Request Sticky - Please mention your OS

Question

Many people post messages about things not working on their Thinkpads, but do not mention what OS they are using.   Since there are 2 common operating systems in use on the T-400 and T-500, it makes it very hard to give specific advice.
Please mention the OS when posting a question.

Are you saying I'm not a reasonable person? Because I do think reasonable people might rebut a technical argument with language that another person might deem a personal attack, and I've carefully explained my reasons for that.
Or are you saying that the new policy should mean that there's a list of banned adjectives? That "reasonable people" are no longer allowed to use words like silly, ridiculous, nonsense, rubbish? Are you suggesting that 'no personal attacks' should actually mean 'no use of language that isn't completely, 100% factual'. Really? I hope you recognise the silliness, ridiculousness and nonsensical nature of such a proposal if that's what you're really saying.

Well, that's just missed the point by a wide mile, too. (Or is that a personal attack on your perspicacity?) The point I was making was: WHAT rules? You can't just say, 'the rule is no personal attacks' if you cannot DEFINE what constitutes a personal attack.

WHAT policy!? DEFINE what the policy actually IS and I might agree with you. What it actually is at the moment is "you may not write something which we can't define in case it upsets people in ways we can't define". That is not a policy but a recipe for arbitrariness.
What I have proposed in its place is a policy which requires no arbitrariness, other than the one inherent in making a judgment about whether a post actually is defamatory, libelous or annoying which is always going to be unavoidable. But instead of trying to legislate what adjectives are acceptable, it simply puts the onus on those who are upset to SAY they are upset. Much fairer, if you ask me, to everyone involved INCLUDING Justin.
