Reporting Services - Export to Fillable PDF

Has anyone found a tool that will allow you to build a report and export it as a Fillable PDF?  We have customers who need checklists, etc. and we would love to generate this as a form pre-filled with data from our SQL Server but they need to be able
to fill out the PDF.
Sherry

This is an interesting blog about how to "fabricate" the look of checks, but there isn't any out of the box capability to export an interactive pdf.
http://blog.hoegaerden.be/2012/08/04/displaying-checkboxes-in-an-ssrs-report/
What you seem to be asking is for a solution to export and be able to import pdf results. Which would lead me to say it's much more out of scope for just a "reporting services" forum. I couldn't find any 3rd party companies that offer this service
but there is some pointers for building an application found here - http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/9.0/processQuickStarts/qsRenderPDFForms.html
I did find a few 3rd party tools that will scrape a pdf to put in a format to consume data.

  • Hyperion IR 9.3.1 - Issue in printing the report after exporting it to pdf

    Hi All,
    I am facing a problem in printing the report after exporting it to pdf format using Hyperion Interactive Reporting 9.3.1. I have set page size of report section to 11X17 inch landscape. Now I am exporting this report section to pdf. Report gets exported to pdf with size 11X17 inch landsacpe. But when I am trying to print this pdf it is shrinking the documnet size to A4 size paper and printing it rather it should print it on 11X17 inch paper size. Please suggest if there is fix available for this issue.
    Thanks
    Ujjawal

    "File > Print Setup > Paper > Size" on PDF.
    I think this issue is only to do with the printer and not IR.
    I think the question now is "Can your printer print 11X17 pages or not".

  • SQL Server 2014 Reporting Services export to Excel

    Hello,
    We recently upgraded to SQL Server 2014 from 2008 R2.
    In SSRS With the new version of SQL Server we are having an issue with the Cell Border Expression logic when exporting to Excel.
    This Cell is a Grouped By Column on the Staff ID
    Here is the expression for the Cell Border
    BorderStyle:
              =IIF(Fields!StaffParttime.Value = "Y", "Solid","None")
    The report renders correctly however when exporting the report the Border is not correct in the spreadsheet.
    Example:  Cell 1 Parttime = "N" there is no border, Cell 2 Parttime = "Y" there is a border, Cell 3 Parttime = "N" there is a border
    Cell 3 should not have a border, also the subsequent sheets all have borders when they should not.  Once the border is set it does not change.
    Has anyone had this same/similar problem and if so what was your resolution?
    Thanks

    Hi Jrod T,
    Based on your description, you are experiencing an issue with the Cell Border Expression logic when exporting the report to Excel, you can’t see the expression added for the Border Style (=IIF(Fields!StaffParttime.Value = "Y", "Solid","None")
    ) work fine in the recently upgraded SQL Server 2014, right?
    I have tested it on my local environment in both the early version and the later version and reproduced the issue in SQL Server 2014.
    The issue due to in the earlier versions of Reporting Services (2005), there was limited support for translating expressions in RDL to Microsoft Excel formulas. But in the newly version, when you export a report to Excel, RDL expressions will not translated
    to Excel formulas, So in the version 2014 the expression will not work.

  • Sql server reporting services + export to excel + embedded images

    Hi all,
    i got a problem when exporting to excel in ssrs 2008.
    i use embedded image in the report. but when i export the report to excel, image is being exported but its width is being changed to size 0 .
    but when i click on it and expand it explicitly in excel it is being expanded .
    how to make the image by default to its actual width?
    how to fix this problem ?

    Hi sudeep Puvvadi,
    Based on the information posted, I have a test with SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 (SSRS2008) and Microsoft
    Excel 2010 by the following steps:
    From the Toolbox window, drag the image to the top edge of the design surface.
    In the image Properties dialog box, select Embedded from the Select The Image Source drop-down list.
    Click import, and select a BMP file from my local computer.
    Right-click the image, select Image Properties. In Size category, select Original size.
    Export the report to excel.
    When opening the excel file, the image displays with original size rightly. So I suggest you to add an image with
    the same steps above, then checking whether the image shows correctly. If it still cannot work fine for you, could you please give me a feedback and tell me related settings, so that I can reproduce the scenario exactly and provide further assistance?
    Thanks,

  • Best way to expand a report and export it to PDF?

