Required info on JSP tree tag.

Hi All,
I am new to this forum, belated new year wishes to you all.
Well I have a requirement to display data in a drill down tree format where data comes from backend (dynamic not static).
I searched the web and found some of the tags like from : http://www.jenkov.dk/prizetags/index.html#tree, this tag works fine on normal browser, but we need to run application in mobile device, where code of JDK1.1 will work. so this tag is not user ful for our application.
We got another tag lib from: http://www.servletsuite.com/servlets/treetag.htm, the tag works ine if the data is static but when we try to add childs dyanmically it gives some runtime errors.
We got another tag lib from Apache Beehive project but those tags are to run on JDK1.5.
Can some body help us with JSP tag lib which runs on JDK1.1 and tree nodes added dynamically.
your help will be well appriciated, thanks in advance,
Regards,
Sai krishna. K

Hi Sai,
well, the answer is unfortunally a NO in the first place.
MI is based on standard JSP and AWT functionality - up to Version 7.0 - and both runtime environments do not support that stuff on PDA.
If you run the APP on Lapop only, you could build something like that with Java Script in HTML or extend the functionality there with some Add ons externally available that can be filled by normal XML. But this is outside the usual MI scope, it depends on your creative level. WebDynpro on the other side supports you with a tree view as I remember, so this could be an option - but again, only on Laptop.
The question is: why do you not split the tree view to several pages? I have no idea about the amount of data you need to carry with you, just in the first place already. Usually tree view could mean a lot of data and this could end up in a long waiting time just to display the first page. Perhaps it is an option to show the actual level of the tree and if the user selects on item, then this item is added to the path (how has he got there) and the next level is displayed in the screen. Pretty much like the Windows Workplace, where every klick on a folder opens a new window with just the info of that window. Performance wise tis could perhaps be the better option.
Does this help?

Oliver

  • How to use JSP custom tag lib in PAR file?

    Hi All,
    I am trying to customize mastheaderpar file. For that I have downloaded relevant par file and making the changes accordingly.
    As part of the changes I would require to use JSP custom tag library in my par file.
    I have the TLD file and relevant classes in the jar file. I would like to know where and what kind of modifications have to be done to use the jsp custom tag library.
    I tried modifying some things in portalapp.xml but was not successful.
    Please help me on how to proceed with this? It would be great if you can provide the xml entry to use this tag library
    Thanks
    Santhosh

    Hi Johny,
    Thanks for the reply. Actually I am able to change colors etc. with out any problem.
    My requirement is to use XMLTaglib in mastheader par file. This tag lib is from apache tomcat. I have the relevant TLD and class files. I copied TLD file into taglib dir of portal-inf and class file in src api.
    And I have added the following line in portalapp.xml under component-profile section of default
    <property name="tlxtag" value="/SERVICE/Newmastheader/taglib/taglibs-xtags.tld">
    Is this the right way to use tag lib? Actually before adding this line I used to get the error saying "Error parsing taglib", but now the error does not occur and I am getting new error. This is an exception in one of the taglib classes.
    Could any one provide me some inputs on how to check this error?
    Thanks
    Santhosh

  • Jsp tree menu dilema

    i am using a really great working tree menu tag library.
    http://www.servletsuite.com/servlets/treetag.htm
    however, i now need to be able to generate children dynamically while looping through a resultset. Anyone using the tag library above with data from a database ? The problem comes when you need to create children based on some test.
    I think my only solution is to do something that involves a TreeModel
    help ?

    Hi,
    I know this is a while ago, but here's the solution anyways:
    It was I who developed the Jenkov JSP Tree Tag, and the error reported here is not an error in the JSP Tree Tag. We have received error reports on this specific error a few times now. If you put the error text into the Google search field and press search, you will find that this error occurs in many different situations.
    The problems is caused by some JSP parsers that cannot accept JSP Tags that span more than one line ( or something like that). For instance a tag like this:
    <tree:tree
    tree="...
    node="..."
    >
    or
    <tree:nodeId
    node="..."
    />
    To solve this problem simply make sure that the JSP tag is all on the same line, like this:
    <tree:nodeId node="..." />
    That should solve the problem.
    Kind Regards,
    Jakob Jenkov

  • Info attribute in jsp page tag

    Is anybody else experiencing a problem with the info attribute in the page
              tag? None of my pages with the info attribute will compile. Every one
              generates a 'Duplicate method declaration/definition' error because the
              Weblogic JSP compiler is generating two 'getServletInfo' methods if the
              attribute is included. If I take the info attribute out they compile fine.

