.  I have Adobe Actobat 7.0 Standard for quite a while, and I'm happy with it. I use it for mainly filings at the federal court.  They require PDF.  I use two computers in two different states for work.  I realize my Adobe 7.1 is a few years old, but sometimes I have difficulty using it with the other days downloading a boarding pass, and e filing at the USDC. .  There's a problem with Adobe Flash, media, etc.  and other Adobe programs, (which I use for downloading boarding passes for airlines, etc.) so basically I have to delete these other Adobe programs, besides the Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard if I want to 7.0 Standard to work.  I periodically download the updates, but there's still a problem. My question is:  Can or should I purchase another program to update the present Adobe Acrobat 7.0 standard, or just buy a new program such as the Adobe 11?  Am I mistakenly doing something wrong, such as when I download?  I'm an old valued customer so I don't want to spend a lot of money since I am replacing my Dell XP for a new computer now, and my other computer is a Dell Vista.
    I'd appreciate your valued advice.

If you are getting a new computer (for a PC it would have Win 7 or 8), then you will need to purchase XI if you wish to continue using Acrobat. Acrobat 7 is not compatible with these systems (and probably the same for MAC systems), though sometimes workarounds are possible, though not easy to use. I guess the answer is to buy the new version. Try http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/software._sl_id-contentfilter_sl_catalog_sl_software _sl_mostpopular.html, click on the Buy for Acrobat, and then select the version you want.

  • Require PDF File attachment in Mail

    Hi Experts,
I am doing the Proxy-XI-Mail scenario. I am sending the Mail related data like Content, Content_Type from R/3 to XI and configured the Mail receiver adapter.
    R/3 coding:-
    G_ALERT_INPUT-MT_R3REQUEST_MAIL_SEND-MAIL-CONTENT_TYPE = 'application/pdf;name="filename.pdf"'
    G_ALERT_INPUT-MT_R3REQUEST_MAIL_SEND-MAIL-CONTENT = G_CONTENT
    G_ALERT_INPUT-MT_R3REQUEST_MAIL_SEND-MAIL-FROM = From_Mail.
    G_ALERT_INPUT-MT_R3REQUEST_MAIL_SEND-MAIL-TO = To_Mail.
and then calling the client proxy
    ID Mail Receiver configu:-
      Selected Use Mail Package option
      Content encoding  base64
Keep attachment option is also selected.
I am geeting the Filename.pdf in mail as attachment.
Problem is:- I am not able to open the attached PDF File and error is:- 'Adobe Reader could not open filename, pdf because it is either not a supported file type ot because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded'
I think some conversions may be required to convert the XML Payload data into PDF file format for the Mail receiver adapter.
    Please suggest
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi Jagesh,
The content  type of the Pdf has to be identified, in order to conver the pdf successfully, You need to perform the conversion usign the PayloadSwapBean the  Module tab. You use this when you want to receive attachment using Mail adapter. You need to configure few steps in Module Configuration
There you need to mention your MIME header paramenters Content-Type, Content-Description.
How this can be configured and how process with PayloadSwapBean check the below link

With my credit card statements   I cannot print

    Hi Bill,
    I'd like to help!
Are you using your PDF Pack subscription to convert your bank statements to PDF? Or are they already in PDF format and you are not able to open them using Reader?
Looking forward to hearing back from you!

  • Need to convert 'My thoughts' app work into either .jpeg or .pdf

    Hi,
I need to convert a piece of work, designed through 'My Thoughts' app into either a .jpeg or .pdf format in order to send to Staples to have it printed off - have clicked on save but these two options are not included ... any ideas?
    Thanks in Advance

I don't have "My Thoughts" but you should be able to command-P and then at the bottom of the print screen you'll see PDF and you can just save as PDF from there.
All of my printers (including Staples) require PDF documents these days.

  • How do I print a multipage doc to PDF from LabVIEW?