    Hi, we have created an Excel worksheet with several Power View reports. Some of the reports contain detailed information, such as a table of risks for a project. The stakeholders are quite happy with the interactive feature of Power View, as they can use
    a filter to select a project and view its risks. Also it is very easy to add additional columns in the future (compared to traditional reporting solutions like SSRS that require developers help just to add some columns). However, sometimes the
    stakeholders also need a static pdf output, as some stakeholders do not have Excel 2013, and they may work offline (do not have access to the SharePoint version of Power View either).
    In this static version, the projects must be expanded, so that the pdf contains information of all projects, not just the currently selected one by the filter. Ideeally, if there're 10 projects, each contains 3 sheets, then each sheet will be repeated
    for every project in the pdf, so there will be 30 pages in the output. But Excel's built-in print to pdf feature doesn't seem to support this scenario. In addition, some projects have a lot of risks, and in Power View, a scroll bar is displayed.
    When exporting to pdf, the scroll bar is not expanded. Thus the pdf only displays part of the risks which are currently visible on the screen.
    Is there a way to overcome those limitations, while keep most benifits of self servicing report? We don't mind to look into third party solutions, if the price is reasonable and the solution works nicely with Power BI. Thanks for any thought.
    Shining Oh Blue Star

    This is a bad thing to do with JPEGs. You're better off just reducing the 'q' if you want a smaller/faster/lower resolution image. That way you're throwing away resolution intelligently. Using scaling you're throwing resolution away unintelligently. I was on a project where 40,000 images were scaled when they should have been low-q'd. Don't do it.

  • Can't download or open a fillable pdf with Windows 8.1   - desperately need help!

    My son is working on a Boy Scout Eagle project.  He recently got a computer with Windows 8.1.  I also have Windows 8.1 on my computer.  Neither of us are able to open the Eagle service project workbook fillable pdf form he already started and emailed to himself from his old computer or to download a new form from the BSA website.  The latest version of Adobe pdf reader (11) is installed on both our machines.  Here is the page from which we are to download the form:
    Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook Procedures
    Can anyone help us?

    Have you tried opening the PDF directly from Adobe Reader? Windows 8.1 included Microsoft Reader, which is far less capable than Adobe Reader, and can't work with XFA-based PDF forms like the one you're trying to use.

  • Server Server 2014 Reporting Services Redistributable

    Why has a 2014 Reporting Services Redistributable not been published?
    I have seen multiple references saying that the Reporting Services report viewer did not change between 2012 and 2014. If that is the case then why do I see a 12.0.2000.8 version of Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.dll on my workstation (with SQL Server Developer's
    Edition installed) and on our DB servers if there's not supposed to be a new ReportViewer for 2014?
    Our web servers only have 11.0.0.0 because we have only installed the 2012 redistributable on them.
    We're experiencing a very odd problem with some of our reports. I want the latest version on our web server whether they're supposed to be same or not.
    Should we just use the SQL Server ISO to install only install the client components?
    Thanks

  • Reporting Services with out national character after export to PDF

    I have problem with exported report to PDF(sended by job)on some devices(pc, mobile, tablets),i dont see any text correctly, only undefinied symbols, problem only exists on exported reports, on SSRS by WEB looks correctly,

    Region: Poland.

    Hello,
    According to your description, it is contains non-English characters in your report. This problem occurs because the glyph IDs for some non-English characters have changed in some font files.
    In Cumulative Update #1 for SQL Server 2008 is automatic full font embedding and subsetting for Unicode characters in Reporting Services 2008 PDF rendering. Please update SSRS 2008 to SSRS 2008 CU1 to resolve the issue.
    There is a KB article about Incorrect characters appear in a SQL Server Reporting Services report after you export it to a PDF file, you can refer to it.

  • Is the Export Quality for PDFs in Reporting Services 2005 only 96DPI?

