[Request] Include classic r300-dri mesa driver in ati-dri package

Hi. Despire updating everything else on my system today, I am forcing myself to use old copies of mesa, ati-dri, libgl and libdrm because of a decision made in the mesa PKGBUILD. Specifically, the package is built with "--enable-gallium-radeon" to take advantage of OpenGL 2.1 support on r300 cards. That's all well and good but me and at least one other person are seeing complete failure of OpenGL apps with it.
Asking you to remove this from the PKGBUILD may be unreasonable if there are other people that see good performance with it, but can I ask you to include the old driver *as well*? This does not look difficult at all because the PKGBUILD has a line for quickly installing that driver and it is just commented out! After all this PKGBUILD installs classic and gallium versions of the nouveau driver so why not radeon as well?
Thanks for considering. I know I could easily compile this part myself, but that seems like a waste when getting it in the default package is as simple as removing one character.

try compiz the latest git version of mesa yourself.
these two dri libraries can not contain in the same package.
and indeed gallium driver is better than classic one, support more feature. and your problem may be solved in next release.

  • Can I have Tiger enclosing classic on an external drive

I'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on a late 2009 Mac Mini with an external LaCie drive to which I back up my home folder each night (don't use time machine). I moved up from a G4 mac mini which had Classic as well as Tiger on it.
Would it be possible if I cloned my Tiger including Classic system from my old G4 mini to a separate partition on this current LaCie disk, for this partition to show up as a possible alternate startup disk in my System Preferences> Startup Disk when using my present Intel machine? I know Classic can't work under Intel, but wonder if the System Preferences here would allow me to boot into my external disk partition on Tiger/ Classic restarting.
Why I would like to try this is simply that although I bought a new scanner and photoshop elements 8 to work with Snow Leopard, and it does, I had an old scanner and Photoshop 6 working out of Classic on my previous mini and it just worked better, gave me more options, than the new setup. So I miss using it on my monitor, though I can still do so on my G4 laptop.

You can however use SheepShaver (http://sheepshaver.cebix.net/) to run MacOS 7.5.2 thru 9.0.4 in emulation on an Intel Mac... Its not a perfect solution but it does work for many apps (I've got Sheepshaver with OS8.6 and Photoshop 6 working on my Intel iMac)...

  • Lib32 R300 DRI users: lib32-ati-dri needed?

    Hi,
I made a PKGBUILD for lib32-ati-dri but I wanted check if it's really needed or is it just something funny with my system. Could R300 DRI users report that do they get direct rendering in 32bit without it.
The thing is when I run:
    LIBGL_DEBUG=1 /opt/bin32/usr/bin/glxinfo
    without lib32-ati-dri, I get:
libGL error: dlopen /opt/lib32/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri//r300_dri.so failed (/opt/lib32/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri//r300_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
libGL error: dlopen /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri//r300_dri.so failed (/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri//r300_dri.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64)
libGL error: unable to load driver: r300_dri.so
libGL error: dlopen /opt/lib32/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri//swrast_dri.so failed (/opt/lib32/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri//swrast_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
libGL error: dlopen /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri//swrast_dri.so failed (/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri//swrast_dri.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64)
libGL error: unable to load driver: swrast_dri.so
libGL error: reverting to indirect rendering
    and
    direct rendering: No
After installing lib32-ati-dri and exporting LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH, It finds the provided file and direct rendering shows yes.
Just feels weird that I couldn't find any post about that file missing or that it's not already provided somewhere. If the package is really needed I could dump it to AUR
    Another thing is, shouldn't lib32-libgl provide swrast_dri.so?

I ran into this problem on x86_64 as well.  However, I found that r300_dri.so was located in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/ as part of the ati-dri package.  I adjusted the LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH variable in my .bashrc and now have direct rendering.

  • Does Tiger for PPC include classic?

I want to run classic inside of Tiger but I need to know if I need to upgrade from panther, or does Tiger include classic.

Tiger includes the program that is able to run a Mac OS 9.1 or higher System Folder as Classic. If that Mac OS 9 System Folder is not present, Classic will not load. If you attempt to erase and install your operating system, you will lose that System Folder, and be required to reload it another way.
Macs of different ages have different capabilities when it comes to Classic. The dates below are when specific models were released as new Macs according to the spec pages:
    http://support.apple.com/specs/
11/1997-7/2002 The G3 and G4 Macs released during this period (except the original G3/250 Powerbook) can use the 9.2.1 retail installer disc to install Mac OS 9. If they shipped with a version of 9, they can only use a newer retail version of 9 to install 9 for use with the Classic environment. A minimum of 9.1 needs to be installed to use Classic. The article below lists which versions of 9 each Mac shipped with:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
If you need to upgrade to 9.1 or higher, follow the directions in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288
Also check if the firmware needs to be updated before installing 10.2 or later:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
8/2002-12/2002 The Macs which shipped new during this period shipped with a restore 9 installer disc and could not use the retail installer disc for Mac OS 9. Call AppleCare if you are missing those discs:
    http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
To install Classic from the restore discs, follow the directions in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61802
867 Mhz Macs and faster Macs that shipped during this period 11/1997-12/2002 can also boot into 9 when Leopard (10.5) is installed, but can't use Classic unless Tiger (10.4) or earlier is installed on a separate bootable hard disc, or partition of the boot hard drive. Pre-Firewire Powermac G4s which shipped during the next time period also have this ability if they were 867 Mhz or faster.
1/2003-12/2005 The machines which shipped new during this period (except the PowerMac G4 pre-Firewire 800 which could boot into 9) could only use Classic, and thus once upgraded to Leopard can't use Classic anymore. If you kept a separate partition or booted off an external hard drive that had Tiger they could continue to use Classic. Article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61802 still applies for restoring Classic to Tiger and older operating systems on these Macs.
1/2006 - present Intel Macs which shipped during this time period can't use Classic at all.

