  • Which listener should be used in a standalone grid infrastructure env?

    gurus:
I installed a 11.2.0.2 standalone grid infrastructure on a linux box and created a database manually. I then used netca to create my listener which created 2 listener files:
    a. under my DB home:
    aml6:/u00/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/network/admin > cat listener.ora
    # listener.ora Network Configuration File: /u00/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/network/admin/listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    LISTENER_ETL =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = aml6.lynk.lynksystems.com)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
    ADR_BASE_LISTENER_ETL = /u00/app/oracle
    b. under my grid home:
    aml6:/u00/app/11.2.0/grid/network/admin > cat listener.ora
LISTENER_ETL=(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=IPC)(KEY=LISTENER_ETL)))) # line added by Agent
ENABLE_GLOBAL_DYNAMIC_ENDPOINT_LISTENER_ETL=ON # line added by Agent
I observed that the one under my DB home was the one that really got used when I tried to logon to a database.
    Here are my questions:
    1. what is the use for the listener under my DB home?
    2. what is the use for the listener under my grid home?
    3. the grid infrastructure document says that the default home for listener and tnsnames files are grid home, however, it seemed that I have to use the listener under my db home directory.
    4. which listener is the ASM instance use?
Thanks a lot for your help.

    Thanks Levi and Sebastian.
We have separate listeners in DB homes for Stand Alone grids.
Cluster Grids have got the listeners (SCAN..etc) running out of Grid Home. Still, we have exceptions for the Cluster grid for EBS databases where SCAN is not supported yet and still have a separate listeners for the databases.
This OTN doc also describes a listener in the DB home: http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/db/11g/r2/prod/install/gridinstss/gridinstss.htm
    Hi Raj,
In this OBE, the author explains why he is setting a new Listener for ASM.
To Configure EM Database Control to manage ASM, perform the following steps:
To manage the ASM instance in Enterprise Manager Database Control. you must configure the ASM Instance as a target.
When you configure the ASM target, you must provide the port for the ASM listener.
The Grid Infrastructure installs a listener by default on port 1521, and configures the ASM instance to use this listener.
In this tutorial the database is already installed and has a listener configured on port 1521, the Grid Infrastructure places a listener on port 1522 and the ASM instance is registered with the grid listener. Before Install Grid Infrastructure he already had a database running with the Listener configured and running.
To ensure that the service of ASM will be registered in the Listener of same release he set a new Listener using GUI HOME.
This procedure is correct because the Grid Infrastructure (ASM) is the highest release (So, it's necessary configure Listener in same release), to not use a Listener with prior to release of the Grid Infrastructure(ASM) he created new Listener.
He also could deconfigure the Listener of Oracle Home (database) and configure in the GUI Home. It's a matter of choice.
Observing requirement of the paragraph below, we can set listener from anywhere there is no restriction, it is a matter of best practices only.
The release of the listener must be the same as or later than the latest release of all Oracle databases being serviced through the listener.Cheers,

  • Migrating Standalone Grid Infrastructure Servers to a Cluster 11.2.0.1 Linux 5.9

Hey guys! Hope you all are doing good
I am kinda confused migrating my 11.2.0.1 Oracle Restart installation to a RAC two node (aim is to add a second node along with migrating the existing one to the cluster pool).
    Running on OEL 5.9 x86_64
I see that we can switch the RAC mode from 'off' to 'on' and use the existing clusterware binaries. I am trying to follow the below Oracle documentation for linux
6.2 Migrating Standalone Grid Infrastructure Servers to a Cluster
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e41961/rem_orcl.htm#CWLIN347
In this document, I have completed step 5 which is de-configuring Oracle Restart. All smooth.
The problem starts here. Next step 6 says
Prepare the server for Oracle Clusterware configuration, as described in this document. In addition, choose if you want to install Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster in the same location as Oracle Restart, or in a different location:
You would have noticed that there's a note which says that the process uses config wizard which is available with rel 11.2.0.2 or later. Mine's 11.2.0.1.
    From the doc
    Note:
This procedure uses Oracle Clusterware Configuration Wizard, available with release 11.2.0.2 and later.
So how do I proceed from here? Can the existing binaries be used? If yes, how? Can't find much information. Thanks for your valuable time.
I hope I am not missing anything..
    Warm Regards
    Abhishek

    Hello,
Then why to they say for example here the following:
The Oracle GSD (Global Service Daemon) process, ora.gsd, is typically offline. You must enable Oracle GSD manually if you plan to use an Oracle 9i Real Application Clusters database on the Oracle Clusterware 11g release 2 (11.2) cluster.

