Require Password Every Login

Hi:
We are running OSX Server 10.3.4 in a facility (for various reasons) which does not require passwords on each workstation. I would like to require each user to enter their Username and Password every time they login to the server rather than allow then to store it in a local keychain so that multiple users at each workstation cannot access each others server data. I seem to recall this was a simple step in ASIP (there was a preference to "allow password to be stored in keychain") but I'll be darned if I can find an equivalent is OSX server.
This is a standalone server running Open Directory locally and is not connected to a network password server. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

This is not governed server-side, unless you setup managed users with network home directories.
If workstations have local user accounts & home folders, you'll need to change the password for the "login" keychain - but they could just opt to create another keychain.

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.

  • IChat AV 5.0.3 requires password every time I launch the program

Does anyone know why this is happening? After the recent 10.6.4 update, every time I launch iChat a dialog box pops up with my MobileMe account name, which has a check box next to it, and an input field below it which prompts me to type in my MobileMe password. It never did that before. I only use 1 account in iChat. Does anyone know what's causing this to pop up every time I launch iChat?

    Hi,
The Password is saved in the Keychain and called by iChat when needed.
You can decide not to enter the password and iChat will ask each time it is needed (Although it sounds like you did not set it up this way).
Go to the Application/Utilities folder and open Keychain Access.
Open any Padlocks required to read the details.
Select the Application part in the lower left section.
Find your @Me.com name in the list.
Double click this to open the info panel.
    First check the Access tab
It may list "All/Any" apps or it may be set to Specific apps.
It it is set to be the specific option then is iChat Listed.
Next retrun to the left hand tab and then tick the Show Password Box
This will bring up a dialogue requiring your Password and show you several Buttons.
Enter the password and Click Allow Once.
The Info panel should now show you the password.
If it is Blank enter it and Save.
If it is "wrong" then change it and Save.
Next you should check if you "Own" and have permissions to write too the Keychain.
Open Your Home Folder (Little House icon) then Library and the Keychain folder in there.
Highlight the login.keychain with a single click
Do a "Get Info" (File Menu > Get Info or the keystrokes listed)
In this panel at the bottom is a tab to show who owns the File and it will also list permission as to Read and Write access.
You should own it and it should have Read and Write access.

  • Wifi connection drops & requires password every time

Hi, I have a brand new macbook pro and installed Lion on it the day I got it. I am new to macs so I'm having difficulties figuring this problem out myself since I'm not familiar with settings.
Every time I start my computer up or shut it and come back to it, I am told to connect to a wireless network. It does not remember my preferred network or its password. I enter in the info and press "remember password" and then in a few seconds, it tells me "connection failed". However, I am connected, so I just press cancel and everything is fine. Until the next time it makes me repeat all over again. It's a little frustrating. It's a quick process but annoying to have to do it again and again.
If I need to provide more information please let me know, and thanks in advance for your reply!

  • Modem HUAWEI MODEL E226 -  Require password every time i try to connect

    I have a modem huawei e226.
i use MobileConnect to connect internet.
Every time the connection failed i have do type again my password.
I dont want to do that... any one know how to configure this aplicaton to not ask for password any more?

I also use the same type of Modem ~ the only time I had to put my admin password in was when first starting the ISPs software after installing it. Never had to enter it again. (Vodafone NZ)
There is no password in my Keychain for the modem.
I use Internet connect unless I have to reset the type of network used because of conflict. I then use the Vodafone software, then internet connect.
I'd check your ISPs software options or give them a call.
    Best.

  • HT204306 starbucks app requires username/password every time. How can I tell my phone to remember my u/p?

Starbucks app requires username / password every time it is invoked.
Is there some way to tell the app to remember me?

    Meg,
    passcode was where you suggested.
But it says that passcode is to be invoked each time you invoke the starbucks app.
I do not wish to create another step. I wish to remove one (or two).
But thank you for calling that to my attention. I did not know it was there.

  • Mac user prompted for password for Mac server shares at every login

I have a client that uses Mac machines.  The server is also Mac server.
The machines are not in a domain/realm, so each machine has its own user database including the server.
The user connects to a share on the server, where she is set up with the same user name and password as on her local Mac for convenience.
When you connect to the share the first time, you are prompted to provide the credentials, and you can select to save this password in Keychain.  We selected YES, remember this password in my Keychain.
However, at every login, she has to provide credentials to connect to the share again.
Any ideas why keychain is not remembering this login so that she can re-connect to the share (it is set as a Login Item) seamlessly?
    Thank you,
    Sandra

Unix shortnames can be viewed/set on the client computers by opening system preferences, going to users & groups, Right-Clicking on a user, and opening the "Advanced Options..." pane.  In the field that says "Account Name:" is the UNIX shortname that the system assigned o that user when their account was originally created.
DO NOT CHANGE THE USER'S SHORTNAME HERE.  All kinds of bad things will happen.  Once it is established (as your original post suggests), you don't want to change it.
What you can do is on your server, in the users & groups sharing preferences, establish server  accounts for your users that have identical shortnames to the ones they already have assigned on their individual macs.

  • Why do I have to re-enter my wireless password every time My wireless goes down? Not required on my iphone.

Why do I have to re-enter my wireless password every time my wireless go down. This is not required with my iPhone.

    Hello, try this...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

  • Must enter iCloud Password at every login

Since migrating to new Mac mini from MBP, I am now asked to enter my iCloud Password at every login or restart (see image). However, when entering my password, I get an endless loop of the same dialog box. How do I stop this from happening?