I have an app which prints reports for my client.
The reports are mostly graphs, with some attached labeling info.
These might be one or a hundred pages, all results of a modeling run.
I have several dummy VIs, which are laid out the way the page should look (different from the screen), and it can print to the printer, a PNG file, a BMP file, or a JPG file.
Right now, each page is a separate PRINT VI operation. In other words, the same VI may be called multiple times, with different data, and told to print.
This has worked well for several years. But now, the client would like to print directly to PDF, with each PDF file containing one to a hundred pages.
I've tried things like "Win2PDF", but that makes a separate file for each page. That's understandable, since I'm calling the PRINT VI multiple times, but it's not what I want.
I have never used the REPORT GENERATION VIs in LabVIEW, but my first look at them was not promising. One example complained that I cannot move or rename the "Documents and Settings" folder (I didn't really want to, but it apparently tried). Another generated an OK HTML file and printed it, but HTML introduces all kinds of uncertainties about page boundaries and such.
Anyone have suggestions about a better answer?

Blog for (mostly LabVIEW) programmers: Tips And Tricks

    Hi Coastalmainebird,
I've done somehting like this myself, also without the report toolkit. I've found controlling Word/Excel myself gives more control, and is easier to understand (If you are familiar with macro programming in Office).
You can place the objects into a WORD file, setting their position to fixed and so on (I'd have to check for the exact details, but you probably know this part already). I DO remember that "inlineshapes" and "shapes" are handled seperately by word. Make sure to only use one of the two types (Inlineshapes move with text I think, whereas Shapes float). A simple way would be to take a snapshot of the front panel required and pop the picture into the word file (preferably one screen per page).
Once all pics are in the file, print using the required PDF generator. I've used JawsPDF in the past and it worked almost good. It had the odd problem of missing a print from time to time, but otherwise gave good results.
I have always placed some kind of notifier in the word file to let WORD know to print a PDF. Then, using a macro which is tied into the event structure of WORD (A tricky thing to get running by the way), I check at run-time when printing if it's a designated "PDF" print. I can then route to the correct "printer" to get the job done properly. The event structure of WORD is quite useful as you can (As in LV) capture most user actions and act accordingly.
If you have some time, I might be able to dig up an example. Could take a few days though since I'm in a new company since I've done this particular piece.
    Hope this helps.
    Shane.

  • A font not used in an MS Word doc is showing up in the PDF properties and won't embed

A friend needed a new manuscript uploaded to a publishing site. I retyped it in MS Word (2007) using NO formatting shortcuts and using only ONE font (Georgia)  for both body and headers/footers. Placed all the jpg illustrations on the pages. Then saved it in the required PDF format for the publisher's system to use. They also require that ALL fonts/symbols are embedded. Even ONE character that is not embedded will void the file. I'm now on attempt 17.
When I checked the properties on this PDF file, the font I used, including italics, symbols and bolding, are noted as embedded. However, it also says that there is ARIEL font (which I did not use) that is NOT embedded. AARRGGHH.
This gal wants her book ready in two weeks. HOW can I resolve this? Any ideas? I saved it once through MS Word using the PDF option, but also tried it through my Photoshop Elements. Same result. My PC uses Windows 8 (NOT 8.1) and the Adobe Reader XI.0.7. The Java files are the most current update as of yesterday.

It seems to me to be a problem of MS Word, not Adobe Reader.
Also, I don't know how you can convert a Word doc to PDF with Photoshop Elements.

  • Save As PDF /A Poor Quality

    Hi
I am trying to save a PDF file as a PDF /A 1b
When I choose PDF /A 1b and click Save, the file is created but the resolution is incredibly poor. Text is fuzzy and when I zoom into images they are pixelated.
If I hit the Settings button in the Save As dialog and change the Image resolution to 300 PPI, the resulting PDF is fine but it is not a PDF /A and a dialog box appears suggesting that Preflight should be used with the PDF /A profile to fix any problems
I tried using the preflight feature and choose the PDF /A profile but again, the quality was incredibly poor. I edited the profile but could not see where exactly to raise the resolution so I tried changing the Images section from Inactive to Info and changed the values to 300 PPI. I saved the profile, but the Preflight utility reported an error 'unable to save/create file' when I tried to run and fix the process.
Can anyone help me produce a PDF /A that is of a decent resolution so that images can be zoomed into without losing clarity and where the text is not fuzzy/hazy please?
    Many thanks.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.
    Here's what we do:
We create PDF versions of MS-Word, MS-Excel, CAD, MS-Access, MapInfo documents. We use CutePDF Pro to merge those PDF's into a single document. Later, we may use Adobe Acrobat to create a smaller file via the virtual Adobe PDF printer which is suitable for transmitting via email. When we create a smaller sized file we do not see a drop in quality. The view options are set so that 'what you see is what you get'.
The original document looks fine and we can zoom in and see small detail in the images and the text stays sharp - same with the smaller file size versions.
We create a PDF /A for archiving because we have to deposit these files with professional archiving services. The people who run this service require PDF /A PDF's which are searchable - this means that text has to be retained. One of things I noticed when watching the output during the PDF /A creation process was that many pages were being converted into images which is of no use to us as the ability to search will not be available.
Regarding the transparency question I have no idea. I will research this and find out how to run the transparency flattener. Hopefully, that will resolve this.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • Use of .pdf file in report