  • 11.2 Standalone Grid Infrastructure installation to Clustered Grid Insall

    Quick question:
Currently we have a 11.2.0.1 standalone grid infrastructure installation with ASM instance running on server a1. And there are few databases running under the +ASM instance on a1.  We are planning to make a1, a2 as a 2-node real application cluster.   Is there a way to convert the standalone grid infrastructure installation on server a1 to a clustered grid infrastructure installation along with a2 with out de-installing the existing standalone grid infrastructure on a1 and re-installing freshly?
    Thanks

    Hi Boochi,
Thanks for responding. May be I am not clear enough in my post. Database conversion will be the next step, my question is about the actual grid infrastructure installation...Currently a1 server has been configured to work as standalone grid infrastructure, but our requirement is to convert to a 2-node RAC with server a2. Generally, I would go by de-installing the existing standalone grid infrastructure running on a1 and re-install the clustered-grid infrastructure with nodes a1 and a2. I am wondering if there is a way without de-installing the existing standalone grid infrastructure??

  • Oracle 11.2 standalone grid infrastructure - change hostname

    Hi
I have changed hostname of my server running RHEL 5.3 with Oracle 11.2 Grid Infrastructure (standalone). After I changed the hostname of the server, the crs daemon stopped working and I cannot connect to my +ASM instance any longer.
In Oracle 10g2it was enough to run localconfig delete, localconfig add
    What should I do in 11.2 ?
    Thanks for help
    Groxy

    Hi Groxy,
I recently found myself asking the same question and after a fair amount of digging around I found a way to do it. Your question is now a few months old, so maybe you have found the solution already, but if not the key is using roothas.pl rather than localconfig. I have written a brief blog post covering the approach I used, so please check that out if you want more information.

  • Need Document/Steps for Cloning RAC 11g.

    Hi,
I am looking for a document to clone an existing RAC 11g database.
I believe in the cloning process this will create a new RAC database...
Also the source database data has to be applied to the cloned rac db.
    Environment 11g, AIX.
    Advice needed.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Indigo,
    The steps are necessary,
    1) Create the password file
    2) Create the spfile for the DESTINATION database (auxiliary database)
    3) Create the necessary mount points or the folders for the database files
    4) Execuute this command from the primary database.
    DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO <standby_name>
    FOR STANDBY
    FROM ACTIVE DATABASE
    SPFILE
    PARAMETER_VALUE_CONVERT '<string>', '<string>'
    SET DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT '<string>', '<string>'
    SET LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT '<string>', '<string>'
    SET SGA_MAX_SIZE 1000M

  • 11g R2 RAC - Grid Infrastructure installation - "root.sh" fails on node#2

    Hi there,
I am trying to create a two node 11g R2 RAC on OEL 5.5 (32-bit) using VMWare virtual machines. I have correctly configured both nodes. Cluster Verification utility returns on following error \[which I believe can be ignored]:
    Checking daemon liveness...
    Liveness check failed for "ntpd"
    Check failed on nodes:
    rac2,rac1
PRVF-5415 : Check to see if NTP daemon is running failed
Clock synchronization check using Network Time Protocol(NTP) failed
Pre-check for cluster services setup was unsuccessful on all the nodes.
While Grid Infrastructure installation (for a Cluster option), things go very smooth until I run "root.sh" on node# 2. orainstRoot.sh ran OK on both. "root.sh" run OK on node# 1 and ends with:
Checking swap space: must be greater than 500 MB.   Actual 1967 MB    Passed
The inventory pointer is located at /etc/oraInst.loc
The inventory is located at /u01/app/oraInventory
    *'UpdateNodeList' was successful.*
    *[root@rac1 ~]#*
"root.sh" fails on rac2 (2nd node) with following error:
    CRS-2672: Attempting to start 'ora.evmd' on 'rac2'
    CRS-2676: Start of 'ora.evmd' on 'rac2' succeeded
Timed out waiting for the CRS stack to start.
    *[root@rac2 ~]#*
I know this info may not be enough to figure out what the problem may be. Please let me know what should I look for to find the issue and fix it. Its been like almost two weeks now :-(

  • How do you create data base documents in Pages '09?

Can you create Data Base documents with Pages, or any of the iWork Apps?

If you want to create and use true databases, you must use an other app dedicated to this feature.
There is a powerful database tool in LibreOffice but it requires a serious learn curve.
There are numerous available apps starting from Bentoy to FileMaker or 4th Dimension.
    Matter of needs and finances.

