Reporting Crashes to Apple

I've had too many "application quit unexpectedly's" recently even though I have followed through on performing many of the suggestions made in the forum, and each time I complete the popup report about it and submit to Apple. What actually happens to these reports when Apple receives them? Does it ever result in resolution of the problem the individual mac owner is having? Thanks. I guess another question might be " is it advisable to keep submitting the reports to Apple" ?

Such reports go to the Apple engineers. However, they are only going to be dealt with if they have something to do with a security issue. Otherwise, nothing will happen on a now obsolete version of OS X.
Your problem can be resolved by simply reinstalling OS X and your third-party applications on a freshly reformatted hard drive. It also would be a good idea to upgrade to a more recent version of OS X such as Tiger or Leopard, both of which will run on your computer (although you should consider adding more RAM.)

Down loaded Beta drivers from HP for C3100 series printers. This fixed printing problem as my C3100 series printer was immediately recognized. However, scanner is sill not functional. Controls in scan program are no longer grayed out, however, I get the the message "scanner can not be initialized"

I just tried downloading "HPInstaller_OJ6300v9.7beta.dmg 1/1 (191.75M)" for my HP Officejet 6310 All-In-One. Its the full feature software and drivers so I can use all the functionality of the priner/scanner/copier/fax. I tried installing the application and crashed my computer. I tried to start up and my machine wouldn't go past the spinning thinga-majig. I tried everything and ended up having to erase and restore my entire system from one of my Time Machine backups. Thank God for Time Machine, though. Hope HP fixes these Software/Driver downloads. All was well before with OS Tiger...argh.

Report Crash keeps poking up

Heyo,
I have been experiencing some performance issues with my 1.5 year old MBP. After some digging i uncovered that what is happening is that the process "report crash" keeps poking up in the activity monitor every few seconds, gobbling up as much CPU as it can, and then going away. Only return a few seconds later. Totally stupid.
Google tried its best to be helpful, but all it could come up with was to delete the "com.apple.systempreferences.plist" from the library and reboot, which i did just now. And now I am looking at my freshly re-booted activity monitor and there is that report crash popping in and out, in and out.
Any thoughts on resolving this once and for all? Anything OTHER than re-installing Leopard (which is the only other coherent advice I have via google).

I should also add that I have managed to grab a "sample" of the process via activity monitor, if that is of any use. I would post it, but it is several hundred lines long.

Why does the process Report Crash stay active and take up over 100% of the CPU?

In addition to window-server taking an inordinate amount of CPU, I am seeing that the process "Report Crash" is sucking up 102% of the CPU and occasionally goes down to 90%. ***? What IS Apple doing these days? Their products are getting worse and worse!

Select that process and kill it in Activity Monitor, see if it comes back.

Mountain Lion update crashing my "Apple Mail"

I just yesterday updated my relatively new MacBook Pro I have owned for 7-months from Lion to Mountain Lion. In the last 24-hours, my Apple Mail has crashed after installing Mountain Lion. Clearly, we have a serious bug in the Mountain Lion. I have sent each crash report to Apple and am confident they will jump on this and patch it quickly ( I hope !!!).
I am wondering if anyone else has found bugs similair to mine where you "Apple Mail" crashes for no reason after you have upgraded to Mountain Lion. Please share with me your experience.
I am also interested in any other bugs you have discovered in Mountain Lion. Lastly, please remember to report any and all crashes to Apple so they can get ontop of these bugs.
PS: Dispite my crashes on Apple Mountain Lion, there are many cool features I like about it. Meaning, I am not here lambasting Apple's Mountain Lion. This is all part of the process of releasing new software. Rarely, are they released 100% perfect and they end up relying on users like us to help them ferret out the many little bugs that need to be identified and squashed.

IPhoto Freezing up. How to report this to Apple?

I am experiencing freezing issues with iPhoto and have all the latest firmware updates installed. I edit hundreds of photos in my library daily. Several times during this process, iPhoto freezes up, and the little rainbow ball just keeps spinning, and I am unable to do anything. I never get the "error" message with the option to report it to Apple. How to I manually report this to Apple? I do not need one on one service, and I am out of my 90-day period anyway. I only know of a way to report problems with iTunes. How does an iPhoto user report problems?

