Required file could not be found

When I try to sync songs onto my ipod it gives me the (1418)-error or it says that the ipod could not be updated, because the rquired file could not be found.
PLEASE help

When I try to sync songs onto my ipod it gives me the (1418)-error or it says that the ipod could not be updated, because the rquired file could not be found.
Are you sure the error isn't error 1417 when updating your iPod? (since I've only heard of 1417 when updating; 1418 is a restoring error message).
If you're getting 1417, try out eboncairn's technique here -> A possible solution to error 1417 when updating
If you really are getting error 1418, could you post back and quote exactly what the message is telling you? Thanks for that info.

Peace.  My name is Free.  Thanks in advance for any help u can offer.  My iPod cannot be synced because the required file could not be found.  How do I fix this problem?

    Hi antiklady,
I see that you may be having an issue with compatibility of iTunes when connecting your iOS device. This sort of issue can arise if you have two versions of iTunes installed on your computer, which I feel may be the case. Here is an article that can tell you how to identify the version of iTunes that you have open:
iTunes: How to find which version you are using - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201521
If the version of iTunes that is opened is not the version you are required to use for the iOS device in question, try searching through your computer or applications folder to see if there may be two versions of iTunes installed on your computer. Then, uninstall the version that is incompatible using these steps:
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support

PLEASE can someone help me out on a problem that is infuriating me?? i've not long had my 30GB 5th generation video ipod, and i can't get any photos or video to transfer onto it! when i connect my ipod and itunes opens up, an error message appears saying "the ipod 'name' cannot be updated. the required file could not be found". however, it updates my music no problem..
i've reset my ipod, restored it and wiped all my music off and then transferred it all back on, downloaded the new ipod updater 28-06-2006 and made sure my ipod has the most recent software etc on there, but still no joy!
i never had a problem transferring photos onto my old colour photo ipod (4th generation?), so it's really annoying that i have a supposed 'better' ipod now that won't do this for me!
any help guys? please note, i am no techie - please put any advice in simple terms!

It sounds like this error message is preventing you from syncing your content to the iPod. I would recommend the troubleshooting steps in the following article:

I tried to sync them back onto my ipod and an error message comes up and says "the required file could not be found." i have checked in my pictures on my computer and the folder that I have all of the pictures I want in it and it is there. how can i fix this?
    Miek Rotch

If you have moved the file that had the pix in it to a different spot, you will have to choose the file again under the iPod photo syncing option on iTunes. Otherwise, I don't know what to do...
    Hope that helped you..

  • Required file could not be found on IPad during sync

When I sync my IPad I get a message that states "IPad could not be synced the required file could not be found". How to I correct this?

File could not be found means that iTunes has lost track of where at least one file is or the file is corrupt. Watch the sync progress to find out which file is giving problem. Then uncheck the file in iTunes, see if the rest will transfer. Now you need to figure out where the file is or what is wrong with it.

  • HT1364 when I click on consolidate files I get a message that says "Copying files failed. The required file could not be found" what does this mean?

I've been encountering problems with this from the beginning, when I realized that my iTunes media folder was engulfing most of my storage. I bought an external drive, followed all the steps, and since then I've lost 1 movie and several songs, and now I've lost some magical file that means I can't move anything now. The files are still on my computer (I moved them back after losing the movie and songs) and I can't move the media files. It does create the folders for me all the way down to the artist and album BUT when I open that last folder it shows me NOTHING! please help this is incredibly frustrating.

    1. delete this songs from your liblary
    2. go File -> Add File to Liblary... (Ctrl+O) or File -> Add Folder to Liblary

  • HT1386 I cannot synced my iphone from my pc (window xp) with the latest version of itune. It shows " The iphone cannot be synced. The required file could not be found.

Please help me.  I try to uninstall and reinstall itune many times but it still show the same this sentense.

First make sue you are installing the 64 bit version of iTunes.
Second make sure it is iTunes 10.7 or later.
I would download a fresh copy of the 64 bit version of iTunes 11. After installation reboot your computer.
Before connecting your phone reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • IPhone can not be synced. The required file can not be found

I got the message that "iPhone can not be synced. The required file could not be found." I suspected it had to do with photos because it was always in the middle of that when the error message came up. Re started everything. Unchecked photo sync and it synced except I would like to have the photos sync. Any ideas on why it won't sync when I check the option to sync photos to phone?

