash at the processing stage. I reloaded and repeated the download attempts and it was looking like they had been downloaded. The iTunes store seems to think so too as they are no longer listed for download, but I cant fnd them in iTunes. I tried clicking the report a problem button in My Account downloads section but nothing happened other than the button disappearing. Any suggestions on what I do now?

What's the best way to report a fault?
How exactly do you report it? Is there a particular method or should I just send them an email or, something? I've found for instance on BT.com a link to "diagnostics.bt.com" that claims it'll solve my connectivity issues but when I try and use it, it just says I don't appear to be using a Home Hub (which is correct, I have a HH5 but I don't use it, I connect using an Openreach HG612 modem and my own 7800DXL router). I'm just wondering if I connect my HH5 up so this particular test will actually work, will it just faff around giving me troubleshooting tips or just say "there doesn't appear to be anything wrong so sod off" message or will it give me the choice of reporting a fault.
I've done a speed test on the wholesale website and that was inconclusive or didn't think anything was wrong (there clearly is, my connection was fine right up until mid March when it started to become unstable and it's dropping regularly ever since and has caused my speed to droped from 37mbit to below 27mbit). I did pos ton here about the issue actually but that didn't really confirm anything, think general consensus was I have a fault somewhere.
Cheers for any help.

Reporting Phone Fault - Infinity Customer
Hi,
I have been a BT phone customer for 20 years and in December 2014 I upgraded to also include BT fibre broadband. So I now have BT Phone and BT Infinity.
Today, I noticed that my telephone line was very noisy. So, I tried to test my telephone line using BT’s automated line testing feature from the website. However, I soon realised that this feature is only for copper line customers. Then I rang BT to report the fault today at 14:55. To my surprise I was told that there is no one available in the relevant department to help me and that someone will have to contact me back tomorrow. I am concerned by my experience today. I am wondering whether there is an alternative process for Infinity customers to diagnose/report telephone related problems.

Thanks. I have FTTP (there is no FTTC option for my area).
Its interesting that there is a noise issue. Have you tried a different phone?
I guess there is no way to restart the voice adapter part, just in case its somehow out of synch, and giving a high bit error rate?
Do you have any extension wiring that may be causing the issue?
I assume you have Fibre Voice Access, and not copper for your phone connection? If so, there would be a fibre voice adapter.

How do I report a fault with my home line?
Just thought this was as good a place as any for this little tidbit: if you're having problems with your phone line service like not being able to make or receive calls, or your line is crackly and drops out the people you need to talk are our Fixed Line Faults team on 132203. However sometimes the phone isn't convenient for you. That's why we also have our https://go.telstra.com.au/helpandsupport/-/reporting-a-fault-with-your-home-phone-line
Using that form, we can identify a number of common faults and if it's required we'll ask you to fill out some details so we can call you back. Of course if your problem doesn't fall into any of the categories on the form then your best bet is to give us a call on 132203 and talk to someone to work out exactly what's going on with you over the phone.
I hope this helps, and if you have any thoughts about this or think I've left anything out feel free to comment away!
-DylanHi, Phone lines been reported as down again. Sigh... I think we're up to the fifth time in the last 30 days that it's gone down... (Stopped counting the number of times over the last three months). Haven't even reported the times that one of us has got up in the middle of the night as the hands free set's been beeping registering a lack of dial tone. Sometimes it's back up again by break of day, othertimes - not so much. Bit over it really, wish Telstra would just fork out for whatever piece of equipment up at the main road branch pegs out whenever we've had more than an inch of rain. You get that a bit in the tropics. Airlie Beach has spectacularly bad phone service and roads.... As you're meant to phone and report on 132203 if the lines been reported as faulty in the last 30 days, I've spent way too much time on that number. I've actually just had that number on speakerphone on the mobile for the last five minutes. I've almost given up reporting line faults, have Telstra given up answering them too?? I've never been a conspiracy theorist, but are you lot trying to get us all to move to Skype and mobile?? Does Telstra own Skype shares?? Is there such a thing as Skype shares??? Whatever... Could you just fix the line already???

