Request: iPad "mode" inside Numbers for Mac

It sure would be nice if there were a toggle in Numbers for Mac that would disable any features, functions, formats, etc that were incompatible with the Numbers for iPad. That way I could create a spreadsheet that I already know is going to iPad without finding out later that I did something the iPad version can't do.

Great idea, Benthic, but apple isn't reading here (except to make sure things conform to the TOU).
You can suggest it here to be sure someone will see it:

  • I have a password protected Numbers document I created on my MAC and share via DROPBOX. Is there any way to simply view this doc on my IPAD without purchasing NUMBERS for the IPAD?

I use NUMBERS on my MAC to create a password protected document.  I share this doc via DROPBOX.  Is there any way I can view the doc on my IPAD without purchasing NUMBERS for the IPAD?  The doc opened fine on the IPAD before protecting it with a password.

Using the term "opened" may have been incorrect on my part.  Before password protection, I simply viewed the doc by selecting it within my DROPBOX app.  No revisions could be made, but I could view the doc.    Now, with the doc password protected, the IPAD states this file can not be viewed.
The IPAD users guide gives a list of files IPAD can view. Unfortunately, I find no info on how to open/view that file should it be protected. If

  • Numbers for Mac does not show all stored Numbers files in iCloud that are already in use on iPhone and ipad

I have been using Numbers on both iPhone and iPad for a while and have about 8 files stored on iCloud. I have just purchased Numbers for Mac but I do not see any of my files stored in iCloud. I have created a test spreadsheet on my Mac which says it is stored on iCloud when I choose File - Open on my Mac but this test file does not appear on Numbers on iPhone or iPad.

I have tried all what you have suggested but still no luck. I am unable to locate the file Mobile Documents in either the Library folder under Mac HD or Mac HD - System - Library.
If you've set up iCloud properly on the Mac then in your Library there will be a Mobile Documents folder with documents in it:
Everything else syncs absolutley fine such as contacts, mail, notes, pictures etc etc.
Contacts, Mail, etc. sync via another iCloud protocol. For Numbers you need 'Documents & Data' turned on, per the screenshot upthread.
Numbers appears twice under iCloud for some reason though -
Numbers doesn't appear "under iCloud".  Numbers uses iCloud to sync. Not sure what your screenshot is showing. On the Mac your Numbers will be here (in Finder):

  • Can't open file from Numbers iWork08 in Numbers for Mac

I am unable to open Numbers files created in iWork08 (Numbers 1.0.3) in the new Numbers for Mac.  I keep getting a message that says I need to save the file in Numbers 09 first.  I don't have Numbers 09.  Is there a way to do this?  It doesn't seem right I would need to go back and buy Numbers 09 to save these files in the new Numbers for Mac app which I've already purchased.
    Thank you.

Lots of questions here, will see what I can add.
For the file problem go to preferences/file type associations.  You should have the option selected CS6 for the extenstion as the default.  Might try the radio button on the bottom first to set them to default settings.
If the 1.77g file you are refering to is the one you downloaded and used for installation you can delete it.  It is a wise choice to save it to a DVD first so in case you need it in the future you will have it.  Also save the serial number in safe place.  Acutally safe is not the right word, need to save in place where you can find it if you need it next year.  HD can fail.
There are still thrid party plug-ins that do not work in 64 bit mode, hence the 32 bit version.  Also there is no 64 bit TWAIN so some still like to use that for scanning.
Some users experience file association and other problems with an uninstall of past versions.  So it is safest to leave them be.
If you want to clean up a little resist the urge to move any Adobe programs once is is installed.  Can really foul it up.

  • How do I avoid continuous Autosave errors in Numbers for MAC 03?

When I start a new spreadsheet in Numbers for MAC 03, after a few keystrokes, I get the error message 'The document "mySpreadsheet" could not be autosaved. It has been changed by another application.' Of course I click "Save Anyway", but the message reappears after a few more keystrokes. There is no other application involved with this document. This is extremely annoying and impedes progress. I saw a discussion about the same problem occuring with Pages. The thread mentioned something about iCloud, but there was no resolution suggested. I do have iCloud enabled on my system, but I don't specify saving to iCloud - I specify to save it on my Deskltop. I have an iMAC with OS X 10.9.1. Help!!

    Jeff,
Thanks for responding to my question. As is often the case when one iss attempting to demonstrate an issue, today I can't repeat the problem. Even with files that were previously exhibiting it. So what changed? I was having problems witth my Carbonite backup because of Kaspersky Internet Security for MAC. I eliminated Kaspersky from my login startup apps, rebooted my machine, and reinstalled Carbonite (it couldn't find its server before). Now Carbonite is working, and I don't have the Numbers autosave problem. After my backup completes, I will restart Kaspersky and see I can reproduce the autosave problem. The strange thing is the autosave problem occured before I installed Kaspersky in the first place. I don't understand how any of this had anything to do with autosave, but I am thankful that my machine is better behaved for now.
I don't have Stuffit Expander installed, but why did you suspect it?
I will continue, and if the problem re-occurs, I will try the Save to Documents instead of Desktop and let you know. Thanks again.

