[request] Jriver Media Center 19 for linux

It would be very nice  a package for Jriver Media Center 19 for linux.
Reference here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=35.0
I have installed manually in my system. It's a 32 bit package and it needs lib32-curl 7.23.1 (not the last one in repository).
You can see my discussion here:

Luckly requirement for libcrypto++ and libboost-regex has been dropped!
I remember that this Media Center is one of the best ever made. The version for linux is Audio only, but can play also DSD bitstream.

• 5600-VTDR256 (Alternative to Media Center II for watching TV)

Hello, I would like to know if there is any alternative application that I can use to watch TV instead of Media Center II.
I would really hope that there are other softwares available that play out anything that the nVidia WDM drivers give them.
Reasons for shifting are:
When watching TV on Media Center the bottom 2 inches of screen are cropped in the software, and the picture is very slightly narrowed (as in its made a square forcefully)
Media Center always mutes my Wave/Mp3 sound on startup and on exit doesn't fix this and put the Line In on full.
Media Center on exit turns on the power management icon in the task bar which appears after reboot, and I have to turn off the option (Always show power management icon in task bar) manually.
If anyone can help out it'll be really appreciated.

do a search of these forums and/or google them for reviews/pros/cons of the following MCD II alternatives:
Dscaler 4.1.8 (i use this for watching TV)
WinampTV
VirtualVCR
FlyTV
ChrisTV
intervideo winDVR (i use this for timeshifting and recording)
powerDVR (or whatever it is called from cyberlink)
good luck.
sorry i can't help with your errors on MCDII. i had similar issues and deleted it.
regards

• Re: Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.2 Media Pack v1 for Linux x86-64-bit avaliable NOW!

Hi All,
Have a good Morning!
So as I said I would, I tried to install R12.2.2 this week-end.
VM Config:
4 CPU
8gigs RAM
500gigs HDD
OREL 5.9
I followed the document provided to install all the O/S pre-req. Everything went smooth.
Downloaded all the files (From startCD 1/3 until last file before NLS media pack).
Created the stage directory (unzipped startCD 1/3, 2/3 and 3/3 then ran Disk1/rapidwiz/bin/buildstage.sh [or something like that IIRC])
Executed rapidwiz.
Filled the rapidwiz install screens.
Database installed successfully.
Now for the application, the main install script start on friday ~5pm and sunday 3pm, it didn't move yet.
Looking at the log file, I could see it copied all files, executed some scripts up to the main install part.
Looking at the install pdf (in the Documents directory), Oracle recommend a minimum of 10gigs of RAM for 0-10 users. I though for a "lab" i would be fine, but I guess not (looking at "free -g" during the database install, I could see that I had 6gigs ram free and when the main apps install script start, I had 0 free, which seems to point in the same direction).
So I ordered more RAM and will retry once I have more
Have a good day!
Félix

My install got stuck at 38% in Apps Tier as well. Doing some strace found that one script was expecting and input of JDK from user. Since it was in the background it was waiting forever.
Tried it on a virtualbox vm (10GB ram) yesterday. Today got the same issue on a baremetal server.
The command that hangs is the last runInstaller in this tree (pid=13183)
runWizard.sh,26863 /rhdevldb01/appsbox/staging/rapidinst/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin/runWizard.sh /rhdevldb01/appsbox/staging/rapidinst/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz FALSE

strace -p 13183 gives the following in the loop
access("hA\25\0373/bin/java", F_OK)
= -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
read(0, "", 1024)
= 0
access("hA\25\0373/bin/java", F_OK)
= -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
write(1, "tion :\nPlease specify a valid JD"..., 1024) = 1024
read(0, "", 1024)
= 0
access("hA\25\0373/bin/java", F_OK)
= -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
read(0, "", 1024)
The rapid install document mentioned that on the Apps Tier setups - there will be a checkbox for using 64 bit JDK.
I did not see any such checkbox.
Looks like the install software has bugs already. That did not take long :-)
For 12.1.1 I recall startcd had to be patched first.

• Best stable media partition filesystem for Linux/OSX dual boot

Hi there, dual booting linux and Snow Leopard.. I am re-formatting my media partition (which I keep separate from the linux and osx files so as to keep them safe if I want to reinstall/upgrade the operating systems or mess something up), and was wondering as to the best filesystem I should pick? I would do ext4, but from what I understand osx cannot read/write to it natively or in a stable fashion. Keep in mind the media partition will be used to hold/read all the files when using the computer, including when watching movies, playing music, writing documents, storing photos, etc..
Any suggestions? Thanks!

gagejd wrote:How bad is this instability with hfs+? Am I going to lose some files or corrupt a few documents when I randomly reboot the computer, or shutdown improperly?
I rarely reboot or shutdown improperly, so I have no insights to offer into the impacts of these behaviours on HFS+ in Linux.
IIRC, I once had a catastrophic and irreparable error when I used the command line in Linux to change a directory name on an HFS+ filesystem from being all lowercase to start with an uppercase letter. I had to restore the filesystem contents from backup.
Other than that, I have lots of minor, easily fixable, but somewhat troublingly frequent errors with incorrect numbers of inodes and such like.
If you are bringing Windows into the equation, I seem to recall a Slashdot article from within the last couple of years which had a question re: sharing files in a triple-boot environment (Windows, OS X, and Linux). If you can track down the article, the comments may be useful.

