Request: OS X 10.4 Tiger for Intel Macbook 2.2 Mhz

Hi All,
I recently bought a macbook 2.2 mhz intel machine from the apple store, which shipped with leopard.
Since I use it with some software which does not work on 10.5 yet, I need to downgrade my Mac to Tiger.
The only problem is that I need to do this with install disks that belong to the exact same Macbook as mine, but then one that shipped with Tiger.
So what I am hoping to find somewhere is:
- A Clone of a Mac install Disk(s) for a powerbook 2.2 Mhz, USA or Canadian Model, with an English keyboard layout. I already tried the disks from a European macbook, and its no good, so I really need a clone of an american one.
If someone could hook me up with these, or point me in the right direction, I would really, really apreciate it.
I know this is kind of a weird question, but without tiger this macbook is useless to me. going to the store and buying tiger is also useless, as the factory bundle is not intel compatible. I also know that some people think this cannot be done, but I know for a fact that it can be done, as long as I have a set of install disks for this specific model.
I hope someone can help me out.
Would be much apreciated!
thanks in advance for any help
cheers,
PM

You do realize that MacOS X 10.4 is NOT supported on the Santa Rosa Macbooks by Apple. You can go out and buy a copy of Tiger.
However, it should work since MacOS X Leopard isn't a huge departure from Tiger on the underlying architecture.

Also I wanted to point out that you're in the Final Cut Express forum asking about Final Cut Pro. Not a huge deal but in the future you might get better results asking Final Cut Pro related questions in the Final Cut Pro forum.

  • Is it possible to change 10.5.2 to 10.4 Leopard to Tiger for new computer?

For some reasons I need to start up my new MacBook Pro by OS 10.4 (Tiger).
The computer doesn't accept to install Tiger. Is it locked to Leopard and doesn't
work with any previous OS? I'd like to install it on my external hard disc but It's
not possible. Do you have any idea how to run the installer? (the installer is for
    intel based apple).

Is it locked to Leopard and doesn't work with any previous OS?
    Yes.
Do you have any idea how to run the installer?
You can't. If you use another machine to install it, it won't boot.

  • Running Snow Leopard but need Tiger for ONE application... Possible?

Hello all... I currently have an intel Macbook Pro which is about 3.5 yrs old. My OS is Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and I love it.. however, I also need to use an old version of Avid Xpress Pro which recommends running 10.4.6-10.4.8 (Tiger). This is the only application that I have that requires this OS... Unfortunately, I need the app for now.
    My question is this:
Can I partition (or by any other means) a portion of my Mac for Tiger 10.4.8 and the rest for Snow Leopard?
If so how do I go about it?
    Many thanks!!

Having the original disks does not matter... the question is, what did your Mac _ship with_? If it shipped with Tiger, then you can certainly partition and install Tiger on a second partition. Of course, if it were me, I would probably just buy an external drive and install Tiger on that, but that's just personal preference. If you choose to partition, just make sure you've got a good set of backups. You should be able to do it without erasing, but should not gamble your data on it going off without a hitch.
OTOH, if your Mac shipped with something other than Tiger, you simply cannot run Tiger on it. See:

  • NetInstall dosen't work for intel machines

When booting the machines in my lab while holding down the OPTION key, only the G5 and earlier machines are giving me the icon for NetInstall. NetInstall works great on the G5 and earlier, but dosen't work at all on any intel machine I've tried. The image is marked as "Universal" in Server Manager, and is an image from an intel MacBook.
    Leopard Server 10.5.1
I have 20 new iMac's in route. I really need NetInstall to work for them. Any help would be appreciated.

You say that your NetInstall was taken from an Intel MacBook. Was its OS Leopard? If it is Leopard then you do have a bizarre problem on your hands as it is Universal. Tiger client, on the other hand, is not Universal.
How new are the target clients? Could they have been shipped with a build of Leopard newer than the one you've based this NetInstall on?

  • SOLARIS for INTEL: Have future?

