Reporting the text entries

Hi all,
I want students to write in TEB and I want to recieve whatever they have typed in. I don't want to score them but I assume I have to include the TEB in a quiz to be able to report the entries.
I use Acrobat.com as the LMS platform, but the problem is that I can not see the entries there.
I use Captivate 5.0.
Please is there anyone who could help me with this? it is so urgent.
Thanks in advance

Hi Lilybiri,
Thanks for reply.
this is the quiz setting. like I said, it is a survery sort of question and I want to retain and report the answers that students enter in the TEB. this is not possible in Acrobat.com , is it? I just need the answers come through us.
What LMS do you use?
Many thanks

With Windows Explorer, navigate to your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.
Copy the SQLite3.dll that you should find there, navigate to the nearby Mobile Device Support folder, and Paste it in there also.
Restart the programme all should be well
In case that your OS is (64 bit)
    1. Open windows explorer, go to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    2. Copy file "SQLite3.dll"
    3. Now paste it in the folder  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
    4. Restart the programme, it should not display that message, it should be clear.
    Good Luck

  • First time I press the space-bar the text entry hangs for several seconds

    Hi,
When entering text, the first time I press the space-bar the text entry hangs for several seconds.
From then on, there are no problems when entering text.
iPhone 3G, iOS 4.2.1, no automatic correction and no spell checking.
    Thanks,
    Ofir

    Didn't resolve the problem
There was some duplicated fonts fixed, but there wasn't the problem.
Right now i'm writin this in Firefox and here is fine. Couldn't do this in Safari.
I did make a video showing the problem.
Also strange is the fact that in some tabs there isn't (aparently) the problem in Safari.
    Any other ideas?

  • How do we cope with the wretched performance of iphone4 with IOS 7.0.2. Before update it was working fine. Since, the text entry has 4 to 10 seconds buffered lag, and the impresssion is that the processor is overtaxed. Not at all acceptable for a compulso

Since compelled to take the IOS 7.0.2 "upgrade" I experience 4 - 10 second delays in text inputting. The keystrokes are buffered then displayed. Other signs suggest the processor is under way too much load.
I haev reduced the concurrent apps to 1. turned off location services, most notifications etc etc .
It occurs like this on Twitter and FB, and IM and simple text messages.
Clearly the software is too processor intensive for iPhone 4
    Will this be addressed?
Are there more configurations I acn adopt to manage the overload?
I think I ve turned everything off that I can without shutting down the 3G fundctions WiFi and phone.
My smartphone has been rendered dumb by the Apple Core
Needs fixing or I'll shop for a Samsung neXt

    reset all settings

  • When I try to start a new message in iOS 6, I cannot select the text entry area after putting the person I want to send it to. What's going on?

I can only write in a text that has already been started or received. Or I have to go to contacts and select new message. Any ideas why?

Check Settings>Messages>Show Subject Field and make sure it's set to "Off".

  • How can I get a click box to interact with a text entry box on the same page?

I'm creating a tutorial on using a specific system and trying to recreate what the end user would actual do in the system.  On one slide, the end user must enter text into a field, then press a button (click box) to advance to the next slide.  I want to be able to have the click box validate if the text entry is correct before advancing to the next slide.  Is there a way to get the click box to validate the text entry?  Not sure how to get the two objects to "talk" to each other rather than function independently.
Literally, I want the end user to enter the data in the text entry box, then click on the Get button.  I need the Get button (click box) to both validate that the data entered in the text entry box is correct and, if it is, advance to the next slide.  If the data is incorrect, I need the Get button (click box) to show the failure caption and have the end user re-enter the data correctly.
How do I get the objects to work together?

    Hi there
You need to delete the Click Box. Yes, you heard me. Delete the puppy.
I  know it sounds weird. But bear with me. After you delete it, double-click the Text Entry Box. Then click the Options tab. See that option called Show Button? Click it and click OK to dismiss the TEB properties.
Now you have the button you want. If you don't want a button, double-click it and set it as transparent. Remove the text. Position as desired where the Click Box was before.

  • How to hide the cursor in text entry boxes

I didn't see this answer in the forum, and it took a while to figure this out so I thought I'd post my
    solution.
The issue is that a question requires that the user know where to click before typing, then type the correct value.
The problem is that a text entry field shows the cursor; a dead give-away as to where the user is supposed to type.
    My solution is:
    1) Hide the text entry box (give it a name and uncheck 'Visible' in the options).
    2) Add a transparent button (with default text if needed) over the area where the user must click.
         - Set the 'Success' option to 'Show', and make the 'Show' item the name of your text entry box.
         - Disable all captions (unless they get points for clicking in the right place).
    3) Set the object timing so the button displays until clicked, then end the button display.  Start the display of the text entry field immediately after the end of the button display.
The effect is that the user clicks the correct area, then the cursor displays in the correct location, ready for the text entry.

