but when somone igonere som fields whil filling the form He can send the form anyway. Is there a solution to prevent that to happen?

Not if they are submitting the file using the built-in "Submit a form" command...

  • Unable to edit the fields in PDF interactive form

    Hi,
    We are in the process of developing an interactive form integrating Web Dynpro ABAP with Adobe forms.
    As of now we are able to send the data to Adobe form from Web Dynpro.
    But we are facing the following problem.
    i) Unable to edit the form data for entering/changing the contents of the fields in PDF document,  which is presented to user with a Web Dynpro application URL.
    We have already unset the 'ReadOnly' property of the interactive UI element.
    We are currently working on ZCI installation with SAP SP08, GUI patch level 20, Adobe Reader version 8.0
    Please advise...
    Thanks,
    Satya.

    No way with just the free Reader. It may be done with Adobe Acrobat.

  • InDesign equivalent of LiveCycle's "Image Field" in PDF form creation?

    LiveCycle has a PDF form field called "Image Field". We add this field to the PDF files we create so that our end users can select and import a JPEG image into their PDF document using Adobe Reader.
    Now we would like to use InDesign to produce the same PDF form files as an alternative to using LiveCycle. Does InDesign have a PDF form field like LiveCycle's "Image Field"? We haven't found it yet.
    In other words, does someone know in InDesign how to create a field in PDF forms which has the same functionality as LiveCycle's "Image Field"? LiveCycle's field works in enabled Adobe Reader files, and permits JPEG format, among others.
    Thank you,
    Kevin
    P.S. We discovered a way to create PDF forms in Adobe Acrobat Pro XI with similar functionality by using JavaScript, but the Acrobat Pro created documents only permit Adobe Reader to import PDF files, not JPEG or other image formats. So Adobe Acrobat Pro XI was not a viable alternative to LiveCycle for creating our PDF files. We'd like to know if we need to rule out InDesign, too.

    It's worth separating out the different responsibilities and products.
    Whether a functionality exists in Reader depends on the Acrobat team. Reader, being free, is limited by design, the aim of the design being to sell copies of Acrobat. Obviously, Reader can't make PDFs or do preflighting. Less obviously, there are a bunch of JavaScript functions that don't work. Sometimes, with Reader enabling, more functions become available. (There are different kinds of Reader enabling, some of which need very expensive extra products).
    Whether a form capability exists at all is largely down to the PDF specification (now an ISO standard) or the XFA specification. Adobe can choose to go beyond the specification but largely choose not to.
    So, the InDesign team can make form fields, not because the Acrobat team approves, but because the way this is done is written down in the PDF Specification. InDesign _could_ choose to make XFA forms, but thank goodness that will never happen.
    So, if you want InDesign forms to do something you first have to ask: can Acrobat forms to this. NOT XFA (LIveCycle forms) which are done by a different team to different rules. So far as I know Acrobat forms cannot do the sort of thing you want; that is, placing arbitrary graphics, but in certain circumstances they can place PDF files.
    Why make the distinction?
    - If Acrobat can make forms that do this, then so can InDesign: it's worth asking the InDesign people to do it.
    - If Adobe limit Adobe Reader, there is no use asking the InDesign team to solve this.
    - If Acrobat can't make forms that do this, then nor can InDesign.

  • Insert a dynamic link form R/3 into image field in PDF.

    Hi gurus ,
                    I am using a wd java application . In that i want to show employee pic in adobe form . I have RFC in place , that gives me URL (ex : http://retep.... ) containing employee pic Context is of type string
    Now i have craeted a image field in PDF . but i am not sure about scripting and how to bind that context to image field , so that based on the url it dynamically displayes employee pic.
    Any suggestions are most welcome .
    Regards

    Hi Abhay,
    If u are getting the URL from the R/3, then set the type of the context variable to the model type rather than making it as a String.
    map the type of the context variable to the type present in the RFC
    Hope this helps u

    Hi. I would like to use the right click menu in WDA to open a pdf-file which is in the mime repository. This should work on field level, so when I switch to another field another pdf should be opened. It is okay if it's rather quick and dirty - thanks for any idea in advance.

  • Highlight existing fields in pdf XI

    Dear Sir / Madam,
    Pl explain to me how to make highlight existing fields in pdf XI .
    for your information pl find the below Prt Sc
    Regards,
    Raghupathi

    Don't worry I lose myself sometimes....
    In the first pic the radio buttons look like Squares because of the "Highlight Existing Fields" is active....but my reset/återställa and send/skicka are still their original artwork...
    In the second pic the "Highlight Existing Fields" is turned off and the radio buttons look like I intended. I was wondering if the buttons were on a separate layer they would retain their artwork?
    I don't know how the send and reset button differ in their function from the radio buttons...
    Just not sure why the send and reset buttons retain their artwork and not the radio buttons....Must be missing something here....lol
    I could live with the red highlighted text feilds as long as my artwork remains intact...