Happens when an app crashes. I doubt that any human reads those reports, but my guess is that they are datamined, so I don't think doing that will find you a quick solution
Why not try here for help.
How big is your HD? How much free space on it? How big is your library? What Mac are you on? How much RAM do you have? Are you editing RAW or jpeg?

Firefox will no open at all it just bounces on the dock a few times and does nothing. Also the crash reporter crashes.

I recieved a scam email from apple. then sent me the same email using my own email account. how do I report this to apple. can't find any contact details.

hi over the past month have received maybe 5 scam emails from apple.
I opened one the other day cause I thought well maybe it is from apple.
went through the steps and it was amazed at how well they did at copying apple website. you could even go to the apple shop page from their page!
what set me off that it was fake was that I tried to open the other apple pages along the top and it wouldn't let me. so I opened my own apple page and logged in. and realised that they don't ask for your bank details in your Apple ID account.
anyways so now what has happened is I got an email today " from myself" with this same scam email. it is as if they have hacked my email account and sending me these emails. I want to report this to apple but am unable to find any contact details apart from call back options. does any one have any advice on this.

I've had that same exact issue, I received the first e-mail claiming to be from Apple last night (though over the past week I've received two other scam e-mails from different addresses claiming that my bank transactions have been aborted). It said it was from my own address, and I checked it closely to make sure it wasn't a spoof account but found it was indeed my own e-mail address. Five minutes ago I changed my password, and I have just now received a second e-mail exactly the same, still coming from my own account. My best guess at an explanation is that it may have been sent before I changed my password and there was just a delay in the message sending, resulting in it coming through after changing my password.
I've now forwarded the e-mail on as an attachment to the [email protected] address, however this still doesn't help me with regards to stopping these e-mails. It concerns me that even though I changed my password they still possibly have access to my account. I tried checking my account activity but as opening the mail app on my iPhone is considered as a log in and I check it almost twice an hour, it's impossible to tell which could possible be an intruder logging in.

Problem Statement : When the user is trying to generate report for Stock variance report from Oracle Retail Merchandising System the report crashes with error code REP-56048.
The steps to reproduce are specific to Oracle Retail Merchandising system application and hence I have not mentioned here.
The REP-56048 error seems to be generic. Could you please advise me on this issue.

Report crashes, seems to be because of "Keep together"? (Crystal Report 9)

We have a report that crashes when run on Crystal Reports 9. It only crashes when "something" on the page hits a limit, as if we remove one line from the data, it does not crash, and if we add one line, it does not crash.
We fixed a very similar report by removed "Keep Together" on a field, but this was not ticked for this field on this report. However, there are other fields that have Keep Together ticked, but they are supposed to keep together too...
I found this defect, and was wondering if this is present in 9 too (seeing as it's fixed in 10)? This says "Report Designer", but I guess it's meant that the report crashes when run??

Hello,
The issue described in ADAPT00258586 covers CR8.5, CR9 and CR10. [Note 1217122 - CR 8.5 shuts down when a text object goes over 2 pages with Keep Together set|https://bosap-support.wdf.sap.corp/sap/support/notes/0001217122] discusses the different fixes that need to be applied for each version of Crystal Reports.
If you're seeing the issue in Crystal Reports itself (the designer) then you want to apply the "Main" patch. If you're seeing the issue at runtime in a VB6 application that uses the RDC then you'll want to apply the "Developer" patch.
You can find the "Developer" patch at the link listed in the Note since it still works:

You'll have to search for the "Main" patch since that link in the Note no longer works.

Set the filters to Crystal Reports > Crystal Reports 9 > Hot Fix or Service Pack. Any of the later "cr90devwin_en" patches should have the fix, as should the later service packs. The [readme|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/sapidp/012002523100005987162008E/cr90mainwin_en.pdf] for [this version of the Main patch|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/sapidp/012002523100005987172008E/cr90mainwin_en.zip] shows that ADAPT00258586 was listed as being resolved, so it should work in resolving the issue.
Since the patch date is listed as being from 2004 it's also likely that some of the later Service Packs will pick up this fix as well. You can search on the same Software Download page for Service Packs if you want to test those as well.

