Reporting on Exchange 2007 DB Growth

Hi
I'm running a report on a new SCOM2012 installation for Exchange 2007 DB File Growth via the Reporting page in SCOM. However, I get no data back at all. Just the summary page entitled Performance Report. I can select my MDB's OK when setting up the report.
Also the Exchange management pack is monitoring all aspects of the Exchange cluster without error using the local system account.
Incidentally none of the Exchange 2007 reports produce any data when run.
I'm fairly new to SCOM reporting, what am I missing?
Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,
Whether other reports work fine. If only Exchange report return blank, then please check whether those corresponding performance rules are enabled.

  • Exchange Server 2010 mailflow reporting using SCOM 2007

    Hi,
We are using SCOM 2007R2 in our Organization and we are Monitoring Exchange server 2010.
We are in need of reports for Mailflow statistics (send and receive)from Exchange server 2010 using SCOM 2007R2.
Eg: Microsoft Exchange 2010 Server Reports Transport Platform Hourly server Statistics.
By default reports available in SCOM for Exchange server will not fulfill our requirement.
Earlier for Exchange server 2007 we are able to fetch the desired reports which is available by default.
Eg:  Exchange 2007 SMTP Message Received
           Exchange 2007 SMTP Message Sent
Is there any way to fetch the reports for Exchange server 2010 same as Exchange 2007 reports.
    Thanks

    Hi SonarPal,

  • Exchange 2007 servers reports mailbox size full, but mailbox shows empty in OWA or Outlook.

When the users log into their mailboxes in OWA or Outlook get this warning: "You have exceeded your limit quota and can not send or receive mail" but really they have the mailbox empty, there's nothing in calendar, folders or deleted items.
I ran this command Get-MailboxStatistics and the mailbox reports for example 500 MB.
I deleted the deleted items and I configured deleted items retention to 0 days to ensure that it wasn't the problem, but the servers still reporting the same mailbox size (500 MB).
This happen to some mailboxes, not all
Please help, what can I do?

    1. How many Exchange 2007 servers do you have?
    2. What service pack and rollups are installed on the Exchange 2007 server(s)?
    3. If you have more than one server, are you using any form of replication: LCR, SCR, CCR... etc. ?
    4. What 3rd party software is installed on the Exchange 2007 server(s)? For example, antivirus, archiving, etc.
    5. Can you confirm that this happens in OWA as well? I see you mentioned OWA but I've just glanced at another problem with incorrect folder size being indicated in Outlook and it apparently had to do with the .OST file. Of course, if the problem occurs with
OWA as well, then the OST file would not come into play. Sorry to insist on that but I'm trying to rule some things out, if possible (like 3rd party apps, maybe something with replication, maybe a problem that was corrected in a service pack or rollup).
Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you.

  • Issue with SLA reports of Exchange 2010 MP in SCOM 2007 R2 !!

    Hi,
I have issues with Exchange 2010 MP SLA reporting. Whenever report is run it fails on some or the other dataset(Outage**,SLAbyDAte etc.) When I digged in, I found that it is connecting to DW Exchange 2010 Availability tables + Planned maintainance +
outage table. The tables were not available in the DW, not sure how it got removed. Initially I tried by uninstalling and installing MP(Exchange 2010  & Exchange 2010 reports both) if relevant tables get created automatically but it did
not help and I was still facing the same issue. Then I tried to create the tables manually and check if it could resolve the issue. There was unique ID associated(different in different computer) with the name of most of the tables. I tool it from Exchange
report data source which exists in reporting server. But I could see that table remain empty with no records there and SLA report start giving different issues stating table instances do not exist.
Could anyone help me to restore the SLA report of Exchange 2010 MP ? How should I ensure that data start populating the tables ? I am also helpless here because we do not have correct DW dump to restore back to earlier when it was working fine.

