Repository Reports (Designer 10.1.2.5) on Windows 7

I've been running Designer for years with much satisfaction. About 9 months ago I upgraded to Windows 7 and can no longer run any Repository Reports. I am running Designer Version 10.1.2.5 with Configuration 4.0.12.101.0 running on Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production.
When I run any Repository Reports, they fail with a Windows 7 pop-up message saying "Reports Runtime has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program." followed by another pop-up that "CDI-21338: No results to preview".
I went through the process of re-installing Designer but no improvement. Do I need a new version of Reports Runtime? Where should I get it from?

Do you have Windows 7 32bit or 64bit? Oracle Designer is only supported on 32bit Windows (supported does not mean it will not work on 64bit windows)
Have a look at metalink/My Oracle Support note: "Error CDI-21338 When Running Repository Reports [ID 295618.1]" since the error can have several causes.

  • Embeddable Report Designer Control with Windows 7

I have a couple of questions.
I am using Crystal Report XI in both Vb6 and VS2005. I am using the COM controls in both. The CRViewer and the Embeddable Report Designer Control. This has been working in XP fine. Not so good in Vista or Windows 7. I am upgrading to Crystal Reports XI R2 Sp6. For viewing reports in VB6 and VS2005 this working fine.
I know that the Embeddable designer no longer exists in future Crystal Report versions or in the .net versions.
In VS2005 the Embeddable Report Designer Control does not work in windows 7.
Is there anything new that needs to be in the code then in the previous versions? What do I need to do to make the Embeddable Report Designer Control work with windows 7 correctly?
Also I will need the merge modules for Crystal Reports XI R2 Sp6 for both the .net and RDC. Are they avalible?
I need to be able to modify reports within the application. My clients have to be able modify existing reports to match state and federal laws and rules.

Crystal Reports XI R2 Sp6 supports WIN 7, so it should work, though as far as I am concerned, the Embeddable Report Designer Control was always flaky. Also, it may be possible (perhaps even likely) that the RDC components were not tested by QA on WIN 7.
What is the actual issue you are seeing? (errors, behavior, etc.)
Are you seeing the issue on a development computer or after you deploy the runtime? I am assuming this is your dev box as you are asking about CR XI SP6 msm files, but I have to be sure.
If at all possible, do not use the RDC in .NET. The RDC was never tested in .NET and thus is not supported. It may work, but using the Embeddable Report Designer Control in .NET gives me the creeps...
See if you can get this to work in VB 6 first. If not, you at least have an escalation path for a fix. You do not have an escalation path with RDC in .NET. Please note that if a fix is accepted by R&D, the usual time frame for release of a fix is 6+ months.
For the future, you will have to look into using the RAS report creation APIs in .NET. This will give you similar report creation abilities at runtime as the Embeddable Report Designer.

  • Error running Table Definition (cktci) Repository Report in Designer 10G

    Hi
There seems to be some internal limitation when running the Table Definition Repository Report (cktci).
We have over a thousand tables defined in Designer and if I try to run the report for all tables it falls over with the reports.log saying
    REP-0069: Internal error
    REP-57054: In-process job terminated:Terminated with error:
    REP-271504897: Error executing CA utility.
    REP-3335: Unhandled Internal CA Error.
    caxml 2
REP-0002: Unable to retrieve a string from the Report Builder message file.
    REP-271504897:
    Not very useful information.
If the report is run using a smaller subset of tables. For example if I use a parameter of A% for the table name then it works OK.
I have been able to create reports up to about 600 pages but after that it falls over. So if I try to run the report with a parameter like S% it will fall over.
Just wondering if anyone else has come across this issue and found a fix.
There is the obvious workaround of running the report for smaller subsets of data but we would like it to be able to run for all tables if possible.
    Any feedback appreciated.
    Regards,
    Adrian

Sorry for the slow reply. I've been trying a number of different things to get this to work.
I reinstalled Developer as suggested but we don't have a patched version so there were no additional patches to apply. I re-ran the installer anyway to see if it would update anything.
I couldn't find any reference to Developer patches that might fix this issue in metalink.
I also tried messing with the JVM options to give it more memory etc but that didn't help.
After using the Designer diagnostics trace I got the arguments it uses to run the same report from the command line.
This resulted in the same issue. So at least it was consistent from Designer as well as the command line.
This suggests it is a reports issue rather than Designer.
Running the reports trace didn't provide any extra information. Found a bug that suggested changing any formula columns to not return NULL.
Tried updating the report to fix that too but no joy.
I will post here if I discover the solution.

