Req: GTX 770 TF 2GD5/OC VBIOS

Hi there.
I have an MSI GTX 770 (N770 TF 2GD5/OC)
S/N 602-V282-220B1309046698
I tried to update the VBIOS via MSI Live Update but I had issues, not 100% certain if my VBIOS was updated as it froze/hung but since then I have no display when my PC boots - I can boot into Windows just fine (Win8.0 x64) but I cannot get any display in the BIOS either via DVI or HDMI.
Other thing I notice is that it takes a much longer time to boot, usually from a cold boot to Windows's login screen it would take less than 10 seconds, but now it's much longer, maybe my BIOS is prompting me for something but since I have no display I cannot tell.  Once Windows boots up, all is perfectly fine, though.
I have tried a few different VBIOS flashes for my GTX 770 since then but no joy in getting display in the BIOS.
I have the latest bios for my motherboard, an Asus P8P67-M Pro B3.
Everything is otherwise fine, Windows, gaming etc is all fine apart from no display during boot or BIOS.

Thanks, flashed, shutdown and started up again but no change.  I don't get any display until the Windows 8 login screen.
Is there an older vbios I can try for my card? I'm wondering if it's not related to the UEFI GOP feature the new vbios's offer?
In case you need it, here's an output of nvflash:

  • GTX 770 MSI N760 TF Gaming 2GD5/OC Always 50 Degrees?

I'm not sure what's going on here. I upgraded from Tri SLI GTX 470 cards with reference coolers to the MSI N760 TF 2GD5/OC. My old video cards would always come near 85-90 degrees when overclocked. But this new MSI N760 TF 2GD5/OC never gets any hotter than 50 degree even with Boost and a small user overclock. I'm worried something might be wrong here. But if not, why would you make a video card with all that cooling power and not allow higher voltage that +12? It seems like a waste. I feel like I should have just bought the GTX 760 Hawk. At least that one has unlocked voltage for  higher overclocks. There's a huge $110 difference between these two cards.
Do you think maybe one of the 8-pin power connectors is not working? It just doesn't make sense at all to do something like that. Do you think it might have something to do with my ASUS Hero motherboard? That thing sometimes acts retarded with USBs, so maybe it's reporting false temps?

read about nvidia greenlight its NVIDIA that restricts how much voltage can be used or they void the GPU warranty on the core.
older cards had unlocked voltages but not now (some users where applying more voltage then the chip could safely use and it was Vaporising the silicon on the chip killing them over time and they started it with the Nvidia 6xx series cards so its been around for a while as users where overvolting them and causing overvoltage damage to the GPU so they locked it down or no manufacturer cover for the GPU from nvidia if they did not)
with the hawk models they allow you to overvolt them more but pass the lost cover (as no Greenlight) for the GPU onto the end user!
Crap ya I did screw that title up. Like I said, you can't go back and re-edit a post after so many minutes have past.
Anyways, I have the GTX 770. The thing never goes above 50 degrees Celsius. That's extremely cool I know. Every single video card or CPU I've had I've been able to red line to the max temp though, regardless if my voltage is locked or not. There's always seems to be some kind of point you can reach and the damn thing just shuts down. This card is beyond bizarre. Is it possible that I will never ever see 85 degree on this card? If that's the case, why make a video card like this and not even sniff it's critical point? Am I to guess that's what the 780 or Titan would be then?
I've seen nothing online to help me determine if I'm better off getting the GTX 760 Hawk over this GTX 770 Gaming one. My understanding is that the only advantage is maybe a +13 voltage increase and +185% Power Limit over the GTX 770's +12 voltage and 111% Power Limit. I have Svet's Fermi/Kepler VBIOS Tuner, so getting the +185 Power Limit on the GTX 770 Gaming is not a problem. So the GTX 770 Gaming has some room to overclock. I mean the ASUS Maximus VI motherboards and Haswell CPUs were overclocked at like 7GHz and the damn things weren't even released yet, lol. Where are those results for the Hawk and Gaming?
I was also hoping someone might know the difference in the potential of the 760 Hawk and 770 Gaming. I've seen overclocked reviews for the 760 Hawk, but none that talk about the unlocked potential. I know the 760 Hawk can sniff the GTX 770 in performance, but that's using stock overclocking methods. I would like to know if anyone has been able to successfully overclock the 760 Hawk past an overclocked GTX 770.

    Hi
I would like an updated Vbios that supports UEFI / Gop for my GTX 760 TF 2GD5/OC cards running in SLI.
The Serial numbers are slightly different for each card.
Card 1 is S/N: 602-V284-72SB1403117327 and the link to it's Vbios is: https_//onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=404D43D84868F470!605&authkey=!AHqdnuXibqAazQs&ithint=file%2c.rom

Is there any additional steps I will need to go through due to having two cards in SLI with the flashing procedure?
Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

    Use the attached.
Decompress the provided .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Then flash the included file with Nvflash for dos: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/nvflash_download.html
To do so rename the included file to .rom and create a dos bootstick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0)
Put nvflash and the vbios file on it and boot from the stick. Then type nvflash -4 -5 -6 gop.rom (if renamed vbios that way) and hit enter. Confirm the questions and let the tool flash
Thanks, works like a charm. You made my day.

  • GTX 770 Lightning vBios recovery and other questions

Hey I was just wondering, is 70C too hot becau- Just kidding.  Haha, gotcha.
Actual Question: I was messing about flashing higher and higher power/memory/clock settings and I went too high. Just as I get to the betta fish loading logo (I'm using the 8.1 preview) the screen goes black but does not sleep and I'm stuck there. So now I get to use the LN2 switch to boot, (I JUST researched LN2 and realized what I've been missing) but how do I flash a Normal mode vbios when I can only run in LN2 mode?
Also, just to be 100% safe: A UEFI/GOP vBios is backward compatible with a legacy MB right? I want to make sure I have a vbios to boot with. MY actual computer is an obnoxious Inspiron 546 from 2009... yea. I'm just borrowing this rig. The 770 is MINE though.
Another issue I cannot understand is that whenever I reach 99% GPU usage under ANY (Normal) vBios settings in ANY game with ANY driver the game freezes and crashes and MSI afterburner occasionally reports something crazy like 90129374% Power in a spike. I was actually trying to work around that by overclocking so much I'd never reach 99% GPU usage, but it still spikes for a split second and crashes me.
Finally, I'm highly curious about this vbios entry on techpowerup http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/141424/msi-gtx770-2048-130605.html The other two MSI GTX770 Lightning vbios's on this page http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/index.php?manufacturer=MSI&model=GTX+770 are the Normal and LN2 vbios's as it states at the bottom, but that third one says nothing on the bottom, and to further increase curiosity the version number has a more significant change in it. Has something been updated?
Oooh yes, one last thing. I've think I might have come across a bug in Svets vBios Tuner (2.49h). I can't set any P*state  higher than 2040 because I get a 'wrong parameter' error with anything above that. I used Kepler Bios Tweaker 1.25 to set it to 2104 and that worked, but appears as 4 in both Kepler Bios tweaker and Svets Tuner after that.
I know this is a lot of questions at once here, but I tend to save 'em up for a while. Thank you in advance. -Eli

If you have a non-nvidia vga left you can install it besides the lightning and use it for primary display. Then just use nvflash as usual to reflash a normal vbios (of course card needs to be switched to normal) and it will flash the nvidia adapter it finds (the Lightning). If you only have another Nvidia card left you'd have to identify the adapters name you want to flash (type nvflash --list and all adapters are listed). If then wanting to flash add the adapter name before the file to flash, e.g.: nvflash i1 vbios.rom (assuming i1 is the Lightning's name and vbios.rom is the name of the file to flash). Nvflash will then just flash the Lightning.
If you have no other vga you are out of luck. A PC-Shop can recover it for you.

If the board is really legacy bios (no UEFI at all) then theoretically yes. Of course the board needs to be compatible to the latest GTX770 series cards. Old mainboards might run into compatibility issues apart from the vbios.

Then your card is for whatever reason not stable (e.g. insufficient power supply, software issue, too much cpu overclock or simply the card not making factory settings - rma issue -).

Don't download vbioses from third party sites. The uploaders mostly have no clue of these files themselves. There is nothing newer than you got from Svet. Don't experiment.

Then contact Svet about it or post in the thread for his tool: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=148273.0