    Hi,
Based on my research, to correctly install the Correlation Engine, consider the following when you install the Exchange 2010 Monitoring Management Pack:
Determine which server will host the Correlation Engine. While not strictly required, it's strongly recommended that the Correlation Engine be installed on the Root Management Server computer.
Make sure that you download and install the Exchange 2010 Management Pack that matches the operating system for the selected server. You can install the 32-bit or 64-bit version.
Make sure that you run the Microsoft Installer (.msi) package on the server where you want the Exchange 2010 Management Pack and the Correlation Engine to be installed.
After the installation is complete, the Correlation Engine service will have been installed on the server, and the Management Pack files will have been copied to the
System Center Management Packs folder. By default, the installation directory is C:\Program Files\System Center Management Pack.

WSUS is trying to authenticate as itself but it cannot.... And, as I have said, I don't use authenticate option in WSUS

This is still an active issue in WSUS 3.2.7600.226 and Exchange 2010 SP1. So for those struggling but finding this thread:
Instead of building another connector specifically for WSUS, one can also try setting the 'Send on Behalf" rights correctly. Unfortunately the Exchange management shell does not have the required rights to set these kind of permissions on computer accounts.
Hence one has to manually set them in active directory. To do so follow these instructions:
-Go to Active Directory Users and Computers,
    -Enable "Advanced Features",
-Open the properties of the account that you want to send on behalf from,
    -Go to Advanced Security,
-Add the WSUS$ server computer account,
-Set "Apply onto" to "This object only",
    -Allow the "Send As" permission,
And voila, the WSUS website running under the WSUS$ computer account in IIS now has the appropiate rights to send on behalve of your account using integrated authentication.

  • Public Folder Migration Fails from Exchange 2007 to 2013

I am attempting to sync public folders between Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2013.  All the data has been copied over to the Exchange 2013 server but I am getting an error when creating the folders and their permissions.
I saw a previous thread which looked similar and I have set the bad item limit to one million as well as set mail-disable on the source public folders but I am still receiving these errors.
    I set the following commands
    Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Set-PublicFolderMigrationRequest -baditemlimit 1000000
    Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Resume-PublicFolderMigrationRequest
and on the source mailbox server:
    Get-publicfolder \Non_IPM_subtree -Recurse | Disable-MailPublicFolder

  • Public Folder Migration from Exchange 2007 to 2013 fails RelinquishedWlmStall budget limitations

I have been trying to migrate approx 50 public folders from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 for several months.  I have followed every link I can find on how to do the migration properly.  It will stay in a queued state for hours until the MRS is
restarted.  It will then start copying messages.  After reaching 28% I get RelinquishedWlmStall as Status Detail.  Running the Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequestStatistics -IncludeReport | fl command I get the following: (truncated)

    Hi,
Basic on the error message, I notice that public folder migrate slow and display that “Relinquishing job because of large delays due to unfavorable server health or budget limitations” .
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Since it is just slow and not failing, please do not stop the batch, it might connect to another server for sync.
Meanwhile, please refer to below link so that get details about Exchange Online migration performance and best practices:

If the issue persists, please collect the relevant migration report for further troubleshooting.
    Thanks

  • Server 2003 R2 DC migration to 2008 R2 worked? but exchange 2007 has stopped

    Hi everyone,
This is a single DC running on Server 2003 R2 which I migrated to a fresh install of Server 2008 R2. This appears to have worked without issue. DNS is working dcdiag and netdiag didn't report problems.
When I demote the 2003 server however Exchange 2007 stops working. It appears that it is still looking to talk to the 2003 server based on this
EVENT ID: 2012 All DC Servers in use are not responding DC.mydomain.com
Can anyone help fix this issue pls. I cant find where Exchange has stored the old domain name.
    TYIA