Hi, I4m not sure, but maybe it works,in WHEN OTHERS zone, to make commit after the insert in the table where you want the errors to log. You can make commit in a trigger if you specify in the declaration zone of the trigger:

  • Repository reports cannot generate HTML report

    Hello
In our Computing Labs, we have Oracle9i Designer installed on Windows XP Professional.
Our students are having a problem when they try to Run Report in Repository Reports.
The student first sees an error message for Internet Explorer that says "Cannot find "file:///c:/docume~1/%username%/LOACLS~1/Temp/ck*.tmp.html". Make sure...". %username% of course being the current user and ck* being the filename of the report.
If the user examines the contents of ~/Local settings/Temp, they will see that when this error message comes up, there is a file ck*.tmp (no HTML extension). The HTML file is never generated though.
When the user click on the OK button for the error message, Internet Explorer open to a blank page. When IE is closed, Repository Reports posts a message that says "CDI-21309: Unable to delete file c:\docume~1\%username%\locals~1\Temp\ck*.tmp.html". When the OK button from this message is clicked the user is returned to Repository Reports, but the report is never generated.
Our users are set up as Dynamic Local Users, and are members of the Power Users group. We do have some pretty tight restrictions on Group Policy.
When a user who is a member of Administrators (also dynamic local user) logs in and attempts to create a report, (s)he has no problem. Repository Reports functions exactly as it should.
I have already given Power Users complete access to all files on the hard drive, so I don't think it could be an NTFS file permission issue.
If anyone has any advice, it is certainly welcome. Our students need to be able to print off these reports for classes, and I am not familiar at all with Designer.
    Thank you very much

Here is how I resolved my problem with non admin users not being able to run reports.
    Designer 9i ver 9.0.2.80.6
    Repository Reports ver 9.0.2.80.4
Problem - When non Administrator users try to generate a report in Repository Reports, they either get a file not found error for the HTML report (and IE will not show the report) or Repository Reports stops responding (and rwrun.exe has to be manually killed).
    Fixes
-%TMP% and %TEMP% environment variables must resolve to paths that are fewer than 30 characters. In our environment (WindowsXP with Novell Dynamic Local Users), %TMP% and %TEMP% were the temp folders in the user's profile, which is a long path. Changing the environment variables to point to c:\temp was one step in resolving the issue. Although there is a patch released related to this, my installed version is post-patch and I still had to change the temp environment variables.
-HKLM\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\HOME0\REPORTS_TMP must be set to a writable area for the user group using Designer and Reports. In our environment it was set (during install) to the local administrators temp space (in administrators local profile) - I'd guess it gets set to whatever %TMP% or %TEMP% is for whichever user installs the application. Our users cannot write to this folder, so setting this registry value to c:\temp was another step in resolving the issue.
-c:\OraHome1\reports\logs must be writable for whichever user group is running Reports. Before making this change but after making the previous two changes, reports would simply freeze for Power Users. When trying to log off, rwrun.exe had to be manually killed - and sometimes a Dr Watson report would come up and ask to be sent in. By granting the user group that uses Reports write permissions to this folder (or the equivalent in your environment), Repositry Reports no longer freezes and successfully generates the HTML report.

  • Report Designer question

    Hi,
We have problem creating queries in Report Designer
Our project has BI 7.0, Enterprise Portal, PI and ECC installed on different servers by NetWeaver team. When we open the Report Designer from the START->Business Explorer->Report Designer, we get the initial screen of Report Designer. But we can’t create any queries and getting some Java connection communication issues.
Do we need to have Java Stack on BI 7.0 to use the report designer? My understanding is that when we go for BI 7.0 , Enterprise Portal is delivered by SAP as a package. Here in our project we have EP installed but still could not able to create the reports on Report Designer.
Any help resolving this issue is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hello Murphy,
Are you getting RFC error, if so please refer SAP note 917950 .
or You can test the RFC connection in SM59.
If the connection is very slow better restart the Java Engine (J2EE)