Thank you for the solution that worked for me. I signed out completely from iCloud, then signed back in and the dialog boxes went away.
I suspect during the migration process not all iCloud associations were re-connected, but who knows?
    Thanks again!

  • Require encrypted disk password before login

    Hi,
I encrypted my machines' disk with diskutil:
    diskutil cs encryptVolume ...
Now, when I start up my machine I firt need to enter the disk password, then I can select a user and enter the user password. So far, everything id fine. The problem is that together with the option to enter the disk password I see one of the accounts configured on the machine and have the option to enter that user's password and login with that user right away *without* entering the disk password. How can I disable that (I want to force all users to first enter the disk password)?

    Back up all data.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
sudo fdesetup list | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. Confirm. You don't need to post the warning. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
A TextEdit window will open. Post the contents of that window, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting, but don’t remove the context.

  • Disable password at login

I've never had to put in my password on my Mac when it starts up. For some reason it has started asking for my password every time I start up my computer. Must have been in the latest update or something. I know my password I just find it annoying to have to put it in every time.
I've been in settings and tried of figure out how to disable it but without any luck.
The closest I've gotten is in Preferences - Users & Groups - Login Options. When I get there the Automatic login is grayed out so I can't change it.. It says on the left that the current user is Admin (and my name in there too) so it's not like I'm logged in as a guest or anything. The lock at the button left is unlocked too so that shouldn't be in issue.
Anyone know how to get the Automatic login working?
    Thank you
    P.S. Currently using Yosemite 10.10.3

    Hey Soffan73,
I understand that you are experiencing some difficulty with login options in Yosemite on your computer. I have an article for you that can help point you toward the option you are looking for on your computer, and it is found below:
OS X Yosemite: Require a password after waking your Mac
    https://support.apple.com/kb/PH18669
You will want to deselect the “Require password… after sleep or screen saver begins” option, and if you do not wish to enter your password when starting up your computer, then you will want to revisit the setting you have mentioned in Users & Groups, and turn Automatic Login on for your desired user account.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,
    Braden

Yes the phone belongs to me. It was purchased from United Kingdom Vodafone to West Africa, i had to factory unlock to use any sim in it. so it belongs to me. I did the activation myself, now after updating my iphone to the latest update, it required a user id and password to activate the phone, but anytime i enter the details, it tells me the user Id is not correct but the password is correct..

  • Why do my firewalls only use the domain username and password for login and enable passwords, not a different enable password like my switches do? The RADIUS config looks the same...

    Issue:
Cisco firewalls require only one level of password i.e. the domain username and password are used for both logging in as well as reaching global configuration mode.
    Background:
We have multiple Cisco network devices set up which authenticate to our Windows domain controller using NPS (Windows 2008 R2). The switches we have set up all function exactly as we would hope as they require your domain username and password to login to the device. They then require a separate password when you use the enable command, this is stored in Active Directory:
    Switches:
    Username:domain-username
    Password:domain-password
    SWITCH>enable
    Password:enable-password-in-Active-Directory
    SWITCH#
    Firewalls (as they currently are):
    Username:domain-username
    Password:domain-password
    FIREWALL>enable
    Password:domain-password
    FIREWALL #
With the firewalls however, they require your domain username and password first, and then your domain password again when using the enable command. I want the firewalls to use the enable level password that the switches currently use instead of the domain password again. The current configuration look like the following:
    Current switch configuration:
    aaa new-model
aaa authentication login default group radius local
aaa authentication enable default group radius enable
aaa authorization exec default group radius local
    aaa session-id common
    radius-server host 192.168.0.1 auth-port 1645 acct-port 1646
    radius-server source-ports 1645-1646
    radius-server key 7 1234abcd
    Current firewall configuration:
    aaa-server DC01 protocol radius
    aaa-server DC01 (outside) host 192.168.0.1
aaa authentication ssh console DC01 LOCAL
aaa authentication enable console DC01 LOCAL
    key 1234abcd
Any help would be great, thanks!

Cisco ASA works that way by design. You could remove "aaa authentication enable" and then you could use the "enable password" command to set your enable password.
But if you do that, then ASA would change your username to "enable_15". That would break Authorization and Accounting if you're using them. Let me clarify with an example
    Firewalls :
    Username:domain-username
    Password:domain-password
    FIREWALL>show curpriv
    Username : domain-username
    Current privilege level : 1
    Current Mode/s : P_UNPR
    FIREWALL>enable
    Password:enable-password-from-running-config
    FIREWALL #show curpriv
    Username : enable_15
    Current privilege level : 15
    Current Mode/s : P_PRIV
If you're using Authorization and Accounting it's recommended to stick with your current behavior.

  • How to force iOS to ask for S/MIME private key password every time?

Hi, I am using S/MIME signing and encryption on my iOS devices and I am very surprised that the system does not require password for encrypting, decrypting or signing a message when using my cell phone. Everyone with access to it (be it a thief who saw my unlock code or somebody I know personally) will be able to send/read all encrypted messages. That is a deal breaker for me and I hope I am not the only one.
So the question is: I need to be asked for a password everytime I (a) read encrypted message, (b) send a signed message or (c) send an encrypted message.
    How can I do that?
I imported my key via iPhone configuration utility, but I was unable to find an option for that.

By revealing your unlock code your device is already compromised. Just like revealing your computers login password. Once the computer is compromised, any number of things can be done which render the certificate password useless. Keyloggers can be installed, the kernel can be patched to steal DPAPI keys, etc. Real software companies like Apple and Microsoft don't entertain security through obscurity.