TY both for taking the time to reply.
I have gotten to the problem. The fact you both pointed me to event 2080 was instrumental in guiding me down the right path. Once I read this MS article I could see the new DC was missing
the SACL rights. This was a tad frustrating as I had previously checked that Manage auditing and security log was correctly configured in the Default Domain Controllers Policy, was applied to Domain
computers and the new server was in the correct container.
However when your up to your ass in a croc filled swamp you sometimes forget the odd thing; I didn't run RSOP, if I had at the time, I would have never have had to post for help. Yes you guessed it the policy wasn't enabled!! A quick enable and gpupdate
    /force and all was well.
Still, always the optimist, I learned about event 2080, and uncovered and fixed problems with the clients servers where they had ghost nics....
Just to clarify in case others read this post.
    This wan't SBS
It was a single DC domain running on server 2003 R2 x64
    Exchange 2007 running on a seperate server 2003 R2 x64.
The domain name didn't change. What I meant was the new DC had a different name
the New DC is a fresh install of server 2008 R2,  IPv6 is enabled
The old DC had adprep /forestprep then adprep /domainprep run on it
The 5 fsmo roles were moved from the old DC to the 2008 DC
Just need to move DHCP and other bits n pieces and job done :)
    Thanks for the help

  • Exchange 2007 OWA sends attachments Outlook connector clients cannot send attachments.

Exchange Server 2007 SP1 + Rollup ***Problem with sending email attachments from Outlook 2007***
    * Inbound mail arrives in OWA and Outlook normally with and without attachments.
    * OWA email to external email account with attachment goes thru successfully.
    * Outlook 2007 sends to an external email address with attachments the message does not arrive at the external mailbox.   The messages leave Outbox but are never delivered. The messages appear in Sent Items also.
    * Outlook sends non attachment emails to external addresses successfully.
    * Outlook sends email attachments to local domain accounts fine.
#1 Exchange Server on Server 2013 fully patched problem commences. Exchange Server on version less than first RTM release of Exchange 2007.
#2 Outlook profiles were changed to see if that is the problem.
#3 Upgraded Exchange to SP1 and Rollup 10(Rollup was autodownloaded by MSUpdate)
#4 Ran EXBPA nothing of any interest in the report.
--Unified Messaging not configed (Done nothing)
--SenderID (Re-enabled) I had shut all of the antispam to eliminate these.
-- Junk Store threshold not configed (No change)
Any suggestions to get Outlook clients capable of sending attachments configured.
    Thx,
    -Scot

    Hi Scot,
Providing some information on Poison Queue:
The poison message queue is a special queue that's used to isolate messages that are determined to be harmful to the Exchange system after a transport server or service failure.
The messages may be genuinely harmful in their content and format.
Alternatively, they may be the results of a poorly written agent that has caused the Exchange server to fail when it processed the supposedly bad messages.
The poison message queue is typically empty. If the poison message queue contains no messages it doesn't appear in Queue Viewer or
Get-Queue results. The messages in the poison message queue are never automatically resumed or expired. Messages remain in the poison message queue until they're manually resumed or removed by an administrator.
According to the description above, I suspect Outlook 2007 changed the email's format when send email with attachment. The reason as below:
If the original email's (with attachment) content or format is harmful to the Exchange 2007 server, it will go to the Poison Queue when sending via OWA. However it didn't, sending via OWA is perfect. So I suspect it is an issue on the Outlook 2007
    client side.
Please using Pipeline Tracing to verify whether there is something changed during transmission.
More details in the following article:
Using Pipeline Tracing to Diagnose Transport Agent Problems
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125198(v=exchg.80).aspx
If it is convenient, I suggest doing following tests to narrow down this issue:
Note: Same content, same attachment, same format.
    1. Please using Outlook 2010/2013 or others' Outlook clients for testing.
    2. Please change to another format for testing. More details in the following article:
Change the message format to HTML, Rich Text, or plain text
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/outlook-help/change-the-message-format-to-html-rich-text-or-plain-text-HP001232996.aspx

  • Exchange 2007 to 2013 Migration issues. Prompt for credentials, Public Folders inaccessible, Apps not working