Hi folks. Am REALLY struggling here and hoping for some help. I too am constantly getting the 'iPhone can not be synced' message since upgrading to a new MacBook and trying to sync my iPhone 3GS. Have tried updating to latest iPhone software and hasn't helped. Have tried all the stuff mentioned above (dumping that file etc) and no luck. When I go to my sync page for photos, even if i un-tick the sync photos option altogether, this error keeps appearing. Very odd and very frustrating. Can't sync - seems to stall at last step of the process every time.
I'm guessing it is photo related as the pics on my iPhone are now all lowres and blurry, and it is asking for sync to iTunes to get high res images onto the phone.
Also have problem going the 'other way'! WHen I go to iPhoto on Mac and try to download new photos taken on iPhone.. I keep getting the message 'The following file could not be imported. The file is an unrecognized format."

  • AE CS6 won't export MP4. "Some of the required components could not be found."

After Effects CS6 (from Production Premium) running on 64-bit Windows 7 Enterprise SP1.
    Processor: Intel Core i7-3930K CPU @ 3.20GHz
AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series video card
    64 Gb Corsair Ram (DDR3)
    Quicktime 7.7.4 Installed
Currently attempting to export a short (2 second) video based on the predefined "H.264" preset with the only alterations being that I want the VBR 1 Pass to target 3.5Mbs (though I've changed this with no difference in outcome) and I want the video to multiplex as MP4. I immediatley get the error prompt: "Some of the required components could not be found."
*Just tried using the 3GPP multiplexer and received the same error message. If I try to use the MPEG4 format I get an "unknown exception" error.*
I've exported literally hundreds of items as H.264 with a MP4 multiplexer on this machine with current hardware and software. And now...no dice. After Effects boots correctly (or at least it seems that way) though I think it takes a little longer than it used to (not sure if the system cache just needs to be rebuilt).
After Effects CS6 has all available Adobe updates. Quicktime 7.7.4 is also up-to-date. Video Card driver is up-to-date.
What could be going on? I'd prefer to skip re-installing this program. I've had to do this numerous times already with this suite throughout the past 12 months; really getting sick of the down-time during reinstall. Worth noting that I have closed the program, closed all programs, restarted computer multiple times.
I am currently going through my Adobe program files for After Effects. I am specifically looking through the 'Support Files' directory. A couple interesting things: 1. My 'MediaIO->Codecs' directory was last updated on 11/8/2013 (perhaps an AE update??) but each of the files within said directory have a last modified date of late September. Did something get wrongfully deleted in the hypothetical update? 2. In 'Media Core plugins->Common' I again have a last modified date of 11/8/2013, but again each of my files within the common directory were last modified late September. I have many expected .prm files but NO ImporterMPEG4.prm; should I have a MPEG4 specific importer file, or does the MPEG importer file do all of the work. Also, I have no ExporterMP4 (or anything of the MPEG, MPEG2, MPEG4 flavor). Should I have one of these?
Don't know if this last paragraph helps at all but my fingers are crossed.

Thanks Katrina for all your help.
I talked to an Apple tech support person. Actually, my call had to be elevated to the next support level. Joy. You are correct, there are multiple listings of the files in the error report even though there is only one copy.
The support person had me do a few things. Here is what eventually seems to fix things:
    1) For the mp3's that DID copy but were listed as not found... Some files were duplicated so deleting the duplicate with the "!" was an easy fix. I found one file that I could search by song name in iTunes but could not find it by song name search on the iPod. Looking at the iPod playlist I found the file listed by the filename (not song name) and the file played fine. Then in iTunes I double clicked on the song name ("!" showing) and selected locate. I then pointed to the location on the NAS. Resync and now the name of the song on the iPod changed from filename to song name. The file was no longer listed in the error report.
    2) For the m4a files that didn't sync... the problem songs appeared three times in a search in iTunes. Two of the listings showed the "!" next to the name. I deleted these two for each song that didn't sync and all transferred fine afterward.
Perhaps there is an issue with ID3 tags since I use filenames more than tags in organization. Still, I would think that iTunes would not get so confused or be a little more friendly with its errors, especially considering how long its been around.
Thanks again for your help. Looks like I have a manual way to correct this issue.

  • When Syncing, got error msg "iphone4 can not be synced as the required file can not be found", When Syncing, got error msg "iphone4 can not be synced as the required file can not be found"

i've upgraded to IOS5 and also my iMac to latest iTunes.
i now found Itunes frequently issued a error during syncing "iphone4 can not be synced as the required file can not be found".   i have connected the iphone4 to my iMac using USB (i.e., wired).   but without doing any thing further, i go to iTunes and just hit the button to "SYNC" the iphone4 again, it will work.
so, why am i getting that error usually first time around when i connect the iphone?