    Brilliant!
You get a gold star for this idea.  Very original thinking.

  • How to validate the number of characters in Text Entry box?

    Hi
I have inserted a text entry box and assigned a variable (UserName) to it. Now, I need to limit the entry to a maxinum number of 20 characters. In other words, how do I validate the number of characters in the text entry box and provide feedback if it is more than 20 characters?

    Thanks.
I have posted this as a query on the relevant post on Jim's website. I am too new to regular expressions. I hope he will help with an example as well.

  • Text Entry Boxes and their content not being captured in Automatic Recording

I have searched the forums here and elsewhere extensively and whilst I have found people with similar issues, I have yet to find a solution. My problem is this:
I am trying to record myself using a piece of software which contains numerous text fields. In the past, when using Captivate 3, I would simply fill out these fields and Captivate would record my entries automatically. When the project was played back, the training simulation would pause and allow the user to type in the text field and provided the entry matched the options I had defined, the simulation would continue to the next step.
So, my colleague and I have since bought Adobe Tech. Comms. Suite 2 and have upgraded Captivate 3 to version 4. Ever since doing this we have both been unable to successfully capture text entry boxes with their content when recording automatically in any mode. We have checked and triple checked the settings to make sure that the automatic capture of text entry in fields is turned on yet we still cannot get Captivate to perform this task it once so easily could. We both suffer from the same problem on both of our installations of Captivate 4. We have tried recording in all modes with no success.
I am tearing my hair out as I need to come up with some sample content for a major Governmental client which would be worth a 5 figure sum to my company and I really don't relish having to manually create every text entry box as there are a LOT of them in this application!
I have also reported this as a bug to Adobe using the correct form. As yet, no response.
I would really appreciate any genuine help that can be offered by you guys.
    In desperation,
    Rob.

Ok, I think I've sussed it!
I've been pulling my hair out for weeks on this and after posting on here, I decided to try something and I think I may have found the problem.
I work with a laptop as I am a Trainer and therefore quite mobile. When I'm in the office, I dock my laptop and use the Extended Desktop functionality of Windows so I have my laptop screen and a second 19" monitor which i find incredibly useful as screen real estate is always at a premium. And this is where I believe the problem lies.
I performed a simple test and have repeated this test with identical outcomes everytime. Here is what I did. I fired up Captivate and Outlook and opened up a new mail window in Outlook. I then set Captivate to record the new mail window and hit record. I typed some text into the To field and the Subject field and then stopped the recording. I then previewed the results. When the new mail window was on my primary screen, (i.e the laptop) the Text Entry Box recording worked 100% fine. However, if the new mail screen was residing on my secondary screen, i.e. the monitor, the Text Entry Box recording failed!
So it would seem that Captivate 4 has an issue with seeing the text entered on a secondary monitor when Windows is running in Extended Desktop mode. I am absolutely certain this wasn't an issue with Captivate 3 as I created plenty of content without any of these problems and I was using the Extended Desktop back then.
So, if anyone else is having the same issue, and you are running an Extended Desktop, try what I did above.
In the meantime, I am raising this issue with Adobe in the hope they can get this fixed, but at least now I can carry on with my content creation
    Regards,
    Rob.

  • Text Entry Box not showing all text

I am creating a simple exercise where I would like the user to copy text from the course, paste it into word, and report back what the word count is.  I thought perhaps the Text Entry Box would be the best way to go, since if you click on the existing (default) text, you can copy it.  However after I place the paragraph of text in the box, and resize in the editor so that all the text shows, it does not show all the text when playing back, either previewd or published.  It only shows the last few words of the last line at the top of the box.
Is there something I am missing?  Or, is there an easier/better way to do what I need?
    Thanks

    Hi all
If this is Captivate 4, there may not be any need for a widget to do this. I'm guessing you haven't tried enabling the Scroll Bar for the Text Entry Box (TEB)?
When I just plop a TEB on a slide, I get this in edit view:
During playback it looks like this:
But if I edit the TEB properties and enable the Show Scrollbar option:
I get this in the output:

  • Can I have multiple text entry boxes on one slide?

