Hi Deepak,
We are not partner/ customer with SAP, so don't have access to tools.

Hi,
Begin in http://service.sap.com/quicksizing for hardware requirements in SAPS(processing), memory and disk space. Then check in installation guides http://service.sap.com/instguides the best configuration
of the disks in RAID. Basically:
RAID 1 - database server program files
RAID 5 - data files SAP

• Is Solution Manager required for ECC 6.0 upgrade?

We will upgrade our system from 4.7 to ECC 6.0. Is Solution Manager a required tool in ECC 6.0? My understanding is Solution Manager has to be run on a different server, ie. we will have to buy a new server. We have a small SAP implementation with only FI & CO modules, so we are trying to cut our costs if we could. Can anybody share their experience? Thanks for any input.

In an Upgrade , Solution Manager is required for Upgrade Keys and downloading the support packs . Now a days to download the support packs you have to approve it in Solution Manager otherwise it won't show up in your download basket.
May be SAP can provide you the keys & approve the SPs ( they used to do that before ) , in that case it isn't required.
You can also manage your upgrade project in Solman . Sooner or later you need to install solution manager. it's a nice system. Many good features like central monitoring, early watch alert etc etc ...
Thanks

• What level of certification is required for ECC 6 upgrades?

Hi everyone,
I'm already a ceritifed SAP technology consultant (up to NW2004), however need to update my certification for ECC 6 (netweaver 7).
What is the appropriate exam to sit (eg associate or professional) to be allowed to perform productive SAP ECC 6 upgrades?
Thanks
Shaun

Hi everyone,
Major update on the "do you need to be certified" topic ...
I finally got a reply from SAP Education regarding two queries I had regarding what level of certification was required as a basis "guy" to perform production SAP installations and upgrades.
SAP Education wrote:
You don't need to be certified to do installations. In reality, customers will have much more comfort having an install done by someone who is certified rather than someone who isnu2019t, but ultimately itu2019s the customeru2019s call.
I then asked if this was applicable for SAP upgrades also ...
SAP Education wrote:
Hi Shaun,
Indeed it is.
Best of luck!
I then went on to clarify that their is no support implications for customers who don't you certified Basis personel to perform their upgrades/installs:
Shaun wrote:
So your saying that although itu2019s preferable to be certified ... you donu2019t have to be, and there is no impact to the support provided by SAP?
SAP Education wrote:
Ultimately, SAP cannot mandate for individuals (excluding those employed by SAP) or SAP Partners to be certified to work on projects. However, customers and partners will employ the consultants to work on the projects, from what we have seen recently customers and partners are now asking for SAP certified consultants to work on implementation and upgrade projects.
Thus we suggest to have an advantage to be employed on future SAP projects that you are certified in the solution you will be working on, or upgrading to.
Example: If you are looking to work on an upgrade from CRM 5.0 to CRM 7.0 the customer would look for certified consultants in CRM 7.0
So it is solely up to you if you wish to certify yourself in the latest release of the solution you are working in.
I then rang SAP education and had a very pleasant discussion with one of the ladies there. She went on to explain that the requirement for certification really became an optional thing a few years back. SAP was no longer in a position not to support customers regardless of who they use to perform their upgrades/installs since a customer continues to pay their yearly maintenance costs - thus SAP is obligated to provide support.

• Hardware Requirment for ECC 6.0 R/3

Hi
I am New in sap i want to ask you I have 150 users and Active user(High) is 120 and medium user 20 and low user 10.So what Hardware is required for this like (Hard disk ,ram and processor) implimentation. The user will be every module 20%.
This is Not for IDES
points wait for u
Thanks
Kumar

Usually a sizing is done this way:
- you give a hardware vendor the data you just posted
- they use http://service.sap.com/quicksizer to get a number of SAPS
- the hardware vendor will offer you a machine able to handle that number of SAPS
Are you going for Windows? 64bit Itanium or X86_64?

• Downtime required for ECC 6.0 service pack application

Does anyone have any data on the amount of time required to apply service packs to ECC 6.0 when DB2 z/OS is the backend database?
We have done several tests in a sandbox system and the best case we have gotten so far using production LPAR weights is 6.5 hours to go from SP10 to SP11. Our z9 has 158 MSUs.
SAP has also done some benchmarking on a z900 lab machine with >400 MSUs and gotten similar runtimes.
Applying the same service pack to a sandbox on Windows x64 with SQLServer 2005 takes 2.5 hours.
We would like to understand the 2 to 3 times difference in runtimes and improve the DB2 z/OS case.
Brian

Omer,
Thanks for the suggestions. They are not at all out line as I would rather hear something I already know than not hear something I don't even know to check.
To answer:
1) Everything in our landscape uses ficon (DASD and tape)
2) We initially implemented with the SAP directories (sapmnt, usrsap, and trans) on NFS for z/OS. Since we installed ASCS/SCS on USS for z/OS for HA, the filesystems were in HFS and then shared out via NFS to the application servers. Performance was horrible once there got to be more than about 1000 files in a directory, which happens quite often with spool requests and job logs in production ECC. We opened a PMR with IBM z/OS NFS support, and at their suggestion changed from HFS to ZFS, made sure the LPAR which owned the ZFS filesystems was also the LPAR running NFS, etc. We never found a performance silver bullet and testing we did with a zLinux NFS server on the exact same CEC and DASD proved to be 3-4 times faster than NFS on z/OS, so we moved all the SAP files to NFS on zLinux.
3) I don't have exact figures, but the majority of time seems to be spent in the IMPORT_PROPER phase. During our next test cycle I will note the times of the various phases from the import log.

• How much spaceMinimum required for ECC 6.0 ProductionVersion solaris+oracle

hi,
you can measure it via : [service.sap.com/quicksizer]
SAP says : ( taken from service.sap.com/quicksizer):
"The Quick Sizer calculates CPU, disk, memory and I/O resource categories based on throughput numbers, and the number of users working with the different SAP Business Suite components in a hardware and database independent format. The purpose of the tool is to give customers and prospects an idea about the size of the system necessary to run the proposed workload. This is especially useful for initial budget planning"
so it will be various, depend on your hardware availability, and how complex your business process will be run.
hope it helps,

With this ECC 6.0 upgrade i am planing to implement PM,EP.
I know converting none Unicode system to unicode system is required some more hardware resources than the none Unicode.
Some document says 40-60% more disk space and 35% more processing speed from current system.
Can any one give me the correct information about the hardware requirement for ECC 5.0 to ECC 6.0 upgrade.

• Hardware Resources For ECC 6.0

Hello,
Can anyone assist me in determining the hardware requirement
for ECC 6.0 installation (Server config. CPU, RAM, DISK SPACE etc.)
Thanks & Regards,
Sumit

It all depends on the no.of user/ DB / OS. Quick sizer is good tool to opt for.
Run the pre-requisite check and select all ABAP and JAVA components in the list and it will give all the required information in the final summary report.
For better performance 8-16GB RAM for dual stack is good.