I could find few products without roadmaps for Solaris/Intel. Without apps, I need to change the platform.
Who can know more about this situation?
    Regards
    Cheet CTICTI

Solaris for Intel is a low budget variant of getting Solaris out there. The application support is mainly for SPARC based systems if you are trying to buy software. But there is a plethora of free and open source applications out there too. Get yourself a copy of gcc and start compiling your favorite apps that you find at http://freshmeat.net.
Since you make no specific requests, it's hard to mention what apps are available and which ones aren't.

  • Oracle RDBMS for Intel MacOS X

In reading the other posts about Oracle Instant Client for Intel MacOS X, I see a lot of others are stating that no one is asking for Oracle RDBMS to be supported natively on Mac OS X (Intel).
For the record, there are many others that are asking for this from Oracle (and have been since Intel of Mac OS X was announced). I too need the Oracle Instant Client, but I really need Oracle RDBMS released as well (10g for Tiger (Intel) or better).
We have been waiting for Oracle's promise a few years ago to treat the Mac as First Class Enterprise platform. We invested in this and have been shipping our "single box" solution. However our customers are held back by only able to run Oracle 10g on Panther Server since our product must be run in a certified environment.
Oracle on Mac OS X for us has been very stable and has served our development and customers well. However, it is just not able to run "certified" on the newer hardware architecture (Intel) and a machine replacement cycle is overdue because of this.
I hope that Oracle visits this issue soon and has an announcement coincident with the launch of Leopard (UNIX 03).
I realize some of you have different needs and run the RDBMS on another platform, but not us. So please count a vote for me for both an Oracle Instant Client AND Oracle RDBMS for Mac OS X (Intel).

In reading the other posts about Oracle Instant
Client for Intel MacOS X, I see a lot of others are
stating that no one is asking for Oracle RDBMS to be
supported natively on Mac OS X (Intel).Yeah, well, those are the same people who seem to think that all it takes to release a new version of the client is switching a compiler flag, waiting 15 minutes for a build, and dumping the result onto the OTN download site. Hyperbole trumps reality. In other words, it's an Internet forum. ;-)
I'm sure you've already done this, but you're much, much better off getting on the phone with your Oracle rep and detailing to him/her just how much licensing revenue they realistically stand to lose if they don't give some attention to the Intel Mac platform. I could believe that the recent tone of discourse on this forum about "Oracle on OS X/Intel" might actually erode the position that it's a useful product direction for Oracle, so anything that license-paying folk can do to convince them otherwise would be great. :-)
Otherwise, it's just the same 5 people posting semi-anonymously making vague threats about moving to some other platform and/or venting their spleens about horrible they think Oracle is (which, I know is often a huge motivator for anyone to take on a project...)

  • Install 10.4.10 on external for Intel, How ?

    Hi,
I want to create an external firewire startup boot drive running 10.4.10 (Tiger) for my
    Intel processor Mac Book Pro.
I just realized that I can't start up my MacBook Pro via an external drive
because I can't install a system on the external drive because the boxed
DVD of Tiger MA453Z/A I have is only for PowerPC macs.
When i insert the DVD and launch the installer it tells me :
"Mac OS X 10.4 cannot be installed on this machine" even though it's running
10.4.10. It should really say can't install on an Intel mac?
    (MA453Z/A installs 10.4.6)
I guess I'm asking where can I buy a 10.4 Tiger install DVD for Intel and how
can I be sure it will install on, create a working boot drive for Intel macs ?
What is the part number of the install DVD that will boot an Intel Mac?
    (because I know it's not "MA453Z/A")
    Points to consider :
An external drive must be formatted "GUID Partition Table" to be used as a boot drive for an Intel mac.

The specific system disks for each Mac model are designed to only start up/install on that model, and they've never been available to buy. In addition, since every Intel Mac came with Tiger pre-installed, Apple made the decision not to release an Intel-compatible retail version. Which makes it doubly important not to lose the disks!
A good idea, actually, is to make copies of them. You can use Disk Utility to do this:
    - Insert each disk, launch Disk Utility. In its left-hand pane, find the disk, and select the lower CD image (it'll say something like "Mac OS X Install" or "System Restore".
    - Go to FIle - New - Disk Image From (cd name). For "Image Format" choose "DVD/CD master" and Encryption should be None. Save the new image to your desktop, make sure that the name of the disk image includes the disk number (eg 1 of 3, if you have 3 disks). You'll end up with a ".cdr" file.
    - Do this for each disk. You should now have a list of .cdr images in Disk Utility's left pane.
    - Put a blank CD or DVD (depending on the original media) into your drive, highlight the first image in the list, and click Burn. Repeat for the other images. Once duplicated, you can delete the disk images from your desktop.
    - Put the copies somewhere safe!
(There's a Disk Copy function in Toast Titanium, if you own that, which is a bit more intuitive.)
    Good luck
    Matt

  • V10.4.7 for Intel Macs only?