Can I have multiple text entry boxes on one slide, each with it's own possible answer without having to have a separte submit button for each?
Message was edited by: Suzanne Petty

I'm using Captivate 5 - I'm thinking I would like to put two or three text entry boxes on one slide - say labeled Name, Email and Company I'd like to have any answer be accepted, yet I still want to have the answers included with the quiz reporting for our main quiz which I set up using a question pool.
I understand I can uncheck the validate user input box in the general menu in the property inspector, but that also makes the reporting menu inactive for the text entry box.
Is there a way to make validate user input accept any answer that is typed in the box, but still have the answers reported with my quiz?
    Thanks

  • How do I show a hand cursor for a text entry box button

I'm using Captivate 5 and have run into an annoying problem...
For a general click box, there is an option for "Show hand cursor over hit area" which will result in the cursor changing to a hand when rolling over the click box region in the published presentation.  I want to do the same for the 'submit' button in the text entry box. Is this even possible?  I'm hoping to keep things consistent as a user is clicking through the presentation.
I find it odd that it doesn't have the same property as found on the clickbox considering it has the same purpose.  I'm using a background screenshot image to simulate an entry in an application, so I'm actualy hiding the submit button, but the button I want them to press lacks the hand cursor that would indicate it is clickable.  I don't want to use a click box to allow the user to move on because I still want a failure in the text entry box to prevent the user from moving on.
    Hope that all makes sense.

    Hi there
Another approach is to use a Rollover Caption. Just remove any text and configure the caption as transparent. Then layer the Rollover area over the part where you want the hand to change to a cursor. The net effect will be that the cursor change will occur. Clicking will then result in triggering the underlying Submit button, which appers to be invisible and layered over an image.

  • Text Entry fields in Training mode to Typing field in Demo mode

My SME has decided she doesn't want the learners to actually type in a bunch of fields in the Training sim I'm making and instead wants them to be shown the fields being filled in for them, like the way Captivate does in Demo mode.  Is there a way to quickly and easily change Text Entry fields in a Training sim to the Typing format from Demo mode?  Does that even make sense?  HELP!  I'm using Captivate 4 and will be outputing to Flash to embed into an Articulate presentation.  Thanks!

    Hi there
Probably the best you can hope for is to copy the text to the Windows Clipboard. Then delete the Text Entry Box object and insert a Text Animation. You have two to choose from for just basic typing.
    Typing Text
    Typing Text with Sound
Then you would paste the copied text as the text to be typed and configure the font characteristics as necessary.

  • Text entry not recording

Help please. Using Captivate 4 to capture an internal system.  Using training mode.  Whilst capturing the text entries are clicking ok but on Preview the text entry box isn't there. Checked settings and it works in all other applications I capture but not the one I want to capture.  I'm using my normal laptop logged on as me bt have to liog on to a test area with a test ID log on.  All other aspects of the capture e.g. click boxes are working fine but it doesn't pick up the text entries I type.  Any suggestions please?  Thanks.  Ps have tried a different laptop and same happens!

I have found that this happens from time to time with certain applications that seem to use technologies Captivate has trouble "listening to".  If Cp doesn't understand the events dispatched by the application, it won't know that it is supposed to capture or add a clickbox or text entry box at that point.
One of the worst apps I used to find this happen to was SAP.  I think SAP doesn't follow the Microsoft world's particular conventions, so Cp found it difficult to see the events and objects to capture.
Either way, the best solution I found was just to use CP to capture everything you can and then add the other elements when you are editing.  Not a big drama.

  • How can I display the texts that the user just typed in?

Hello all, I am  using Captivate 5.5 and I am trying to realize this function:
Have a text entry box for the user to type in their answers (can be a paragph and up to 400 words etc.), then the user clicks on the submit button and they will be able to read what they just typed in on the left of the screen, and the sample answer given by the course.
In order to realize this, I placed one text entry box and make the value associate to a customized variable of "log_1". Then I have two text captions:
one named "log_1_answer" and inside of it I put $$log_1; the other one named "log_1_sample". Both text captions are set to invisible at the enter of the slide.  Then I have the advanced action for the submit button of the text entry box as "show log_1_answer; show log_1_sample; hide text_entry_log1"
When I previewed it, I got all logistics work. However, the texts that were shown in the text caption of log_1_answer only were only 15 letters.
I wonder whether there is a restriction for the length of variables in Captivate that we can display? If so, is there other possible ways that I can realize what I want to do?
    Thanks for any suggestions.
Here is the screenshot of my stage: the biggest white one with the submit button is the text entry box. The box with red borders is the display box, and the blue gray one on the right is to show the samle answer by the instructor.

    Hello,
When you insert the user variable, watch the length in the dialog box. Default is indeed 15 characters, you'll have to change that as I did in this example. Too bad, you cannot change it after inserting the variable.