  • Is the jsp:plugin tag supported in Weblogic 5.1?

    I am running Weblogic 5.1 and I can't get the <jsp:pluging> tag to work.
              The server is not even translating the tag to anything usefull. When I do a
              'View Source' in the browser, the tag is exactly as I wrote it in the page.
              Is this feature supported in 5.1. I've tried the phonebook example and it
              doesn't work either. All my other JSP pages work just fine.
              Any help would be appreciated...

    Thanks for your response! Yes it was a typo in the message :). Would you have any idea why it is not working for me? Any special configuration required? A property I don't have correctly set in the properties file? I've tried the phonebook example shipped with the product and it doesn't work.

              I never tested it myself. But i think we do support
              in 5.1 . Shouldn't it be <jsp:plugin>
              Was it a typo?

  • Quick Info on ALV Tree node

    Hi All,
    I have this requirement.
    On ALV Tree node, when user places cursor then i should display some text as quick info.
    while create node i have used ICON &lt;- left arrow, i cannot use other ICOn as functional person need this icon only.
    During Add_Node, if I pass icon through node layout then its showing nothing, Instead if I pass icon through item layout, then its showing SAP standard ICON text left arrow , but i need custom text write text  there.
    I tried using Context_menu_req as well, even that didnt worked. Any ideas/views will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks n Regards

    Hi Mr A.
    You can try the following:
    DATA: l_node_text TYPE lvc_value.
    DATA: ls_item_layo TYPE lvc_s_layi,
                 lt_item_layo TYPE lvc_t_layi.
            l_node_text             = 'UR Text'
            ls_item_layo-style      = gs_detail-color_code.
            ls_item_layo-t_image    = gs_detail-icon.
            APPEND ls_item_layo TO lt_item_layo.
    After the above mentioned statement, you may call 'Add Node' method of ALV Tree.

    I had the same problem. In your .tld change tagclass to tag-class and bodycontent to body-content and that should do the trick. The names slightly changed for JSP spec 1.2.

  • Jsp/custom tag compiler error (HttpServletResponse)

    I originally posted with on Oracle's site but I am not getting any help.
    Our server is running Oracle 9ias with JServ and Apache.
    I have created a simple jsp that calls a custom tag but I am getting the following error:
    Method addHeader(java.lang.String, java.lang.String) not found in interface javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse.
    response.addHeader("Pragma", "No-cache");
    ^
    Is something not setup correctly or installed where it should be?
    the code for the custom tag is from the O'reilly book "JavaServer Pages." This works with JDeveloper on my computer but not on our server.
    package info.wyoroad.jsp.tags.generic;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import javax.servlet.jsp.*;
    import javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.*;

    response.addHeader("Cache-Control", "no-cache");

  • Jsp:include tag does not preserve encoding of the text

    hi
    I am using Apache web server and Tomcat 4.1.
    I have a jsp:include tag (in say test1.jsp) and I am trying to include a data1.html file. This html file contains UTF-8 encoded text. When this JSP is executed, the UTF-8 text is displayed as garbage characters.
    I have included following in the JSP
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" %>
    I have included following in the info.html
    <meta HTTP-EQUIV="content-type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
    However if I rename the info.html to data1.jsp and then include, the UTF-8 text gets displayed correctly.
    I suppose, the JSP engine does not interprete the content of the html file correctly according to its encoding.
    Where as if it is a .jsp, then it is int erpreting it appropriately?
    Can anybody throw some lite on this?
    regards
    haresh
    sample files.......

    <br>

    Your generated HTML will be flawed.
    The output of the included JSP is included in the outputstream of the enclosing one.
    Browsers will normally skip any illegal tags when encountered. This included your complete html headers from the included jsp and may (depending on the browser) include all code after the html close tag from that jsp.
    Stricter browsers may simply refuse to display anything at all.
    Read up on what the include mechanism exactly does and on wellformed HTML.

  • Data Streaming in JSP custom tag

    We have a JSP custom tag which uses a StringBuffer object to store the HTML content. In the doEndTag method, we use the JSPWriter's print method to send the buffer's content to the browser.
    Now, there are cases when the HTML content becomes very large,in the order of 1 - 10MB. In such cases, is there a way we can start streaming the data from the custom tag as the buffer is being built, rather than waiting for the entire buffer to be written out in the doEndTag.

    Yeah, just call the JSPWriter's print method instead of using the StringBuffer, or write your own subclass of StringBuffer (or StringBuilder if Java 5+) which will do this for you automatically when the size is at a certain point, and clear it out)
