Reporting Abuse

Hi Guys!
Sometimes, when you are broswing the boards here you might come across a thread or post that you are not sure of. Sometimes, it could be a post you find offensive, or a post that is directly offensive to you. Sometimes you may come across a post that you feel contains illegal material or links to illegal material. If you do find a post like this you can report it as abuse.
This may be a feature you have seen and used before, on Nokia Discussions UK you can report any post as abuse. By reporting a post as abuse, all of the moderators and administrators get notified at once (there are quite a few of us ).
You can report a post as abuse by clicking on the options button. Here you will see an option called 'Report as abuse to Moderator'. By cliking on this a small window will open that gives you an opportunity to enter a message explaining why you are reporting this as abuse. To send the abuse notification, just click on the 'Notify Moderator' button. Dont worry that it only says Moderator, all the mods and admins will see the message at the same time. Also, reporting abuse is totally anonymous, no one other than the mods and admins will see your abuse report.
Abuse can be many things, it can include:
-Abuse directed at you
-Abusive behaviour/language
-Possible illegal content
-Bullying
Do not feel afraid of reporting abuse to us.
However, on a lighter and more positive note - you can always praise the boards on the Ideas and Feedback board you can also leave any comments you have on abuse reporting there.
Cheers
Karim

as suggested above, you can contact your local police to report such users.  Then your local police can contact Skype to request information that may possible help them in their investigation.
IF YOU FOUND OUR POST USEFUL THEN PLEASE GIVE "KUDOS". IF IT HELPED TO FIX YOUR ISSUE PLEASE MARK IT AS A "SOLUTION" TO HELP OTHERS. THANKS!

  • The report abuse icon

    Hey Mods
can the "report abuse" icon be used to report very elementary questions that have been asked several times in the past and are only a simple search away?
no matter how many times we say, people just post these baby questions and expect us to spend our time searching and replying
    Thanx

  • Report abuse against a specific user instead of just individual posts

Is it possible to implement a "Report Abuse" link against users instead of just individual postings?  It would help in some places to stop people who post vast numbers of interview questions or such like across the forums.
    Gareth.

    Hi
I have read and browsed through SDN and it is clearly evident that the volume of posts herein are redundant and genuine concerns are left unresolved. Moreover, the time spent in searching is a complete waste.
I have been a member of a few technical forums and would like to contribute my suggesstion:
    1. SDN should be largely moderated and instant posting into the forum need not be allowed.
Experts / moderators in respective areas of the forum should actually decide if a post is genuine or it is a point stealer. I am not sure if this is in practice so please disregard if i am iterating.
    2. The points system need not be a part of forum questions anymore as it is clearly misused (answers are either links or huge codes with no explanation????? we have google, thank you !!! ), only articles, blogs n wiki writers should actually be credited with points for their contribution.
Perhaps my approach is at a very root level and needs amendments which are not easy but i feel, to get meaningful solutions some changes needs to be made else the very essence of sdn is lost.
well when u gotta kick ***.... its better to JUST DO IT.
    Thank you guys

  • The Report Abuse Function

Has anyone else had trouble with the Report Abuse function?
Recently I attempted to write an abuse report, but received an error message upon submission.
How does one report abuse in this forum?
    Roddy

Questions usually remain unanswered if no one knows the answer. It would appear that you are the only person who has felt it necessary to use the Report Abuse button in this forum. If that's the case, no one can verify whether there's a problem.
Thank you for responding, but I disagree with your suggested solution to the problem:
This question can be easily answered by anyone, who might be inclined to seek a moderator's support either now or in the future.  They have merely to
    1) Click on the appropriate button.
    2) Enter a brief test message.
    3) Verify whether it is sent.
    4) Report their finding to this discussion.
I have now tried to send three messages using the Report Abuse function.  Two of them failed outright, and the only test message sent went through unacknowledged.
Before I register a formal complaint with Adobe I would like to gather evidence to support my case.

  • Loophole:no Report Abuse message in the OP of a thread

Here's a loophole:  This original post could contain abuse or spam, yet there is no Report Abuse button to report it.
I noticed it when I was contemplating reporting what looked like self promotion aimed at directing traffic to the poster's YouTube videos in a post in the Photography forum.

  • Where do we report abuse and harassment through forum Private Messages?

Where do we report abuse and sociopathological harassment received through forum Private Messages?

    S.D.A. wrote:
And all you do is repeat ad nauseum how bad the forums are.
For the most part yeah, guess so. Which is pretty much 50%+ of the other posts here, your point being?
Since you're bizzarely concerned about how I spend my time here outside of this forum, most of it is now reading.  Not that it's any of your business... I've assisted people plenty before but not much since they jived the forums up.
I understood what you were trying to say. My main 'point' was that you hypocritically think you can make personal accusations of someone (in this thread above) being a sociopath without any sort of evidence or backing whatsoever and you see no problem with that, yet if others state a (much less offensive) opinion without full character references and footnotes you flip out on them and call them names.  There's a correct way to call a statement someone makes into question when you think it's wrong, without being insulting or condescending, and there's the a-hole way--you prefer the latter.
The other point was that you only seem to attack people on this forum.  Since this is not a Social Flaming Network, could you stop that?  There's a difference between goofing off like 90% of the other people here and launching personal attacks towards others.  Didn't your momma teach you some manners when you were little?

  • How do I report abuse on FaceTime?

My daughter received repeated messages from the boyfriend of a 'friend' telling her to commit suicide and hurry up about it.  As my daughter has a history f self harm and suicide attempt as a result of mental ill health due to sexual assault when she was thirteen, and as this fact was know to this young man when he sent the messages, I would like to know how Apple responds to this kind of online abuse.  Apart from blocking the ex-friend and telling the schools, which we have done.

Suggest you report to the police.