  • I need to move the iTunes library to an External Hard Drive to free up space on iMac.  Need suggestions on type of External Hard Drive to use.  A Multimedia Hard Drive like LaCie LaCinema Classic HD Multimedia Hard Drive OR a Large Desktop Hard Drive?

I need to move an iTunes library to an External Hard Drive to free up space on iMac.  I Need suggestions on type of External Hard Drive to use.  Should you use a Multimedia Hard Drive like LaCie LaCinema Classic HD Multimedia Hard Drive OR a standard Large Desktop Hard Drive like Western Digital/Seagate/LaCie?

There is no benefit to the multi-media feature on the first drive you mentioned. If you are going to look at differences between certain drives, I'd look at the differences in reliability first.

  • Installing Tiger and classic on an external drive

I'm trying to install Tiger so I can run classic on an external drive to play the one or two games that are still not compatible with X. When I boot my Tiger install DVD on my Powerbook G4, it goes in to Open Firmware.
    Any suggestions??

Well...I posted here cause I have leopard on the machine, and thought it was related.
    anyhow..I have a Powerbook G4 1.5 Ghz.
I thought for sure I had booted from the Tiger retail DVD before. I guess i'll need to look for my Powerbook discs (wish me luck).

  • How to copy files from a color classic w/broken floppy drive to an i-book ?

How to copy files from a color classic w/broken floppy drive to an i-book ?
    I have a Coplor Classic with a system 7.
There is no ethernet on color classic. The floppy drive is dead.
I need some important files I have on the color classic...
How do I connetct them to transfer files?...

The easiest way, as AppleIIFreak has suggested, is probably to find another older Macintosh computer (with the round MiniDIN printer port) to be used as an intermediary. You could then connect the two machines by means of LocalTalk cabling, or just a plain Mac serial printer cable between the printer ports, and then set up file sharing. From that other Mac, you should be able to forward the files via Ethernet, diskettes (if you have an external USB floppy drive for the iBook) or email (Internet).
If a second old Mac is not available, you may want to try something else. It would not be unusual for a Color Classic to have ClarisWorks already (obviously, one cannot expect anything new to become installed). If so, that program suite would contain a communications part. This means that you could connect an external serial modem, and send the files over the phone lines (or locally, modem-to-modem, in principle as in KB article # 22229; sometimes a very simple home-built line simulator may have to be added) to any other computer using a terminal emulation application with file transfer capabilities. It would also be possible to connect the modem port directly to the serial port of a PC, through a combination of a Mac modem cable (MiniDIN-8M to DB-25M) and a standard PC null-modem cable (DB-25F to DB-9F).

  • Does 10.4 Tiger Include Classic 9 ?

If so, where is the folder for OS 9 located?
If not, where can I get OS 9 to use as a startup disk as well as OS 10.4 ??

    Does 10.4 Tiger Include Classic 9 ?
No, unless it came with a PowerPC Mac.
If not, where can I get OS 9 to use as a startup disk as well as OS 10.4 ?
Your G4's original disks will contain it unless you purchased a network server.

  • [Help request] Installing legacy 12.6 catalyst driver

I have installed xf86-video-ati and lib32-ati-dri packages, system starts, but I need to improve performance of 3D games and some KDE effects.
After installing catalyst package, setting nomodeset for kernel and blacklisting radeon, X isn't starting, probably because one of my graphics card (integrated HD4250) is no longer supported in latest releases. Last version that was working was 12.6 and catalyst owns >12.10 already.
I would try myself, but I must rely on your knowledge, because getting X working back after such failure is painfull to fix, had to do it before .

You have to downgrade to Xorg 1.12 by adding
    [xorg112]
    Server = http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/xorg112/$arch
above all other repositories in your /etc/pacman.conf.
Then run pacman -Syuu (double u does the downgrading)
and add the [catalyst-hd234k] repository as described in the wiki.

