Require Password Setting problem

Why does my require password setting always revert back to 5 seconds?
System Preferences>Security & Privacy

Hi,
I tested on my computer that is running Windows 8, but I havenot encountered the same issue.  Could you please test the following thing.
1. Disable Require Password after wake up in Power Options.
2. Manually make the computer into Sleep Mode by the Power options in Charm bar rahter than close the lid.
3. Wake up the computer and check whether the issue persists.

  • 10.8.5 iMac Won't wake from sleep/screen saver with require password set

I have several iMacs 2009/2010/2011 that are set to require a password when waking from sleep just this week all of them started freezing when this happened and will not start back up if restarted - they go pasgt the Apple Logo w Spinning gear to the Apple Log & Mouse icon - but don't make it to the login screen
The only way to get past it is to safe boot and delete the loginwindow.plists and loginitem.plists - and in one case go in in target mode and delete it
They are all up to date - the last updates I did were the 10.8.5 Supplemental Last week - and ARD Client 3.7.1 - Monday.
None of them have done again this since I deleted the plists
Has anyone else run into this? If so does anyone know if it is related to the updates or do I need to keep digging?
    Thanks
    Robbie G

I am having this problem still, even after updating with the latest combo. I find that my Macbook Pro (using 10.8.5) will show the beach ball spinning with a black screen. I have to restart the laptop in order to clear this problem. Very annoying since this can happen two or three times a day.
You mention 'plists'. What are they? And if you delete them, are they recreated automatically upon restart?

  • Require password settings on mobile devices remediation failed

    Hello,
I'm having an issue with 2012R2 Cfg Mgr and Intune.
    I have a managed Android 4.1 device.
I'm trying to enforce "Require password setting on mobile devices" with a baseline config.
Config Manager is reporting on my device "Remediation failed" 0x87D1FDE8.
Is there anything I've done incorrectly? Perhaps not supported?
    Cheers.

I've got password policy to apply just fine on android, verify that you actually waited long enough for the device to process policy - see
this guide explaining the steps i took. Initially you might see the Remediation Failed message but wait at least a day to see how that pans out, alternatively change your CB deployment to just monitor instead of remediate and troubleshoot it that way

  • New iMac wakes from sleep sluggishly and requires password despite preference setting

My new iMac (Core i7) wakes from sleep very sluggishly and it requires a password despite the fact that I have de-selected this option in Preferences.
I have a new iMac.  I used Migration Assistant to move everything from my older Mac Pro, which was running Lion.  Under the Secucrity settings in Preferences, I de-selected "Require Password."
I use a bluetooth mouse and wireless keyboard.  Typically I click the mouse to wake up my Mac.  The screen comes to life and the cursor moves with the mouse, but...how can I explain this?  When I move the mouse in this situation, the cursor paints a gray swath over the desktop screen.  It looks like I am using a paint program.
After clicking the mouse repeatedly the computer becomes responsive and the password entry screen appears--most of the time.  I have tried to set it up so a password is not required, but usually I get this screen.  SOMETIMES, it behaves correctly--say one-fourth of the time.
Another problem...  When I shut the iMac off and then back on, it does not always link to my Apple bluetooth mouse.  I have to connect a USB mouse and re-link the wireless mouse.
I wonder if this is a software/OS issue.  My old Mac Pro had similar wake-up issues, and I wonder if Migration Assistant transferred them to my new machine.
Your thoughts and great ideas are appreciated.

I too am having trouble with my bluetooth mouse after upgrading to 10.7.2 and the associated iOS 5 upgrades.  The mouse keeps losing its connection.  I've turned bluetooth off, trashed the preferences, rebooted and repaired both the keyboard and mouse but the mouse keeping dropping out.  Keyboard seems ok.  Anyone have any ideas?

  • How can I require a password to change the "Require password after sleep or screen saver begins" setting

My son has a habit of disabling the "Require password after sleep or screen saver begins" setting whenever my wife lets him play a game on her account.  I notice every other setting on the "Security & Privacy -> General" tab is protected by the lock on the lower left corner.  I've never understood why this one is not.  Is there any way that I can get that setting to also be controlled by the lock?

Because that setting is specific to the account currently logged in and doesn't potentially affect any others or the system itself, which is the level in general at which administrator or root access is required.

  • Oracle 8i us7ascii character set problem - help required urgent.

    Hi frnds,
I have a oracle 8i database server installed on sun solaris os. The database character set is us7ascii. In one of the tables TIFF images are stored in a long column. I m trying to fetch these images using oracle 9i client and visual basic(oracle ODBC drivers). But i m unable to do so. I can not fetch special characters.
Is it because of the character set problem? but when i run my code on the server itself, i m able to fetch the images. I tried to fetch the images using oracle 8 i client on windows XP machine but could not do so. Are there any special settings that i have to do on the client side?