    I have been fighting with Reporting Services all day, and despite setting the PDF output quality to 300DPI, I have noticed that the image quality appears to be only 96DPI. I've noticed this because images with a size set for 300DPI are too large for the page, and images set for 96DPI fit just right.
    Could someone please tell me if this is a limitation of Reporting Services 2005, or am I just doing something wrong?
    I need to know this because I am up against a deadline with this project. I had ran several tests with Reporting Services but had never had assumed there would be problems with image quality.
    Is there any other product that offers similar features to Microsoft Reporting Services that you could recommend?
    My luck has not been very good with this project, and I'm assuming the response is going to be 96DPI is all that is supported...

    OK,  I have managed to get higher quality images from the PDF renderer. Here is what I have found:
    1) The PDF renderer in Reporting Services 2005 will size all images that it is given at 96 DPI no matter what DPI the image is when you pass it to the renderer. That means that a 300 DPI image or even a 600 DPI image will be sized in the PDF as if it is only 96 DPI. That means your high DPI image will render much larger than you expect.
    So you might expect a 300 DPI image that is 6.5 inches wide to render properly at 1950 pixels. Yet, the PDF renderer will size it as it were 96 DPI which would make the image 20.3 inches long!
    2) There is good news though. Despite sizing the images as if they were 96 DPI, the PDF renderer appears to render higher DPI images at a higher quality than 96 DPI. So despite the sizing being wrong, the image actually is rendering at a higher quality.
    This means that you should size the image to the proper number of inches based on 96 DPI calculations. Then you can use Bitmap.SetResolution to set your images to at least 300 DPI.  That should give you a higher quality image that is the proper number of pixels to fit properly in your report.
    I am able to do all of this sizing dynamically because I am using objects as my data sources, but I am sure there are VB functions you could use in the report itself to accomplish the same task.
    It is late, and I've been at this project all day long, so forgive me if I have explained anything poorly or gotten any concepts long. Yet, at this late hour, I believe this is what the renderer is doing.
    I hope this helps someone else in the future, or at least points them in the right direction.

  • Reporting Services Auto Export to PDF on a shared location with dynamic filename

    Hi Guys,
    I have this ERP system that is calling a url with the Document No parameter, the link automatically converts to a PDF but comes up with the OPEN/SAVE/CANCEL box however i want to automatically save to a default location...is this possible?
    Secondly i need the filename to be saved as the Paramter Name and the date.pdf in the format DocumentNo- Datetime.pdf is this also possible?
    Thank you in Advance

    Hi Dan,
    According to your description, you want to export a report to PDF using URL access. And trying to export the report with specify name automatically without prompting the OPEN/SAVE/CANCEL box. The file name should come from the parameters of the report.
    For security reasons, it is not allowed to write files on a client computer (Shared folder), except for a few pieces of information in cookies.
    While using URL access to export a report, the exporting process will save the file with the report’s name automatically.
    In order to export the report to a specify folder with a specify name, we can send a request to the Report Server in custom application, and then receive the data from the Report Server. In the custom application, save the data to the specify folder with the specify name in server side.
    Please follow these steps to archive the target:
    1.       Create a C# Web application.
    2.       In the page_load event of a page, embed the following code:
    string URL = "http://localhost/Reportserver?/AdventureWorks Sample Reports/Employee Sales Summary";
                string Command = "Render";
                string Format = "PDF";
                //We can get values of these parameters from Request object.
                string paramReportMonth = "12";
                string paramReportYear = "2003";
                string paramEmpID = "288";
                URL = URL + "&rs:Command=" + Command + "&rs:Format=" + Format + "&ReportMonth=" + paramReportMonth + "&ReportYear=" + paramReportYear +"&EmpID=" + paramEmpID;
                System.Net.HttpWebRequest Req = (System.Net.HttpWebRequest) System.Net.WebRequest.Create(URL);
                Req.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
                Req.Method = "GET";
                //Specify the path for saving.
                string path = @"C:\" + paramEmpID + "-" + paramReportYear + "-" + paramReportMonth + @".pdf";
                System.Net.WebResponse objResponse = Req.GetResponse();
                System.IO.FileStream fs = new System.IO.FileStream(path, System.IO.FileMode.Create);
                System.IO.Stream stream = objResponse.GetResponseStream();
                byte[] buf = new byte[1024];
                int len = stream.Read(buf, 0, 1024);
                while (len > 0)
                    fs.Write(buf, 0, len);
                    len = stream.Read(buf, 0, 1024);
                stream.Close();
                fs.Close();
    3.       Use the URL of the above page with parameters to export a report to the specify folder with specify filename.
    E.g. http://<server>/custom application/export.aspx?parameterReportYear=2003&parametermonth=12&EmpId=288
    Of course, we can pass other parameters with the URL such as Format.
    Please feel free to ask, if you have any more questions.
    Thanks,