  • Problems with driver for ATI xpress 200

    Hi all,
this morning I saw that there is KDE4 available. Straight away I installed the packages, run it and it crashed. There was a funny graphical effect just before the crash. This gave me the impression that the problems comes from the graphical driver. I tried the proprietary ATI driver which hangs once kdm is launched. Then I tried VESA which doesn't even start for some funny reason. Eventually I turned to the open source ATI drivers. With them I'm running KDE in resolution 1280x768 which is somewhat strange. So far, I haven't found a solution and think I need a help.

How to get the Windows Vista Driver for ATI Radeon 7500 card?
I am using a IBM Thinkpad T42 with a 32Mb ATI Radeon 7500 graphic card AGP.
Is there any Vista 32-bit driver to update my card so that this system support Aero effect?
    Thank you.

The Radeon 9000 driver works for the Radeon 7500 card.  I have successfully used it on a T43 with Vista Ultimate x86

Unfortunately no.  The Radeon 9000 driver should bring your graphics score up to close to 2, but it will not get it high enough to enable Aero support.

  • Need newest driver for ATI Radeon 3650 - Satellite Pro A300-1NT

    Hello everyone,
I am looking for the newest drivers for ATI Radeon HD 3650 onboard Satelite Pro A300-1NT.
During playing Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) game by Beenox Inc ..... I get pixelized squares on tthe screen (instead of dust) and eventually blue screen.
I am using Windows XP Pro
I looked for drivers on *Toshiba website* and the only I found are:
12/01/09 Display Driver ATI Windows XP 8.477
*Game support* suggests upgrading driver for a newer one.
*Ati manufacturer support* have driver for ATI Radeon 8650 but not compatibile with Mobile Solution - and when asked for Mobile Ati support I got the ansfer:
+AMD Customer Care for ATI products does not provide direct technical support for laptops/notebooks at this current time (telephone or email). If you require direct technical support please contact the system manufacturer of your laptop/notebook.+
    + [http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/737-28041SupportforATIMobility.aspx|http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/737-28041SupportforATIMobility.aspx] +
I ask then are there newest drivers for Windows XP

    Hi
I think you have already answered this question by yourself...
As you wrote you can get all drivers on the Toshiba website and if there isnt a newer driver available you can nothing more I think. Satellite A300 isnt a high performance gaming notebook so I think display drivers are not so important.
The only way to get a newer version is that you search on external websites. Maybe you can get the desktop driver working due some modifications I dont know but be really careful!!! Other drivers dont have an overheat protection and you could destroy the graphic chip. Be really careful what you do.
Alternative you can search on the Toshiba website for other notebook models with ATI card too. Maybe there you can get a newer version

  • Feature request: Include tool to mount disk images as virtual drives

Such a tool has been put out by Microsoft before, but as new versions of Windows come they break compatibility as the driver needs to change with the version. If you become dependent on such a feature (I don't want to use up writable disks if I don't have to) you tend to need to rely on some adware laced software until something better comes around, and probably has a few problems. (Like giving no error message when hard drive images attempt to load, which I have to find another program for.) Not to many people need it, but those that do just require that it exist for their version of Windows and that they can find it fairly easily.

Just use the tool from Microsoft for XP.
    This is from the readme.txt:
    1. Copy VCdRom.sys to your %systemroot%\system32\drivers folder.
    2. Execute VCdControlTool.exe
    3. Click "Driver control"
    4. If the "Install Driver" button is available, click it. Navigate to the %systemroot%\system32\drivers folder, select VCdRom.sys, and click Open.
    5. Click "Start"
    6. Click OK
    7. Click "Add Drive" to add a drive to the drive list. Ensure that the drive added is not a local drive. If it is, continue to click "Add Drive" until an unused drive letter is available.
    8. Select an unused drive letter from the drive list and click "Mount".
    9. Navigate to the image file, select it, and click "OK". UNC naming conventions should not be used, however mapped network drives should be OK.
    The donwload link is http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/b/6/7b6abd84-7841-4978-96f5-bd58df02efa2/winxpvirtualcdcontrolpanel_21.exe
And YES! It works on Windows 7! Can you believe that?

Okay, more downloading to do. I will test it on the 64 bit version.

  • Hi,I'm trying to put all of the songs on my ipod classic to a hard drive for back up but it's only adding songs that I have purchased from the store but none of the albums that I put on from my cd collection. Is there a way to do this please?

Hi,I'm trying to put all the songs from my ipod classic onto an external hard drive, but it is only putting purchases from itunes onto hard drive and not any of my old cd's that I put onto the ipod manually.Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer.  As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you.  I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.
    Best.

  • Running 10.4 and Classic from an external drive

I just installed 10.5 on my work machine (PPC G5) and to my dismay found out I cannot run classic applications.I have one application (never updated to 10.0 or above) that accesses some archived files. I don't need it very often but the files are critical when needed.
Since I don't need to do this often I'd like to install 10.4 on my external Firewire drive (Apple Partition Map) and reboot whenever I need the archived material.
Can this be done? Is there a recommended procedure for doing it? Does anyone know of any problems doing this?
Thanks in advance for any help provided.