  • Reporting abuse on Skype's main email address is no longer valid. How can I report now?

Today, I tried to report my case on [e-mail removed for privacy and security] but an automated reply was sent to me from microsoft saying: "Thanks for contacting Skype. This email message cannot be delivered because the email address is no longer valid. For support please click here" I clicked the link, it redirected me to http;//www.support.skype.com. When I browsed it, I came to this page: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1170/how-do-i-contact-skype-customer-service I clicked the "support request page" and it doesn't work. Instead, I was redirected to this link: http://support2.microsoft.com/common/errors/ServerGeneric.htm saying: The page you were looking for is currently not available. The address may not be correct, or there may be a temporary problem with this site. Please try one of the following options:Check the address for typing errors.Click the Back button and try a different option from the navigation menu.Try this page again later.I am really desperate to report that someone is using my name on Skype and I know who he is because he sent me a message and tried to add me. Now, I am using a new Skype account so he can't bother me anymore. If anyone can help me, please don't hesitate to shoot a comment here.

Hi, sleepyberry, and welcome to the Community, Adding my work-around instructions here, as well, not realizing you had posted a similar question on another thread (topic).   Yes, Skype no longer uses generic or central e-mail addresses for its customer service and support; Skype now uses a web-form format instead.  Skype is aware of lingering website issues that can occur when people attempt to contact Skype Customer Service. Temporarily enabling scripts, pop-up dialog boxes, and disabling plug-ins which could prohibit pop-ups may help get past website problems. Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
If you still experience difficulty reaching Skype Customer Service or find yourself redirected back to the Community, please try again using a different web browser and choosing a different path through the various drop-down menu options presented.
Also, look to approve a pop-up dialogue box which would connect you to start an instant message chat with a customer service agent. If you have pop-ups blocked in your browser settings, this will also block reaching an agent.
Last and not least, when you reach the last step of the process, remember to click on the "Start Chat" link when you are provided the choice of visiting the Community or starting an instant message chat with a customer service agent.
    Regards,
    Elaine

  • When is it appropriate to "report abuse"

Some of the threads I've been reading seem to be way over the top when it comes to civility.  Support is here to do just that, support, not trash. Especially when it comes to trash talking to some of the members that can help the most. Believe me, the Support Community would not be the same if the most knowledgable members walked away because of the community atmosphere.  If a good definition of abuse can be established in my mind, I'll be using the feature more in the future and I encourage others to do the same when appropriate. Also remember if you have a gripe with Apple, the proper Forum is via Apple Feedback, not here.

Generally, whenever the concept of equality is really meaningful for objects of the class.
But if you do override one, you should definitely do both, and in a consistent way. The requirement is that if equals() returns true for two objects hashCode() must return the same number for both object. hashCode is used in HashMap, HashSets etc. to place entries in "buckets" so that a search can go to the correct bucket immediately, hence a HashMap will not work correctly if the hashCodes do not match.

Skype doesn't verify email address when creating an account, that is why a user can register anybody's email address even those that are non -existing.  Report that user to [email protected], then request to have your email address unlinked from that unrecognized account.

  • How do I report abuse on an App Store review?

I posted a review on an app a week or so ago, and then the other day somebody else has reviewed the app (very unfairly, in my eyes) and, as opposed to reviewing the actual app itself and its content, has gone on to personally insult myself and another reviewer. I find this disgusting and would like to report the user, but I have no idea how to go about this. Any ideas?

Go to the app store and find the app in question. Click on the "Ratings and Reviews" for the app and find the offensive review. To the right you will see the "Was this review helpful?  Yes | No | Report a Concern " dialog. Click on "Report a Concern" and state your objections. Your objections will be reviewed by an app store representative and appropriate action will be taken if deemed necessary. The moderators of the app sotre reviews do remove things from time to time but it has to be really bad, freedom of opinion and all that.
    Good luck.
p.s. I must advise you that you should do this by accessing the app store with iTunes ON YOUR COMPUTER, not your iOS device. The reporting option does not appear otherwise.

  • How Many Points Do I Need Before I Can Report Abuse?

I noticed a thread was removed yesterday because it mentioned a bad JB had caused issues and we all know that hacking Apple iPhones and iPads can't be discussed here, however I was about to explain to this person that they should restore their phone to original factory condition using iTunes and forget about the JB when it was yanked.
When I posted a complaint my thread got yanked presumably simply because it mentioned the dreaded JB word.
I wouldn't mind so much but doing a forums search using that word produces at least 2 pages of threads that have been left intact, many of them in Enterprise and stretching back over quite a long period of time, so I feel that someone is acting in rather an arbitrary manner and not reading the posts before yanking them.
I shall await the yanking of this thread but I tell you, as a veteran poster in many security-related forums, I do know the meaning of the expression acceptable behaviour.

I think it's more a question of way too little time. This is a VERY busy forum. The Hosts can't possibly read every post as well as deal with all the maintenance, answer questions. I don't know if you saw my answer to you in your other thread. Several Hosts have said that moderation is more of an art than a science. They try to balance a the TOU against a lively exchange of ideas (and sometimes, it gets very lively!). They are also human. Sometimes one host will have a different take on a post than another. Sometimes, deaicions are changed and threads get reinstated.
Whether threads are left open also depends on timing. I don't spend much time in the Mac forums these days nut I'd bet that the Hosts are being a bit more lenient about somethings because of the recent release of Lion. They tend to allow posts that are a bit closer to rants when there has been a big release because, well, some people are freaking out.
It's never going to be completely consistent. However, every Host I've ever interacted with has seemed to be trying very hard to make this a useful, and yes, even fun place.
If you have a concern, post it here and it will get sorted out.
    Best of luck.
I moderate McAfee and Neosmart forums, so I know what you mean.
    Thanks.
