Reprocess every d40 raw file on every application launch

Aperture 3.1.1 reprocesses every nikon d40 raw in the library, at every application launch. I can stop it manually of course but all the files will then show "was processed using an earlier version of aperture". Needless to say this is an anoying if not unacceptable behaviour.
Is there a way around it?

Have you gone through the [Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805] ? With library problems like this its a good place to start.

Here's the thing: You didn't shoot in B&W and the Raw is in colour.
Your camera shoots everything in colour because that's what the sensor in the camera is - RGB. For B&W shots what happens is that the camera adds a display tag to the shot - and this is written to the Jpeg you shoot, and so it displays.
But a Raw is a sensor dump from the camera. This is all the data that the camera has, and all of that is in colour, so it shows in colour on Aperture.
Convert to B&W in Aperture or shoot Jpeg.

  • Firewall warnings at every application launch

    Hi,
I think this problem exists ever since I upgraded my iMac from Tiger to Leopard (on my MacBook with builtin Leopard, I don't have this issue). Now it's time I try to fix it
In fact, every time I run an application with networking features like iTunes, RealPlayer, Transmission, Adium, etc., the Leopard Firewall asks me always the same question: "Do you want to allow incoming connections for this application?". Replying Allow or Deny doesn't change anything, the system repeatedly asks me the same question every time I launch these apps.
I've already tried to remove applications from the Leopard Firewall list, so they can be added again the next time I run them, but the problem comes back when I close/relaunch the apps.
Any idea about what's causing the problem?
    Thanks for help

    Hi Barry
Mine is set to: "Define access to specific services and applications". All the apps listed below have the "Allow incoming connections" setting, but some of them like iTunes and a few others keep asking me the question at startup.
If I switch to "Allow only essential services", it seems to work, but I can't fine tune my firewall settings anymore...
    Thanks for helping.

  • When I start up, EVERY application launches. How do I disable this?

I have a new macbook air: runs OSX lion.
I think this began after I installed MS office, or at the very least, has gotten worse since I installed it. There may or may not be any correlation. I have checked the preferences for all the MS office aps as well as the mac system prefs. The 'launch at startup' only has skype and itunes helper aps in it, and both are turned off, yet both still open upon startup, along with every other ap on the computer. Any suggestions?

A new 'feature' of Lion is auto-resume. When you shut down your computer (or log out) a dialog box appears asking if you want to launch the programs that are currently running when you restart. The default checkmark is to auto resume and you must change the answer if you don't want them to auto-resume.
Further, by default, the Dock no longer display a little light to indicate which programs are running so when you look at the Dock you might think nothing is running.

  • NIKON D40 Raw Image Support

Would i need to wait specifically for an update to edit D40 raw files or would the latest D80 update cover it , so i guess my question is, is the current format used universal to all latest nikon cameras just released?
    thanks

Cross posting from the Aperture thread on the D40 raw format problem. I can now use raw files in IPhoto and Aperture while waiting for an update to come out.

  • I can no longer "edit in" CS5 from LR4 with RAW files

I can send jpeg files to CS5 via "edit in" but I can't send RAW files. PS is launched but the photos are never opened. I recently upgraded my camera to a Nikon D800, but I can't remember if the problem started just before I upgraded.

I have the same problem. Any solutions?

  • CS6 crashes every time I open a RAW file as 16-bit

    Greetings all,
I'm feeling very frustrated and I hope you can help. Every time I open a RAW file in CS6 (at 16-bit depth) it crashes, so I am unable to open RAW files after editing in Camera Raw. The RAW files open OK in Camera Raw and I can edit them, but then opening them from Camera Raw into Photoshop (by clicking on Open Image) causes a crash.
Further background: I also had CS3 (the entire suite concurrently) installed. Thinking that might be a problem, I removed all of CS3 using the Adobe Uninstaller tool to see if that would help. Then I re-installed Photoshop CS6 from scratch and then downloaded and installed all updates.
No help at all. CS6 still crashes every time I open a RAW file if I open it as 16-bit. If I open a .DNG file directly from Photshop (without using Camera Raw), that crashes too. I'm opening them into Photoshop using Adobe RGB (1998), 16-bit, 3456 x 5184 (17.9 MP), 300DPI.
Thinking it might be a memory issue, I checked free RAM using Activity Monitor and I see it has 3.4 GB free with both CS6 and Bridge open, which should be plenty. However I do see by looking in the crash report from the system log (portion included below), that it appears the crash may have resulted from a failed MALLOC (memory allocation).
Here's the kicker: oddly, when I open the file up in Photoshop at 8-bit depth, it works fine. What the heck is going on?
    Please help!
    Thanks.

