Reporting pretest score to LMS using Captivate 8

Does anyone know where I would find instructions on how to report pretest scores to an LMS? I don't have the eLearning suite.

Hmmm, your question was really different than my interpretation. You want to know what is the goal, design of the Pretest?
Pretest's design is for one specific goal: allow the user to take a pretest, in order to create custom navigation based on the score of the pretest. That custom navigation is created using the Pretest action, that you can Edit with the button in the Actions part of the Quiz panel for Pretest slides. There is a basic set up but you have to edit the slides to jump to in Pass/Failure situations. You can also extend the conditional action to more than two branches based on the result of the Pretest score. You will see that the system variable I pointed to in my first answer is used in this action.
On my pleading, the Adobe team added more Pretest system variables after the first release (6?), to make it possible to create a real score slide to show the result to the user. I suppose you already have my updated table with the system variables in CP8, you'll find the explanation of those Pretest variables in the table.
As you are aware of, SCORM requires that each course has only one Quiz, and that score will be reported. The pretest was designed to have an easier work flow to have such a 'pretest' but its score is not reported to the LMS (unless the LMS accepts values of variables), only the score of the real quiz.

  • Reporting score to LMS Manually

    Hello Everyone
    I am working on a project where I am creating slides with variables to track
    the score, attempts, correct answers, percentage score, etc instead of inbuild quiz functionality.
    I didn't use quiz functionality provided by captivate as different questions are of different type with
    different scores attached to them.
    All is working fine but now I want to report final scores to LMS and want to know how can that
    be done on the final slide. How can I post all the variable values like scores achieved, total score,
    percentage score, competency status, etc to LMS.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    JagVWS

    By default Captivate does not provide any way to report user variable values as SCORM scores.  Only interactive objects or quiz question slides can be assigned to report a score or result to the quiz.  Since user variables are not interactive, you cannot assign them to report to the quiz.
    There is a widget that allows you to set up user variables as slave objects and basically treat them as interactive, but it's the widget that actually reports the score to the quiz ON BEHALF of the variable.
    You can find out more about it here:
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-widgets/interactive-master
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/interactivemaster/help
    Free trial version widgets here:
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-widgets/download-free-trial-widgets
    Please note that this widget is NOT HTML5 compliant.  Only HTM/SWF output is supported.

  • Captivate 5 not Reporting Quiz scores correctly in LMS

    Our organization is transitioning to Captivate 5 from Captivate 4.  We are using SumTotal as our LMS.  I took a CP4 project and converted to CP5, then uploaded it as a test.  The results were dismaying.
    Captivate 5 Scorm 1.2 apprears to send scores to the LMS instead of scaled scores.  For example; If you have 20 questions the scaled score should always be 0 to 100.
    In the example I converted from Captivate 4, I have 15 quiz questions.  In my first try I scored 60% on the Quiz.  Captivate reported to the LMS a percentage complete of 0 and a score of 90%.  In my second attempt I scored 80% (which is required for passing from within the Quiz setup) and Captivate reported to the LMS 100% complete and a score of 100%.
    I repeat, all worked fine with the same course published as Captivate 4.
    I work for a very large multinational company.  This is a killer for us if we want to go forward with Captive 5.  In fact, I have just spent a lot of money upgrading everyone in my department - money wasted if we can't use the output with our LMS.
    Does anyone have any ideas, and is there a way to get to someone at Adobe if this forum is unable to provide answers?
    Sorry to sound panicked, but I guess I am.

    Hi all
    You're absolutely right. Adobe silence is extremely unsatisfactory and unprofessional. Below are the email correspondences. Does anyone know who are the President or the CEO and the email address? I think it’s about time to find out why from the top man himself.

    The configuration is exactly as described in the Adobe help. Both the quiz and Wampserver is on the same machine. The rest is as per stated on the forum thread.
    By looking at the results of the Cp5 Quiz Results Analyzer, does it make any sense? The statistics doesn't fit in at all.

  • CP8 reports score not percentage to LMS using SCORM 2004 3rd edition

    Hi,
    I have 24 questions and when I answer 2 questions correctly I get a score of 20, (each question being worth 10 points), but it is possible to send to the LMS a percentage and not a total score?  This LMS does not calculate but just shows what is sent which is confusing to the learner.  I'm using SCORM 2004 3rd edition.