    Hello,
is it in any way possible to use an existing pdf file or page in report or include it in the pdf generation?
    Tijs

    Brad,
This indeed seems to be the only way to fulfill my need as the PDF files I need to add are pre existing and I'd like the complete report be generated by Diadem 'with one push of a button'.
After some minimal research I think I can get everything working as I would like using Ghostscript to convert any required PDF file to seperate PNG files and then load its pages.
    I currently use:
    Call ExtProgram ("C:\Program Files\gs\gs9.14\bin\gswin64c", "-dSAFER -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -r200 -sDEVICE=png16m -dGraphicsAlphaBits=4 -sPAPERSIZE=letter -sOutputFile=D:\Drop\Temp\PNG-%d.png D:\Drop\Temp\PDF.pdf")
I have tried to get a variables within this command for the input and output files and locations but couldn't get it to work so as is I'll have to shuffle files around to be able to use this rigid approach. If there is any way to get a variable within this code it's use would be a lot easier.
As the external program is called the script continues without knowing when the required info (files) is available. To prevent using a fixed pause time I tried to use a small pause and compare filesize before and after pause to determine if a file is fully available, Unfortunately this doesn't realy work as well as I hoped. Also I guess that used h/w and other processes running at the same time would effect what pause time to  use. I might have to find another way to see if a file is generated completely but I'll quote anyways:
    Do
    k= FileSize (Wrkdir & "PNG-"&i&".png")
    Call Pause (0.3)
    Loop Until (k=FileSize (Wrkdir & "PNG-"&i&".png"))
Although the script now does what it needs to do there is some shuffeling of files required because of the rigidity in the call to the external program and to keep it reliable longer than required pause times are needed.
The realisation of a function that will insert existing Pdf files(pages) is becoming within grasps If I can get around these 2 minor issues.

  • Frame artifacts appearing in PDF output

I have a problem with faint artifacts of object frames, rectangle frames and diagonals, etc. appearing in a PDF output when viewed in Acrobat Reader. They are hairline thin and are not visible in the InDesign document on screen.
Here are the circumstances of it occurring:
    I'm using CS5.
The PDF is output for a publication that requires PDF X-1a:2003 standard.
The artwork, and any placed images are in CMYK. Transparency blend space is set to Document CMYK.
The background layer for the ad. is rich black 50:0:0:100 and the artifacts are showing up over a white logo.
Placed near the logo is a transparent background PSD image file with a drop shadow on the subject. (This object frame is one of the artifact sources) If this image is removed, the problem disappears.
Tif files don't seem to cause the same problem, but I'm having difficulty placing tifs and retaining transparency; the background always turns white, which doesn't happen with PSDs.
Be grateful of advice as to preventing this happening; Thanks.

We can confirm with a screen shot, but it sounds like a flattening artifact known as stitching. This shows on screen in the PDF, and often in a low-resolution print, but usually is not a problem on press.
You have to specifically opt to save transparency in the Tiff options dialog. You'll find once you do, though, that the stitching returns -- it's the transparency and flattening that causes this.
You can embed a screen shot using the camera icon on the web page like this:

  • Problem exporting to PDF from ID CS6. Objects are missing in PDF.

    Hello!
I created a large format poster (24x36 inches) in ID CS6 to be printed. My printer requires PDF files to print from. My problem is that when I export my ID file to PDF, objects are missing. For example, in this file, the company logo in the upper left corner of the poster is incomplete (missing the orange color fill with white text in orange circle.) This object was originally created in AI CS6 then imported to the ID document.
I am pulling my hair out trying to fix this and have not been able to find like issues online. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!!!!

The missing object is visible with Overprint Preview turned on.