  • 'The song "xyz" could not be used because the original file could not be found.

I am quite new to iTunes so please excuse me if the questions seem daft
I have recently changed my default iTunes Media folder location from my local C:\ drive to my home network storage device
(my PC is permanently mapped to this NAS storgae drive)
Now When I go to play a song in itunes I get the message 'The song "xyz" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it"
Looking in the new iTunes Media folder, I can see the following folders and they are mostly empty:
    Automatically Add to iTunes
    Downloads
    Mobile Applications
    Music
Note that I have music that I bought from iTunes and music from other sources \ given to me by friends
    Questions:
    (1) How do I get all my music back into this new iTunes Media folder?
    (2) Exactly which files contain my music? (I ask because we have 2 or 3 libraries that I wish to consolidate into 1 master Library for us all)
If I know exactly which files are required I can delete any other files cluttering up my storage and PC

Changing the media folder path tells iTunes where to put new media that is ripper or purchased. It may offer to consolidate to the new location when you make the edit, if not iTunes will expect existing content to remain on the original path.
The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to Get Info, then click No when asked to try to locate the track. (Due to a bug in iTunes 12 you currently have to say No twice!) Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, a folder renamed, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. If the difference between the two paths is an additional Music folder in one path then this is a layout issue. I can explain further if that is the case.
In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps with Get Info but this time click Locate and browse to the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.
For more background on the typical layout of the iTunes library see Make a split library portable.
    1) It depends on exactly what you have done to break things.
    2) Your media files are where you put them, or where iTunes copies them to when they are added to the library. If multiple libraries use the same set of media folders there can be problems if edits in one library cause content to be moved as the other libraries will no longer see those tracks on the original path, and won't know to look in a new one.

  • Photoshop Elements 6:   Could not use type tool because the file could not be found

Using Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 well for a while.
Tried to use the Type Tool to overlay text and obtained this error:
Could not use the type tool because the file could not be found
After research, I reset all tools, tried to repair (failed: insert disc one), and then removed/re-installed.  Still have the same problem.
Are the system fonts corrupt or is an Adobe .ini file suspect?
Other reports have suggested using a 3rd-party font manager to inspect/disable fonts.
First wanted to post this error here for feedback/recommendations
Any suggestion on how to recover the Type Tool functionality?

    Adobe Photoshop Elements Repair Workaround
When trying to repair the well-known:  insert disc one, error occurred.  Was able to successfully repair the installation by dragging the entire Adobe Photoshop Elements directory from the original CD-ROM onto a hard drive and executing locally.  Seems it does not like repairing over the CD-ROM but it works correctly if the install source is on disc...

    John,
Yesterday, I decided to completely remove all Adobe products:  PSE 6, Premiere 4, Reader, ActiveX plugins & legacy/old uninstalled product directories that Adobe has left turd-lets around including old Acrobat 3/6 directories.  Used A/D Software to remove all adobe products and then followed your instructions AND the instructions on Adobe's support web site to manually remove these products.
It boiled down to manually removing the entire Adobe directory in Progam Files, "saving" the entire Adobe directory structure in each users (3) Document and Settings in the Application Data and Local Settings (as instructed by you and Adobe) and rebooting.
I also saved the local All Users "configuration" database/cache that contained the Tag and other information to make sure the system was clean
This included following the manual Regit instructions to remove legacy Adobe registry hives.  I deleted all keys for all Adobe product trees that I could locate (following instructions from Adobe).
    Reboot
Scheduled a CHCKDSK on all drives and rebooted
Dragged my complete image library to an archive location and deleted them on the C: drive
    Did a complete system Defrag
Re-installed Adobe and alas still have the same problem with the Type Tool....
The only thing I did not do was selectively remove the "fonts" because various instructions seemed to indicate many are "required" by the windows or other applications and I was not really sure how to identify which ones were safe to remove w/o affecting the core system..  I'll have to re-read these instructions next.
Microsoft has a "Font Validator" tool, but that only checks 1 font at a time and you have to read the "results".  May look for other tools.
Will be able to check the font structure this weekend since it will take some research before I'm comfortable just removing fonts in trial/error mode.  I'll need to make a backup image of my computer before I start this (just in case).
    Thanks for follow-ups too!
    Eric Edberg