  • Graphic/Image not displayed with conditional formatting in Report Designer

We are facing problems with displaying an image in a conditional formatting in the Report Designer. The image itself is in the mime repository and can be displayed in the report if no conditional formatting is used. But if it is used the image doesn't appear in the report.
    Backend setup: SP 8
Frontend setup: Patch 8, hotfix 2, Revision 95
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Sven

    Hi,
I could not reproduce your problem in internal SP8 system. Also images in rows with conditional formatting are displayed.
Do you get any errors after the execution in the portal?
Try to use exactly the same image in both rows (drag-and-drop with CTRL key pressed).
If then your problem still occurs, open a customer message. Describe your problem in detail and write technical name of the report you used.

  • Steps for Getting Repository Reports to Work in SCM 9024

Have installed Des9i/SCM 9024. With this install, repository reports are not installed without the base release of O9iDS R2. What are the exact steps for getting the Designer Repository Reports to work via the RON in SCM 9024? Basically, I would like to have the Repository Reports option 'enabled' in the RON.
Does 9iDS 902 have to be installed in an Oracle Home first, and then install SCM into the same OH? I would rather not have to install the entire iDS just to be able to have object reporting in SCM.

  • Run Option disabled in Repository Reports

I am using a fresh install of Oracle 9i 9.2.0.1.0 on XP Pro and Designer 9i 9.0.2.7. Everything functions perfectly until I attempt to run Repository Reports. The Report Navigator responds and I can select the container and diagram for a report, however the run button and options are disabled. Regardless of what report I attempt to run I cannot get the run option to be enabled.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Keith

    Keith,
Do you have Oracle Reports installed on the same machine? You need this to run the repository reports. You can check by running the Oracle Universal Installer and clicking the Installed Products button then navigate down the hierarchy.

    Hello !
I have problems with Repository Reports tool from Oracle Designer 6i. I want to save a previewed reports in RTF format, but when I use the command "generate to file" of the previewer, I get an error REP-0999 (unimplemented error with no more explanations). Im using Oracle Designer 6i in version 6.5.52.1.0 and Repository Reports in version 6.5.52.2.0.
Maybe I dont have a requested module, where can I get it ? can anyone help ?
    thanks in advance,

    Hi Sylvain,
I'm having similar problem. When I'm trying to run any of the Repository report it is moaning saying REP-0736 There are uncompiled program units. After compiling thry Report builder I get ORA-600 error but not able to successfully run any report. Wonder why ?
I'm having same versions as yours.

    Nitin Hi !
My problem occurs when I try to generate a previewed report to a RTF file. At the same time, the "Report Builder" menu item from the "run" menu is disabled. Maybe I have to install Oracle Reports ? should I download it from Oracle web site ?

  • Repository Reports problem

    Hi!
    I've Designer 9.0.2.2 and Oracle Server 8i (on Win2k).
I want to use Repository Reports to print my application system.
I've chosen the report, then I've set the parameters but I can't obtain a single page in output, whatever report I can try.
The report isn't in the output directory and the browser can't open it (gives an error like: /dir/ckxxx.tmp.html not found)
The Reports Builder works well and I can produce a report. But I have no idea of what to do with Repository Reports.
The output directory is writeable. I've reinstalled Designer (the software only), upgraded, activated the logs and followed the operations (but I don't know how to launch the report with its parameters in the "cmd.exe" shell).
Can anyone suggest me any idea?

Thank you for the tip, but the destination dir is C:\temp and the TMP and TEMP environment vars are set to c:\temp and there are read/write rights for "Everyone", so
I tried another way following the Metalink doc.#60781.1 (maybe it's old...:), i made a insert-trigger into cdi_temp_rpt_tables and run a report, this revealed me that Repository Reports doesn't insert any row in that table!
Then I've manually launched a report with RWRUN, but it asks me (REP-0157) the 'Distribute' param, even if it is in the command line.
Sincerely I can't understand. I don't use Reports Server as a service, but it is automatically launched when I open - for example - http://servername:8888/reports/rwservlet/showjobs?server=rep_servername
I've tons of docs, but I can't find anything helpful, maybe I lack something stupid & important like starting a service!
    Thanks
    Enrico

  • Report Designer - Inserting Graphs?