  • PDF in ID

    hi,
i am still new with print. i also do not have the ID program in front of me here but am trying to get some much-needed info from an expert for work on monday.
i have a facing-pages multi-page program book [about 30 pages in total] that we're going to take to kinkos on monday for printing. the book is basically a high school program.
kinkos told me they can do bleed printing. there are a couple of pages where there's a photo thats beyond the bleed line in the ID file. that's necessary because the photo is a body shot of a person and if i move the image from the bleed, the left side of the body will look like it's sliced.
so that's why it's important that kinkos can do bleed printing of this program. here is my question....
i am going to create a print-quality PDF of the file and send it to kinkos. but do i need to do something in the PDF settings in order for kinkos to be able to do the bleed printing? my PDF settings right now are smallest file size, high-quality print, prepress quality, and several PDF-X settings.
is there anything anyone can tell me about the PDF settings that would help me in this sitauation?
please DO NOT ASK me if i can give them the ID file. why? because when i was talking to the kinkos gal and asked her have you ever heard of adobe indesign, she replied, "oh, yeah, sure!" so then i said well if i give you the indesign file, will this help you print the program? and her answer?
"what kind of design are you talking about?"
so then i said, "well, i think it will be easier if i give you the PDF, do you agree?" and she happily replied yes absolutely!
    thanks for any advice.

If you have setup bleeds in the document; then in the Export to Adobe PDF, make sure you turn on in the Marks and Bleeds section the switch for Use Document Bleed Settings. Give it 1/8 inch or 1 pica bleed amount.
FedEx Kinkos says this: "FedEx Kinko's Print Online supports the upload and processing of PDF v. 1.6 documents (and below). Content requiring PDF v. 1.7 is not currently supported."
So, I would choose either Press Quality or High-Quality Print, and make sure to set the Acrobat compatibility setting to Acrobat 7, and again be sure to turn on Use Document Bleed Settings.

  • Printing to PDF Crashes InDesign, Word, Publisher and more

    Hello,
It was recommended by someone in the InDesign forums that I post my issue here, as my problem seems to be spanning through all programs that are capable of printing to PDF.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I have 8gb of DDR2 ram in my machine at work. We are running Creative Suite 4.
I am a prepress designer, so much of my day is spent taking customers files, and converting them into printable PDF files for our machines. My problem is that throughout the day, printing to a PDF will completely freeze my computer. In InDesign, when printing to a PDF file, I will get the progress bar that says, "downloading font, flattening image, etc." Usually, when the progress bar gets to "Downloading Procset," a window comes up that allows me to choose a name and location to print my PDF to. Occasinally, InDesign will completely freeze up at this point, with no option to save. The only thing I can do at this point it end the program through the task manager. When this happens, it also affects Word, Publisher, etc. I can get all the way to the print dialog box, but as soon as I click on Properties, the entire thing freezes up. Sometimes this issue starts from InDesign as described, and sometimes it originates in Word, Publisher, etc.
Even after closing and reopening the programs, I cannot print to a PDF. My only solution is to completely restart my computer. I have been doing this 4-8 times a day for 2-3 months now.
I did some digging, and found that once the PDF printing fails, it puts a document in my PDF printer queue called "Local Downlevel Document." It shows the status of this file as Spooling, and I am not able to delete or cancel the job. It's properties show as 0 byes, 0 pages, datatype raw, and processor Winprint.
I've gotten suggestions to Export to PDF or print to postscript and distill. While these fixes work after the PDF printing fail, it still does not return functionality to any of my other programs that require PDF printing.
Another issue that arises when this happens, is that I cannot print any PDF file to any physical printer. When I open a PDF file, and click print, it instantly freezes. This, as well, is fixed by restarting.
There is no pattern to when this happens. It seems to be completely at random.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance!

That means that the only way someone is going to be able to help is if they have experience with your software and how Acrobat intereacts
I can't help, but hopefully someone will come along and read your message who is able to help
I do not see that you posted your exact version and update level for Acrobat
Since Win7 64bit is still fairly new, you MAY have a problem of not having the latest Acrobat update... and you may also have something like an out of date video driver

  • PDF/X-4 export Futura Light "ö" missing-

    Hi folks,
as to make for our new printing partner a colorserver work, we have to export our documents now in PDF/X-4 out of InD, usually we go with PDF/X-1a.
Our company font is the beloved Futura, and we use Light regulary.
After export the small "ö" is missing, this wont happen with the Futura Book or Bold, only with Light.
We contacted our font supplier and reinstalled our Futura, no success. Only the small "ö" is gone.
I checked the glyphs and noticed that the ö is the last character. Maybe the InD 5.5-Export is somehow buggy?
    Can anyone help out?

