Request: PDF Viewer plug-in for Firefox

So, just what is wrong with Adobe? Shouldn't this be a no-brainer?

EEE! All right! Good-bye Adobe! I found a very good working option -- no plug in required!:
http://www.docufarm.com/ (Can't find it through mozilla, but I did a virus scan before I downloaded it, and it was clean (you should always do that)). An explanation as to how it works is located at
http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2007/05/preview-documents-with-docufarm.html
Three problems with the PDF Browser Plug-In:
(1) Limited features -- cannot search within the document
You can direct the plug-in to use Adobe (or other viewer) to open, but then the document is downloaded which belays the whole point of having the plug-in...
(2) Scrolling issues (minor, I could live with it, but it is annoying): using the scrollbar tends to break the display and you have to reload the document
(3) PDF Browser Plug-In does not work directly with Mac Intel (must run Rosetta) -- this is an issue since I'm about to upgrade my powerbook...
I agree it likely comes from higher than the poor programmers. Either Mac/FF users simply aren't a large enough group to get priority (I was kinda hoping this thread would prove that wrong), or the directive came from Apple (not Adobe) -- they've been stupid about the competition thing before... ...but if feature requests aren't read by anyone at Adobe what's the point of having a feature request forum?

  • Problem with adobe pdf viewer plug-in for safari

    I recently updated from adobe reader 8 to adobe reader 9 and now pdf documents that I view on Safari won't open. I get this message that says 'adobepdfviewer does not recognize a compatible adobe acrobat or adobe reader program' This is really strange because I have both Adobe reader 9 and Adobe acrobat installed. If you have any advice or solutions it would be much appreciated.

    Personally, I like to open PDFs that I have saved to my hard drive in Adobe Reader, because I find it quicker, especially with PDF files that have many pages. I also find the resizing controls and search functions more useful in Adobe Reader. At the same time, for quick looks when clicking on web links, I don't mind letting Safari open some PDF files. So having both capabilities is important to me.
    one000mph, your problem might be in the Adobe Reader / Acrobat preferences settings. It's perfectly possible to have these programs installed and still view PDFs in Safari, so there really isn't a need to delete either or both of the programs.
    If you still have one or the other of those installed, check its preferences "Internet" setting where it says, "Display PDF in browser using ..." I have that set to "Adobe Reader 8.1.2" and its working nicely. If you don't have Adobe Reader installed any longer you might have different options there than I have. Try the different settings there and see if changing them solves the problem.

  • I have repeatibly loaded Adobe Acrobat Reader but the Plugin Check gives me Adobe Acrobat Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.0.1 Outdated Version Update. While the plug in check is important it is quite bothersome at present. Please help.

    EVERY TIME the browser boots it kicks off the plug in check. I understand that this is important but it is currently a pain. Once I update Adobe Acrobat Plug in the browser does not recognize that the plug in has been installed and keeps coming up and up an up an up.
    This is the message I get.

  • How can I find a PDF plug in for Firefox 5 running on Mac OSX (10.6)

    I recently installed an Update and received a message that my PDF Plug In for Firefox would be disabled, but that when the Update had been installed the Plug in would be enabled. This has not happened.
    I am running Firefox 5 on Mac OSX (10.6)

    I've tried the download three times. It reports that installation was successful, but when I use Firefox I still get only an option to download the .pdf; I still can't read it within the browser. This fix WAS for Firefox 5.0, right?

  • PDF Plug-in for Firefox on Macintosh Copy & Paste

    PDF Plug-in for Firefox on Macintosh needs to allow for copy and paste functionality using the keyboard instead of only working with a mouse click when filling out online forms.

    Yes, it's an identical copy (incl. version, dates and digitally-signed certs) as far as I can see on all these 3 folders located at C:\Program files\
    -> Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Browser -> nppdf32.dll
    -> Mozilla Firefox\plugins -> nppdf32.dll
    -> Internet Explorer\PLUGINS -> nppdf32.dll <--- This folder and file
    Please also note that IE Activex controls (3 files - also at version 9.5.2.295) are located at  C:\Program files\Common files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\
    -> AcroPDF.dll (PDF Browser Control)
    -> AcroIEHelper.dll (Adobe PDF Helper for Internet Explorer) and

    Weird indeed! Any ideas?

  • PDF Plug-In For Firefox found at my IE Program Folder?

