Requirement failure - Oracle 10G 10.1.0.3 on RH (Red Hat) ES 4

Hi all!
I'm trying to install Oracle DB 10G 10.1.0.3 for Linux on a RedHat ES release 4 server.
The initial requirement test state that OS version must be redhat -2.1, redhat-3 to install, and prompts "Failed". After checking the Certify in metalink I see that RH4 is supported with 10Gr1 (10.1.0.3 minimum). I think this might be caused by missing rpm's...
Since the documentation does not state package dependencies for RH4 I'm kind'a lost when it comes to installing this. Anybody done this successfully? Does anybody have a link to som doc?
With gratitude!
"Heyers"

Is there a reason you're not using 10gR2? (10.2.0.1+)? It's much better :)
You can add redhat-4 to oraparam.ini in the install directory and it should skip that for you :)

  • Oracle 10g/11g database use on UEK versus Red Hat kernel? How widely used?

    Greetings
    is there any official or semi-official information regarding how widely used is Oracle UEK to run Oracle 10g/11g database (RAC or single-node) versus running Oracle database on Red Hat Linux or on Oracle Linux with Red Hat kernel ?
    I am asking because at my customer site there is a perception that Red Hat (or Oracle Linux with Red Hat kernel) is much more widely used in production to run Oracle 10g/11g database and therefore it will provide better stability even if the performance may be somewhat reduced compared to Oracle UEK option.
    So I need some sort of approximate percentage numbers of how well is UEK used in Linux Oracle community to run Oracle 10g/11g databases.
    Many thanks.

    The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence. Well, in my opinion, a higher market share does not reflect the quality or reliability of a product. Take MS Windows for example. Unfortunately, the reason for success is often not due to knowledge and experience, but rather due to fear and sheep effect or herd behavior.
    Perhaps you can use other arguments or questions to help you to make a decision, eg.:
    Oracle has a better understanding of what Oracle products require than Red Hat.
    Oracle takes full responsibility for the OS and Database, no finger pointing.
    Oracle tries to provide a better product than the RHEL kernel.
    The Oracle UEK kernel contains Oracle driver software, not available for RHEL 6 or later.
    Oracle updates are free of charge, RHEL requires a subscription.
    Oracle as a company is about 20 times bigger than Red Hat.
    There can be reasons that require the use of the original RHEL kernel, for instance if the vendor of a specific driver for your hardware demands it. But otherwise...

  • Is license required for Oracle 10g client on production

    Is license required for Oracle 10g client on production?

    Standard disclaimer: We don't represent Oracle. Your situation may be different because of specific wording in your particular Oracle contract, because of differences in licensing regimes over the years, because of laws in your particular country, etc. If you have a serious licensing question, you really need to address it to Oracle Sales. Explaining that some guy on the internet told you it was OK is going to be cold comfort if you're ever audited by Oracle and they disagree with my interpretation...
    In general, no, you don't need a separate client license. The database is generally licensed to support a number of named users and/or all the users that a certain hardware configuration can support. Assuming the person using the Oracle client is connecting to a properly licensed database (and that they are one of the named users if that is the licensing regime), you shouldn't need a separate license.
    There may be slightly different rules if we're talking about developers connecting to the database because of the "Oracle Programmer" set of licenses that appears on pricing sheets that I've never fully understood.

  • License required for Oracle 10g Release 2 ODAC 10.2.0.2.21

    There is one oracle developer tool(ODP.net driver) available for download on Oracle website named as "Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio .NET with Oracle 10g Release 2 ODAC 10.2.0.2.21" link
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/windows/downloads/index-101290.html
    We required this tool for development purpose like "application connectivity with Oracle DB". Please let us know is this freeware or any license required for using this tool, If required what is the cost of that license.
    Please help me in this. I tried to contact with Oracle support team. but the unable to answer my query.

    A few things:
    1) The latest version is 11.2.0.1.2. This will work with database versions back to 9.2. You do not have to select a ODT or ODP.NET version that matches your database version.
    2) All of the .NET products are free and can be used by you in your application.
    3) You automatically get technical support for the .NET products if you have support for Oracle Database.
    Thanks,

    Someone help me!!!
    Thanks.

    The requirements for installing 10.2.0 and 9.0.4 on RHEL4 differ - 9.0.4 is based on older versioned RSFs and require linking against older compatibility libraries.
    The OUI may incorrectly complain if later versions of the required/pre-requisite packages really are installed - this should not be a problem functionally, however.
    The latter errors you report, however (make, relocation error, glibc/symbol), are symptomatic of trying to link with/against incompatible gcc/glibc versions. Try installing the following additional compatibility files (appropriate for your architecture);
    - http://oss.oracle.com/projects/compat-oracle/dist/files/RedHat/compat-oracle-rhel4-1.0-5.i386.rpm
    - http://oss.oracle.com/projects/compat-oracle/dist/files/RedHat/compat-libcwait-2.1-1.i386.rpm
    If you have not already done so, I suggest you create and use (i.e. source) separate environment definition files when working with each product/version environment. For 9.0.4, ensure that you specify environment variable LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19 before installing 9.0.4 (or relinking).
    If you have MetaLink access, refer also to Note.315832.1, Note.389811.1.