    Hi Rod,
    Thanks for that tip, I've double checked that and it appears to be correct.  I was under the impression that the reporting section would just be used for the criteria       for completion and would still report the score/percentage.
    This is what my screen looks like, pretty standard I think.
    Any other areas that I should doublecheck?  I was thinking of making each question worth 5 points but that would require manually adjusting each course, less preferred way to fix it.
    I started thinking that under Quiz Result Message I only have Correct Question and Total Questions checked off, but don't know if that would cause the percentage to not output. Unlikely I think.

  • How to get the Success Factors LMS to record the quiz score for an Adobe Captivate 7 module.

    I have a few questions and one outstanding issue.
    My Issue:
    I can’t get the score to be recorded by the Success Factors LMS.
    Question 1)
    I notice that the quiz reporting section in Captivate 7’s Preferences menu has a “Data To Report” section.
    However, for SCORM 2004 and Tin Can, there is no option to report Quiz Score like there is for SCORM 1.2 and AICC.
    Is reporting the score impossible for those reporting standards?
    Question 2)
    My organization is using the Success Factors LMS and I’m trying to get the score to be recorded by the LMS.
    I’ve set the Published Captivate module to report the Quiz Score as a percentage (Points is unavailable to me since there are more than 100 pts),
    but the LMS is recording whether the module was Complete (passed) or incomplete (not passed or yet to be completed).
    Is (are) there some parameter(s) on Captivate’s side that I need to be setting for Success Factors to correctly record the score?
    - Maybe Captivate (in SCORM 1.2) should be reporting the Score as points and not percentage?
    - Maybe I should be using AICC?
    Is (are) there some parameter(s) on Success Factor’s side to interface correctly with Captivate?
    I’ve checked the Adobe forums, but I don’t see any help there and
    I’ve googled the issue to the point of exhaustion and frustration.
    So, I would very much appreciate the help.
    Thank you for your time.
    Provided below is a screenshot of my Quiz Reporting settings:

    Last year I worked with a customer who has the SuccessFactors LMS and, after some issues and discussions, the SF folks suggested their LMS supports AICC better than SCORM.
    That stunned me a bit...
    SO, sure, barring anything else, it may not hurt to try AICC!
    And I think SF is also limited in their SCORM 2004 support. If going with SCORM, definitely try to get SCORM 1.2 working first.
    Your settings look good to me. Maybe can't hurt to try 'points' but I'm not so sure that would work.
    So you're ONLY seeing 'Completed/Incomplete' not 'passed/failed' as you'd prefer?
    You're not seeing a recorded percentage at all?

  • Problem with registering Captivate Quiz score in LMS

    We are using Integrity e-Learning’s WBT manager for our
    LMS. We have been using Captivate (SWF files) for several months to
    show simulations for software. Generally we are quite happy with
    the software.
    We have been able to easily create a quiz (a Captivate
    generated SWF file) and access it through the LMS (using a HTML
    frameset), unfortunately we are having trouble passing the
    numerical score the quiz generates to the LMS.
    When a student takes a Captivate Quiz (bound into a SWF
    file), the final score displays on the final frame of the SWF file,
    but is not getting passed to the LMS. All the other data seems to
    be fine. So far we are only viewing status using the Lesson
    Progress Report, which indicates “no score (n/a)”. In
    this case we are embedding the SWF file into a HTML page contained
    in a frameset.
    We have been able to get a score successfully passed to the
    LMS if we link directly to the .swf file, bypassing HTML
    altogether, unfortunately we also get a warning about using Flash
    Player and multiple warnings about downloading the
    “aicc_int.asp” file.
    I have read through:
    “Output Options in Captivate” by Andrew Chemey
    (Parts 1, 2, 3, and 4)
    “Exploring Quizzing in Macromedia Captivate” by
    Mark Fletcher
    “Integrating Captivate-Generated Learning Objects into
    WBT Manager, Part 1 and 2” by Carol Fallon
    Has anyone had this problem and solved it?
    TPK

    Please contact me at [email protected] I have many
    examples of Captivate passing scores sucessfully back to WBT
    Manager. So hopefully I can help you figure out what is going on.

    Pretest score normally is not sent to the LMS. However it is stored in a system variable, you could use JS to send it.