    Hi:
    During recent troubleshooting of my Adobe Reader 9.5.2 update's installation, I found a 'PLUGINS' folder containing a copy of the 'Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox (nppdf32.dll)', located at my Internet Explorer Program's files folder.
    I wonder what would a Plugin for Firefox be possibly doing with my IE's files?
    Does anybody know or have seen this?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Where can I get the plug in for firefox so I can view like internet explorer...

    where can I get the plug in for firefox so I can view like internet explorer...

    There are 2 versions of the add-on, [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10909/ IE Tab Plus] and [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/92382/ IE Tab 2]. They both perform the same function of opening Internet Explorer inside a Firefox tab, the main difference between the two is that IE Tab Plus also supports the Adblock Plus add-on being used inside the IE tab and can synchronize cookies.

  • Save As dialog hangup (Plug-in for Firefox)

    Hi folks,
    I'm running Firefox 5.0, equipped with the Adobe Acrobat (Reader?) 10.1.0.534 Plug-In for Firefox, on several fully patched XP Pro systems.  On a regular basis I view publicly accessible/non-DRMd PDFs via the Plug-in and save a copy by mousing to the bottom of the viewport to activate the autohide toolbar thingy and clicking on "Save a copy".  Doing so causes a Save As dialog to pop up.  Very frequently, an attempt to use that Save As dialog... immediately clicking Save to save to the default directory or clicking the Desktop icon to change to a different directory... will cause that Save As dialog to indefinetely hang.  In order to clear this condition I have to kill the AcroRd32.exe process, and sometimes also the plugin-container.exe and firefox.exe processes as well. The problem is intermittent in the sense that it sometimes happens and sometimes doesn't happen, even for the same exact PDF file.  This is something I've coped with for a very long time, under different versions of Firefox, on old as well as newly created XP Pro installs, before and after purging/reinstalling Firefox and Adobe software, different versions of the Plug-in, etc.
    Is this a known problem?  Has anyone else experienced this type of problem and found a way to prevent it from happening?  Thanks in advance.

    Acrobat is now at 11.0.3. Fixes for earlier versions come later.

  • AdobePDF Plug-in for Firefox & Netscape 10.0.1 won't update for me

    I check my plug-ins almost daily. Adobe Acrobat needed to update. I have never had trouble before with this.
    It's Adobe PDF Plug-in for Firefox and Netscape 10.0.1 that won't update. Thing is the Adobe Manger came on and it looked like it was done and in my Add-ons box it's there but the plug-in on my Firefox plug-in page says it's outdated. I tried to install it several times and the Adobe Manger downloads but site still says it's outdated. My Adobe Reader X works fine though. Maybe this is something I don't have to worry about but I don't know. So, I'm asking for some help.
    Also, even though this didn't update correctly, when I did update the first time it brought along a new plug-in called getPlusPlus for Adobe 162103, at first I disabled it in my add-0n/plug-in box but I read that this helps Adobe Reader and I enabled it. But the Plug-in box remains grey and says unknown. So, should I disable it?
    Thanks for any help you can give me.
    Sincerely,
    Debbie

    No, it won't interfere with your Adobe Reader X as it is only the problem with the plug-in. Your Adobe Reader X will still function normally. You should receive a notice from Adobe in your PC to notify you there's an update waiting to be installed, if you have chosen to be notified:
    Open Adobe Reader X > Edit > Preference > Updater and choose whatever option you prefer.
    Or you can also check for update periodically at Help > Check for Updates

  • Make Flash Plug-In for Firefox Remember Privacy Settings for Camera and Mic Access on Local File