    Exchange 2013 Migration issues
I have three issues and decided to list them here. Please pick and choose to assist. Thanks in advance.
    Environment:
    Mixed 2007 SP3 R12 and 2013 CU3. 2007 Environment was webmail.domain.com. I installed new Exchange 2013 (1 CAS, 1 Mailbox) according to:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff805032(v=exchg.150).aspx. Exchange 2007 is now legacy.domain.com and Exchange 2013 CAS is webmail.domain.com.
Machine 1: Windows 8.1, not domain joined, using Outlook Anywhere external. Outlook 2013
Machine 2: Windows 7, domain joined, using Outlook Anywhere internal. Outlook 2010 SP2
I have migrated 1 user so far to Exchange 2013. This user was a Domain Admin. I have removed that membership. I checked the box to inherit permissions of the security of the object and reset the AdminCount attribute in ADSIedit to 0 and verified this replicated
to all domain controllers. ( I originally thought this to be the issue with it prompting for the password. )

    ISSUE 1
Issue: On Machine 1 (reference above) Windows Security prompt that says "Connecting to
[email protected]". Almost always prompts when Outlook is first opened. Afterwards (if it goes away) seemingly random on when it asks for it. I put in the credentials (absolutely correct) and it fails and prompts again.
I always check the box for it to save the password. To get rid of it, I click the Cancel button at which Outlook reports "NEED PASSWORD", but still acts fine sending and receiving emails. Eventually the "NEED PASSWORD" sometimes changes
to say "CONNECTED", but it works regardless.
No issues on Machine 2 so I don't know where the problem might be as there are a lot of variables in play here.
    ISSUE 2
Migrated user is unable to open Public folders from Exchange 2007.
Cannot expan the folder. Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance. (/o=...).
This error occurs on Machine 1, Machine 2 and from OWA, same error each time.
    ISSUE 3
Apps. Installed by default are 4 apps (Bing Maps, Suggested Meetings, Unsubscribe, Action Items). I have made sure the apps are enabled in OWA and they show up in mail items on both Machine 1 (Outlook 2013) and OWA. They do not show up in Machine 2 (Outlook
    2010). I'm assuming that isn't supported.
In OWA, when I go to the installed apps listing it shows all of the apps but has a broken link on the image describing the app.
When I click the app in either Outlook 2013 or in OWA, I get "APP ERROR, Sorry we can't load the app. Please make sure you have network and/or internet connectivity. Click "Retry" once you're back online.
Current workaround is just disabling them through OWA.

    Hello,
In order to avoid confusion, we troubleshoot a issue per thread usually.
For your first isue, I agree with Ed's suggestion to check if your certificate name is correct.
Besides, I recommend you change ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod from Basic authentication to Negotiate authentication to check the result.
For the second issue and third issue, please create a new post.

    Hi All,
I have been looking around for scripts which would help me perform regularised health checks in my enviornment. After lot of googling i was able to get a script which would meet my requirements. However i have a few challenges involved in extracting some
    more information:
    1. Mailbox Store Size, Free Diskspace percentage for mailbox servers
    2. Remote Mail flow Tests & Mailflow test to every exchange 2007 mailbox servers in org.
    3. Automating Email of collected data (in HTML) to Administrator.
    4. Executing the script Automatically without triggering it from Exchange Management Shell.
    Script Below
    param( [string] $auditlist)

