Reports 6i and Report Server 9iDS

Hello there,
I have two questions:
1- Does Report Server in 9iDS runs reports faster then running reports in Reports 6i (without Report Server).
2- Can I use Report Server 9iDS in Reports 6i on same Machine?
If yes then How?

I think i made mistake in representing my question no 2.

I need to connect to a SQL Server 2000 database from within Report Builder (for a proof of concept) and I am getting error 62000-Failed to connect to datasource.

I have Downloaded Oracle 9iDS Rel2 and Oracle 9i AS J2EE and Web Cache. They are installed in the same Oracle Home.
I have modified the REPORTS_CLASSPATH with the datadirect jar files and the j2ee oc4j.jar.
The oc4j.jar is in my system classpath.
I have added the classpath definition with jars to my rwserver.conf.
I start Report Builder select JDBC Query
enter my connect info:
Username: user
Passowrd: pwd
Database: dbname
and select the merant-sqlserver driver from the list.
What am I doing wrong?
I have been at this a week can anyone help?

Hi Jeanne
1. When you run the report to paper design from builder, you need to add the necessary jar file of driver to REPORTS_CLASSPATH env variable in registery.
2. To run the report from report server and to generate to file from report builder, you need to add the jar files via classPath attribute of engine element in server/builder conf file. It would be like this
<engine id="rwEng" .....classPath="<yr classpath>" >
3. Have a look at jdbcpds.conf file in OH/reports/conf dir. This file need to have the driver information for the driver you are using. The entry here also specifies the connect sting format which is required by the driver. You need to refer to driver doc for connect string format.
Once you have all this set up ready, run the report. You need to mention the connect string in same format as specified in driver info in jdbcpds.conf file.

Installing All (9iDB,9iDS and report server) in same machine

I want to use one machine only.
I have installed 9i database, and on same 9iDS.
and created a report server on same machine
i am facing a problem
all application runs very fine but on running report from
forms by using webs.show_document()
a new page comes and states
Opening page http://server1:8888/reports/rwservlet/getjobid..
and hangs there only.and it hang such that after closing the page
application also does not work.i have to restart OC4J
i have seen in trace file report finished successfully
and also in report\cache directory report file is alreasy made.
now when i install 9iDS in another machine and use the other machine as application server,report server be in
any machine it work fine.
all report are displayed. no problem comes in that case.
But i have to use only one machine .
pls state me solution

Uuencoding on 9iDS reports server

Hi,
Report Bursting have been used to create multiple emails with PDF attachments on 9iDS. This is all working according to plan, however, we're finding some users have specified email addresses to outlook servers which cannot see 7-bit uuencoded files (8 bit encoding is more common).
Our mail server admin has checked that the mail message generated from 9iDS is in fact 7-bit uuencoded, and some destination emails are seeing the email, but cannot view the attachement.
Does anyone know how to change this? Is it possible to change?

Sorry Don. I got the answers after putting a support call. To benefit others who might come across this thread, here are the answers.
1. How do I tell which SP of Crystal Reports Server I am running?
Answer: You have to look at the GAC or the file version of the dll's in the managed folders to know which version. I had a document which lists the file version to the SP and I cant find it now, I will post it later.
2. I had to manually add the references in the project properties and had to manually browse to the folders where CR was installed and pick them from the Common\Managed folders. Depending upon the version of Crystal and SP, you might have to the correct folder because there is I believe 2.8(?), 3.5 and 4.0(?)
3. The local website was not added as trusted website in the Internet Options under Security, thats why it was not coming up in the browsewr, but when I did that, everything worked fine.One other way to verify is Go to IIS Management console and then go to the site where the CR is installed (usually the default website) and expand it, and then click on business objects and then click on folders and see if you can browse right there)

Report Server in 9iDS

Hi,
I read the http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/whitepapers/oc4j_ids/howToReportsServicesIds.htm document but it didn't solve my problem.
I would run a report from a form, using run_report_object in a test environmental. If I don't start a report server, what I have to put within Report Server property on Report Object in the form?
How can I refer <in-process Report Server>?

You have to refer the server name when using the in-process server when running a report from the form. This is required.
The in-process servername is of the syntax 'Rep_machinename' . Eg. If my machine name is abc.xy.com, then the in-process server would be Rep_abc

How to configure report server in 9iDS

I am usin P4 and trying to configure report server for 9iDS. But, surprisingly there is no conf file in the \orant\reports\server path after complete installation of 9iDS.
How should I configure the report server?

we released a new whitepaper last week about configuring the reports services with iDS for testing your reports. you can find this whitepaper in the reports section here on OTN.
however. you can either create the reports config file manually or it is created automatically for you if you start up a server and there is no corresponding config file already defined.

What to specfify in CA Reporting services integration (Report server web service URL) when using SSL for both SharePoint and SSRS?