I've looked everywhere, but I could not find the upgrade to this. This thing came with a cd, and I installed it as normal. I could not upgrade the other stuff like THX, EAX, CMS ver 2.0 and more. The only thing I can do is add that cd-burner patch.

• PE5 add-in for Vista Media Center

I upgraded from PE$ -> 5 a while ago and noticed that I lost the media center icon for photoshop elements.
How do I get this to work with PE5? I see the Digital Home files and have done a uninstall and re-install of the app already..
Thanks

PSE 5 does work under Vista Home Premium.
What is the media center icon?

• [Review] Intel Atom 330 / Nvidia Ion based Media Center

I thought some of you may be interested. I've just bought a Point of View Mobii ION Mini PC to build a media center.
There are other Nvidia ION based Mini PCs available, but there are few points that made my choice for the Point of View one:
- Intel Atom 330 (Dual Core)
- Mini ITX
- 2 GB RAM
- 320 GB HDD
- 1 Available PCI-Express Slot (hopefully a good DVB-S(2) TV Card with CI will be available soon)
- SPDIF / Toslink Digital Audio Out
- 8 USB Ports (6 Back, 2 Front)
- HDMI Out (Thought that this would be important, but more on this later), DVI, VGA
- No CPU or Motherboard Fan
Additionally I bought a Keysonic ACK-540BT Bluetooth Keyboard with an integrated touchpad. I added 1 GB DDR2 RAM to the PC for a total of 3 GB.
Arch Linux worked straight out of the box, but there are a few things to note:
- The Intel Atom 330 does NOT support Intel Speedstep, therefore no frequency scaling is possible
- I don't want a login manager, just a straight lxde Desktop with an autostarting XBMC, but Blueman (needed for autopairing with the bluetooth keyboard) needed a ck-launch-session to get access to the bluetooth dongle (took me a while to find this out)
- XBMC supports VDPAU out of the box if you configure it, CPU usage when playing a movie is below 20%
- I disconnected the hdd and power LED because they are quite bright (the cabinet I use for my equipment has a glass door)
- The Mini PC is not hearable from 0.5 meters even when hdd is working
- HDMI Output works flawless but my SONY LCD TV is not a Full HD one but has a native resolution of 1360x768. With HDMI I could only choose between 720p (1280x720) which is too small or 1080i (1920x1080) which would be too large. I now use a standard VGA DSUB cable and get a perfectly sharp 1360x768 resolution. No need for HDMI
Just if anyone is interested:
- glxgears: ~2400 fps
hdparm -Tt /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 1304 MB in 2.00 seconds = 651.94 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 358 MB in 3.00 seconds = 119.22 MB/sec
This is the perfect media center solution for me, capable of managing more than 15.000 mp3 and m4a, a bunch of divx videos and dvd isos, 10.000 photos and hundreds of shoutcast internet radio stations. All managable with a wireless keyboard and touchpad on my Sony LCD TV. Just the tv card is missing...

i am also working on my zotac-9300 itx. i also have the problem of get the right resolution. my tv was bought three years ago and i attached a hdmi cable to it in case some day (such as today) i will use it. however, the zotac hdmi does not work with the tv. either the tv does not detect the signal or the motherboard does not send the signal out. anyway, i use a dvi->hdmi adapter now. but the resolution is still not right. (will fix it later). the 9300 works great on h264, but somehow has trouble with the HD tv signal. although the cpu usage is low when playing those HD channels, but the frames are not smooth. i am using kaffeine to work tv. i am trying to get the vlc to work with vdpau (or vaapi) but has no luck. anyway, good to share our experience on htpc.
ps. my board is using a internal power supply which give me some noise when the room is quiet, but it is ok when watching moives.

• Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center - Problems with Activation

Hello.
I was one of those who tried Windows 8 early and got a Windows Media Center key for free.
Today through Dreamspark Premium I got a Windows 8.1 key.
I normally used my new Windows 8.1 key and Windows 8.1 were activated successfully and because I remembered I had a Windows Media Center into my e-mail archive folder I used it in "Add features to Windows 8".
Windows accepted the key, added Windows Media Center and rebooted.
After the reboot, Windows 8.1 got deactivated and it won't accept my genuine Windows 8.1 Pro key.
I do not wish to format my pc or re-install everything . I just want to activate my Windows 8.1.
I do not care about Windows Media Center, I just want to activate them with my genuine key.