How can i actually REPORT a fault rather than be t...
Hi Folks,
Ive got quite a poor line here, with a lot of noise, occassionally I can hear other conversations and its VERY faint most of the time - so much so I sometimes have to use redial with my mobile just to hear the other person.
(Also to note my SNR on infinity drops to from roughly 6db to <0.5db over about 8 hours..... and then disconnects)
Ive had the line from master socket to pole replaced in the last few years, but at the time the engineer said "the underground cables round here are shocking - they need replacing".
I simply want BT to sort my line!!! I dont even mind PAYING for some new cable to the cab - its about 500 meters, ar at least paying towards it.....
I'd like to know what I can do - who I should contact etc.
Ive used the online 'fault report' and that just comes back with 'no fault found'.....
If i'm at fault (which seems unlikely since im running of a BT installed Master socket, on a newish wire, with no extensions....) then I don't even mind paying the call out fee.
I just want a good quality line and i'm banging my head against a brick wall....
your advice would so greatfully be accepted!!
Best Wishes

When i questioned this and telling the very confused heldp desk woman the internet connection worked fine and it was just HH3 wireless failing was told no we need to reboot your openreach modem !
I have swapped my HH3 and used a Dlink router the connection was up for 5 days yet BT help line say its openreach modem!
To sum up my main issues are ;
1. no response from BT for a week !
2. incorrect advice from help desk who cannot understand why a modem is not related to wireless on a router !

Can someone PLEASE help me report a fault??
Quick history. Phone and infinity went down 3pm yesterday. Disconnected all internal wiring and tested from the test socket on the NTE with a known dood corded handset and got no dial tone, just lots of hissing and cracking. Most likely damp in the works somewhere (underground feed).
Called 151 yesterday. Was not able to persuade the chap on the phone that there was a fault - automated testing said it was my wiring. He would not believe otherwise. He reluctantly offer to make an appt for an engineer to have a look, and offered Jan 8th. I said that's not good enough. My wife has end-stage liver disease and is in constant contact with various medical people (we missed and appt this morning because the district nurse couldn't get hold of us). She has 8 appts in the next ten days, and I often have to leave her alone while I'm out. We need the phone fixed asap. He disregarded all of that so I asked for escalation. He told me a manger would call withing 30 minutes and said the manager would say no different. The call never came.
About 7pm called 151 again. Operator claimed manager had called me - he hadn't. Operator offered no further help other than to promise another manager would call me between 10am and noon today. Operator also disregarded my wifes health and told me she would not prioritise the call.
Needless to say the manager didn't call today.
I have just tried calling 151 again, and the system now tells me I'm not a BT customer and cuts me off. The fault tracker on the website tells me I have an internal wiring fault and suggests I call 151 if I think otherwise.
I'm just about ready to lose my rag. Does anyone know how I can proceed now?Hi duncanreed