I am having some huge problems with my colorspace settings. Every time I upload my raw files from my Canon 5D mark II or 6D the pics are perfect in color. That includes the back of my camera, the pic viewer on my macbook pro, and previews. They even look normal when I first open them in photoshop. I will edit, save, and then realize once i've sent it to myself to test the color is WAY off. This only happens in photoshop. I've read some forums and have tried different things, but it seems to be making it worse. PLEASE HELP! Even viewing the saved image on the mac's pic viewer is way off once i've edited in photoshop. I am having to adjust all my colors by emailing myself to test. Its just getting ridiculous.

Check the color space in camera raw, the options are in the link at the bottom of the dialog box. Then when saving make sure you save it to the srgb color space when sending to others. Not all programs understand color space and or will default to srgb. That won't necessarily mean it will be accurate, but it will put it in the ballpark. Using save for web will use the srgb color space.

  • Every time Photoshop CS6 is updated it loses the ability to process RAW files

I have had no trouble with PHotoshop CS6 for several years. Then I bought a copy of Dreamweaver CS6, which on installation destroyed all records of every other Adobe product that I have. It also stopped Photoshop CS6 from handling RAW files. So I reinstalled them. All of them. And then they could see and process RAW files again.
The Adobe Updater got to work after the next log on, downloaded a huge bolus of software and now Photoshop cannot handle RAW once again. This is truly annoying and becoming expensive. Has anyone had a similar experience?
I note that teh Dreamweaver product is not listed on my registered product list here on line, and when I tried to register it, the system refused, saying that it was registered as a part of a 'systems purchase', or some such. I bought it as a download from an on-line retailer.
Widgets: Win7 64 bit, 16 GB, dozen processors, NVIDIA2000W, top end screen.

That certainly sounds like bogus software. I'd get rid of it (and do a clean reformat/reinstall of everything in case it has planted some malware in your system).

  • How do I import NEF (Nikon RAW file) to iphoto? It fails every time.

When I put my SD in my card reader, iphoto can preview the files on it. They are NEF format- RAW files from my Nikon DSLR camera. But when I try to import them, the import fails. How do I convert each file to JPG's without doing them separately and changing the file size? Thank you!

That may be an issue with the card.
Can you move the files from the card to a folder on the desktop, and then reformat the card with the camera.
Can you import from the desktop then?
    If not:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Cannot open a raw file from my Nikon D800,,,i have downloaded every and i mean every version of raw

i am up to raw 8.3,,still getting an error message,,,frustrated,,,but still shooting in Tiff,,,would love to see a raw file open

Unreadable on my computer. I also use a D800, so I know my computer can read them.
Opening it up in a binary editor, I see the magic words "Nikon Transfer 1.1", which you've already been asked about twice.
You need to update this software, or use something else. Old versions of Nikon Transfer are known to corrupt recent Nikon cameras' files.
    Read these:
    https://nikoneurope-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/53027
    https://nikoneurope-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/50878
for info on updating or disabling it.
You will need to download the raw files from the cards again, once you've fixed the problem.
Personally, I stick my cards in a card reader and use Adobe Photodownloader, which is part of Bridge (which comes with Photoshop).