Indeed, it's an ODBC issue. Read this statement from Oracle:
From ODBC 8.1.7.2.0 drivers onwards it's NOT possible any more to
"disable" Characterset conversion by specifying for the NLS_LANG
the same characterset as the database characterset. There is now
ALWAYS a check to see if a codepoint is valid for that characterset.
Typically you will encounter problems if you upgrade an environment
that has NO NLS_LANG set on the client (or US7ASCII) and the database
was also US7ASCII. This incorrect setup allowed you to store characters
like èçàé in an US7ASCII database, with the new 8i drivers this is not possible
    any more.
Basic problem is the 'wrong' characterset US7ASCII in the database. As long as no characterset conversion happens (that's the case on the unix server), special characters are no problem.

  • System No Longer Requires Password to Wake from Sleep

Greetings all! My Mini has recently stopped asking me to supply a password when waking it from sleep. It goes into sleep with no problem, complete with the pulsing white LED. But when I wake the system (using either the keyboard or the power button), the system just wakes up without requesting authentication. In addition, if I leave the system idle for 15 or 20 minutes, the screen saver kicks in. Trouble is, settings in both "Energy Saver" and "Desktop & Screen Saver" are set to never sleep the display. (And it doesn't require a password to wake the display there either.)
I've tried unchecking and rechecking the "Require password..." option in "Security", I've tried rebooting, I've tried repairing priveleges. Nothing works. I do have a KVM switch hooked up to the system, but I don't think that's the culprit, as the system has required a password in the past with the KVM switch connected. In addition, I've had this problem occasionally in the past, and it usually comes up after I've installed a system update from Apple. In the past, it's just seemed to go away on its own, but I'd obviously like to fix it myself instead of letting it work itself out.
Anyone have any suggestions on perhaps trashing certain prefs files or anything else? Thanks!

    Mac Mini 1.42GHz Mac OS X (10.4.7)

It's the same here on a recently bought MacBook Pro. Searching this forum produced quite a lot threads about this topic. But none of the solutions posted did work on my machine.
I'd like to file a formal bug report with Apple, but I did not find any bug tracking system. Is the feedback program the only way to let Apple know there is a problem?? I'd prefer if I got some feedback on my problem report...

  • Require password to wake from sleep is broken

Recently, the security setting "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver" stopped working for me. Seems like it was around 10.4.6.
Now, whenever my mac is asleep or in SS, just moving the mouse gets me back to log in.
    I have automatic login disabled.
I suspect that something is running on the mac that is making the mechanism think that the machine is still active or something, but I don't know how to go about figuring that out.

I tto am having seeing this problem again just now, and agree that the culprit must be some dark process...
I have seen this behaviour come and go in the past, tried all the suggested 'fixes', and have to say that I see no correlation between the two.
I was obliged to perform a 'clean system install' several days ago (never before have I needed to do that on OS X - the machine was and is on 10.4.8) - only this problem arrived after that. My Powerbook Ti-DVI has, both before and since the OS re-installation, had extraordinary difficulty with restarts, let alone sleep, and MirrorAgent is most often the cause (iDisk synchronisation)...
cannot say whether that might be related.

  • Can't find "Require Password" checkbox when creating network on MBP

I'm trying to create a network as I've often done on a MacBook Pro.
When I bring up the window to create the network, there is no "Require Password" checkbox.
Does anyone know how to require a password please? I'm trying to create a little network for just my MBP, AppleTV and iPhone so that I run presentations via Airplay in a conference room, and I don't want everyone in the room logging onto my Mac. Thanks in advance.
    MBP Retina 13" late 2013. Yosemite 10.10.2

OK I've managed to solve this problem but there's no rhyme or reason why what I did had any effect. I dug out the old printer and noticed that it was getting a 10.x IP address whereas the 710 was getting a 168.x IP address... that should have been my first clue, but I wasn't thinking. Nevertheless, I had no idea why it was getting that sort of IP address.
So, I went through the manual set up (again) on the printer, and instead of searching for the SSID, I typed it in manually. Now it gets a 10.x IP address and it's showing up on my network.
In the end, there is something screwy with the way the network software on the printer is handling its network search feature. Definitely an Epson thing, not Apple.