  • Tracking Individual Users Scores using Captivate 4 and Connect Enterprise

    Hi,
    I work in an IT shop and currently I am having trouble supporting our Marketing division's Captivate needs. They wish to be able to create quizes for online viewing in an LMS and be able to track individual users scores for accountability. Right now I we are using Captivate 4 with Adobe Connect Enterprise. I have been able to use the LMS and view quizes online, but all reporting is done as aggregate and not a session by session (individual) basis. Thus, I only have access to average, max, min scores and other info about all test takers, but no information about specific test users. I have considered accomplishing this by sending data to an access database, but this would require the IT deparment to regularly assist them with creating tests. Obviously I am looking to have the Marketing department be as self-sufficient as they can be. I think the easiest way would be to have the quiz report a session ID (unique for each instance of the quiz being accessed) to Adobe Connect and having Connect associate each aswer to a specific session ID. Other than that I do not have any other ideas for proper tracking of each user's score.
    Does anyone know what the easiest (least amount of involvement from the IT staff each time Marketing needs to make a test in captivate) way to accomplish this?
    Thanks!

    So, i sorta found a way to do this -- by adding a TOC and making the lessons self-paced, the user will always be brought back to the place where they left off when they exited the lesson.
    But it seems that even though the icon in the curriculum list changes to CONTINUE when the user closes the lesson, it still unlocks the next lesson even though the staus checkmarks in the previous lesson are not complete.
    Help. Are there any other such postings?

  • Using Captivate with the Active Learner (RDC) LMS

    Hi
    I am using Captivate 3 with the Active Learner LMS (supplied
    by RDC).
    I have enabled reporting for the project and chosen AICC for
    the LMS option (there are quite a few quiz pages throughout the
    project).
    When the module is run via Active Learner, pop-up windows
    start appearing and it asks the question 'Do you want to open or
    save the file LOAICCCommunicator.asp'?
    Also, this error message appears?
    ‘error=3 error_text=Invalid Session version=3.5

    Has anyone had a similar experience with Active Learner or
    other LMS?

    I can't find any information on this LMS. Even RDC's site
    seems to not
    mention it:
    http://www.resources4learning.com
    Is it still supported? Maybe time to move on to a new LMS!
    The file it's asking about has an .asp extension. Is the LMS
    running on
    a web server that can handle ASP pages (i.e. IIS properly
    setup)? If the
    webserver can't process ASP pages, then I could see why the
    LMS is
    asking what you want to do with the file...
    Here's a post on the AICC site that has some relation, at
    least as far
    as AICC problems go - perhaps there's something there that
    will help

    I am using Captivate 6 and SumTotal as the LMS.

    Sorry if i wasn't more clear but was that response needed?No it wasn't needed, but I'm not the one asking for help so I have the luxury of not worrying too much about it. It's extremely frustrating trying to drag relevant information out of someone, and makes one less inclined to bother.
    Anyways, there's still nothing in this thread that actually explicitly says "there is a file called VolcanoApp.java in the directory where I'm running javac from" and I really can't be bothered banging my head against the wall any longer. You've made a silly mistake, or a false assumption. We all do it from time to time. My advice is, take a break, go for a walk and re-visit this in a while. You'll probably spot the mistake right away.

  • Quiz results reporting wrong score

    I have a module with a 6 question quiz at the end of it. Each
    quiz question is 10 points, but even when the user gets a 100% on
    the quiz review, it only reports 14% to the LMS and I don't get a
    complete status. I'm using the SumTotal LMS.
    PLEASE SOMEONE HELP! This is maddening.

    I will assume you are using Captivate 2.
    Every time you create a simulation within Captivate 2 and
    include buttons (eg. as navigations) these count as interactions
    and are able to be part of all scorable objects.
    Go to Project > Advanced Interaction and you will view all
    objects (click boxes, text entry boxes, buttons, questions, etc)
    that send scores. You will be able on this screen to see all the
    objects that are sending scores including those of your 6 question
    quiz.
    Simply uncheck the boxes for the objects you do not want
    scores to be recorded and leave the ones for the quiz checked. Now
    your users will be able to get scores for only the quiz.
    Let us know how it worked for you.