  • PDF vrs. XML   Pre-populate fields in PDF created in Acrobat 7.0

    After converting some interactive/dynamic templates from Acrobat 5.0 to 7.0 we can no longer pre-populate fileds, including the barcode. With the 5.0 version we use FDF to populate the fields including the barcode 3 of 8, but with 7.0 it does not work and we were advise to use XML.
    We've been trying XML but can't make it work. Does any one know where I can get some sample coding?
    Please help!

    Hi Laura:
    Can you elaborate a bit more on "converting some interactive/dynamic templates from Acrobat 5.0 to 7.0" and "pre-populate"?
    If you were converting the template in Adobe LiveCycle Designer (comes with Acrobat Professional), then FDF import wouldn't work.
    However, if you are executing the same action via Acrobat then FDF and xFDF import/export should still work.
    Also, for designer based forms, you also have the option of merging the data into the PDF form using Adobe LiveCycle Forms (A server based product).
    Another server based solution is to Reader Extend your PDF form to allow local import/export of data using Adobe Reader.
    It really depends on what you want to do.
    So options are this:
    If your form is a Designer based forms:
    - Manually Import Data (in XML) into PDF Form using Acrobat Professional
    - Manually Import Data (in XML) into PDF Form* (Reader extended PDF form) using Adobe Reader
    - Merge Data Programmatically (in XML) into PDF Form using Adobe LiveCycle Forms
    If your form is an AcroForm (acrobat based form)
    - Programmatically merge FDF data into PDF Form using the FDF toolkit/Acrobat SDK
    - Manually Import Data in FDF/xFDF into PDF Form using Acrobat Professional.

  • Is there any api to modify the form field in PDF?

    Hi,
    Our client need we provide the editable PDF, i.e. some form fields in the PDF report can be edit. Now we created the PDF template and merged it with the XML data definition in Jdeveloper, but when we get the final PDF report, we found that the PDF form field property is changed to "Read-Only" automatically. We make sure that in PDF template the form field is not "Read-Only", something happened when we merging the XML data and the PDF template.
    Now we wonder if there is any API can help us to modify the PDF form field property, after we merge the XML data and PDF template, we can use it to change the form fields to editable, not "Read-Only".

    Hi,
    What I need is to modify some form fields' property, I explore some web and found before I create the PDF file, I can set the security of the PDF:
    Properties prop = new Properties();
    prop.put("pdf-security","true");
    prop.put("pdf-open-password","welcome");
    So I wonder if there is one property related to the PDF form field.
    Thank you.

  • Populate fields in PDF file

    I have a requirement to develop a function module that will be called in a background process.  This function module needs to read in a PDF file containing javascript (always the same file), populate specific fields in that form (with data passed into the function module), and write out the new version of that file.  Any help in figuring out how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

    >If I understand correctly you propose something like this
    Something like, yes.
    >
    >Acrobat.exe /A "zoom=100" "xml=C:\example.xml" ....
    Certainly, neither will work. /A is followed by a single quoted
    string. There must be some separator, but I don't know what it needs
    to be (as I was alluding to in my first reply).
    To see if there is any hope, just try without the zoom= completely. In
    any case you can set the zoom in the document properties.

  • Retreiving and setting fields from pdf

    Hi Everyone,
    I hope that you may be able to help. I'm working on putting together an extention to my program to allow users to load a pdf file from a database, and also save what the user has entered into the pdf, into a database. I started out using the ActiveView sample app and have gotten it to load a seleted pdf into my app. I am currently trying to get the fields from the pdf. I am using the FormsAutomation sample as a reference. Here is some code :
    This funtion is used to open the pdf (just like in the ActiveView sample)
        Public Sub OpenChartFile(ByRef Filename As String, PatientId As String, ChartId As Integer, isNew As Boolean )
            Dim ok As Integer
            Dim fIndex As Short
            ' change mousepointer to an hourglass
            System.Windows.Forms.Cursor.Current = System.Windows.Forms.Cursors.WaitCursor
            ' change form's caption and display new text
            fIndex = FindFreeIndex()
            Document(fIndex) = New frmPDFView
            Document(fIndex).PatientId = PatientId
            Document(fIndex).ChartFileId = ChartId
            Document(fIndex).ChartFileName = Filename
            Document(fIndex).isNew = isNew
            Document(fIndex).Tag = fIndex
            Document(fIndex).Show()
            Document(fIndex).Text = UCase(Filename)
            Document(fIndex).MdiParent = gShell
            ' open the selected file
            AcroExchAVDoc(fIndex) = CreateObject("AcroExch.AVDoc")
            ok = AcroExchAVDoc(fIndex).OpenInWindowEx(Filename, Document(fIndex).Handle.ToInt32, AV_DOC_VIEW, True, 0, PDUseBookmarks, AVZoomFitWidth, 0, 0, 0)
            ' See IAC.bas and the Acrobat Viewer IAC Overview for information on the
            ' OpenInWindowEx open modes
            If Not ok Then
                MsgBox("Can't open file: " + Filename)
                Document(fIndex).Close()
                System.Windows.Forms.Cursor.Current = System.Windows.Forms.Cursors.Default
                Exit Sub
            End If
            FState(fIndex).Dirty = False
            Document(fIndex).Show()
            Document(fIndex).FillChart() 'Used to fill the pdf from the DB
            ' reset mouse pointer
            System.Windows.Forms.Cursor.Current = System.Windows.Forms.Cursors.Default
        End Sub
    Here is were I try and get the fields which is located in the PDFView form
        Public Sub FillChart()
            If Not pisNew then
                formApp = CreateObject("AFormAut.App")
                acroForm = formApp.Fields  '<-----******Errors here, "No document is currently open in the Acrobat Viewer"
                FillChartData( pPatientId,acroForm,pChartFileId, Me.tag )
            End If
        End Sub
    Here is where I plan to fill the pdf file (Located in a module file): I
    Public Sub FillChartData(PatientId As string, acroForm As AFORMAUTLib.Fields, ChartFileId As Integer, FormIndex As integer )
        Dim field As AFORMAUTLib.Field
    Try
        field = acroForm.Item("PatientName")
    Catch ex As Exception
        MsgBox(ex.Message, MsgBoxStyle.Critical, "ModChartSupport.FillChartData")
    End Try
    End Sub
    Is it possible to get the list of fields in the current setup using the ActiveView forms? If so, what am I missing? In the FormAutomation sample it seems to get the fields this way:
            avDoc = CreateObject("AcroExch.AVDoc")
            Dim file As String = System.Windows.Forms.Application.StartupPath & "\..\..\..\..\TestFiles\FormsAutomation.pdf"
            bOK = avDoc.Open(file, "Forms Automation Demo")
            'If everything was OK opening the PDF, we now instantiate the Forms Automation object.
            If (bOK) Then
                formApp = CreateObject("AFormAut.App")
                acroForm = formApp.Fields
            Else
                System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ReleaseComObject(avDoc)
                avDoc = Nothing
                MsgBox("Failed to open PDF Document. Aborting...")
                End
            End If
    The OpenChartFile function has already created the avDoc object for the form, so I think I'm alright there. What am I missing? Thanks for any help you can provide.