  • Exchange 2007 database won't mount due to MapiExceptionCallFailed errors

A server is running Exchange Server 2007 SP2 on Windows Server 2008 64-bit. After a couple years of running smoothly, the Windows Application event log started filling up with several instances every minute of the following error:
    MSExchangeIS (2644) First Storage Group: A bad page link (error -327) has been detected in a B-Tree (ObjectId: 5, PgnoRoot: 10) of database H:\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database.edb (165296 => 3185, 817790).
Messages sent to a specific mailbox on the server started getting returned as undeliverable with the message:
#550 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver: The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service reported an error. The following information should help identify the cause of this error: "MapiExceptionCallFailed..."
I assumed that the event log messages and the delivery errors were related so I ran "eseutil /d" on the database but it exited with the message, "Operation terminated with error -1605 (JET_errKeyDuplicate, Illegal duplicate key) after 76.578 seconds. Running
eseutil /mh reports the database state as clean shutdown.
The Exchange database had been backed up nightly using Windows Server 2008 Backup. I restored the latest backup of the .edb file. Unfortunately, the corruption behind the bad page link error seemingly had propagated through the backups because the restored
.edb file had the same issues.
I then attempted to create a new clean database with the goal of then transferring mailbox data from the old to the new as described in the article "Simplifying the Dial Tone Database Recovery Process in Exchange 2007" (http://blogs.technet.com/b/dhardin/archive/2009/08/25/simplifying-the-dial-tone-database-recovery-process-in-exchange-2007.aspx).
I successfully created the new storage group and database with empty instances of all mailboxes but attempts to mount the old database yield this message:
Error: Exchange is unable to mount the database that you specified. Specified database: FASTMAIL\NewStorageGroup\Mailbox Database; Error code: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-344)
I then tried to return to the initial state of having a corrupted database but one that would at least function temporarily for all but the one broken mailbox. The idea would be to instruct individual users to run the Outlook archive command to back their
messages up locally into .pst files. Unfortunately, all attempts to mount the original .edb file yield the same MapiExceptionCallFailed error. I also tried to mount the database after deleting the transaction log files.
I searched the web for information on this error. There are some pages describing similar errors such as "hr=0x80004005, ec=2417" but I could not find any for "ec=-344". Some articles recommend running IsInteg.exe but this utility only works for databases
that are already mounted and I am unable to mount the database.
The Exchange server is running again using the empty database so that the users can at least send and receive mail. I get the sinking feeling that all hope is lost and the historical mail data that was stored on the server is gone for good. Before I face
the pitchforks of the angry mob, I figured that I would at least post an inquiry on an Exchange-related forum.
Are there any other steps I should take to try to recover the old data?

have you checked the health of the database using eseutil /mh "edbfilename.edb" ?
is the state: Clean Shutdown ?
If it is in clean shutdown state, then move the old logs, chk, .jrs files and select the option "This database can be overwritten by a restore" and mount the database.
In case if your database is not in clean shutdown state then you would need to work towards getting the database to clean shutdown using any of the following strategies based on the criteria that the database is affected with !
    1. soft recovery
    2. Hard Recovery
    3. Hard repair

  • Mail (Lion) & Exchange 2007, periodically stops receiving messages, does no hang

As the title says, we are having this issue.  I saw another post last year about Exchange 2010 hanging, and an old certificate caused the issue.  Our network admin is looking into that.
We are not experiencing any hangs.  Mail "works" fine.  We have multiple accounts setup (all Exchange) and 2 of the 3 are sending and receiving fine.  The last mailbox, the actual use account, will stop receiving.  There are no errors or indicators.  Typically someone will call and ask why she isn't responding.  She closes Mail and reopens and the emails come in.  Sometimes it's once a day, sometimes more.  I've removed the Exchange account and added it back in and it helped, but didn't resolve the issue.
    Any thoughts?

After having the same error ("opening mailbox - Requesting latest information" - hang) and fighting for months on my Mac (Lion) to solve it, including writing angry bug reports to Apple - I think I finally found the source of the problem:
There was an old (invalid) certificate installed in Exchange (2007, in my case), enabled for SMTP.
Nobody seems to care about this - including Snow Leopard Mail, Outlook and all iOS devices - but Lion Mail cared, and just stuck. Typically after some time - maybe sleep/wake or just a couple of hours - Mail was stuck and did not receive any new mails anymore, until I Force Quit it.
I got the hint from another forum (somebody suggested changing the properties in the locally installed certificates in Lion - but this was not the solution) and after seeing the question popping up once in Mail Preferences (do you want to trust this (old) certificate).
After removing the old certificate from Exchange (good luck with this admin user interface - no wonder we did not notice it) - everything works ok for me, already a day without any hangs.
Hope it helps! (Let us know the outcome...)