  • All RAW files suddenly said to need reprocessing

I am running Aperture 3.0.3 with OS 10.6.4 so everything is as up-to-date as can be. I upgraded from Aperture 2 within a week of Aperture 3 being released and all my RAW files were updated in the process. Since then, I have added several thousand more pictures directly into whatever the latest version of Aperture was at that time. My RAW files are all from a Nikon D40.
The last time I used Aperture (about a week ago) everything was normal, but today the program suddenly tells me this about all my RAW files: "This photo was adjusted using an earlier version of Apple's RAW processing"
Obviously this should be impossible for the several thousand of pictures that have only existed within Aperture 3 as they would have been automatically processed using the latest version. However, if I filter pictures by which RAW processor was used for decoding, every RAW file except the 6 new files I just imported to check (they correctly show RAW Decoding 3.0) shows that it was decoded with RAW Decoding 2.0.
If I push the reprocess button, my photos change slightly, becoming a little brighter, a little warmer, with a touch more saturation. I exported some JPEGs to compare to pictures I have outside Aperture and there is a definite (but subtle) change after reprocessing compared to my original edits done in Aperture 3. All quickbrush adjustments are available for all RAW files as well, which I thought was only possible if the file was updated to the latest processing...but I'm not sure about that.
I restored my library from a vault (updated about 1 week ago, unsure if before/after this issue began) and I get the same message. The only change I've made recently has been installing the Camera RAW update that came about in the past few weeks. Is it possible that made this suddenly start happening?
Of course I want to have the latest RAW decoding for my files, but I'm concerned that pictures I edited and exported months ago appear to have a different version of RAW processing than Aperture now wants to give my files. Anyone with a clue of what's going on or what I can do to troubleshoot this issue.

Aperture user since v1.0. Nikon D70.
You're not alone. This message has recently appeared on my entire library of D70 RAW images, excluding my two most recent imports.
At the same time, many precious, carefully hand tweaked images have taken on a very pronounced dark green colour cast (which renders them as completely useless). It seems that the more carefully the file had been tweaked, the more likely it was to have been affected by the dark green cast. I am extremely disappointed by this.
FWIW. Depending on their vintage my images may have been originally processed in RAW Decode v1, v1.1, v2 or v3. All images were reprocessed in RAW Decode v3 when Aperture 3 was originally released.
Reprocessing the images using RAW Decode Version 3 removes this colour cast but also creates images of a different pixel size! Previously they were 3024px by 1998px; after reprocessing they are 3008px by 2000px. This is the size that Adobe's and Nikon's own RAW processors produce, so the previous dimensions must be seen as Apple's mistake (I reported it as such when Aperture 1 was first released, so I suppose we should be glad that they've gotten round to fixing it).
This change in pixel dimension is covered in support.apple.com/kb/TS3114 which says that the change occurs after upgrading to Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.3. Of course, the release notes for Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.3 made no mention of this. And Apple seem to be playing the whole affair with their customary stone wall.

I know it is possible for the system to do this, as evidenced by the dialog you get when you use the "choose application" function. Other examples are doing a spotlight search for "kind:app" or programs like Namely or QuickSilver.
Is there a way to do this in applescript? The only solution I've come up with so far is to use the command:
<pre>set everyapplicationaliases to choose application as alias with multiple selections allowed</pre>
and manually select all on the resulting dialog. I can then take the results and go from there, however there are a few significant problems with this approach.
    1. It requires user interaction. (I have an idea for some future applications that could use this functionality if it can be done without user input.)
    2. It's horribly slow. As a test run I choose all the applications from the dialog, extracted some basic info and put the result on the clipboard. It took a couple of minutes to complete this relatively basic task. In comparison, running the aforementioned spotlight search took maybe ten seconds.
    Thanks in advance!
    best,
    peter

For these specific queries my results are...
set appList to paragraphs of (do shell script "mdfind \"(kMDItemKind = 'application'c) || (kMDItemKind = 'widget'c)\"")
    3082
    set appList to paragraphs of (do shell script "mdfind \"(kMDItemKind = 'Application'c) || (kMDItemKind = 'Widget'c) ||
    ((kMDItemContentTypeTree = 'com.apple.application') && (kMDItemContentType != com.apple.mail.emlx) && (kMDItemContentType != public.vcard))\"")
    3115
I think I finally found some numbers that make sense!
When I search for Kind:Application by the Command+F method in the Finder, I get a total of 2521 items, of which 2477 are "Applications" and 44 are "Other".
(Just by eyeballing it, "Other" seems to include some Classic Apps and some .bundle files.)
The total # found by this method (2521) plus the number of Widgets found using mdfind (318) equals the number of total number of items found by spotlight (2839).
I also noticed that these numbers almost equal the spotlight number:
    mdfind results for kMDItemKind:
    Widgets: 318
    Applications: 1684
    Classic*: 795
    and
    Command+F "Other" items: 44
    3181684+79544 = 2841
It may be a fluke that this is so close to the 2839 spotlight gives, or maybe there's an overlap somewhere...
Tying this back into my initial question, it seems like the original mdfind command for Applications is probably the best answer for what I was looking for,
since I wasn't really thinking about Classic apps and Widgets anyway.