  • Append date to exporting file name in SQL reporting service

    When exporting a report to another format, say excel,PDF; the file name is always set to the report name. Our client has a requirement where whenever a user exports a report to pdf, the timestamp of when the data of the report was made should be appended in the filename. Is there a way to do this in Reporting Services as well as report builder?
    example : Report name : Testreport
    Exported file should be : Testreport-November-22-20076.pdf
    please help me in this
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I know it's been while since this question was posted. I am replying so that it'll be useful for other people when they come across this same situation.
    If you have access to SQL Server Agent to create jobs then this idea will be helpful -
    1. Connect to your Report Server from SSMS.
    2. Note the ItemID for your report by executing this query
    select *
    from ReportServer..Catalog
    where Path like '%NameofyourReport%'
    3. Create a job in here with the name say "AppendDatetoxyzreport" and add a step in it with the code
    UPDATE [Catalog]
    SET [Path] = '/PathofyourrerportfromReportServer/ReportName_' + CONVERT(VARCHAR(8), GETDATE(), 112),
    [Name] = '/ReportName_' + CONVERT(VARCHAR(8), GETDATE(), 112)
    WHERE ItemID ='<ItemID>'
    4. Create another job with a name like "RemoveDatexyzreport" and add a step in it with the code
    UPDATE [Catalog]
    SET [Path] = 'PathofyoureportinReportserver/ReportName',
    [Name] = 'ReportName''
    WHERE ItemID = '<ItemID>'
    5. Now set your AppendDatetoxyzreport job schedule to execute first, then the Report's subscription and then the RemoveDatexyzreport.
    By doing this the first job changes the name to include present date, then you get you report and the next job sets it back to its previous name.

    Hi brabe,
    Based on your description, it seems that it is not the VS IDE issue, just to make this issue clearly, whether this issue is related to the SSRS or the report control?
    If it is related to the SSRS like these threads
    here and
    here, my suggestion is that you could post this issue to the SSRS forum for dedicated support.

  • Xcelsius workgroup and reporting services: problem with export

    Hello,
    I'm evaluating Xcelsius workgroup with the trial version. I tried to use data from reporting service. I followed the steps in the white paper provided in the bo site.
    http://www.bobjects.com/email_imp/partners/nl_xcelsius/aug2006/ssrs_wp_final.pdf
    It works fine (in the preview). However, when I export my file that doesn't work anymore. The parameters'dropdown list aren't populated and when I click on the RS button, nothing appear... Did I miss something (export parameters)??? Is it because of the trial version ??
    Thanks in advance for your answers

    For someone that should have the same problem, the solution is to change the security settings of the flash player.

  • Report service and pdf

    Dear friends,
    I have a problem in 9iAS. I use Report service to run reports in IE. There are some chinese characters in the reports. While i set the target format to HTML, the output is OK, While the format is PDF, the chinese chartacters are malformed.
    I search related documents in OTN, but found nothing. Who can give me some advices?
    Thanks.

    Hi Joi
    The HTML output is working for you because your Browser is capable of displaying Chinese characters automatically (using document's encoding).
    However, PDF requires that you specify Multibyte characters (such as Chinese) in a different manner. You need to use either PDF Multibyte font aliasing feature or PDF Font Subsetting feature if you want to display Chinese characters in PDF.
    See:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/whitepapers/pdfenh.htm
    for more information on how to use this feature.