  • Inconsistencies connecting to Exchange 2007

    Greetings:
We have just migrated a high-demand client to Exchange 2007, and are using a combination of Apple Mail and Entourage for a few different users.
Users are reporting messages coming into their Blackberries and Entourage almost immediately after sending.
Yet in Apple Mail, we are seeing issues where some of the mail is not being received by Mail for sometimes up to 30 minutes later.
We're trying to nail this down to see if it has to do with certain messages that use attachments. It has been difficult to reproduce, but we've had many complaints in the last 2 weeks since we made the switch.
Additionally, when we were on Exchange 2003, two of the users liked using POP because of the sheer number of messages and attachments they received. On the new server, POP became impossible to use because Apple Mail would start downloading the same messages two, three, sometimes even four times, causing massive amounts of duplication.
Attachments haven't been consistent in Mail. I will sometimes see messages via OWA that have the attachment, but Mail will not show the attachment. We are having users quit Mail and restart it, and sometimes this can correct the flow of messages, as well as attachments showing up or not.
There is another issue that has been plaguing us: at least 2 or 3 times in the last couple of weeks, someone has deleted a message by accident. And when going into the Trash to find the message (Mailbox behaviors are set to store deleted items on server), the message has just disappeared. They've been able to pull it from the Blackberry in some cases, because Mail does not always resolve the deletion quickly.
We wanted to know: what are the caveats of using Apple Mail with Exchange 2007? Does the newest rollup make all the difference? Are there issues that we should know about? The "slowness" issue is the biggest complaint we're getting on a regular basis.
Internet connections vary, since the principles of the company are spread out between Hollywood, Palm Springs, and Tulsa - and the reports we're getting back are coming from all of those locations.

The first thing to check is how often Mail is polling the server for new messages. Mail does not support Push messaging from Exchange, so you have to set the frequency of message checking appropriately. I have mine set to check every minute.
I can't address the issue with attachments, though we have had similar problems with Outlook clients that have turned out to be problems with the user's Exchange profile (Blackberry systems use RIM's own mail servers, not the Exchange server, so you can't really compare experiences there). For deleted messages, there may be more than one folder in which deleted messages may be put, so it may be that your users just aren't looking in the correct folder; there may be the Mail Trash, but also a Deleted Items folder down in the list of folders.
    Hope this helps.

  • BPA shows domain prepped for Exchange 2007 SP1 after SP3 install

    Hello,
I have a Client with a domain that is at 2003 domain functional level and 2000 forest level.
The client had Exchange 2007 SP1 and I have just upgraded it to SP3. There is one CAS, one Hub Transport, and one Mailbox Server (All three had Exchange 2007 SP1).
The domain and forest were prepped earlier by someone else and when I ran the installation program, it didn't pop up any errors on any of the servers.
The upgrade to SP3 is in preperation to Exchange 2010. Everything is working ok. I have checked:
    1) In ADSIEdit, Exchange System Objects properties: Object Version =11221.
    2) In ADSIEdit, Services>Microsoft Exchange>Organization: Object Version =11222
    3) In ADSIEdit, RangeUpper value of ms-Exch-Schema-Version-Pt object = 14625
However, When I run the Exchange BPA, it reports that the domain is prepped for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (In informational items). This is an informational item and not a warning or alert. However, I am concerned. Is this normal, and will it affect
    the migration to Exchange 2010?
    Thanks,
    HA

    Hello Ha20,
Based on my experience, it will not affect the migration. However, it’s recommended to prepare the schema again to avoid any potential issues.
    Thanks,