  • Fine-Grained Password Policy problem

    Hi All,
I'm testing a Fine-Grained Password Policy for a group of users.
I created a test PSO using ASDI Edit and applied the PSO to a global security group.
Test user has been added to this group.
The PSO settings include "Enforce password history: 5"
The user has changed the password.
After 24h when I logged in as the user and changed the password - for example: Password1.
After another 24 hours I changed the password to Password2.
One day later I've been asked to change the password again.
In theory I shouldn't be able to use any of the 5 previous passwords (password history = 5) but when I entered Password1 it was accepted.
Do you know where can be the problem ?
System info: Windows Server 2008 R2 (forest/domain level is also 2008)
    Regards,
    Marcin

This is very interesting. I don't have any lab to repro though... So I can't look at it closer.
From an LDAP perspective, when you change your password on AD, you have to comply with the password history policy. This requirement is send by the server to the client thanks to the supported control: LDAP_SERVER_POLICY_HINTS_OID that you can see just by
looking at the RootDSE of one of your DC (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc223320.aspx Used with an LDAP operation to enforce password history policies during password set). I am
aware of issues with AD-LDS not honoring it, but not AD... I am not sure if the situation described with FIM here matches your issue:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2443871 in this article:
"The "Enforce password history" and "Minimum password age" Group Policy settings do not work when you reset the password for a Windows Server 2008 R2-based or a Windows Server 2008-based computer."
But it would mean that it also affects users not having a FGGP (because this isn't specific to FGGP), ad the minimum password age as well. If you have a chance to try this in a lab, let us now... In the mean time, if you can share logs or code from your
app? Like the section that does the password change?

  • "Require password after screen saver begins" & "Start Screen Saver"

    Hello All,
Can someone tell me what the UNIX command strings are to set 1) "Require password after screen saver begins" on, 2) "Start Screen Saver" to 15 minutes and (3) "Disable remote control infrared receiver" via ARD? I have over 100 clients and it would be nice to issue the commands instead of walking up to each Mac spread all over the campus. Most of the clients are running 3.3.1. Thanks!

    Hello, Mike
There may be a command and the UNIX forums would be the place to really find the answer.
The problem is that each User has their own Screen Saver and Security settings. They are not global settings. If ARD is set up to access all of the other systems, then you can do it right from your office and flag which ones have been configured with the new settings with labels.

  • Screensaver no longer requires password to unlock

since my Tiger update and subsequent software updates, i'm having problems getting the screensaver to require my password to deactivate. the permissions setting "Require password to wake thiws computer from sleep or screen saver" IS checked and activation of the screensaver via a hot corner works as it should, but when I nudge the mouse to bring up the password panel, it just immediately deactivates the screensaver.

This worked for me. I may have an extra step in here but try them all and see if it works for you.
    1) Go into the Account preferences and change your password.
    2) Log out
    3) Go back into Accounts and change your password back to what it was.
    4) Open the Security panel and see if the "Require password..." checkbox is unchecked. It was for me.
    5) Check that box again and everything should work.
    Hope this helps.

  • Require password 4 accounts in iChat 4.0.9?

Would love to know if I can require a password when switching to my AIM account while in iChat 4.0.9. I have looked all through AIM online as well as iChat and can't seem to figure it out.
    Thanks!!!!

    Hi,
I should have perhaps pointed out that you need to remove the Password in Chat as well in the one account that you want the Password to be asked for.
Your Specs say 10.5.8 so you should have iChat 4.0.8 (Or 4.0.9 if you have done some of the Security Updates).
You have posted in iChat 2 and Earlier and the process would be slightly different there due to the way iChat swaps Accounts. (you could only have one Buddy List active at once).
In iChat 4.x you can have several Accounts Listed in iChat menu > Preferences > Accounts and some can have Passwords Set and other not.
Another thing you can do is set the Access tab in the Keychain info panel to not allow iChat to use it. This may cause you more problems accessing it yourself though but may be useful if your children have their Own Mac User Account and you could set it in their Keychain.
The Keychain holds each set of User Name and Password separately so you should be able to set th Password info differently so that the @mac.com account/screen Name logs in and the AIM one asks.

  • Office 2013 and SharePoint 2013 server properties - The required term set is not available.

    Hi,
After creating new document from ribbon with the new document function on any template the managed metadata based server properties cannot be selected and properties boxes are grayed out. Mouse over displays "The Required term set is not available".
Works fine when using it form resource (SharePoint) domain both with user domain and resource domain accounts.
There is a two-way trust btw domains.
    SPNs are done for AppPools.
AppPool accounts have delegations and are set to impersonate with GPO.
SharePoint Web Application is on kerberos authentication.
There is no difference when sites are using user or resource domain AppPool accounts.
The WFE and SQL Server have computer delegations.
Server env: Windows Server 2008 R2 with all updates, SQL Server 2008 R2 with all updates, on-prem SharePoint Server 2013 with no CU.
User env: Windows 7 ENT, IE10 and Office 2013 with all updates.
There is no internet connection and internet connection is not possible. The internet connection is cheated with two DNS A record setting for
www.msftncsi.com and dns.msftncsi.com. Also registry changes "ActiveDnsProbeContent" ip- address for Win7 is done via GPO to private IP. This is done because otherwise check-in/check-out does not work.