Thread 8 is the thread that is crashing and that thread shows its happening between your audio driver and a plugin... so,
It looks like it is crashing when trying to process one of your 3rd party plugins.... so that's what i would take a look at first.. Update what you are using to later versions if appropriate.. and make sure you are not running low or out memory given you have several copies of Kontakt 5 running at the same time...
That or.. in thread 6.... you are running Rewire in the background...and that looks a little weird as its coming up as an unregistered process..... (typically rewire is one cause of instability under certain circumstances..)
Also 9.1.3 wasn't the most stable of the LP9 releases.. With 10.6.8, LP9.1.5 is the most stable combination I've found.... -
Reported noise fault........
Below is the note I attached when I raised the fault:-
I have disconnected everything in my house and tested at the end of the dropwire out to line and the noise fault still exists. Some engineers were working in my local cab last week and the problem has arisen from then! This is causing my broadband to constantly drop out and only connect at 1meg down from 11. (It’s now less than a meg)
I received a call at 08:00 pm on Saturday night, from India regarding my fault, the person who rang me stated they needed to arrange an appointment as the fault may be in the house. I asked if they had read my note when I raised the fault they said they had. I then asked why it was necessary for a visit when the fault is outside the house. I explained that I was not happy at having to take time off when the fault was external nds as I, it is not always convenient due to the nature of my job to get leave at short notice. I was then told to take down a web address to which I explained that I was at a Bonfire party in my garden and it was not convenient. I asked could they email me the address to which I was informed they did not have my mail address. Unfortunately due to the noise fault deteriorating the call dropped out and I was not contacted back. My raised fault has not been updated on the website so my wife contacted BT faults on her mobile last night 06/11/12, she was told they were very busy and they would call her back. They called back after an hour and put her on hold twice and eventually put the phone down without dealing with anything. Needless to say they have not called back.
No wonder I constantly hear people slating this company and. At the time of writing no one re contacted my wife; the web fault has not been updated and I have received no emails. Mind you they have not got my mail address have they?Hi
The engineer normally requires access so he can attach his test equipment at the main socket, by doing this they can (not always) get a distancemeasurment to where the fault is located.
The fault may even be in the dropwire down the front of your property, if it is they will require access to renew the complete length of cable from the pole.

Web fault reporting doesn't work
My phone line was tested and it came back as working but it isn't. I have removed all extensions and tested with 2 different phones at the master socket and a fault still occurs. The line works after a fashion but doesn't ring properly and also sometimes loses the incoming phone number information. Broadband is ok.
But the BT web site won't allow me to report it because the line was tested as ok but I know it isn't. This is a failure of customer service.
Also this link doesn't work (I am using Mozilla Firefox not Internet Explorer but this shouldn't make a difference)
https://www.bt.com/consumerFaultTracking/public/faults/reporting.do?pageId=21&s_cid=con_FURL_faults
So I can't use the web site to report the fault and I had to call an 0800 number with a mobile.
Not good. The website is working fine from your link posted also you can call BT from this number From a mobile: 0330 123 4151 the charge for this call will come from you mobile calling plan

Fault reporting and customer service very poor.
Hi,
Long story short.....
I had infinity 2 installed in September and enjoyed speeds and I.P profile of 70-74mbps until November, since then my speeds and I.P profile has been dropping slowly until it reached 55mbps a few weeks ago.....thinking is was a problem with my equipment I replaced everything piece by piece over time (erthernet cables ,faceplate and hub from HH4 to HH5 & even my P.C) when this did not work I contacted BT at the beginning of this month to report a fault only to be told "55mbps is within acceptable limits and my online gaming would not need anywhere those speeds and no fault would be logged".........to say I was very angry was an understatement however I accepted this and continued to monitor the speeds........they still continued to drop.
I next rang BT 14th of this month and after the usual rounds of hoop jumping, questions and diagnostics a line fault was "magically" detected and a fault reluctantly reported by the staff (after pushing the issue) and a VOL number given for it......the fault report was closed yesterday, 24 hours after the fault was reported as fixed my speeds and I.P profile have dropped further (now 38mbs) giving me the impression they actually never fixed the fault and just closed it down hoping I would not notice.
Another phonecall today to the call centre and more of the same questions and diagnostics the same line fault is still being detected by them and have started another fault report with another round of "we will be monitoring the line for a few days and we will call you back"
I'm exceptionally annoyed with this level of service.....my house is less than 200 feet from the infinity cabinet and the copper overhead line goes direct to the junction box next to it, the BT DSL checker website states that even on the impacted "Range B" stats I should get 71/17 and they are don't seem that bothered that I'm getting 38/7 and for a third time want to "monitor the line"
Is this the norm for BT of the level of service towards it's customers?
If I was not locked into an 18 month contract with B.T I would have gone elsewhere by now.
Please note....
Although I have ranted thoughout this entry to the forum and I understand this is not a complaints area that B.T monitor I conducted my calls to the call centre staff with respect to them (not raising my voice or loosing my temper).....I do not believe in shooting the messengers.Hi old-Nick,