Can anyone confirm for me whether or not there exists a Tiger version 10.4.7 which is only for Intel Macs?

    There was also this:

This updated an Intel Mac up to 10.4.7. It required that a previous version of 10.4 already be installed.

  • Shutterfly Export Assistant for Intel Macs

After successfully downloading/installing Shutterfly's Export Assistant plugin for iPhoto 6.0.5 I soon realized that the "Shutterfly" tab was missing from the iPhoto File/Export menu. Searching Apple's Discussions I found posts of Jan '06 that say that Shutterfly currently does not support this plugin for Intel Macs. In fact, one of the posts gave a link to a Shutterfly page (http://www.shutterfly.com/downloads/sys_req.jsp?sw=osx) which unfortunately states, "Note: New Macintosh computers using an Intel processor are not yet supported." Bummer. I sent email to Shutterfly requesting when their plugin will work. In the meanwhile, does anyone have current informtion that can be shared on this topic? Thanks!

Here is the response from Shutterfly on how to get their Shutterfly Export Assistant for iPhoto on Intel Macs to work. I personally haven't had time to try this yet but plan to soon.
    "Thank you for contacting Shutterfly.
We are sorry to hear that you have been having difficulties in using your plugin. We have heard from a few Mac customers that there are problems using the iPhoto plug-in on computers set up with multiple users. You can certainly try to use the plug-in, but be aware that it may only function for the main (root) user on the Mac by default.
To fix this, you need to go to the iphoto icon in applications, apple/click get info. go to the plug-in section, select the Shutterfly plug-in, click ownership and change it to everyone as opposed to a particular user. This will solve the problem.
Also please note that, there are two versions one for Intel Macs and one for Power PC Macs uninstall the one you currently have installed then reboot your computer go back and redownload the upload assistant and make sure you have the correct version for the processor your using. If you still find you are have these issues please give us a call at (800) 986-1065 and ask to be transferred to technical escalation so we can help you further. • Formatting my intel-MacBook (Tiger)

    Hi!
I have 1 internal harddisk in my intel MacBook. This harddisk is partitioned to two different partitions, one for osx 10.4 tiger, and the other is for WinXP (FAT32). Here comes my problem:
    - I want to format my whole internal HD to only osx 10.4 (I want to delete the WinXP partition, restore it to a single disk volume, the reinstall osx!)
The problem is that Bootcamp assis is expired in Tiger, so I can't just restore to a single disk!!
I tried to reinstall Tiger (i thought that it might restore the disks to a single disk, then install osx) but it didn't help, is still have two different patitions!!!
What should i do?? How do i solve this problem?? (allready searched the forum, nothing specific on my problem!!)
Please tell me how to do, step by step, i'm new to mac!!

use your Tiger install disc and mount to the desktop. select install OSX and let that disc boot the Mac. Once the install disc is booted then go to the top file menu and select disk utility. you may need to select your language first then go to disk utility. launch disk utility and select your hard drive then select partition and then make it ONE partition give it a name then let it do its thing. quit disk utility and continue with your Tiger install.

Although this 10.4.6 install package for an iBook may work on your iBook, usually the build must be identical also.
A link I provided in one of my previous posts in this thread.

This install package may install OK on your iBook but if the build is not identical, it may not work correctly after the fact.
Since the bods at the Apple Store you visited said this makes no difference - this iBook 10.4.6 install package you acquired will work on ANY non-Intel Mac, what are you worried about? Use it but to be on the safe side, I would first get the bods at this Apple Store to provide you a free exchange for a Tiger retail install install package if your install package doesn't work.