We are using Sharepoint 2010 and SQL Server reporting services 2008 R2.    We have the sharepoint site bound to port 443 using a certificate.   We also have the same certificate bound in the reporting services configuration manager's
web service URL tab.    In CA should we put the SSL URL or the non SSL URL?    Right now in CA it has the then non SSL URL,
http://fakehostname/ReportServer_REPORTSERVICE.     We have some sporadic issues and I am wondering if setting this to our SSL URL will help.    Please let me know

I have tested on my local environment and can reproduce the issue, as
Vaishu00547 mentioned that the issue can be caused by the Execution Account you have configured in the Reporting Services Configuration Manager is not correct, Please update the Username and Password and restart the reporting services.
Please also find more details information about when to use the execution account, if possible,please also not specify this account:
This account is used under special circumstances when other sources of credentials are not available:
When the report server connects to a data source that does not require credentials. Examples of data sources that might not require credentials include XML documents and some client-side database applications.
When the report server connects to another server to retrieve external image files or other resources that are referenced in a report.
Execution Account (SSRS Native Mode)

Report Server 6i and Portal 3.0

I read through several white papers including "Security Tips in Oracle Reports Services Release 6i with Oracle Portal Release 3.0" and tried to start Reports server with no success but maybe I'm misunderstanding how it works. So I have the following questions:
1. We are running reports server on the same server as Oracle Portal and do not have any printers assign to this W2K server which is outside our fire wall. Will Reports server start with no printers assigned? I read out on metal link in Note: 109399.1 "It is no longer necessary to have the reports server service running on an account having a printer installed."
2. We only have port 80 open for the apache web listener. However the tnsnames.ora file requires an entry for the report server with a port=1949. Does this port need to be open?
3. Do you know how I can check to see which ports are available on W2K? Which are being used? IS there a dos command?
4. Is Report Server required to run Oracle Reports 6i through Portal 3.0 with SSO?

1 - There is still a bug pending on this, so you may need to assign a default printer. This may be your issue of why you are unable to get the reports server running.
2 - No, port 1949 is only used between the reports cgi/servlet and the reports server. The communication between the client and the reports cgi/servlet is done on the http you are using (in your case, port 80).
3 - Don't know of any such utility or dos command to find our which ports are in use or available.
4 - Yes, you must have the reports server running to run Oracle Reports 6i through Portal 3.0. 6i is not using sso.

Report server 6i and Report services 10g

what is the extra features in Report Services 10g which are not available in Report server 6i.
why would we use AS report services 10g rather then report server 6i,and our only requirment is to run oracle report on web which can fulfill with the help of reports server 6i.

How to add a new font into Report Builder and Oracle Forms/Reports Server?

I've searched the forum and can't find this being discussed.
My developers run Report Builder 10.1.2.0.2 on their XP laptops.
Their reports run (in production) on Oracle Forms/Reports Server 10.1.2.0.2.
This server runs on MS Windows 2003, SP2.
They've got a client who wants reports using the "Garamond Western" font.
So....how do I get this font onto the developer's Report Builder laptops, and onto the Oracle Forms/Reports Server?
I've moved various 'Garamond' fonts into C:\WINDOWS\FONTS on both the laptops and the server, but neither seem to recognize it.

This answers 1/2 of my question.
The developer can now use Report Builder on his laptop, with the new fonts.
But when he moves this new Report to the Oracle Application Server/Forms-Reports Server, it fails to use the new fonts.
The Oracle App Server/Forms-Report Server is Version 10.1.2.0.2. It runs on MS Windows 2003, SP2.
I have installed the exact same fonts on this server, into C:\WINDOWS\Fonts.
I have used REGEDIT to change REPORTS_PATH....and placed C:\WINDOWS\Fonts; as the first value in this field.
I have then stopped and restarted the Forms-Reports Server.

PDFs generated by our Fusion 11g Reports Server do not look correct on iPhone and some Chrome machines

We auto generate PDF reports from our Oracle Fusion Report Server running on Windows. The PDFs look fine on our Windows machines but they lose their formatting on iPhones, iPads and even some Windows Chrome browsers. I checked the Properties of the PDF and fast-web view is disabled on the PDFs. Has anyone had this issue and found a solution? I am trying to find where I can modify the PDF settings so I can perhaps try to embed fonts or play with the settings to see if anything makes a difference.

Error calling Report and unable to bind Report Server

Hi,
I use Oracle Database 10g with Oracle Developer 10.1.2, in Windows 2000.
I don't have nor use Oracle Application Server though.
I tried to call a report from a Form, using Run_Report_Object.
But the following error appeared.
Error FRM-41213 Unable to connect to Report Server rep_<computer_name>
I also tried to call a report, using Web.Show_Document.
It launch another web browser, but the following error occured
REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server rep_<computer_name> failed
Based on the white paper of Oracle Application Server 10g - Integrating Oracle Reports in Oracle Forms Services applications.
I create my own report server using following command
rwserver server=repsrv.
Another java-based windows showed up. It shows that the server 'repsrv' is ready.
I do the following:
1. Navigate to http://localhost:8889/reports/rwservlet using web browser.
It showed OracleAS Report Services - Servlet Command Help page.
But there is no other window popup (The white paper stated that a 'in process' server
should be invoked when starting a report for the first time).
2. Navigate to http://localhost:8889/reports/rwservlet?userid=PRACTICE/PRTC@MYDB&report=C:\PRACTICE\FORM\MODULE1.JSP&destype=cache&desformat=html&paramform=no&p_1=P1&p_1=P2
my schema is PRACTICE, password PRTC and database instance MYDB
the report path = C:\FORM\MODULE1.JSP
The following error occured
REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server rep_<computer_name> failed
3. Finally, I tried
http://localhost:8889/reports/rwservlet?server=REPSRV&userid=PRACTICE/PRTC@MYDB&report=C:\PRACTICE\FORM\MODULE1.JSP&destype=cache&desformat=html&paramform=no&p_1=P1&p_1=P2
The following error occured

