Request phone to be unlocked

A little bit of history here:
I am a foreign exchange student in Bad Oldesloe, Deutschland (this is near Hamburg), and i am with the Rotary club. My sponsoring Rotary club has a SIM card for a phone, but no phone to give me. (the last foreign exchange student took it with her). I have an iPhone 3G, that i brought with me from the US for the camera, the WiFi use, and as a pocket organizer and a dictionary, but i did not buy an international plan for it.
I was wondering if it were possible for Apple to maybe unlock my phone to other non T-Com cellular providers for the duration of my exchange trip (which is like until May\June). I beleive that the SIM is for Vodafone, but im not positive right now. After that, i would be more than happy to relock my iPhone to AT&T once i am in the United States.
I tried to find an email adress to ask Apple directly, but the support site just wants me to either ask you all, or look at questions they have picked out to answer. Thank you, in advance!

I've never heard of Apple unlocking an iphone, unless mandated by law in certain countries ( even then, they are sold as unlocked).
The carrier would be the one to unlock it. I don't think that AT&T would unlock it.

I received instructions from AT&T approving my unlock request and then instructing me to backup my phone and then restore it in ITUNES, at which point the phone would be unlocked.  Is there some way I can tell this was actually successful ?  I completed the procedure but don't see any obvious changes in the various information screens on the phone.

There is usually a delay of a couple of days between your receiving the acknowledgement from the carrier and Apple updating their activation database. I've had similar experiences with 3 other iPhones.

i purchase iphone from saudi arabia (mobily telecom), can i use this mobile in pakistan and other custires. and how i know this phone is carrier unlocked..

It will be locked to mobily telecom, and according to Apple's list of supported carriers and their features (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937) they do not offer unlocking.  Since only the carrier it is locked to can unlock it, you have bought a useless phone.

If Apple's service database says that your iPhone was replaced, then Apple will no longer provide any service for that phone.
First, get a new SIM from your cell carrier and see if that corrects the problem. If it does not, try the usual steps for addressing software problems: restart, reset, restore.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try restoring from a backup and that doesn't fix the problem, try restoring to factory settings and, if the problem goes away, then sync back your apps and content. You'll lose the app data and settings, but if the problem is due to a corrupt cache or settings file, restoring to factory settings should cure it.
If none of that helps, your device may have developed a hardware fault. Again, Apple will provide no service for it, so you will need to pay some independent repair shop to fix your iPhone.

  • My i phone 3gs is unlocked so can i update iso or will it lock back

my i phone 3gs is unlocked so can i update iso or will it **** back. and how do i find out whant network it started on

Is this a legally unlocked iPhone?  If it is not you will have problems upgrading the iOS, and will most likely make the iPhone unworkable.
Is this a US-based iPhone?  If so, the 3gs was only available on the AT&T network.  Verizon iPhones did not come out until the iPhone 4.
If it is legally unlocke you should have no re-locking problems.

  • How to check weather my i phone is officially unlock of not

    Hi everyone
Recently i got iphone 3g , but im not sure how to check weather its officially unlock or not. So that i should upgrade the os with locking it.
    Serial no 5K9098AKY7K
    Model MB496X
    IMEI 01 180900 090330 3
    Plz help me out

Look i bought it from open market in pakistan
Then there is no way to confirm that your phone was officially unlocked. Buying from a non-official source, especially an "open market", means you're at the mercy of the seller as to the accuracy of the phone's status. Based on postings here, most of these phones have been hacked. You'll find out for sure though if you update to 3.1.3.

  • Phone won't unlock

All of a sudden today my phone will not unlock. When I slide my finger across to unlock it is not responsive. I did notice if I slide my finger across to unlock, then click up ringer it unlocks then..but man its weird.
    Anybody else have this problem?
    Thanks
    Pete

    thanks so much.
twice now this forum is 100% right on top of things which is so crucial as an early adopter.
i was having the same unlock issue, and the reset worked like a charm. (i didn't know how to reset the iPhone anyway, so this is good info) but this is so different than my experiences with Palm OS, it's fantastic.
I also had the AT&T Edge - overriding WiFi issue, until yesterday. realized i wasn't using WiFi, and duh now You Tube Videos start playing almost instantly .
This forum right on top of things, fixed in one minute.
    THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN.

The 3GS was not sold as an unlocked phone in the US 2 years ago and AT&T did not offer unlocking then.
You bought a hacked phone. The Apple servers can detect the hack and have now disabled activation. Contact AT&T and find out if you qualify to have it unlocked or buy a new legitimately unlocked phone.

There aren't any supported carriers in Pakistan. Apple hasn't released the iPhone there. The OP is using a grey-market iPhone and hence is pretty much on his/her own as regards getting this phone working with the carrier, unless that carrier can help.
    Regards.

I currently have a verizon iphone 5,but i want to switch to another carrier, the other carrier says the phone must be unlocked.....SO ARE VERIZON IPHONE 5 UNLOCKED?

Not true.  Verizon no longer carrier locks it's phones.  The iphone 5 is the first model with bands for domestic GSM included in its firmware.
Verizon iPhone 5 won’t ever be locked, most likely due to FCC agreements | 9to5Mac

  • Are replacement phones from apple unlocked?

Apple supplied me with new phone  but it is locked - do apple need to unlock please? I have contacted my provider (EE) who I am leaving but they have said as apple gave me a replacement phone they don't need to unlock as they didn't supply and that it should have been supplied unlocked - I have changed providers as had lots of problems with EE and when I put the o2 sim in it says it is locked? Any help would be appreciated. thank you

Usually unlocking the phone is done by the provider, who informs Apple to update their data, that this  certain phone can be unlocked through iTunes.
If your original phone has been unlocked by the carrier before, he has to notify Apple that your replacement should be unlocked as well.
If you contacted Apple Support to replace the phone? I had to replace mine once and got an email from Apple stating the IMEI and serial number of my old phone and the ones from the new replacement, so that I could pass this info on to my carrier, to get the new device unlocked as well.