    My company is using Flash Player to develop some kiosk-style applications to run on a standalone computer (no network connection). This computer will contain web pages containing Flash content. They will be opened from the local HD with Firefox with the Adobe Flash plug-in (v11.7.700.224). One of the applications accesses the microphone hooked up to the computer. When this application is started, it always asks for permission for "local" to access the microphone and camera. In previous versions of our system, we could click "Remember" if we did it once and that would make it so it wouldn't ask for permissions again (in this case, the Remember option isn't available, and the site settings don't even offer the Privace tab). However, in the previous case, we were running IE with a previous ActiveX Flash version (unfortunately, this approach is no longer available as we have had to switch to Windows 8 and that changes the game with IE and Flash entirely).
    At this point, we have tried to use the Global Settings for "Camera and Microphone Settings by Site..." to enter "Local" as an always allowed site. This does not seem to have any effect. We also tried entering the root directory of the applications in "Trusted Location Settings", but that also seemed to have no effect.
    I'm not sure what has fundamentally changed here. I think there might be some differences in the Plug-In version (compared to ActiveX), but I'm not sure what they might be or how to do the same thing as before.
    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Chris,
    We learned that the Privacy tab (in Settings) can be found under the Flash plug-in for Firefox, but only if Firefox is running under an administrator.
    Unfortunately, we haven't had much luck with the mms.cfg file. The following was used in the mms.cfg file (placed in both the %WINDIR%\SysWow64\Macromed\Flash and %WINDIR%\System32\Macromed\Flash” directories):
    AVHardwareDisable = 0
    AVHardwareEnabledDomain = local
    AVHardwareEnabledDomain = 127.0.0.1
    AVHardwareEnabledDomain = localhost
    AutoUpdateDisable = 1
    The AVHardwareEnabledDomain settings seem to be getting ignored regardless of whether the user is a standard user or an administrator. I also checked to make sure it wasn't just a local problem by going to a website that uses a microphone (http://www.testden.com/accent-reduction/systemcheck.htm). Adding the requested domain to the list (AVHardwareEnabledDomain = train.act360.com) still didn't bypass the allow/deny dialog box.
    We know that the mms.cfg file is being read because setting "AVHardwareDisable = 1" will result in no prompt and that section being greyed out in Global Settings. I saw a post that suggested this setting was required to even make the AVHardwareEnabledDomain work, but it seems to block the local entirely and still brings up the dialog query on the internet site.
    Thanks,
    Torrey

  • Since I updated to firefox 5.0, the windows media player plug in for firefox doesnt work anymore :(

    Ok I recently upgraded to firefox 5.0, and then when I went to a website that uses windows media player to watch videos and news reports, it said I needed to download the windows media player plug in for firefox. And yet I had already done that in the past. So it directs me to the plug in for windows media player 11, I download and install and it doesnt work. Website repeats the same message, you need to download plug in. It was working fine with firefox 4.0! I use the OS Windows 7, 64bit. Any help please?

    Yes I did, at first it identified it as already there, so it gave the option of repairing it, etc, so I uninstalled the Windows Media Player, then Installed it again, and it still doesn't seem to work! I have the same problem with several other plug ins, in the add ons and plug in section of Mozilla tools, I see that say, "incompatible with firefox 5.0" but as days go by those add-ons, that are built by those other websites seem to be repairing it, but I wanted to know for something as important as windows media player plug in, am I the only one getting this problem? :/

  • Basic Questions On List View Plug-in For Lightroom

    I need some basic information about the List View Plug-in for Lightroom:
    HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS:
    I have 40-60 photos per folder. Can List View list that many files on successive pages?
    Most of the time I have 15-30 keywords or keyword phrases listed per picture. If I could widen the column I could see all of them. If the column does not widen, will the keywords not shown still be there to be exported to an Excel column, and then shown?
    The thumbnail pictures on the end of all the summary lines are cool, but can I delete them before exporting to Excel?
      Thank You Very Much for any information about this Plugin,
    THANK YOU,
    Sandy

    Your questions seemed to be asked without actually tried the trial of the plug-in.  I did, just now, and from what I can tell, with only have 20 images to test with since that is the trial limitation:
    1)      The number of rows is fixed, and you can use the slider at the top-right to move from one page to the next.
    2)      The columns do not change width in the plug-in though what you can’t see still gets exported to Excel although I’d expect all the keywords to be in one Excel column, not one column each.
    3)      There are several sizes of thumbnails that can be selected from, including None—this is new compared to the one screen-capture on the plug-in website, so setting None as the thumbnail size  is how you’d prevent thumbnails from going to Excel.  I tried exporting thumbnails and they were all broken images, so maybe it doesn’t actually work, or maybe there is a limitation in the trial mode.

  • Adobe pdf plug in for firefox, 10.1.4 version, does not work but can not update to new version, why?

    Adobe pdf plug in does not work, when I tried to update following message appeared, "Adobe Reader 9.5.1 and lower has been blocked for your protection", how to solve this problem?

    Could you review/adjust your preference for which program opens PDFs? I'm not sure how that drop-list behaves when there are multiple Adobe plugins. You might need to physically remove an old plugin file or two to make sure Firefox is not trying to use the old one.
    * [[Use the Adobe Reader plugin to view or download PDF files]] <br>
    ''Edit: actually this article describe how to use the Options dialog Applications section to review/change the setting: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]]''.
    * C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins (only one want nppdf32.dll here)
    * In regedit.exe, check the following key for the source of obsolete plugins: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins
    Both the file that stores download handling preferences, and the file which registers plugins, can be renamed and Firefox will regenerate them, so those remains options for further actions as well.