On behalf of and as chairman of ISO TC130 WG2/TF2 (the ISO committee responsible for the PDF/X specifications), a few comments about PDF/X-1a versus PDF/X-4 (as well as PDF/X-4p and the various PDF/X-5 variants):
    (1)     There is nothing wrong about using the PDF/X-1a standard if there is absolutely no transparency in your original content – including transparency effects such as drop shadows, feathering, mirroring, etc. and even clipped images using masks, not clipping paths – and that you know exactly what print conditions you are going to. PDF/X-1a was designed prior to the common usage of transparency and color management in Adobe and other graphic arts applications. Furthermore, at the time most PDF was printed by internal conversion to PostScript – PostScript was what as actually RIPed. PostScript has no native support for either ICC color management or live transparency!!
    (2)     There is no question by those who really understand the underlying technology that the correct place to do transparency blending is at the RIP at the same time the content (whether text, vector, raster, or a combination of same) rendering, color management and other functions including trapping are being performed. We know the exact final color space as well as the resolution and geometry of the raster that the RIP process produces. There are no intermediate formats that can and will introduce imaging artifacts.
    (2)     Contrast this to the situation in which content with live transparency is exported to PDF/X-1a. In the process of exporting PDF/X-1a, all transparency and transparency effects must be flattened into opaque objects. To do a credible job at this, you must know the resolution of the target device as well as its CMYK color space. If you mis-specify either of these, you are likely to get various flattening artifacts including pixelation of text, image stitching problems, as well as color rendition issues. And even if you do properly specify both resolution and output color space for the PDF export, you may still see some artifacts. If  you have ever downloaded a PDF copy of a magazine that is either PDF/X-1a or simply is all CMYK with transparency flattened, you often see the artifacts as white lines on the screen!
    (3)     This brings up another liability of PDF/X-1a! You effectively are married to a particular output condition and cannot readily repurpose your output including placement into another InDesign document without the possibility of serious problems. If you keep imagery in its native ICC profile-tagged RGB color spaces, keep live transparency, and export PDF/X-4 and decide to print to a device with different color characteristics, most advanced RIPs provide options for use of device link profiles to safely convert CMYK to C'M'Y'K' and the actual device output profile to conver the RGB to the C'M'Y'K' color space, possibly taking advantage of greater color game of the other device (or for that matter to a C'M'Y'K'OG device)!
    (4)     Every RIP as well as software upgrades for existing RIPs over the last half dozen years has fully and properly supported PDF/X-4 including every RIP that is based on the Adobe PDF Print Engine or even those of Adobe erstwhile competitor, Global Graphics (Harlequin). If you are using a print service provider that hasn't updated their RIP software in six years, you are really taking big risks!
    (5)     We understand from our own enquiries that many print service providers that publish specs requiring PDF/X-1a, will indeed take PDF/X-4. Typically, we find that print service providers who won't take PDF/X-4 at all are either ignorant as to what the newer PDF/X standards are, feel that it is safer for them to make the creative professional customer do all the color management and transparency flattening and blame all problems on the customer – “the customer is always wrong,” are fearful of anything “new” or “innovative” (quite a few Luddites in the print industry), or a combination of these factors! Of course, we know of print service providers who place PDF files in QuarkXPress 3.32b documents for imposition and others who actually try to use Photoshop as a RIP yielding CMYK separations as individual TIFF files. I can truly say that the print industry is often its own worst enemy!
    (6)     I believe that someone in this thread mentioned something about European printing. Be aware that the latest Ghent Workgroup PDF standards are now based on PDF/X-4 (albeit only CMYK + spot, but with live transparency). Most UK and European print associations based their standards on the Ghent Workgroup standards (even if fighting and kicking all the way).
    (7)     As indicated by others responding to this thread, you should never try to force something like PDF/X-4 on a reluctant print service provider. If they really don't want it, even if their software does support it, they will show you somehow that they were right. (That having been said, I have worked closely with some local printers for some personal projects and have showed them how to user PDF/X-4 to their advantage - I now have really good friends who will turn fairly complex print jobs overnight for me because they now realize how reliable the PDF/X-4 files I provide to them actually are.)