    So let's say you have the following fields in your file:
    Incident_Report
    ClientsName
    Date
    You can then add this code to the file's WillSave action (under Tools - JavaScript - Set Document Actions):
    var newFileName = this.getField("Incident_Report").valueAsString + "_" + this.getField("ClientsName").valueAsString + "_" + this.getField("Date").valueAsString + ".pdf";
    app.response("Please copy the text below and use it as the new file-name:","", newFileName)
    Of course, you can adjust the message to the user, and even the format of the file-name, although I've used the format you specified.

  • Fields in PDF form are blank: Another Preview question...

    So I get that filling out a form in Preview can create a problem where the end user cannot see the info in those fields unless they click on them.  But I have some additional questions:
    1. Is just viewing a PDF in Preview without making any changes enough to cause this problem?
    2. Is it only Windows users reporting this problem or are Mac users having it as well (when trying to view it in Acrobat or Reader)?
    Here's why I ask:  We created this form but send it out to clients to fill in and return.  I sometimes view these returned forms in Preview because the info loads faster than it does in Acrobat.   No issues there.  But with one form in particular that we received today, anyone trying to subsequently open the form in Acrobat is having a problem.  It seems to be just this form that is causing the problem.  I'm not sure what the client used to fill it out, but they sent back other forms that don't seem to be a problem, so it seems unlikely this one would have been filled out using a different tool from the others.
    Also it appears that Mac users AND Windows users are having issues seeing the fields in this form properly filled out.  Heretofore, I've only read of Windows users having this problem.
    Any insight would be appreciated -- thanks!

    A form has to be saved in Preview in order for it to be corrupted, not merely opened. What OS is used when opening a corrupted PDF in Reader/Acrobat doesn't matter.

  • Import Data/Populate fields in pdf from Excel

    I'm not sure if I am using the correct terms, but I would like to set up text fields in a pdf that can import data from specific fields in an excel file.  I found the import data form in the properties of the text field, but it will only allow me to select pdf files.  Is it possible to import data an excel file to a text field?  I would like to do the following
    1. create a excel table that includes kids last name, first name, and Grades (Q1, Q2, E1, S1 etc...)
    2. I have a pdf form that already has text fields that correspond to the fields mentioned above.
    3. Set up the pdf to import the data and generate a page for each student.
    I specifically mentioned excel because everyone at my school has excel.  However, it would also work if I could design another pdf with a table that I could import data from.

    Something like this?
    // Import the first row of data from "myData.txt".
    this.importTextData("/c/desktop/myData.txt", 0)
    if (typeof cnt == "undefined") cnt = 0;
    this.importTextData("/c/desktop/textdata.txt", cnt++ % 4)
    // Specify the name of the template
    var template_name = "Student Information Sheet";
    // Get a reference to the template
    var t = getTemplate(template_name);
    // Add a new page based on the template
    if (t !== null) {
        t.spawn({
        nPage: numPages,      // Add the new page to end of document
        bOverlay: false,      // Create a new page, not an overlay
        bRename: true         // Rename the fields
    } else {
       app.alert("The template named \'" + template_name + " does not exist in this document.", 1);
    But how would I tell the new page to take the second row from the chart, and will I have to click the button for each one of the fields in the data?