  • How do I mark complete based on slide views only and not report a score

    I am having a problem with the e-learning modules that I am producing in Captivate 4 (and previously 3). The modules do not contain any quiz and I am only interested in having them report a complete/incomplete based on if the user have viewed 80% of the slide. I am not really interested in reporting any score since I am not using a quiz.
    Currently the courses gets marked as complete but with a score of 0%, which obiously some users find strange..
    Since I only have the option to change the score reporting to be based on score or percenatge I am trying to find where I can change the imsmanifest to send the score - BLANK or NULL instead of 0. I have been looking through the imsmanifest it self and the files in the scorm support folder - but cannot figure where I would do this change.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Andrew,
    I tried this with a slight change in the code (I think there where a / when commenting out the second line of the code):
    } else if ( strFSCmd == "LMSSetValue" || strFSCmd=="SetValue") {
    // AEC: OVERRIDE BEHAVIOR
    if(strFSArg1.indexOf("raw") > -1)
    strErr = "";
    } else if (strFSArg1.indexOf("max") > -1) {
    strErr = "";
    } else if (strFSArg1.indexOf("min") > -1) {
    strErr = "";
    } else {
    strErr = eval('g_objAPI.' + strFSCmd + '(\"' + strFSArg1 + '\",\"' + strFSArg2 + '\");');
    // AEC: END OVERRIDE BEHAVIOR
    CaptivateObj.SetVariable(strFSArg3, strErr);
    However for some reason my LMS still report a score (this time 100% which is much better than 0...) on the course that I tested this on. I was expecting no score to be sent. Can this be due to  how the LMS is interpreting what is being sent or is there something that I am missing?
    One more question - in which folder do I find the SCORM.htm template file? I thought it was a great idea to create a custom on and was looking for it in the progam file on my compter - but couldn't find it...

  • Reporting quiz score when spread across separate lessons? cp8

    Hi,
    I have 7 lessons in my course. The LMS does NOT support a mastery roll-up score like the originally indicated they did. They cannot be combined in to one lesson. They are large.
    So each has a portion of the quiz (no, they cannot be all placed in one lesson, they have to be separate). What I'd like to do is gather the scores of all 7 parts and tally them in to one final score to report to the LMS. As I see it, Captivate does not support this. I spotted CPGuru's Save & Load data widget. This looks like it will really help out. I think using this I can save each partial score and then in the final lesson tally them all up. The problem now becomes how do I report that score to the LMS as THE final quiz score result? I don't see a way to modify the quiz variables.
    Ideas? Another widget out there?
    Thanks!
      Lori
    CP8, Windows 8.1, publishing SWF.

    That is really a strange LMS you are using: no gradebook or something similar at all? What you are asking for is typical a functionality of (most) LMS's.
    Quizzing system variables are read-only, you cannot change them at all. Although you could transfer the results of the different quizzes to the 'master' project, how will you transfer them to the quizzing system variables. Only those define what will be put in the SCORM reporting. For a different goal, reporting custom questions, I have been looking for ways to get results into the quizzing system variables, but for a use case like yours I only see Javascripting as a solution or the use of the Mastery widget by Infosemantics (SWF-output only). Summarizing the resulting scores into a user variable is pretty simple, but not transferring it to the quizzing system variable. Only scores attached to question slides, or to interactive objects are included in those system variables. Have a look at my workaround for a much simpler use case for one custom question, maybe you'll understand the problem better:
    Report Custom Questions - part 2 - Captivate blog
    I have no blog post about the solution with JS, sorry.

  • Basic Questions On Scoring and LMS with Captivate 4

    Hello,
    Forive me if this question is too basic for this forum, but I have to ask it somewhere.
    I am an academic librarian who develops tutorials using Capitvate 4.  Each tutorial I develop has about 5 true/false, multiple choice questions.  My technical knowledge is limited as a "librarian," but is strong enough to storyboard, develop graphics, and write elearning tutorials. But I have no idea on how to  capture the results from my quizes and perform assessments, which is what I really need to do.
    So, basically, what do I need to do?  Do I ask my university to tap into their LMS?  Coordinate with someone in a techncial services capacity and let them handle it? Have test results emailed using Captivate?  Use something called Moodle? Wait until Captivate 5 comes out?  I do not need anything fancy; just percentages on pass/fail rates associated with 5 questions or so.
    Are there some basic instructions out there?
    Best,
    George Germek

    Hello,
    Since you seem to have a LMS, the easiest way is to let handle the assessment by the LMS. You'll have to ask where you can store the SCORM-objects(will explain soon) so that the users you want to reach can have access to them. The LMS takes care of the login for the users, and can link the results of an assessment to this user. You'll have to ask for the rights to have access to these results.
    Creating a SCORM-object from CP is possible, but you need to know which SCORM-standard is supported by the LMS. Then you will decide what you want to have reported from the LMS: p.e. only the score, if they failed/passed (when you have put in a mastery score), how many attempts they made etc. If you have this information, would be glad to help you set up a first SCORM-object from a CP-file.
    E-mailing results is a bit tricky in CP4, sometimes it works, sometimes not.
    In CP5 you'll have other possibilities than a LMS (by the way Moodle is a free LMS, do not think this will be OK for you because you already have a LMS around): posting the results to acrobat.com (rather simple process, really) or using an internal webserver (but then you'll need some technical assistance I'm afraid).
    Hope this gives you some ideas?