Hi,
Based on the current situation, I would like to suggest you to contact Microsoft Product Activation Center by telephone to verify the product key and activate your system.
To start the Product Activation Wizard, follow these steps:
1. At the Start screen, swipe in from the right side, or hover your mouse in the upper-right corner of the screen to display the charms menu.
2. Tap or click the Settings charm.
3. Tap or click Change PC Settings.
4. If your PC is not activated, PC Settings will provide instructions that are customized to your activation error. If telephone support can provide help for your error, tap or click the appropriate link, which may resemble one of the
following:
a. Activate
b. Activate by phone
c. Contact customer support for help
For the detail information, refer to the following link:

• Windows 7 as a media center extender?

I have a Vista Ultimate box that I use as my media center. I have a notebook with Windows 7 installed on it that I would like to use as a media center extender. Is this possible?
For the life of me I can't seem to figure it out. My Vista machine hasn't given me the notice of a new media center PC on the network like it does when a new Vista media center shows up...
Appreciate any guidance....

Hi there, I asked the following question over at the Windows 7 beta QnA and got silence, and from what I am reading here, I thought perhaps you could answer. This may be an odd place to post new questions (in mid-discussion) but it seems on topic, and I didn't want to waste readers' time by posting a new topic.
Will Windows 7 stream to another PC or "Play To" recorded TV files that were recorded using WMC?Will
other Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP PCs be able to play
recorded TV streams from a Windows 7 machine over a home network?
If
so, will those PCs be able to get all the show info such as title, time
and date, episode summary, etc in order to navigate and choose the
correct recorded TV episode?
Another, similar question is will Windows
7 be able to act as a software-based media center extender for another
machine (Windows 7, Vista Home Premium or Ultimate, or XP MCE) running
Windows Media Center?
One more question is...is any of this possible in Windows Vista? I have one PC with Vista that I use as my media center/DVR and my other systems in the house are running Xp or Mac O/S. I can share and then access the recorded TV folder via my network and play the files on the other systems in the house (yes, even the Mac) but I don't get any of the fantastic WMC front-end UI, which turns out to be more than just a pretty wrapper slapped on it, because it also gives specific episode names, recording dates, and episode summaries, and groups the episodes per series(if desired). When combing the files via a network share, the naming convention is all convoluted and the experience is not very intuitive. I could use an extender such as the xbox 360 to watch this stuff on tv, but it is more convenient to watching on my computers.

• Bootcamp and Media Center 2005

I have a full version of media center intended for any pc and whenever i try to install it on my macbook pro via leopard, the entire install process will go through, but after install i boot to windows and i get a disk error. Any ideas. I was able to install this exact same OS via the bootcamp beta, and even after the upgrade to leopard, the MCE 2005 os worked. But after i did a comlete os install of leopard, i can no longer use leopards boot camp to install this os successfully. Any ideas, or where can i get a old copy of bootcamp beta?

I just installed Windows w/Media Center 2005 on my iMac core2duo 2GHz 2GB ram with Leopard two nights ago. I received the same issue on my first install attempt. Boot camp creates a Fat32 partition, so I used the convert to NTFS when I installed Media Center. I thought it worked until the restart. I had to reformat the partition NTFS and install again. This time with no problems.

• Is there a way to combine Media Center and Nettop?

Hi there!
I just ordered a mini-ITX mainboard including all the necessary components to set up a file server/media center combination. Now I realized I'll hardly need my real desktop computer. So to keep my electricity bill down I guess I'll shift to the new nettop-like thing for my daily computing needs. The question arising is:
Is there any way to have a smooth media center UI for mp3/dvd/CD playback, but also have the option of running an ordinary desktop environment for more serious stuff? I don't know anything about xbmc, mythtv and the likes. I assume something like "have the user decide from kdm whether to run xbmc or kde" would work, but this makes for some very un-seamless switching between media playback and serious stuff. Is there some better way? I'd prefer running like xbmc, cause I expect it to boot faster than kde4, but I may be wrong...
Any ideas anybody?
Best wishes,
Rufus

You can run xbmc in full-screen mode and set it to start at boot.
I have openbox running on mine but you could just as easily use kde or gnome. When xbmc starts full-screen there is no border so you can't tell that its really just an app running over a "normal" WM/DM.   If you need to minimize it you can just hit the \ button which brings it to "windowed" mode where you can move the window, minimize it, etc.

• Accessing Mac media in Windows Media Center 7

Hey all. Just started to delve into Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro and am very eager to try out Windows Media Center, especially for the potential usage I could benefit from by linking it with my XBox 360. Anyways, I'm trying to make the source of media be my iTunes folder on my Mac Partition and I can find it, select it and do not understand why Media Center cannot access it. I've tried opening the mp3 files in Windows explorer and opening them in Windows Media Player and they work fine, but Media Center is having issues opening them. Any ideas on how to fix this and make it work? THank you.

Hi Casey,
I don't use Media Center but it might be that by default a BootCamp Windows has only read-access to the OSX partition and cannot write to it.
It might be that Media Center is trying to write 'something' to the mp3 files and because of failing to do so does not open them.
MacDrive http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/ gives Windows complete read and write access to the OSX partition.
Regards
Stefan
