Required to buy Tiger or later?!
Am I the only one that thinks this is totally wrong and crooked? An Apple device not being compatible with my Apple OS?! I mean, it's not like I'm running OS 7 or anything. Panther is not an OLD operating system. One upgrade up on the iPod and suddenly nothing works?!
And shouldn't they make this clear when you buy it? I'm finding later that it says it on the box, but really, who thinks to ask, "Will this work with my computer?" when the last one works fine, especially when you have an Apple computer that's fairly new?! Like I don't ask about OS compatibility when I buy a flash drive or something. An iPod is essentially a hard drive. Fits in the USB port. I figured that's all I needed to know. I'm sure others like me who have stayed on Panther 'cause they have no software reasons to upgrade are just as ****** as I am.
I think it's just so wrong and this is coming from a long-term Apple supporter. They're pretty much saying to us, "Oh well. Too bad for you." I think they should at least give us a discount on Tiger or Leopard when it comes out.
*I'm finding later that it says it on the box,*
Doesn't it have like a total of two dozen words on the box? And the only ones you managed to read are "iPod Classic"?
but really, who thinks to ask, "Will this work with my computer?"
Most people who want stuff that they can use.
I think they should at least give us a discount on Tiger or Leopard when it comes out.
Because?

My mac OS X is version 10.5.8 and I have bought iLife '11 and if I try to open/install it says "iLife '11 is not compatible with your version of mac OS X" and
"it requires 10.6.3 or Later"
What should I do?Buy a Snow Leopard 10.6 retail disk and upgrade? $29.
Or call iTunes, tell them what happened, and ask if it would be at all possible for them to issue you a refund & reverse the sale. -
My mac has OSX version 10.8.2 and I'm try to install an aiport express base station which requires 10.5.7 or later. Yet when I try to install the software it says the base station is not compatible with my mac version - how do I resolve?
You already have the software installed that you need if you have 10.8.2.
If AirPort Utility cannot find the Express, that is another matter. More software is not needed. More troublehooting is needed.
Power up the Express for a full minute
Hold in the reset button on the Express for 7-8 seconds and release
Allow a full minute for the Express to restart
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen
Look for a heading of New AirPort Base Station
Just below that, click on AirPort Express

Can you still buy Tiger?
I want to upgrade to Tiger on a PowerBook G4 so it will be running the same system as other computers in the house. Can I still buy Tiger? All I can find in the Apple Store online is Leopard, and I don't want Leopard.
You need to buy it from a 3rd party, and it's expensive ($150-200), unfortunately.
Here's one example:
http://hardcoremac.stores.yahoo.net/macosx10tire.html
There are cheaper ones, I'm sure. You could try eBay/Craigslist. But, be careful! Be sure you are buying authentic retail discs - they will be black with the X. They will NOT be gray - those discs only work with the specific model and build they shipped with.
Hope this helps... -
Error message when connecting to iTunes says my new iPad 4 can't be connected as it requires version 10.7 or later. Surely a new iPad already has the latest version, and if it doesn't how do I get it?
Not the iPad - your computer must be running iTunes 10.7 in order to sync. It has nothing to do with iTunes on the iPad.
You can download iTunes for your computer here.

Syncing new iphone 5 with a Mac with itunes 10.6.3. Error message says iphone cannot be used because requires itunes 10.7 or later. Unable to download Itunes 10.7 to Mac. What do I have to do to import songs from Mac to new Iphone 5 ?
iOS 6 (which runs on the iPhone 5) requires iTunes 10.7, which requires OS X 10.6.8 or higher.

I don't like itunes 10 and so I'm using itunes 9. However, now my phone can't connect to itunes because it says it requires itunes 10.5 or later. Is there a workaround for this?
No.
If you don't want to update to the supported software you can't use the device. -
I had just updated my Mac to 10.6.1. When it finished, I had tried to open up Itunes but it says it requires 10.6.8 or later. When i had tried to update my mac it asked for my adiminstartor password. I dont know my password. Any way to reset it without using a disc?
Sure there is.
1. restart your computer in Single User Mode (by pressing Command + S during boot - see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1492)
This will boot your OS X system in a kind of command line mode.
Note: this will not work if you have a Firmware password set.
2. when in Single User Mode, enter the following command
mount -uw /
to mount your OS X file system.
3. now you can enter the following command
passwd username
replacing "username" by your OS X user's short name. Then you will be prompted to enter the new password for that user. You will have to confirm that new password.
Note that you will not see any character showing when you enter the new password; this is expected behaviour. -
I am currently using Firefox version 18.0 yet when I open Firefox, I always get this pop up message:
“This version of Firefox is not supported by Norton Confidential. You will not be protected while browsing the Web.
Norton Confidential cannot protect you while you use this version of Firefox. Phishing Protection requires Firefox 1.5 or later.”
Do you know what is causing this? This started when I updated to Firefox 16.0.2. Am I at risk? You may find information on Norton's own forums about this.
I am not sure that any protection against phishing provided by Norton is going to be better than the protection that Firefox offers by default.
* see http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/phishing-protection/
I can not recommend that you downgrade to an earlier unsupported and insecure version of Firefox, because that WILL increase the security risks.

Just got my iPhone 5. I get a message saying it can't be used as it requires iTunes 10.7 or later, when I connect to iTunes. But the current version is 10.63. Please help!
iPhone 5 requires iTunes 10.7 or greater to sync with your computer. You need to update iTunes on your computer. If running OS X, this requires OS X 10.6.8 or greater...Snow Leopard.

Is a ssn required for buying a macbook?
Is a ssn required for buying a mac?
Depends on the form of payment.
A credit card needs an SSN, I guess.
Financing through Apple (which is a credit card) takes an SSN I guess.
Cash money just needs to be not-counterfeit. -
When trying to launch/play chess from the yahoo games website, I get the following message: "Yahoo! Chess requires Flash Player 7 or later and JavaScript enabled in your browser''. I have verified that I do have Flash Player 10 installed and that JavaScript is enabled. I'm able to launch/play chess from Yahoo Games when I use IE as my browser.
You either do not have Flash installed for Firefox or it is disabled.
In Add-ons > Plugins, look for "Shockwave Flash ''(version)''".
*If it is there and you see an "Enable" button, click the "Enable" button; that means it was disabled.
*If it is not there, you do not have it installed; see the following.
There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash; an '''ActiveX version''' for IE only and a '''Plugin version''' for most other browsers including Firefox. On a Windows system, you should always update both individually.
#'''Using Firefox''', go to the following direct download link and SAVE the download to your desktop so you can find it later: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe
#When the download is finished, close Firefox (File > Exit '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Exit)
#Click or double-click on the file you just saved to your desktop
#*In the installation window that appears, click the box to the left of "I have read and...." to place a check mark in the box
#*The "Install" button in the lower right corner will now be highlighted, click it.
#*The installation is quick.
#Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