I don't understand.
It seems that the Report Service is not recognized although the java-based window state that the Report Server (repsrv) is ready.
My questions:
1. Does it means that my report server is not running?
Or it is running but the web browser didn't recognize it?
I use Internet Explorer 5 and Netscape 7, both of them showed the same error message.
2. The paper said there is supposed to be 2 type of server, 'In process' and custom server.
Both of them will create a configuration file in /reports/conf in DevSuiteHomeDirectory.
I can see the custom report server's configuration file which I create using rwserver
(repsrv.conf)
but I can't see the 'in process' server's configuration file (rep_<computer_name>.conf).
What am I supposed to do?
3. Is there any steps with I supposed to do after the installation?
Well, I didn't find any error during the installation, everything seems to be just fine.
Perhaps, I need to modify some files, specifya report server name,
create the 'in process' server manually.

I have already tried your suggestion.
Since I am in Windows 2000 platform, so I do the first suggestion from the documentation.
If the host machine is not in a network (that is, it is a standalone machine).
Solution for Windows platform: Install the MS loopback adapter, as described on the Miscrosoft Web site (http:\\microsoft.support.com). Then, specify an IP address for your machine (either XP or Windows 2000), as follows:
1. On your desktop, right-click My Network Places, and choose Properties.
2. Right-click the MS loopback adapter, and choose Properties.
3. In the Properties dialog box, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and click Properties.
4. Select Use the following IP address, and enter a valid IP address. The subnet mask field will automatically populate. Do not use the local host IP (that is, 127.0.0.1). For example, enter: 198.162.1.1.
5. Click OK, and follow the instructions displayed.
There is also solution for UNIX platform.
But I do the Solution for Windows platform only.
But still I've got the following error message :
REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server rep_<computer_name> failed
And in the command line of OC4J which I started, the following error appeared :
Not able to load oracle.reports.util.EnvironmentGlobal class
Using oracle.reports.util.Environment class
BTW,
I also tried to use the command lin rwrun :
rwrun report="D:\My Documents\TryReport\module1.jsp" userid=scott/tiger@orcl destype=file desformat=pdf desname="D:\My Documents\TryReport\module1.pdf"
And somehow a PDF file appeared.
It contains the output of the report I created.
It exactly the same as the preview of the web layout which is run from Report Builder (Run Web Layout CTRL-R).
Could this mean that the In-Process server is running?
Perhaps the browser did not understand how to connect to Report Server?
Is there anything should be done?
Should I also do the Solution for UNIX platform? (Mine is Windows)
And, why for Oracle Form (running as a servlet), everything seems to be normal?
Does the Oracle Form use different server from Oracle Report?
The problem is only when I tried to call report using a button inside Oracle Form.
(Run_Report_Object and Web.Show_Document)

Crystal Report Server Backup and Recovery problem

I have a problem on the backup Crystal Report Server
My Environment:
- Windows Server 2003
- Crystal Report Server XI R2
- MySQL Database for Central Management Server System Tables(Default setting in the Crystal Report Server installation)
- Tomcat (Default seting in the Crystal Report Server installation)
I stop the Central Management Server before backup.
I run the following command to backup Central Management Server System Table:
mysqldump --user=root --password=pass1234 boe115 > C:\CMSBackup.sql
It is ok to generate CMSBackup.sql file.
After backup, I re-install the Crystal Report Server and run the following command to restore Central Management Server System Table:
mysqldump --user=root --password=pass1234 boe115 < C"\CMSBackup.sql
After finish the restore process, I cannot found my setting on the Central Management Server System.
Any backup step i missed ?

Also I had upload reports to Crystal Report Server, but i cannot found above information after I restore the MySQL CMS database.

How to Create A standalone Report Server and replce by in process server

I am new to oracle reports 10g, I have installed oracle applicaction server 10.1.2.0.2 on RHEL4 now i want to create a standalone report server and replace it by the in-process report server . I searched the net to get a proper step by step guide to do the above but dint got the same can anybody guide to step by step process to do the same and also file which are to be edited i user sh rwserver.sh -install server name bath=yes command and sh rwserver.sh server name bath=yes & commad to start it but i am not able to see the same in the enterprise manager . Thanks in advance...
Also please tell me if it is recommeded by oracle to replace the standalone by inprocess server.