  • Where can I find a checkbook register template for Numbers for Mac?

    Hello:
I am new to Mac and Numbers would like a checkbook register for Numbers for Mac. Numerous internet searches have shows Numbers from 2009 or earlier came with a template but the most current version of Numbers (which I of course have) did not come with it. I am not comfortable enough in Mac or Numbers yet to create my own.
    Please help!
    Thank you!
    Kelly J

    Kelly,
The Budget Template in Numbers 3 can be modified to include a Checkbook function by adding one row and one column to the Transactions table.
Here's what it would look like:
There are a couple of significant changes, one for you and some for the document.
The change for you is that you must remember to enter checks as negative numbers and deposits a positive numbers. This is standard accounting practice - money going away is negative, money coming in is positive.
Besides the new column in Transactions, you also must put a minus sign in front of the expression in the Actual column of the Summary by Category table in the Budget Sheet.
The expression in the new column of the transactions table is:
    =IF(D=0, "", E$2+SUM(D$2:D3))
The extra row in the Transactions is just to hold the label for beginning balance.

    Jerry

  • How to install Numbers for Mac (iWork 9.0.3)

On my iMac running under Mavericks, i want to install the previous version of Numbers.
The current version which came with the computer, is 3.0.1. I suppose the previous version is Numbers for Mac 2.0. I cannot find this version for download.
I do own iWork 9.0.3 on cd which includes Numbers 9 (installed on my MacBook with Mountain Lion) but I am reluctant to install the cd on the iMac. I have a SuperDrive .
What happens if I run the cd installer and click  the "Install" button (after the licence agreement)? Will the complete iWorks package be installed automatically including Pages and Keynote? Or will I get a choice to select Numbers only? Or is there an option to select Numbers only by hitting a key on my keyboard (this option was available with the Option key in previous OS versions but I cannot find it now).
My data are protected using  Time Machine, but I feel insecure whether installing the complete iWorks cd will produce unwanted effects.

OK to install from CD.  After you complete the install, immediately check for updates using the Menu item:
    " > Software Update…"
The installer will install Keynote, Pages and Numbers.  iWork '09 apps can co-exist with the latest version.
The Latest version of iWork Apps are stored in the folder "/Applications" and the previous version (which you are installing from the DVD) are stored in the folder "/Applications/iWork '09"

  • HT202879 does numbers for mac have a mail merge feature

Will numbers for mac offer a mail merge feature?

    Nicole Lynn,
Version 2 of Numbers (iWork '09) does have Mail Merge. If your profile is correct, that's probably what you are using. The instructions for using the feature are in the Pages User Guide PDF.
If your profile is out of date and you are using iWork '13 apps, you're out of luck. But, you can always go back to Version 2 of Numbers and Version 4 of Pages.

  • Where are rooms inside Lync for Mac?

Where are rooms inside Lync for Mac? (14.0.10)
We do have Lync 2013 server and configured the persistent chats / rooms. People using the Windows version are able to use it but we are not able to see any support for rooms in mac version.

    Hi uıɹos,
Anthony is right that the Persistent Chat feature isn't available at this time in the Mac client.
But in the first half of 2015 Microsoft will release a public beta for the next version of Office for Mac, and in the second half of 2015 Microsoft will make the final release available. And
I believe that it will be supported this time. (http://blogs.office.com/2014/10/31/new-outlook-mac-available-office-365-customers/ )

Make sure your Mac is set to English before you go to the App Store.
Be warned however thast Pages 5, with a few exceptions is actually a downgrade with over 90+ features removed:

  • Work a iPad mini as screen for Mac mini?

I Have a iPad mini 1 and I think about to buy a Mac mini, could I use the iPad as the screen for the Mac?
    best regards

There are apps that allow you to use an iOS device as a secondary screen for a computer. Search the App Store. Here are some:

There are also apps that allow you to control a computer using the iOS device. Some are the free for non-commercial use TeamViewer and the paid GoToMyPC and LogMeIn

  • What is difference between Numbers for Mac and for iPod Touch?

Trying to decide pros/cons of getting Numbers for my iMac vs. just for my iPod Touch? Obviously, one is cheaper than the other.  Dumb question, but I guess I cannot use Numbers downloaded from App Store on my iMac; just on my iPod Touch?  And, can I just buy Numbers for iMac; seems only option is to buy as part of package under iWorks (don't need Pages or Keynote for the home).

    (1) Numbers for iOS and Numbers for OSX are completely different products building files using the same format.
    (2) You may buy Numbers as a single application thru Mac App Store. The application Mac App Store is delivered with Lion.

  • How to purchase Numbers for mac and install

I would like to buy Numbers (for spreadsheets) for my 2009 MacBook Pro and install. I do not want iLion at this time- just the $19.99 Numbers. Help!

    Hi...
Minimum requirement for Numbers is Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later so you're fine without upgrading to Lion.
Just click the price button then click Buy App.