  • Installation of Oracle EBusiness Suite 11i Release 10.2 on Red Hat Linux

    Hello there,
    It would be great if someone can help me with these questions
    1. Which version of Red Hat Linux is suitable for installation of Oracle EBusiness Suite 11i Release 10.2.
    2. I am downloading the EBS files from eDelivery site on my machine (Windows based). These are Zip files. How would these be usable on Linux machine?
    3. Do I need stuff like MKS Toolkit on Linux? We tried installing on Windows 2003 server but had to abandon because we don't have MKS Toolkit. Is there some such pre-requisite on Linux?
    Thank you.
    Rahul

    Copy all zip files to say /data/stage11i then unzip all files (as root) the process will create the correct file structure, you do not need to run adautostge.pl then in a terminal screen go to /data/stage11i/Disk1/rapidwiz and then type ./rapidwiz the installation wizard then guides you through the rest of the way. Run raoidwiz as root if you need multi user or for the demo single user run rapidwiz as oracle. Make sure you have created user and group for oracle and applmgr, also make those changes in the wizard it often defaults to say user oravis group dba. In linux you should have created localhost.localdomain sometimes the eth0 does not start, stop it in the device manager and then reactivate. Hope that helps.

    hi
    friends,

    "Error in invoking target install of make file"

    pls. help me what to do?
    Dharmesh

    See this :
    I saw this error only in connection with Oracle 9i (9.0.1) installation.
    Edit the file $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh and change the following line (people have sent me emails pointing out that this also works for Mandrake 8.1 and Mandrake 8.2):
    LD_SELF_CONTAINED="-z defs"
    to read:
    LD_SELF_CONTAINED=""
    Then run the script $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh as the user "oracle" and not as the user "root". Also make sure you have all the Oracle environments set! (I got so many emails because people were not doing this)
    $ su - oracle
    $ $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh
    Created /opt/oracle/product/9.0.1/lib/libclntst9.a
    $
    After that hit retry in the error popup. This always worked for me.
    (I was told that this also works for SuSE 8.0.)

    Can you check Metalink Note 376022.1? Your STREAMS_POOL_SIZE parameter may be too small.
    If you don't have Metalink access, try this :
    sql> alter system set STREAMS_POOL_SIZE=100M scope=spfile;
    sql> shutdown immediate
    sql> startup
    Note : the Portal Applications forum may not be the appropriate forum for this datapump issue. Try one of the database forums as you'll have a wider audience there.

    We're using Oracle 10gR2 RAC with two nodes on Linux Red Hat.
    Let's assume that the public network interface goes down.
    I would like to know what happens with existing connections
    on node with network interface with problems.
    Are connections frozen, actives?
    Can the users continue to use theses existing connections using the another node of RAC?If the interface is down? what do you think? All connections to this node will die. How does your application handle fail-over, does it attempt to reconnect or just have a complete application failure?
    You should spend some time in a test lab where you can test this stuff for yourself. Read the documentation and there are tons of sites out there that purport to have all of your RAC/TAF/FAN/FAF questions. - I would read and trust the documentation first.

  • Oracle 10g Install Question

    Hi All,
    I have to install oracle 10g onto a server where there is existing oracle 9i software.
    Is it safe to go ahead with the install, while the 9i databases are up?? what are the consequences of doing this?
    OS patches and kernel parameters as required for oracle 10g have already been changed.
    10g is being installed into a different oracle home and i would choose not to overwrite any of the files as asked by root.sh script.
    OS is hp-ux 11i (11.11).
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
    Sorry for not being clear in my question earlier.
    I am planning to install Oracle 10g on a server with existing 9i software. My question is whether we should shutdown all 9i databases for the duration of the install or we can leave them running as long as we do not overwrite any 9i files including files in /usr/local/bin directory that contains oranev etc...
    To be on the safer side it is always recomended to shutdown any oracle instances running before we start the install. Wanted to know the consequences if we have them up and running for the duration of the install.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Installing Oracle 10g R2.0.1 on OEL 5

    Dear all.
    I've got one more question. Basically it's a doubt about the installation process which I tryed a lot of ways of installation and didn't have sucess. I prepared the OEL 5 to the Oracle DB 10g R2 Installation (created the necessary folders, groups, installed the i386 package to use the OUI).
    So, I accessed the screens that were guiding me with the installation. I chose the folders to oracle files and all the requirements were needed. But, during the installation I'm getting so many errors that I can't understand what's going on.
    The first error that appear for me is: "Error in invoking target 'ntcontab' of makefile '/home/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk'."
    After that, I get a lot of sucessive errors saying basically the same thing, like it was missing some files.
    Does anyone know what's happening?
    I could see that there is a part of the installation that check the system requirements for the software and some are Warning and the others are Sucess. Is that the problem?
    But the installation process finishes anyway saying in the end that some assistants failed or are not configured. When I try to execute $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbca or $ORACLE_HOME/bin/start emctl dbconsole or any of the assistants, they do not run.
    Please post here your knowledge about this I said. I really don't know what to do now.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Chris,
    I checked all the necessary packages to install Oracle Db 10gR2 on OEL 5 but I've got some questions about this.
    All documentations I have downloaded from oracle.com are for an installation in a Red Hat EL 4 and I couldn't find a specific one for Oracle Enterprise Linux 5, that's why is difficulting a little bit the installation. I checked, after my OEL 5 installation that some packages are missing. Have a look:
    binutils-2.17.50.0.6-6.el5

    As you can see, some packages are missing and I'd just like to know how I get them. In the OEL5 Installation Process I marked every package that the Installation Guide tells to select but, as I said before, the installation guide is for RHEL4. Do you know where I cand find one specific por OEL5? Or, if not, do you know how I can download and install those packages?
    Thanks a lot.