  • Oracle rac 11g installation

    Hi
Am planning to install oracle RAC 11g on linux server. Have doubt on installation of clusterware or grid infrastructure first .?
I think grid infrastructure covers clusterware and ASM both and then oracle 11g software to be installed.
But how to download grid insfrastructure software. Will it come with oracle 11g software..? or need to download it seperately.?
Because when i try to download oracle RAC 11g which gives link to download the 11g software not grid.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
Its called "oracle one node rac"  you will find plenty of documents on metalink, extract is below, hope this helps you to understand the differences.
Oracle RAC Database : Oracle RAC database is a clustered database. It can have more than one instance running on one or more hosts. To make is database RAC , there is another software needs to be installed called Oracle Grid infrastructure which takes care of multinode sync, ASM, Oracle restart etc. Oracle GI is necessary as a base of Oracle RAC. In Oracle RAC, the load is balanced across multiple instance of databases running on different nodes. This is best for Production database. Failure of any instance is abstracted from user and forwarded to another instance from the database server pool. No of instances can be controlled using Policy Managed or Admin Managed.
Oracle RAC One Node : Some time we need to have RAC databases but donot need many instances, why? Simple answers to it is leverage the high availability of RAC. The Oracle RAC One node is a RAC DB runs on one host. The advantage is it saves your resource, can to converted to full RAC any time, Cluster fail over i.e. the Database instance is moved to new instance in case of any failure on host known as Instance Relocation, easy to upgrade etc. This type of database is well suited for small production and dev/test environments.

  • Translation date from document date instead of posting date

I have a requirement to set automatically Translation date from Document Date instead of Posting Date as usual in SAP.
My company code hasnu2019t got neither 2nd local currency nor 3rd local currency.
As usual, when posting transactions in foreign currency, translation date is derived from posting date.
I would like to know if is possible to set that translation date would be derived from document date. As I said before, because of the company code only has one currency defined, is not possible to change it in OB22.
    Thanks a lot

Has anyone ever tried to change the Translation date on the FI documents generated by F.05 (FBB1). I am having this requirement at one of the clients I am working on. I need to substitute the document date in the translation date field. I tried using substitution through GGB1 (OBBH) and also I tried using the BADI - FI_TRANS_DATE_DER, but none of the two options work.
Is there any other option to do it or did anyone had any success in doing this????
    Appreciate all the responses.
    thanks in advance.

  • Oracle RAC / Logical Data Guard causing network problems on VMware

We have VMWare 5.0 cluster across the 12 blades (6 per chassis) running a mixture of Red Hat and Windows 2008 R2 vms. The Red Hat boxes are two times two node Oracle RAC (primary and secondary), also apache web servers and jboss application servers. The Windows servers are for AV/DC/Management/Monitoring.
The problem is that intermittent network connectivity to random Windows and Red Hat boxes occur when the Oracle RAC builds up archive logs and then ships / applies them to the secondary nodes, between ESX nodes either on different blades in the same chassis or across the chassis and even when all RAC nodes are on the same ESX host.
We are using NFS, Oracle 11g and Red Hat 6.2.
Sorry if this info is a bit vague, im not an Oracle expert! :-)
    thanks,
    Dave

    Hi,
1.) The calculation for Standby RedoLogs is:
(Max Number of Logfiles per thread (Instance) +1) * Max Number of Threads (Instances))
So if you have 4 Redo Log Groups on your primary (which is 2 Redo Log Groups per Instance), then it ends up:
    (2 +1) * 2 = 6
So actually you will only need 6 standby redo logs, not 8. But 2 more don't harm.
Your primary will need exactly the same number (6 or in your case 8). Which will be 3 per thread/instance or in your case 4.
2.) The SID List in the listener.ora is a listing of SIDs the Listener is listening on. It is not the listener name.
Hence it is not "lsnrctl guard_dgmgrl start" but only "lsnrctl LISTENER start", whereas the LISTENER is the default and "lsnrctl start" would be sufficient.
However since this is grid infrastructure with the listener running out of ASM home, be sure to have set your environment to GI Home not to DB_HOME for the listener.ora entries, but to DB_HOME for the tnsnames.ora entries necessary for data guard.
And since listener is running under clusterware you should use "srvctl stop listener" and start.
Last but not least the SID entries for dataguard have to use DGMGRL not dgmgrl.
3.) Here is the whitepaper you are looking for:
    www.oracle.com/goto/maa
Also for client failover best practices.
(Here the direct link to the RAC whitepaper):
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/maa-wp-10g-racprimarysingleinstance-131970.pdf
However since this is 10g you should combine this with the 11g RAC standy paper (e.g. SCAN Listener setup).