I have seen SAP PowerPoint slides demonstrating the capabilities of Report Designer that contain charts (bar or pie) apparently coming from BEx query data.
Is this possible to insert in the current version?  When I insert a dataprovider into a report, it's coming up as a table by default, and I don't see any way to change it to a chart layout.
    Thanks!

In SP 12 user can insert Image and Graphic.
To insert image: first we need to store supported (GIF, JPG and JPEG) images in MIME repository then insert image browse throw required image from MIME and click oK.
With the recent SP u have an option to insert image using MIME wizard that would take u directly to the MIME foler and generates a link like for. E.g. bwmimerep:///sap/bw/mime/Customer/Images/images.jpg and image get dipalyed in Report.
Later u can change the Height and width of image.
About inserting Graphic: First insert a graphic item and then select Dataprovider, and Chart type thorough chart editor.
U can have more than one chart from different data provider
    Hope this helps
    Thanks

  • Repository report just hangs when run!

I am running Developer 9.0.2.80.6 on Windows XP. I've installed 9i database and development tools.
I was able to build a ER diagram in Designer, and now I want to report on it. I go into Repository Reports, select a report (something simple like "attribute definitions", I give it a container name, an entity name, the name of my er diagram, and then when I click on the 'run report' button, nothing happens. I've given it plenty of time to do something, but nothing ever happens. Eventually I use task manager to shut it down (it says its not responding).
    Any help is much appreciated!!
    J

Thanks Shirish, but there's no file output at all.
I've also noticed that it leaves the process 'RWRUN.exe' around until I kill it or shut down.
I also tried running a report via Reports Developer and that one worked fine.
Does anyone know just which servers/processes need to be running in order to run these reports? I wonder what I'm missing. It is rather critical, as I'm developing a system for a client and this client requires a number of reports from Designer!

  • Repository Reports - No Descriptions

Hi, I am using Designer 9i (9.0.4.3.14). I have imported DDL from an existing database into my repository and created a server diagram and er diagram. My problem is that when I try to generate any repository reports, they table descriptions just show as blank, even though I can see them via the server diagram popups and the repository object browser. Why?
Also, if I export to DDL, I see the original table comments that were imported into the repository, but if I change the comments in the repository and export DDL I still see the old comments?
    Help!

Could be a number of things, not enough info to tell, try these ....
    - Designer has 4 different types of text for a Table. You say "description", but there is Description and Notes (both are long multi-line text), Help Text, and Comment. You can see all four types in RON. The Comment gets used for DDL gen, the Help Text gets used for Forms gen, and the other two are just that, descriptive text and notes to developers that don't go outside the repository.
    - note that different Repository Reports show different types of the text. Check the help for a report to see exactly which type it is showing you (I wind up customizing the reports quite often to get the types I want for a specific client organization.
    - Also ... you can fire up the ROB tool, the Repository Object Browser, because it show you a nice HTML page for any element that includes ALL the properties and content for the element and all of it's sub-elements (i.e. a Table, all its Columns, PKs, UKs, FKs, Constraints, etc etc)
    - You say that your generated result has old comments. But it isn't clear if this is the resulting tables in the target database or the DDL statements generated to get there. There is a flag / preference that you set to get the Table Comment to be included in the generated DDL, and thus to be applied to the target database.
    - If you are getting the "old" comment, then I would look at which type of text you are updating. Or I would look at some issue with having version control set up or managed improperly. (i.e. updating to a new version but generating from an old version).
Usually this all works just fine.
    Hope this helps

  • Repository reports differences

    Hi,
Does anyone have a complete list of the changes that where made to the naming of Repository Reports between 1.3.2 and 6.0. I have to deliver CDM reports given in the old name from a Designer 6.0 repository and I can't find the right reports.
    Thanks for the help.
    RATL..

    hi,
if your where to run a statpack report and an awr report from sql you would see very little difference between them as far as I have seen. there must however be some benefits for awr as this is the way that Oracle is going. As far as I am aware you need no special privilege to run awr.