Firefox crashes upon open - won't send crash report; crash report info summarized below

I have one computer that crash every time I start Firefox. Ocassionally the firefox window will appear for less than a second and then the Crash Report Window shows up; most times it goes right to Crash Report Window. Then it is for some reason unable to send the crash repor; it keeps looping back to the crash report. I've checked my modem and router are operating correctly; I have another computer that's working fine. I've run scan for Trojans, viruses and still see the problem. Any help would be very much appreciated as I'm stuck at this point. For what it's worth, Internet Explorer has the same problem, crashing upon opening.

Hello. I have a similar problem to the question of Ryan Vaught, (Firefox crashes upon open - won't send crash report; crash report info summarized below [MY] Firefox version: prior one to 3.6.7 Operating System: Windows XP Provessional). Mine is a bit different tho. Firefox seems to be crashing and my internet crashes right with it. When it does this, it also takes out some Win32 system .exe files. I too have ran AVG (Full Coverage /Purchased one) and then updated to Viper (Sunbelt Software) and it comes up clean of any viruses, etc. Once it crashes and I close Firefox, the crash report request comes up. When I hit send, it says it cannot be sent with no additional information as to why. I just updated Firefox to 3.6.7 and sure hope this helps, but it almost always happens when I am playing games that use flash. I can send a screenshot if you need it and feel free to edit my question if need be. I've checked my Viper settings and can get to all the websites so far trying to rule it out. Deleted my internet set up and then added it back as a new connection (hope that made sense), so I don't know who to be asking this question of, but hoping you may know the answer why I can't send the crash report. This is compounded actually by a Gmail issue. I have had this email address for ages, since the start of the beta. But lately in the last year or so, I am getting mail that seems to be intended for other people but it is using my email address. It is probably one of them who created the Apple ID.

Report containing 15 sub reports crashing - Crystal Reports 2008

I am using Crystal report 2008 with all latest service packs applied. I have more then 20 different reports wich work absolutely fine and never crash. One of my report contains 15 sub reports since its bringing data from 15 different queries. This consistently keeps crashing everytime I try to run it. Not sure what could be the root cause.
We are using Postgres database and connected to it with ODBC connection using Microsoft DSN.
- All Subreport data is being displayed on Report Footer
- All subreports are included in the Main report page header section. (I have also tried doing it on report footer section but it still crashes)
I have tried searching through the forum and did not find similar issue resolutions. Did someone face similar problems before?
The crash message is:
"crw32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry of the inconvenience."
Error report contains this data:
AppName: crw32.exe AppVer: 12.2.0.290 ModName: psqlodbc35w.dll
ModVer: 9.0.2.0 Offset: 0004c538
I am using Windows XP
Crystal Report Version Details:

@Don - We performed extensive testing for this crash issue and found that now this crash is not happening only in one scenario. So we have partially fixed this.
Now the report crashes if I get disconnected from database and reconnect. This is what happens
1. open the report in crystal report 2008
2. try to run the report when db is connected- it works fine.
3. Now disconnect the database (we are using ssh tunnel to connect to db so we just close the tunnel)
4. now try to refresh the report - it fails to retrieve data.
5. Now close the report without saving it.
6. Now Close Crystal Report.
7. Now Connect the DB using ssh tunnel so crystal report can connect.
8. Now open Crystal Report
9. Launch the target report.
10 Preview the report - it works for first time.
11. Now do a refresh keeping same parameters - Report crashes here.
- I tried these steps with some of my other reports and they do not crash.
- Now I have only one report which contains a Postgres Query with date range,order by and a union join.
- No subreports now - I am trying to run this one subreport as a standalone report which I created from scratch(using blank report wizard) and just copied the query.
Any more pointers would help.

Spotify is causing "Report Crash" to run on & on & on & on....

hi, i just noticed that spotify is causing the report crash app to cycle continiously and i can't get it to stop despite force quiting over and over. i know it's spotify because that shows up in the console log and also spotify crashed a few times a couple of days ago. so how can i get the report crash to stop?

ok, while reinstalling cured the loop, it does return. and also i was having problems with the webhelper cycling even when the crash report was not. so i found this link which stopped the webhelper problem and i'll see if the crash report loop returns:
