[Req]Soundcard recommendation

Can someone recommend a good (cheap) soundcard with hardware mixing, or a website comparison.  I'm aware of the Soundblaster Audigy 4, but its old and there are not many around on ebay.
I've got a P5K3 motherboard with an onboard Intel HDA chipset, but as soon as an audio application (eg xmms) uses the sound channel, jackd refuses to start for use with another audio app (zynaddsubfx), saying that the channel is in use.  I've tried all the jack options (oss, alsa, hw0, hw1 etc) to no avail.

I may be off the mark here but if the alsa driver is dedicated to xmms jackd will never start regardless of what card you have. Start jackd from a terminal and you should see "failed to create alsa driver, hw0 in use". Try changing xmms to use jack driver. Soundcard wise I likw my maudio delta1010 but it's a little much unless you are multitrack recording (;

  • USB Soundcard Recommendations?

Hi. I am thinking of building a mini itx rig, but I will be devoting the only available expansion slot to a discrete gpu. I'm also an audio snob, so I was hoping someone might be able to tell me if there is a Creative USB product that may fit my needs. I've searched the products pages, but haven't been able to tell if there is one that checks all of my boxes. Specifically, I'm looking for the following:
    1. Headphone amp and good dacs
    2. At least an x-fi processor
    3. EAX 5 support
    4. Dolby Live/DTS Connect support
    5. 7.1 spdif
    6. Analog speaker out (separate from headphone amp)
    Thanks!

_this USB mic_ is about as far below 100£ as you're going to get, and a large step above a simple headset mic.

  • Alternate soundcard [graphics adapter, not SOUND card]

My budget has very quickly become limited with what I want to purchase for my new system and I am looking at a different setup for use with my CC suite.
Does anyone now why an Intel graphics card (HD4000) wouldn't work for running Pr, Ae, Ph, Lr, etc? I know it's not on the list that Adobe puts out, but I don't understand why the HD5000 would be that different from the HD4000.

Thanks Mylenium. I appreciate the quick response. I prefer to spend my time trying to hone my skills inside these apps, and as such, I am not very good at determining which laptop/desktop to choose when configuring a system. I will probably stay in the Windows world due to cost. That being said, do you have any soundcard recommendations? There are so many Nvidia cards to choose from. Is one really any better than another?

  • Recommendations on a GREAT multiple I/O soundcard...

Can anyone recommend an EXCELLENT pro unit in the $500 to $1000 range? I'd like to graduate from my Edirol UA-25 and am interested in being able to patch in outboard gear into individual tracks.
    thanks
    c

Thanks much David. I noticed no Apogee in your list. Are they overrated?
No, I restricted suggestions to multi-channel units within the price range you quoted. ($500->$1000)
(I used the prices quoted at audiomidi.com as a reference.)
So Apogee, RME, Metric Halo, Lynx etc. were all out of the picture.
(but if you know where to get a multi-channel Apogee convertor for sub-$1000 I'm sure we'd all like to know :))) )

  • Please recommend audio interface /soundcard

I need a good audio interface / soundcard for my Power Mac G5.
    My criteria are as follows:
Must work perfectly with the G5 in OS 10.4.
Must have excellent A/D and D/A convertors
Must have digital in/out and balanced line in/out
    Must have 1/4'' headphone out
    Must support a minimum of 24bit, 48kHz
I do not need any pre-amps or bundled software, I don't need it to be portable, and I only need stereo in/out.
The D/A and A/D convertors are the most important feature for me, so must be low noise, flat signal response, low harmonic distortion etc.
I would also like it to be cheap, certainly no more than £200 ($368 / €291).
I am not sure whether PCI Express, Firewire or USB would be best; - I am willing to consider them all.
    What I have already:
Studio Projects VTB1 pre-amp (male XLR balanced out)
Yamaha MSP3 speakers (female XLR balanced OR female 1/4'' TRS balanced)
    I use Logic Pro 7.1.1
What audio interface / soundcard do you recommend? - Please give me some options for me to investigate further. All responses are much appreciated.
    Thanks.

These companies have firewire devices for ~$300-$500:
    http://www.alesis.com/
    http://www.m-audio.com
    http://www.edirol.com/
Get firewire, not USB2. I don't know of any PCI Express audio devices except for Pro Tool's new hardware (expensive).

  • Can someone recommend a good soundcard

I recently upgraded from a G4 Tower to G5 Tower. My old soundcard is PCI, my new computer's sys board is PCI Express. I've been looking for a decent PCI Express soundcard, but am having no luck. I'll be running Logic through it, and would like it to have 4 analog in/outs. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi Aron, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I've never seen anything like that for G5/PCIe Macs, the closest I can think of would be to maybe find one of these used on eBay, and it may only have output...

  • Recommendations for well supported soundcard

    Hi there,
I am currently building an HTPC, thus I am looking for a decent sound card that puts my FLAC files to to the amp in reasonable quality.
This card must of course be supported by the mainline kernel, prefferably by LTS (2.6.32).
The connection should be PCI-E or USB.
    Any suggestions?

I have one PCI-Slot on my board and it is not used yet. I would have preferred PCIe because I have more slots for them. The M-Audio looks quite nice and is focused on stereo. Thats nice as I have a pure stereo equipment.
So I just have to choose between M-Audio and an Asus Xonar model.

  • Dell soundcard does not work, need upgrade?

I purchased a Dell Intel core duo processor E4500 (2 MB L2 cache, 2.20 Ghz, 2 Gb SD Ram, Windows Vista) earlier this year. After I installed Audition 3.0 I received a message that read: Have direct sound Card Driver selected, for best results select ASIO sound card driver". When recording and during playback could only get a very faint volume. On my old Dell I used the regular Dell soundcard and it worked, though without great results. Will changing the soundcard remedy this and if so, are there recommendations for an ASIO soundcard? Thanks! Jim

If you have a free port, I'd go with Firewire instead of USB. Firewire's faster and doesn't get quite as much traffic congestion as USB.
There are tons of great interfaces at many different price ranges.
You might go to www.sweetwater.com and take a look at their inventory. Once you have a few items picked out, call and talk to one of their sales techs about your needs and they'll help you chose the right one.
I just bought some new Mackie MR8 active monitors and a PreSonus HP4 headphone amp from them yesterday. I'd say about three quarters of all my gear was purchased through Sweetwater.

  • PO and REQ import

    Hi All,
When importing PO and REQs what are the different authorization status(eg APPROVED, INCOMPLETE, IN PROCESS, PRE-APPROVED) can the document come into the system. We are trying to move over open documents that have varying authorization status and would like to know the allowed import statuses.

You can bring in the open po documents with APPROVED, INCOMPLETE and IN PROCESS status. However, it is recommended to bring either as APPROVED or INCOMPLETE (and start the approval process). If you import the doc in IN PROCESS, you may need to think about the action history as well...
I would recomment to bring over all your open documents as Incomplete and re-start the approval process again.

  • My soundcard is not picking up a midi connection from my Oxygen 8 keyboard

    Hi There
I recently bought a Thunderbolt adaptor so I can start using my Edirol FA-66 Audio interface again.
The Audio side of things seems to be working with no issues. However. I have tried connecting my Oxygen 8v2 keyboard to the interface via MIDI cable and connot get it to send of recive MIDI data. I have had a look in the AMS contol panel, the soundcard is showing up in the MIDI window but no connection to keyboard. I have maually tried using the virtual cables but thats not working either.
It works fine via USB but thats not the point, I need the MIDI in to my soundcard to work,
    Does anybody have any suggestions?
    Regards

I recommend just restarting your computer and it should be finecheapest voipcheapest voip callsOSU Beaversfree voip phone calls

  • Which Soundcard should i buy for Musicproduction on new iMac ?

    Hi,
I'm planning to buy a new 20" iMac Intel. The main use will be Music Production as in Home Recording Studio. My question is for reasons of Budgeting. I'm now a Windows user and for music production I use Steinberg System 4 which includes the Steinberg MI4 Soundcard and SL 3.1.
So... with all the Cubase SX/SL 4 speculation and that it will "probably" come out around end of the year after Vista comes out.... blah, blah, blah. I wonder if my System 4 will work at all on the new iMac.... yes i open this question on the Steinberg forum.
Well, i would be maybe willing to buy a whole new SoundCard.... so...
    1) Is the Soundcard in the new iMacs good enough or should i get a better one? (I'm a Home Recording guy willing to invest some good ammount of money to get as good recordings as i can for a Home Recording Studio.)
    2) Can somebody recommend me 2-3 different SoundCards for the new iMacs that i could buy ? (Please not more expensive than 300 EUR or equivalent in USD. I think more than 300 EUR is not worth investing in a SoundCard, is it ?! IMHO... if yes no more than 500 EUR)
Oh yeah, i am using a MindPrint EnVoice II with DI-MOD, so that pre-amp with compressor is enough for me, the Soundcard doesn't has to have a good preamp and compresor stuff neither tons of inputs. I record through my MindPrint one Instrument/voice at a time. For Drums i simply use BFD from XPansion, so i don't have to mic that.
    OK, thanks for your advice!
    Cheers!

    Hi,
The iMac is built more like a laptop with very little room inside for adding/changing anything apart from RAM.
You could use the internal sound card of the iMac but getting an external audio interface will provide both more sound quality and flexibility.
Here's a link to suggestions about choosing a suitable audio interface : http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1461454&#1461454
If you search through the Garageband and Logic forums you will find even more on this subject.
    Hope this helps.

  • Best Soundcard for KT3 Ultra ??

    Hi
Can you give me your experiences of the most compatible sound cards for this motherboard.
I am having problems with my tv tuner card and my SB Live 5.1.
I never had these problems in my ECS K75SA.

bios one suggests not having acpi on with tv cards might help and a few other ideas in them, pci latencey etc
In addition you can find numerous articles in this forum and on the web about the combination of VIA Chipsets and SB cards; it just appears that there is still an inherent risk in that combination. Problems some times - but not always - can be solved using Latency settings or patches ...
I recommend to look for other soundcards in case of VIA chipsets (unless you can arrange with your dealer that you may return the card in case of problems). There are, also according to my experience, several cards around which will at least match the quality of SB for the same price or less - just go out and use your ears.

  • What is the best soundcard for Linux?

What soundcard would you recommend to buy?
I was thinking that Audigy is best choice, but then I looked on ALSA website, and found out that most of Audigy is not supported or mostly unsupported (lack of capture?!).
Currently I use SB Live 1024, I want to have something better, without so much noise on inputs.

At the moment, I use RCA cables to connect the sound card to my mixer (both in and out). From the mixer, I get sound through my headphones or a pair of studio monitors. I'm sure you've looked at the card online, but it's main output is an RCA connection. If you attach the extra cable, you get MIDI and S/PDIF connections. So if you are going to use regular computer speakers, you would need to get an adapter (RCA to 1/8" jack), which is what I used to use before adding the mixer.

  • Warning while running pre-req checks for installing 11g binaries

I am trying to install 11g binaries on my box for upgrading my production db from 10.2.0.4 to 11.1.0.7. I have dev and Prod running from the same box. I already upgraded my dev instance to 11g and its home is /opt/oracle/product/11.10/dev.
I created another path for production as /opt/oracle/product/11.1.0/prod so that I can install the 11g binaries for production in there. When I run the installer, the pre-req checks gives me two warnings -
    Checking PATH environment variable...
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
Problem: The installer has detected that the PATH environment variable includes other ORACLE_HOME locations in it.
Recommendation: Restart the installer after removing other ORACLE_HOME locations from PATH environment variable.
    ========================================================
    Checking LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable...
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
Problem: The installer has detected that environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH includes other ORACLE_HOME locations in it.
Recommendation: Restart the installer after removing other ORACLE_HOME locations from LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable.
I ran ther pre-req again after unsetting the PATH and HOME variable. But it still gives me a warning on the PATH variable. What should I do to avoid this warning?

If I were you, I would have defined the HOMEs as "/opt/oracle/product/dev/11.1.0" and "/opt/oracle/product/prod/11.1.0" - that would eliminate the errors you are facing. It is still not too late - you can install the prod binaries as "/opt/oracle/product/prod/11.1.0", then later on "clone" the OH from "/opt/oracle/product/11.1.0/dev" to "/opt/oracle/product/dev/11.1.0" and delete the former.
You could also simply clone "/opt/oracle/product/prod/11.1.0" from "/opt/oracle/product/11.1.0/dev" rather than running the the install/patching process all over again.
